Over the last few days, rumours of a large announcement have been circulating around Imperial Diyaristan. With the war having settled into an uneventful stalemate, public attention has been allowed to turn to more internal affairs. And the winds of change seem to be blowing.

President Hamara has been seen more and more publicly, holding several events of his own. While continuing to speak on the benefits of being an Imperial province, his messages have also started to take on a nationalist streak not seen in him since before General McGregor came to the country. Hamara has made increasingly frequent promises that he will safeguard Diyaristani autonomy within the Empire, and fight any attempt to

All this culminated today, when General Ulla and President Hamara delivered a public address before the Diyaristani federal court. The two spoke on the need to stand together, doubling down on Ulla's previously rhetoric of reconciliation between Diyaristanis and the rest of the Empire. To do this, they said, it was necessary to find middle ground with those in the DRG who, for a variety of reasons, were not convinced of the Empire's generosity. The moderates within the DRG were an important part of the conversation who needed to be included in these talks.

It was then that something happened which would be unthinkable mere weeks ago. The two leaders of the Imperial movement welcomed up none other than the self-styled President Alamardin, leader of the Diyaristani Rebel Government before his capture. Despite nobody having heard from him in months, Alamardin seemed in good spirits, and began echoing his counterparts' calls for negotiations between the moderates on all sides of this conflict.

It is time to end the fighting.

The first of hopefully many rounds of negotiation have kicked off today between the pro-Imperial Hamara government and representatives of the breakaway Diyaristani Rebel Government. For now, these talks will be remotely conducted via video and telephone calls. But there has already been interest expressed by both sides in soon organizing meetings in either Qashmar or the rebel capital of Karbek.

Upon the return of President Alamardin, many in the rebel leadership have been divided. Some cast doubt on Alamardin’s reliability to their cause; As more details about his capture come to light about his arrest by the Empire, the official story is shifting to the idea that he gave himself up willingly. But others defend their old president, arguing that the DRG has lacked proper leadership since his departure, even failing to select a new president to fill his shoes. So far, the latter group has been winning. Alamardin holds considerable sway in the rebel movement, and has been presenting himself as the only one capable of getting a favourable peace with the Imperials.

And peace is something the rebellion desperately needs. Over this entire affair hangs the shadow of the warlords consuming the rebel state from the inside out. Fighting between the DRG and Hamara regime has all but stopped as all factions work to suppress the mass humanitarian crisis caused by anarchy in southwest Diyaristan, with ex-rebels turned warlords currently in control of vast swathes of the countryside.

October, 15, 2035:
The day has finally come. Today in Qashmar a joint address was given by presidents Hamara and Alamardin announcing an official ceasefire. The Imperials have extended a promise of recognition to the DRG and promised them at least short term retention of their lands, and DRG representatives are set to travel to Qashmar to begin proper peace talks. Fighting has come to a swift end between the Diyaristani Imperil authorities and Diyaristani Rebel Government with both sides rapidly bringing their more hawkish warbands on the border under control.

The Rebel Government has meanwhile turned its attention fully southward to continue their collaborative effort with the MKAZ in stomping out warlords and splinter groups. The two working together is no longer a secret, as both side’s security forces are being documented exchanging prisoners and supplying one another. Mount Kula helicopters are becoming an even more common sight in Karbek as communication between both factions becomes normalized and whispers of formal embassies start to flow.

No matter one’s political inclination, it seems that now is a time for optimism and hope for a better future.
