Askeland Republic wrote:
OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF THE ASKELAND REPUBLIC

From the officially appointed leader of the people Jobjorn Orgumleidisson
As an official statement of acknowledgement of the sovereign rule over its own lands

This day of the 13 of the month of May in the year of 2019. We the nation of Askeland Republic decree our lands are now an independent governing state!

We wish from this date forth that the peoples of the international community recognize this and confirms their support of this statement or their disapproval.

We of Nordic birth share our ancestors pride of being an independent state free from oppression and boot heels of the Fascists and Communists ideals. We are simple men and women who will stand together through the tests that you the international community will give us and we hope to soon become an international power to be respected as our ancestors would have wanted.

Better to fight and fall than to live without hope - Norse saying and Motto of Askeland Republic

Head Minister Jobjorn Orgumleidisson

In Jafndægribjǫð (Equinox Fields) the capital of the Askeland Republic loyal Nordic clansmen and women celebrated and drank their fill at the taverns as tonight they were a free nation. They would enjoy themselves at the festival that had planed to take place in a large park in the center of Jafndægribjǫð near the seat of the government: at the ministers complex.

Though this was a happy time of the nations civilians the looming threat of an international intervention and annexation was possible. The Duty of protecting the National Security of the nation fell to the Askeland Defense Force (ASKFOR) and its 4 Army Corps to defend the newly minted nation with is modern arsenal of weapons and equipment.

1st and 2nd Army Corps were deployed en-mass to defend the country as best it could. However from its size and the relatively small amount of personnel to defend it the national reserves were called up to defend major cities and roadways, while the 1st and 2nd defended the border and islands and coastline. With 22 Infantry based divisions and 4 Armored based divisions in the regular forces and 13 National Reserve (Regular force personnel assigned to the home front. Usually Engineers, medics and so on) This didn't Include the Askeland Militia (Civilian Reserve, or Part time soldiers) however the almost 30 under-manned Battalions spread across the country were ordered to be ready to be Nationalized if the need were required. ASKFOR also had one fleet to work with to deal with any coastal incursions. Reserves for this branch would be a ship by ship basis. As for the Air-forces It only had Two Wings with the second being half strength and was a support wing for transport and resupply.

The Ministers' Complex, Jafndaegribjodh, the Askeland Republic

To the new government of the head minister Jobjorn Orgumleidisson,

Our government welcomes the Askeland Republic as a new sovereign and democratic state into the international community and the rights that follow this recognition. Rather, the rights and responsibilities of recognition: recall the long-standing relationship between the peoples of Mythaca and Askeland. We asks your new government to honour the responsibilities of your people and agree to:

  1. Sign a binding agreement not to impose tariffs on the export of Askeland natural resources or on the import of Mythic goods;
  2. Repay the $1 trillion worth of financial claims against the new Askeland government, either in full or over a reasonable period of time with interest; and
  3. Cede islands off the coast of Askeland to the Mythic Republic in perpetuity.
Ptolemia, our liaison to your new government in Jafndaegribjodh pending a permanent embassy, will await a reply in person. She is empowered to act in the interests of our peoples.

Sosthenes of Thalassos, consul to the Senate and people of the Republic

The sounds of the festival outside carried through the window to Ptolemia, but they brought her no joy. Three times she had asked the Senate to reconsider, that people so recently independent would never accept these terms, that these terms were pretty much diplomatic piracy, and that to call Askeland a 'new government' so many times was not only insulting but unoriginal. After her last attempt at revision the Senate had reminded Ptolemia that she served at the pleasure of the Mythic people and she could be recalled just as easy.

So here she was, waiting for a meeting that would be as uncomfortable as the wooden chair she was sitting on. Still, Ptolemia had some hope. If she could soften the blow this letter had on the ministers, she could walk away with a compromise that both governments might agree to. If, and could, and might, Ptolemia bitterly pointed out to herself. Her government had been itching for an opportunity to flex its military muscles, and armed conflict had pointedly not been taken off the table.

"The ministers will see you now," the receptionist's voice pierced through her thoughts. Ptolemia sighed under her breath as she stood up, thanked the receptionist, and opened the doors.

The Parliament of Kenmoria had been looking for a way to get some good publicity, and this seemed like the perfect occasion. Only a few weeks ago has the nation been embroiled in international controversy based on a blizzard incident involving some telecommunications lines, a recently corporate gang, an Orthodox Church, and at least one trigger-happy queen. Now was the time to recover some goodwill across the world, and show respect for other countries.

Askeland was admittedly a rather new nation, so didn’t have that much clout yet on the international stage as far as Kenmoria was concerned, but hopefully the nation could grow in size and remember some friends as it started out. For the moment, nothing concrete was planned to happen, to avoid giving all the aid in the state to a territory that could be annexed tomorrow. However, the Parliament specialised in giving polite messages and attaching great import to signed pieces of paper.

Dear Head Minister Jobjorn Orgumleidisson,

I must congratulate your nation of Askeland on its recent declaration of independence as a new Nordic state, embodying the ideal of freedom, and yourself on becomings its head minister. As you have mentioned in the recent statement, the international community has given no indication of support or opposition so far to this process. Therefore, I wish to be the first to welcome Askeland to the global stage, and hope that it may prosper.

Kenmoria as a country shares in opposition to communism and fascism, and his may prove to be a point that leads our nations together in ideological struggle. However, for the moment more immediate concerns may be apparent. The path to recognition is a long one, though immensely rewarding and dignifying, and this ministry will be glad to assist Askeland in its progress into history.

Sincere regards,
Jonathan Fletcherson, Kenmorian minister of Foreign Affairs

As Ptolemia entered the meeting room she saw the group of ministers waiting to take the meeting with her. She could see that the Head Minister: Jobjorn Orgumleidisson, was not present here. The room was a kin to an outdoor amphitheater, yet enclosed in the interior of the Ministers Complex. She could immediately see three people standing in the center of the room and other than the way she entered two other exits along the left and right wall. The seats to the amphitheater like set up started at either side of her and wrapped around the entire room, making alcoves of each of the entrances. Instead of the room made out of stone or circular to mimic a Roman amphitheater. It was made from old oak and timber, Nordic runes and depictions of the Askelandian god's; Thor, Odin and Freya. The room was rectangular and the seats reflected that going into the corners. On the seats were cushions so some of the older ministers could sit in the room for long periods of time as the country debated the important issue the country tackled. The room, to Ptolemia's understanding maybe 60+ people in the seats.

One of the three took note that Ptolemia had entered and greeted her so. It was her counterpart in the Askelandian government, or at least their governments would be Foreign Minister, As this was the first time he would be doing his job she would see if he could live up to the title. When he greeted her was when she noticed what they were wearing. The locals that she met prior wore simple linen clothing akin to the Viking and heathens of old. Where the people her wore military uniforms.

"Ah Ptole-emia, Welcome come in come in!" the man she knew as Sigmund Flokisson. He wore his uniform properly as any Orestea Soldier would have. Sharp and by the book however when you looked at his face it was more to what you would see a fictional Dwarf or real world viking would wear. His red beard and hair were braided with what looked like cheaply forged iron cylinders weaved in with more of the Norse runes carved into them. The sides of his head were shaved to his skin it almost looked as though no hair grew there and the rest of it was tied back in a knot on the back of his head with the two braids, that ran as the border between hair and clean shaven head, was used to tie the knot.

"Sorry for keeping you so late, we will make this quick so you may also have a chance to take part in the festival." He said gesturing past her out the doors behind her. "Here is Thormar Ornulfsson, Minister of the Interior, and Olaf Vebrandsson, Minister of Finance. They will be here to listen to what you have brought us from your government and your requirements during your stay."

Both Thormar and Olaf wore similar styled hair, with Thormar actually having his beard smooth enough to braid it in with the hair on his head, and Olaf with a Goatee. Both of them wore the same iron cylinders with runes braided into the hair and beards. They too wore their uniforms in predestine condition, no doubt from the Oresteian training the local military forces were doing with the soldiers.

Kenmoria

Jobjorn Orgumleidisson sat in his office their government had changed slightly since they declared their Independence a few days ago. I changed from a Ministers council to an Assembly of Clans. Which honestly their was no difference between the two. except now the officers of the army, navy and air force ran the government. Put Simply, this government is a militaristic form of democracy, where all free clan warriors can make their voices heard. In the 2019 CE, This means all Officers of a certain rank can become the leader of the Assembly voted by each house hold of each clan. Which honored the heritage of each Clan and with hope kept it in mind when the Assembly was in house talking about the government as a whole.

He sat in his small office reading memos and going over the last few things before he would leave. He had sent three of his ministers to speak with the foreign delegate while he would remain out of sight until the day was done. He had come across the Kenmorian Foreign Affairs letter on his desk. Upon reading it he smiled and drafted up a response.

Dear Jonathan Fletcherson

Me and my country thanks you for you support, Jonathan, you are the first of the hopeful many letters I had hoped to receive from foreign dignitaries. To that end I would like to extend my gratitude and offer you something in return. Your country may send someone to open a embassy here in Jafndægribjǫð (Equinox Fields) our capital.

I hope this letter finds you well and brings you good tidings

Highway 21, Somewhere in Askeland...

Underneath the tyres of the 113th Mechanized Infantry Company sped the deep black tar of a regional highway. Then, suddenly, great lines cut across it, as the convoy of fourteen armored personnel carriers and several more trucks crossed another regional border. The occupants did not know why nobody manned the border checkpoints, even though at this point it was just a formality. The political entities that made up Askeland had been in the process of consolidating itself into a single entity for a long while now, and every Orestean soldier now making breakneck pace across the region understood that. Their broken camp was erected to coordinate military exercises in the first place; the men and women of Askeland needed to work together, across previously established borders, and learn to defend everybody's homes, not just each unit's hometown.

Which was why, sitting near the front of the column inside a command Stryker armored vehicle, Captain Severa Lonero didn't understand what was going on. The orders given to him earlier were clear: evacuate the camp entirely and regroup at the battalion headquarters, some hours distance into the heart of Askeland. But all along the route, they saw the nordic army where they shouldn't, and didn't where they should. They passed convoys of soldiers and tanks going the opposite direction, and even overtook some. They didn't have time to stop and chat, carrying everyone's personal affects plus fuel and ammunition on the outside of the armor, sprinting their slowest trucks to regroup as fast as possible - as per orders. Guard posts simply sat unoccupied and the soldiers who could see out their vehicles just watched the Askelanders rumble by. Captain Lonero sat in the commander's seat of his own Stryker, face down in the communications workspace, when the driver spoke up and smacked the vehicle's wall to get his attention.

"Captain," he said, "You need to turn out right the fuck now!" And so Lonero did, unlocking the commander's hatch and standing up on his seat, reflexively straining his eyes to see in the inky night before realizing that wasn't necessary.

Some distance up ahead, already passing the lead vehicles in the convoy, was a wreck on the side of the road, flaming. It was old, but clearly blown apart and still somewhat alight. It wasn't until they got closer that Lonero's eyes grew wide and he bent down into the vehicle to ask his command staff: "Does Askeland have fucking Strykers?" The expletive and his alert tone was quite unbecoming of a Captain addressing his staff, but they had their own hatches to lean out of, and they saw it, too. The wreck was an unmistakable eight-wheeled Stryker, a command variant just like theirs, hatches blown open from the inside.

"Sir, last as I'm aware they do not," replied a clearly worried officer. "Maybe it's from the 85th. They might've had to take this road too..."

The Captain turned and watched the wreck pass by them. He couldn't see any evidence of its inhabitants' fate, inside or out, and quickly grabbed hold of his radio; though he hesitated before sending the message. "Convoy," he said, having to swallow, "Convoy, we are continuing on. Observe the wreck upcoming on your right. Unless you see signs of her personnel, keep going. Do not stop. Do not stop." Captain Lonero sat back down in his seat, keeping the hatch open and letting the cool night air eventually flow through onto his clammy skin. Something was going on.

MAY 13 12:20 OST - OFFICIAL DISPATCH FROM OFFICE OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS - PRESS RELEASE

Regarding The Newly Formed Republic of Askeland

It is with great pride that the People's Republic of Orestea receives official declaration of the sovereignty of the Askeland Republic.
As we have shown and will continue to show with the joint training effort outlined in our White Forests agreement, Orestea is proud and supportive of another group of distinct peoples uniting to form a power with a common interest.
President Eyasu hopes to visit Askeland very soon in order to display the Orestean people's love directly!

Sunday, May 12th, 15:00
5th Orestean Mechanized Infantry Battalion Headquarters, Askeland

Askeland was smart; they had seen exactly what happened when regions united into a larger power many times before. The largest, and most realistic, concern was of course a foreign power taking immediate issue. Protection of an ethnic minority, exercising of an ancient claim to the newly-sovereign land, simple fear or opportunism... all of this called for the Askeland Republic to be a strong entity, and to show it as soon as possible.

It was why the White Forests agreement was such a slam dunk. Orestea was, simply, their cheapest option, but while Askeland was exporting timber and precious metals to them at an insane discount to pay for the military aid, Orestea got what it really wanted: exposure. Askelanders and international watchdogs alike still talked about how the fighter squadron of twelve aging MiGs flew circles around the Nordic pilots in mock dogfights, or how the 5th Battalion 'captured' thousands of prisoners in their initial wargames. A minuscule, peaceful island in comparison to Askeland, Orestea and her soldiers were hungry to prove what they could do, and to the delight of Askeland the Nord forces quickly picked up the pace and united together against these foreign 'aggressors'. Within six short months, the Askeland air forces were flying in beautiful formations and with lethal, cooperative tactics - and their ground units became deadly on the defense, learning from a people who had spent hundreds of years fighting in vain against one outside takeover after another.

But this cleverness was also why Askeland was mobilizing its forces - all of its forces - the night before its declaration, and with very little warning to the head of Orestean forces, Lieutenant Colonel Guadenzia Magnani. This was not optimal.

She looked around the table, and saw her conspirators: two men sitting across the draped map and staring right back at her. They were by far not the only ones 'in' on the underbelly of White Forests, but they were the top dogs, and the only ones Guadenzia could trust in devising a plan going forward.

"I think we need to move now," said Aklilu Yohannes, Orestean diplomat to the Askelanders. "They told us to help with securing the roadways and to leave the borders to them. Nobody's gonna question if we move everyone all across the highway, but you need to figure out something past that. It's your ass on the line after tomorrow."

Cesare Forti crossed his arms and furrowed his brow. A Lieutenant Colonel like Guadenzia, he was in command of the 115th Fighter Squadron, the dedicated combat aircraft Orestea had brought to seriously test the Askelander pilots. "I'm not sure how much I can help you regardless. Perhaps we can smuggle something out on our planes... but I don't have control over the trainer flights, they hate me. But, well, we're... fighters. We need an airfield and they'll just ground us. It's simple as that."

Magnani sighed, and looked back down at the map. "My biggest hurdle will be my men, sadly," she said. Her tone was regretful, but it didn't stop her from making the plan to be enacted throughout the night and into the next morning. "They have worked with Askelanders for six months. They know unification is coming. I will need to guarantee, absolutely, their loyalty to the plan... is this really the step forward? How can it even be done?"

"I have several ideas," replied Yohannes readily. Magnani and Forti both were surprised, as the diplomat began to gesture along the map of Askeland. "Colonel Magnani, please look here, at Highway 21. Do you see it?"

The Ministers' Complex, Jafndaegribjodh, the Askeland Republic

Ptolemia bowed slightly to Sigmund, then to Thormar and Olaf in turn. A proper Mythic greeting would have been a kiss on the lips to a person of equal rank, or a kiss on the cheek to someone slightly lower, but this wasn't Mythaca. Unlike the three ministers before her, Ptolemia had already dressed for the festival outside, but with the official toga for her rank wrapped around her linen dress. Her salt-and-pepper hair was done up in a bun, as befit a matron of her age. "Thank you for taking your time out of the festivities to see me, ministers," she said. She produced a letter with flowing script in the Mythic language, not unlike ancient Greek. As she opened it, she continued, "I have the letter here, and I am empowered to read it to you and wait for your response.

"'I swear by Zeus of oath-keepers and all Mythics, and by all gods and goddesses, making them my witnesses, that to the best of my ability I will read the first letter sent from the Republic to your government,'" Ptolemia invoked, smiling. She paused for a moment, to let her subtle acknowledgment of Askeland's sovereignty even in this generic oath sink in. "'If I keep faith with our gods, may I live in their favour. But if I transgress and swear falsely, let the reverse be my lot.

"'Sosthenes and Archelaos, consuls to the Senate and people of the Republic, welcome the Askeland Republic as a new sovereign and democratic state into the international community, and pledge to uphold the rights that follow this recognition,'" Ptolemia continued. She paused again, then made a mental note to omit the word 'new' from this point on. "'As there are rights, the consuls want to remind you of your responsibility to your people, and the continued goodwill of our Republic. Ministers, I am to deliver these terms following our recognition of your sovereignty.'"

The mood had shifted from friendliness to a tense silence. Ptolemia sighed under her breath, and resolved to get this over with.

"'First, the government of the Askeland Republic shall consolidate the debt owed to Mythic people and corporations, valued at $1 trillion, and repay it in full or over a reasonable period of time.'"

Silence.

"'Second,'" Ptolemia persevered. "'The government of the Askeland Republic shall not impose tariffs on its exports to the Republic, or on its imports from the Republic.'"

More silence.

"'Third,'" Ptolemia paused again. Browbeating the Askeland government was perhaps necessary, given that other nations were already circling around Askeland like carrion birds. But Ptolemia had grown to respect Askeland's traditions and the working ethics of the three men before her. She therefore resolved to change one last detail and chalk it up to her 'poor' grasp of the Norse language in the translation from Mythic. "'The government of the Askeland Republic shall cede a single island to the Republic in perpetuity.'" As an aside, she added: "For what it is worth, I am sorry."

Mythaca

The Askelander trio that, to the best of their ability, remained quite through out the entirety of the small speech the Mythaca had sent with Ptolemia to deliver to them. Sigmund had remain un-moving during it, only now after what she had said had his eye went wide in shock. Thormar's jaw had dropped at the last point, as for Olaf was visibly shaken as he turn a slightly redder hue.

"I..." Sigmund attempted but shook his head immediately as he already disagreed with what he was going to say. Thormar to the rains and drove it home.

"The Nation will not be giving up any land to the nation of Mythaca." He said sternly. especially since Mythaca has no claim to Askeland at all."

Olaf then found his voice and spoke. "We will repay our debts in a timely matter however, Mythaca has no rights to meddle in how we pay our labors on developing our goods and what prices they will be charged in tariffs." He said plainly crossing his arms and looking at Sigmund who was now attempting to find some neutral ground to calm the situation.

"Brothers, you know as well as I this will have to be brought before the clans before we decide anything," Sigmund reasoned, As Ptolemia is one of our guest we should see to her well being first before moving to the... heavier topics."

Both Thormar and Olaf had stern faces but agreed with a nod from both of them. They had put her in a Guest-house near the city center while they organized the arrangements for Mythic people in their country.

"Why don't we let her have use of one of the diplomatic homes here at the Ministers Complex." Thormar lighten as he calmed down. "She would be safe during these proceeding here with out any issues and the people she had brought with her could stay on the grounds as well and they would be able to see to the security of the home while the Grenadiers Guard can focus on the property as a whole and the building that she uses can act as a Embassy for the time being."

"Ptolemia, What say you?" Olaf then spoke with his arms still crossed.

The following morning, Jobjorn Orgumleidisson arrived with another letter waiting for him. It was from the government of Cerinda, upon opening, he found that he only wrote a few sentences. Which didn't strike him as very neighborly. He wondered what would the best reaction to this. His army were deployed to the borders the only way that they would be able to advance on the country is from coming in by sea. Jobjorn had in the end decide to put as much effort as Cerinda did and toss the letter into the garbage and went back to the work of maintaining his nation.

Official Statement on Askeland Relations

The Kingdom of Rezmaeristan congratulates Askeland on its independence. Although Rezmaeristan is officially non-interventionist, we view it in our best interests to obtain an ally. Therefore, by order of the Grand Vizier, a delegation is to be dispatched to Askeland for discussion of trade agreements and the opening of diplomatic missions. It is also our view that our peoples are linked by blood and tongue as Indo-Europeans, which we hope will strengthen an alliance if it is made.

His Grace Marquis Jamishil Nurhala, Secretary of Foreign Relations

Vali Silavai recieved the dispatch.
The aide, an average height man in a blue-green diplomatic tunic and matching turban with a strawberry blonde mustache and blue eyes, said to him:
"As you probably know, Mr. Silavai, it's your duty to seek out relations with geopolitical entities in the global North. Your delegation will include some Rezmaeri businessmen, and candidates for ambassador. Of course, only the Council of Syndicates can choose and approve the ambassador, but the Askeland Republicans may have someone they like. Good luck."
Silavai exited the office and met up with his group in the lobby of the Foreign Relations Center. They included:

[*]Iskandir Gaurig'k, CEO of Gaurig'k Hotels and Hospitality. 5'11, 190 lbs, light brown hair, blue eyes, wearing a gray tunic with blue trim and an a blue-and-orange patterned sash, with a turban similarly colored to his tunic.
[*]Anil Supakar, Spokesman for Sebizatsp Transportation. 6'0, 185 lbs, blonde hair, blue eyes, wearing a solid green knee-length tunic over pants, with a grayish-black box-like pointy hat wrapped with a green scarf.
[*]Timuk Urezha, Advertising Head of Tikumi'irhai(Rez. abbreviation for "National Aviation Company") 6"0, 200 lbs, strawberry blonde hair, brown eyes, wearing a long black vest over a red tunic, and a black skullcap.
Four diplomats:
Farhig Dashtikad, Prince Piruv Taarij'k(nephew of the Shah), Raihun Mirighan, Gizfa Turakhan. The diplomatic personnel wore the diplomatic tunics and turbans(for Mirigan and Turakhan, the female version, which had a headband and headscarf covering the back, but not the sides and front of the head)

The group entered a limo and headed for the airport.

10.5 hours later

The group's plane landed. "Nice weather", remarked Supakar. Silavai reminded him and the group: "We're here as potential friends, not as unwilling "big brothers". Act like it." as they headed for their hotel.
Syndicate Protection Bureau Headquarters-Intelligence Section

A man in plainclothes handed a file to an agent known as Sishkan'r.

"There's a new country on the map. Your mission is to find if there's any fascist or Third Positionist movements in this country. If you do, notify me immediately and I'll release your findings to Khudril at the main Party Outreach." (Khazish Khudril is the RWSF International Outreach head)

Sishkan'r exited. He wasn't dressed like a typical Rezmaeri; he was wearing a western business suit so he could blend in while in Askeland. Since Rezmaeris look European and he'd practiced a Nordic accent, he'd be virtually undetectable. Practicing his introduction, Sishkan'r said to himself:
"Name is Jorgen Birkenhalt."

The Ministers' Complex, Jafndaegribjodh, the Askeland Republic

A house to hide me in and guards to surveil me, Ptolemia thought to herself. She had deflated somewhat, weary from the speech, but persevered. "Thank you for your hospitality, Thormar, but I have not been empowered to establish a formal embassy here until this matter is resolved. If I might speak off the record, the consuls have done something terrible today, and I regret being the one who delivered this letter to you. May the gods and goddesses watch over your festival and your Assembly's deliberations." She bowed once while exiting, then paused.

"I will have to send word of our conversation to the Senate, but the last thing I want is escalation. If there is anything I might do to help, you know which guest-house I'll be staying in."

The Senate, Thalassos, Mythaca

To Sosthenes the consul,

Askeland agreed to the second provision, and is deliberating on the first and third. I am waiting for further instructions.

Ptolemia

"A provocation and escalation, conscript fathers and mothers!" Archelaos shouted on the Senate floors, his rhetoric hitting new heights of anger. He had convened the Senate for an emergency meeting. "The Republic has reached its hand out in friendship to a new nation, and what do they do but spit on that friendship? What ignorance born of an unready mind barely fit to govern!"

"The Centuriate Assembly would never accept war, Sosthenes!" One senator shouted over him, and others followed suit. Still, Sosthenes had planned for this.

Sosthenes tutted, wagging his finger at the senator, while walking around the edge of the raised platform at the Senate's centre. "Ah, Lucernus, there are more tools in our toolbox than war! I propose that we mobilize our fleets and form a naval blockade around this offending nation. No ships come in and no ships come out, until they see how reasonable our demands were!" And if they dared to fire on our ships, Sosthenes thought, but held back his tongue. The Centuriate Assembly could do nothing but accept war. Think how large the reparations owed by Askeland would be!

"Does anyone stand to forbid my prerogative as consul to mobilize the navy?" Other magistracies held the right of forbiddance; if any one of them stood up and that ancient word veto, 'I forbid it,' was heard, any matter before an assembly or the Senate must be dropped. Still, no-one invoked that right today. Sosthenes smiled in triumph and turned to his military liaison to give the order.

2 days ago... Aeos- Capitol city of the Hobbeebian Imperium- Imperial Palace- Tower of the Tribunal

Above the busy streets below stood the mighty central tower of Imperial Palace known as Tribunal. It served as the seat of full Imperial power housing the three thrones of the Emperors and the Imperial Court. It was a massive structure made only greater is status by the fact it was made entirely of carved and polished white marble, and gold and silver inlay designs with large blue glass windows- the same as the entire palace. It was the center piece to the city and arranged and planned meticulously. It was probably the most planned city in the whole of the world. Today, however, all the attention was inside the palace as the Emperors sat before the Imperial Court hearing and ruling on the various issues which plagued daily life of all humans and all nations. Most ruling functions generally fell to the Lords of the various provinces while if need be taking the issues up the chain of command.

Today was no different then any other until news of a new nation being born caught the attention of the Emperors. The news was brought by a citizen-subject who lived near in the northern province of Crownhold.

My Lords... Your Graces... My Emperors... the man prostrated himself properly and honorably with a slight bow before his Lords and Ladys before falling to a full kneel before the Emperors and their families.

You honor us with your humility citizen. You seem to bare great news- what is it? asked the Emperor Ca'rl as he waved for the man to stand properly. As he did he handed over a piece of parchment which held a print out of the original declaration embossed upon it to a Guardian of Light who looked it over before handing it over to the Emperors for their personal inspection.

Hobbeebius was the next to speak. This...Askeland Republic- Do we know from whom they are declaring sovereignty from? Or why?

The man shook his head no before giving a vocal confirmation. At this time your Majesty we can only ascertain limited information based on the little coming out. Although it would seem that this new nation is looking for international support in recognition of its claim. As one might expect, some nations have rallied to their cause while other have decided on more... predatory actions.

The Emperors looked at one another slightly and then Johnnius spoke. The Imperium has little reason to explore relations outside of the Gholgoth region. Has anyone found sufficient reason to look for positive relations with this new nation?

The court fell silent before Lord Skyisaw spoke up. Your majesty... This new nation is far closer to my province then to the interior of Imperial lands. I believe if we pursue relation we would likely find a new market for exports and as always a new friend of the Imperium would serve to expand our influence deeper into the world as a whole.

The Emperors once again looked to each other and Hobbeebius replied. Indeed Lord Skyisaw... I hereby appoint you as the Ambassador to this new nation. In order to ensure Imperial interested are protected you will be accompanied by Princess Freyia. May the Godkings guide and protect you while you meet these people.

Lord Skyisaw gave a gracious bow and allowed the Princess to leave before himself walking through the large obsidian doors which separate the Imperial Throne Room from the Hall of Honor where various glass statues of former Emperors lined the walls with golden lights shining through them from the feet up while angled windows let soft blue light rain down to the floor below bringing intricate designs forming outlines of the Imperial Family seal. As the pair walked past the doors and down the double grand stair cases where 6 Guardsmen and a single Guardian of Light standing by in front of the Eternal Flame of the Imperium. As the two came face to face with the team they snapped to an Imperial salute with a sharp step standing tall and tight with their left arms across their chest.

Your Grace... We will be your security detachment for your diplomatic mission. Should you need anything- do not hesitate to ask. The princess smiled politely but is was only a cover for the fear of failure that she hid inside. What is your name? she asked towards the Guardsmen commanding officer.

My name is Master Guardsmen Henrick Rvostrok of House Rvostrok. she nodded at his name and walked past the group towards the massive platform with chains on four sides made of links nearly as large as a person, though nowadays they where generally for show as the platform was driven by maglift technology. With a few clicks the pltform locks dis engaged and it began to descend to the main palace below. All the while more and more statues still lined the walls of the tower as they got lower and lower- a testament to the longevity of the Imperium and its imperial family.

Its amazing such a family has existed for so long. mused Lord Skyisaw as he paced looking at the statues only fleetingly. The Princess only gave him a glance and a sharp response. And yet yours is young.

A number of minutes had pasted when finally the platform came to rest at the bottom floor where the palace was most alive with reporters, commoners and business owners came and went on both business and pleasure occasions. The Size and scale of the palace and its grounds allowed for a number of public areas for people to come and go on various forms of business ranging from personal to commercial and beyond. It was also home to the Office of Imperial Justicars who acted as judges of imperial law ranging from noble family disputes to treason. Oftentimes presiding over formal duels as a means of solving personal matters.

As the Princess passed the Justicars would halt and proffer a salute as she passed as a sign of respect through they where under no obligation to do so while performing official duties. As the teams exited the public zone they met up with various aides whom had already been given word of the diplotic mission and had prepared clothing and luggage for their immediate departure to the Askeland Republic. Awaiting them outside were 4 black Armored SUV's with engines running.

You know... for once I would like to not have everything done for me. sneered Skyisaw as he entered his truck and the door was closed. The Guardsmen didn't offer a response before taking their seat and the convoy began to drive to the International airport where their plane was already fueled and waiting...

Arriving at Jafndægribjǫð

The Flight was longer then they had anticipated and upon touching down the Princess was all to eager to take a look and see this nation she was sent to and what they currently had going for them. There is so much snow here. Is it always this cold in the Northern reaches like Crownhold? asked the Princess as she felt the cold air from the outside cool the planes windows. Lord Skyisaw chuckled. Your Grace this is Spring... or at the very least close to its beginning. I doubt it will be as snow covered all year long.

For now they would await an Askeland Republic security detail to meet them and begin their escort to more appropriate accommodations and hopefully a meeting where she could deliver the letter she had been given from her father.

To Jobjorn Orgumleidisson and the people of Askeland Republic

It is a momentous occasion when a new nation with such rich and vibrant culture and prospects of prosperity determines that they and no other shall have rule over it and its people. At this very moment though your people will likely never know or understand it, your nation stands at the cusp of a bright and promising future or calamity at the hands of those who would rather see you fall and branded as a failure. It is a heavy weight to bare though we have faith that you and your people will bare it proudly. This, however, is not to say you shall bare it alone. Many nations from around the world will rally to you, and as a wish leader you would do well to determine what they can offer your nation and its people. A wise man once said ' Not all you wander are lost and not all who smile are friendly.

It is in this line of thinking that I wish to send an Ambassador to your nation to facilitate a dialogue between our nations and see where we might be able to provide each other with a means of further building positive relations in the fields of diplomacy, defenses, and trade. You can expect the Ambassador to arrive shortly to your nation via aircraft which will be carrying the callsigns and IFF transponders indicating a diplomatic mission. Their mission to you will be exploratory. If during this time it is found that there is nothing to gain for both our of our people except from a new friend then let that be our status.

He will be accompanied by Crowned Princess Freyia Ikcarus, Lady of Scalla and her Imperial Guardsmen detachment. The Ambassadors name is Lord Skyisaw Lothroch. We hope that our mission here will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Briefing Tent, Orestean 5th Battalion HQ, Askeland

Captain Lonero was seated in a folding chair, shouldered alongside his platoon commanders, platoon sergeants, and other important command staff from his company. Their counterparts, of the 85th and 91st companies, sat in the same group, with top officers of the command company and their heavy support platoon elsewhere inside the tent; suspiciously absent was Lieutenant Maria Schaab, the only foreign-blooded officer in the battalion and commander of the 74th Support Weapons Platoon, the battalion's big guns.

Having all arrived intermittently some hours ago and having debriefed command staff on their journeys, the officers were anxious, finally standing to attention as the Lieutenant Colonel entered the tent. She quickly let them sit back down and walked to the waiting map board to begin her briefing.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I won't waste your time. We all know the situation is serious," Guadenzia Magnani began, face stern. The commanders of the 5th Battalion respected their leader precisely for her briefings: to the point, and with care. "Some of you may have questions as to the disabled command vehicle of 74th, and I will get to that. But I've decided we have a job to do. This will be a mission briefing, which I will begin now."

Lonero looked quickly around the crowd of officers. Nobody else seemed to have expected this, but everyone was prepared for it. They had lost at least four million lires worth of military hardware the other night, and nobody knew why - except for Lt Col Magnani. Outside the tent, vehicles were being tended to, equipment offloaded, and soldiers, who had spent all night in terrible sleeping positions as their units raced to the headquarters, remained awake and alert. Magnani pursed her lips, then opened them, and began lying to her soldiers' faces:

"Our situation:
"Almost all ground personnel are accounted for and regrouped at battalion headquarters, here. Our planes remain safe in their hangars, here. Our diplomat is en route to the Orestean consulate, at his insistence, with escort personnel detached from headquarters security.
"Last night, while regrouping and returning to battalion headquarters, the armored vehicles of the 74th were ambushed during a stop alongside this stretch of Highway 21, assailant identity unknown. An explosive device was lobbed from the roadside ditch into the opened command vehicle, detonating, causing a loss of the vehicle and detonation of stored ammunition. The 74th was forced to retreat under continued harassment. Lieutenant Schaab and most of the vehicle's crew is MIA at this time."

The tent was dead silent. There was, obviously, the fear of an attack, but nobody really wanted to believe it until Magnani's confirmation. Now that it was a fact, everybody took the briefing with dead seriousness, especially with the head of their heavy weapons cut off. Magnani's next words drove that stake that much deeper:

"Enemy situation:
"As some of you may have found out, today, the Askeland Republic was formalized. The reorganizations this consists of will not practically go into effect for some time, in both the military and government. However, due to the large mobilization of Askeland personnel and equipment, and the proximity of the attack against us, we are considering the ambush to be an aggressive action from the Askeland Republic against the military of Orestea.
"Askeland regulars have been sent to secure land borders to the north, east, and southwest, as well as being deployed to island defense installations. Reserve forces have been ordered to reactivate in an emergency capacity to defend the major cities and highways. We believe one such unit may have attacked the 74th, however, Askeland has also begun the process of recognizing, and deputizing, independent militias throughout the country, who are as we speak gathering their forces. They are another potential cause for the attack.
"All of this was done without informing us."

Magnani let a silence hang over the tent. She surveyed her officers, most of whom were taking their own shorthand notes, or simply paying attention as best they could. Her gaze lingered over the Captains of the 85th and 91st companies, Wambugua Wakiuru and Keambiroiro, respectively. Something was understood between their looks, an understanding which wasn't there as she glanced towards Captain Lonero.

"I know this is a lot to take in so far. Now is the time for questions; once I explain our mission, I'll want it acted upon as soon as possible."

An embassy was good, excellent in fact. Not only would it serve as a nice gesture of cooperation amongst the Kenmorian and Askeland nations, which would be a good end in itself due to the symbolic value, but it would also have practical implications with regards to consular support and trade. Swiftly, a letter was sent back regarding the construction of the building. It would be good to proceed as quickly as possible, lest the Nordic nation be invaded before a proper relationship could be established.

Dear Head Minister Jobjorn Orgumleidisson,

Thank you for your response. It is certainly correct that an embassy will greatly improve relationships between our two countries, by enabling an exchange of consular services, as well as a figurehead for trade and cultural programs. Therefore, I gladsomely accept the idea of building one in Jafndægribjǫð, where I am sure it will be visited by all in the Equinox Fields.

I have picked an ambassador for the task, Delphine White, who will be briefed and then sent to Askeland for the construction of the embassy. Of course the building will take time to make and finish, but I hope that it can be completed quickly. For this reason, I have selected a particularly competent Kenmorian firm, Employment Innovation, for the task. They should be with you within a few days.

Sincere regards,
Jonathan Fletcherson, Kenmorian Minister for Foreign Affairs

Construction Enterprises would have been the traditional choice, but it would be good to go for a slightly less corporate firm. Employment Innovation was a Kenmorian company that specialised in a range of industries, and therefore was given the task in order to have a permanent position supplying the embassy.

3rd Corps (Reserve), 27th Assault Battalion "You Wont Break Us"
Highway 21, Combat Team "Mike", Captain Thrand Firthgestsson

The 27th Assault Battalion was tasked to patrol the highways of the Askeland heartland. While most of the 3rd Corps were Defending major cities near the main point of ingress and the only Sea Access available to them acting as reserves for the main forces, 3 units from 3rd Corps a mostly Reserve Army Corps were Patrolling the country side via the main routes through the country. Captain Thrand Firthgestsson, was riding in his STRV 212 MBT when his first Platoon called out a report.

"Mike-06, this is Mike-16, We have a Orestea Stryker on the side of the road here... Looks Burned out, over"

Thrand visibly reacted to that, Burned out? He thought, is this a training op? A few days earlier they had sent the message along to the residing commander over the Orestean forces in Askeland to consolidate their postions as it was giving marching orders to its Corps to defend the borders of Askeland. It must have been a malfunction of some kind. And they had to abandon it... Though the Orestean's trained him to recover the vehicle afterward to send it to the Field Recovery/and Maintenance team back at battalion if it indeed happened. So why did the Orestean's neglect this IFV?

"Mike-06 to Mike Callsigns Full Stop, Herringbone around that IFV." Thrand started. "Mike-16 set up past the Wreck, Mike-26 about 200 meter in front. Mike-36 Set up at the site. Mike-05, Mike-07, meet me at my track when we've halted.

Combat Team "Mike" is a STRV-212 Armored combat team, with Six available platoons. It is a company sized element of the 27th Assault Battalion. The Combat Team is created by using a Mechanized Infantry Battalion and or a Armored Battalion and mixing their units to create a combat team within their Division. However since a Askeland Assault Battalion already has both Mechanized and Armoured units within its Battalion they can create their own combat teams.

Upon arriving at the site, he disembarked, He could see from ontop his tank that the platoons were going into a defensive posture and the infantry platoon (Mike-36) was setting up a security cordon In both ditches on either side of the 21 Highway. His second (Mike 07) had pulled up behind him with the 1st Sergeants vehicles which included the Vehicle recovery track which its engineers were already looking through the lone IFV.

"What the fuck is going on" Thrand Cursed under his breath. He was too green for this shite and he would be none to pleased to find out what Orestea had done.

PenguinLand Official Address to newly formed Askeland Republic

State Responds to srcamble for influence in region as International Ambassador and acting Foreign Minister make joint address.

Dominic Ching Shen in his offical state address:
" It is a wonderous time to see a new nation born, particularly one that is so close to home. The region will benefit from the addition of the Askeland Republic, may it prosper and bring it's citizens the enjoyment of the knowledge that it is surrounded by allies in the international community. We are not the first, yet we venture our hand in friendship. I, myself will be personally flying over to meet with dignataries and representatives of the Askeland government in the hopes of securing a deal to cover all relations pertaining to diplomacy, trade and defense. We hope for the mutual co-operation of our two nations, in a future that we will both benefit from. It is our hope to provide a stable and strong ally for the republic in it's times of need. "

Marlvin Andrejovic, head of the Diplomatic corps (and current acting Foreign Minister) follows up the address:
" On behalf of the PenguinLand National Government I grant full diplomatic recognition and the privelleges there of to the Askeland Republic and it's government. Stability, is something that we will ensure to prosper with our deal to the Askeland Republic. There are many who would seek to gain advantage of this newly birthed nation, many who would attempt to corrupt it for their own gain. I emplore the Askeland government to seek out those and be wary and cautious, for it is a trying time for every nation when it is newly formed. The forces and stresses of power, must be kept on the right side, on the side that will ensure stability and keep peace. I personally warn the Askeland government against signing any deal with any power that would violate it's sovereignity or harm any future relations between itself and the PenguinLand, before considering our offer of friendship".

Two Crusiers dispatched to patrol Askeland Waters

Two cruisers the Zhukov and the Marinas have been dispatched to patrol the international boundry between the PenguinLand's waters and Askeland. The intent of the cruisers is yet unknown, it is suspected that they are simply conducting training excersises before going on route to escort the International Ambassador and Head of the Diplomatic corps, later this week. They hope to discuss a deal proposed earlier today which strenghten relations between both nations. The contents or terms of the deal is yet unknown, however there is speculation that the deal will contain an out clause for any Askeland shipping to skip import tariffs. If true, Askeland would be only the 6th nation to be allowed to do so, without being part of an economic bloc or having a pre-existing defense agreement.

Somewhere in Askeland...

The mission plan called to again divide Orestea's 5th Battalion into their respective companies, each one going their own way to their objective. However, unlike the night before, this movement did not include the entirety of those companies. As per orders, the logistical and non-combat staff were to remain at battalion headquarters, alongside the 74th Platoon with their missiles and bastard tank; for security reasons.

Captain Lonero's orders were simple: the 113th Mechanized Infantry Company would advance to the airfield in defilade, and present themselves to security. They would explain the incident with the command Stryker from the night before, and the Lieutenant Colonel's insistence that Orestea guarantees the safety of her aircraft and aircrew. The other companies had similar missions, but Lonero's was unique: they were not to take 'no' for an answer from airbase security. They were to detain anyone who turned them away.

Fourteen Strykers moved down the dirt and gravel-filled backroads connecting the battalion headquarters to the airfield where the Orestean air forces were housed. It only made sense to connect the ground force with the fighter aircraft via a short distance, but that distance was through trees. Captain Lonero sat himself as the ninth soldier in the lead Stryker, having to more or less sit on the floor while he was surrounded by the leadership and weapons team from his first platoon, all of them but especially him being ready to jump from the vehicle at a moment's notice. Even though they didn't expect anyone from the general public or patrolling Askeland military to see them traveling through the woods, they still had to move slowly, and another ambush would be fatal to the first vehicle it touched.

Lonero thought uneasily about the duffel bags of aircrew personal effects, and boxes of supplies, that they were bringing to the airbase with them; he didn't like thinking about digging in during such a situation. The driver of his Styker told the occupants that they were only five minutes from the airfield gate, and they all cursed.

Sunday, May 13th, Mid Afternoon
Highway 21

The lead vehicle of Orestea's 91st Company braked hard after it crested the short hill, revealing it to Askeland's 27th Assault Battalion, and vice versa.

For several minutes it stayed, the remote-controlled weapon atop it swaying slightly back and forth, up and down, the vehicle doing nothing but the crew clearly scoping out the military formation. Only the haze of the engine and its exhaust moved otherwise. The Oresteans were a tense statue, outgunned and in the sudden spotlight, even silent on the frequency they were meant to be contacted by.

Then, they spoke up: "Alright, we're coming over." Only, the lead vehicle didn't move; from behind the hill another Stryker appeared, this one unarmed and with the crew poking out of their little hatches, and a third woman besides them sitting atop it. While the second vehicle swerved around, remounting the pavement, the other began to slowly reverse before disappearing entirely. The 91st would be turning around, now, finding an alternate backroad which would let them circumvent the entire situation; Captain Keambiroiro, their commander, was more brave, waving from atop her command vehicle as it approached the first line of defense.

"What are they gonna do," she said to the vehicle's commander, "Arrest me for thanking them?"

Subject: Askeland Independence
To: Jobjorn Orgumleidisson
From: Princely House of Draycora

Gracious Head Minister Jobjorn Orgumleidisson,

Throughout the Principality, people were divided on the independence of your nation. After the people's representatives in the thing and the scholars in the senate voted for the recognition of the Askeland Republic, a referendum was held, which was also positive. After a consultation with my Privy Council, I put my signature under the recognition.
I will send you the Foreign Minister of our Principality, who will look at the situation of the country and talk to some officials to negotiate certain things:
1. A trade agreement to increase our mutual prosperity
2. A travel agreement to promote cultural exchange and natural law for freedom of movement.

In all honor,
Nyyrikki Hakkinen

Prince of Drakonia, Emperor of the Elves

Julija Saarinen looked at her laptop to look at the State Department's report on the Askeland Republic. The young diplomat sat in a private plane with the Foreign Minister, Akaati Paasikivi, who both flew to this country. Opposite her sat the statesman leaning back in his seat. In his right hand he waved a glass of red wine, which is a rather unusual drink in Draycora. The minister's eyes were closed. He probably went through his speech, which was in the form of a pile of paper in front of him.
Julija shook her head. She could not believe how Parliament and the people could vote for recognition. Even the prince, our wise head of state, advocated this agenda. Especially the civil rights situation made Julija doubt this decision.
She should be happy. She had not been in the ministry for long, and now she got such an important job. In addition, she met for the first time the prince personally, who wished her and the minister much success, and now she flew into an exotic country full of high personalities that she will meet. She leaned back in the seat and looked out the window. How far they were probably already? Did they leave the land of kings and emperors? As if on call, the announcement of the pilot sounded.
"We are going to land in the Commonwealth".
Julija was excited. What will she expect now?

Battalion Security Team, Team Echo, Sgt. Mjr. Grim Gyrdsson

Sergeant Major Gyrdsson was in charge of the Airbases security as this Airbase doubled as the nations main Airport. As not alot of people traveled to the Nation as of yet. He would take on tasks better left to airport security. On the list today was to organize a delegation from Hobbeebia to travel to the capital with their people with a security detail. Also with the local Orestean Fighter Squadron, they had been testy with the Logistics personnel and he would have to sort them out.

The Rest of the 312th Battalion was held up in their barracks while the attached Military Police Troop had patrols and guards posted. The troop was accented with Civilian Police from Jafndægribjǫð to keep safe the Airport.

At the moment he and two of his men were driving a small convoy of vehicles over to the landed plane belonging to the Hobbeebian delegation. The two black SUV's would be able to transport the Hobbeebian delegation to the 312th's 3rd Troop forming a convoy that would transport them off the airport and into the 40th Armored Battalion that was tasked to the defense of Jafndægribjǫð.

The Octopus,
Kirkhill
The Kingdom of Crookfur

As the early morning sunlight seeped its way around the heavy drapes of the royal apartments, King Cameron (The 4th of his name) luxuriated in the calm and quiet that preceded the start of another busy day of meetings and events.
However as he relaxed he couldn't stop his mind turning to the memorial events of the beginning of the month and that terrible day 16 years ago when the burden of kingship was dropped upon as though from a great height.

What a long and eventful 16 years it had been; in the early part of his reign the Kingdom had been brash and confident, striding across the face of the world at the head of various illustrious alliances, asserting its will upon new territories and even the very nature of naval warfare. Of course challengers arose and Crookfur gradually lost her taste for large scale involvement, limiting itself to helping in only the direst of situations against some of the more unusual threats to face the world. To this day the Crookfur Royal navy was still an immensely powerful force that sailed the world at will but now it did so quietly and politely, providing aid and support by force of arms for those allies who needed it and against the global slaver threat.

Seeking distraction, the king rolled out of bed and moved to his office to access the latest reports, maybe it was time that Crookfur made herself widely known once more and maybe there were nations out there who needed to know that the world was not a dark a terrifying place and that there were some mighty beacons of light to found if you knew where to look. Scrolling through the various briefings he came a cross a name that looked promising. Lifting his phone he called the duty desk,

"Ah, good morning Watkins, would you kindly see who is awake at the Foreign Office and if possible see if we could slot in a meeting with Mr Thompson this afternoon?"

"What is this about? Well let them know i would like to discuss Askeland..."

Thus the cogs of the Crookfur government turned towards Askeland and instead of a merely passive addition to the list of recognised nations a formal announcement and direct message were released.

Official Announcement from the Kingdom of Crookfur

Let it be known that the Crown and the People of the Kingdom of Crookfur hereby recognise the Askeland Republic as a sovereign and independent nation state with full sovereignty over its current territory.
We recognise the right of the current government and its lawful successors to govern said territories as they see fit and for the benefit of the republic's citizens.
We extend the hand of friendship to the people of Askeland and bid them congratulations and welcome to the wider world.

Diplomatic message

To: Jobjorn Orgumleidisson, The Askeland republic
Subject Greeting

Dear Sir,

Please allow me to convey the warmest greetings and salutations of behalf of the Crown and People of Crookfur. It is with pleasure that we receive news of your arrival on the world stage.
As you may be aware the Kingdom of Crookfur has made a formal announcement recognising your nation and your government and as such we would like to go further and establish formal relations between our two nations.
To this end I would like to propose an exchange of embassies to open an official channel for further dialog. Should this be acceptable to you and should you be amenable I would like to dispatch an ambassador to your nation at the earliest opportunity.

Warmest regards,
Fredrick Thompson
Foreign Secretary
The Kingdom of Crookfur
