It was dumbfounding though not entirely unexpected that the laughable "Nazi Basurian Empire" would began to organize an anti-Goetland military effort in response to a very natural and deserved assertion of not only the dominance and superiority of the Goetlander people - architects of the first sophisticated cultures on this barren waste, the Hemudu and Liangzhu cultures - but also of the grand, unpredictable and horror-inducing presence of natural order, which was far from the relatable, reductable and simplifiable set of observations the shallow-minded Basurians and their goons comprehended it as, and was rather an elaborate all-encompassing yet distinctly hostile and invasive force that was simply not possible to describe to full effect with any human language. Goetland was the only one of this wasteland to understand from day one the true role to play when confronting a malevolent god that was also the only holiness Man will ever know.

The expedition to the lower Yangtze that many Cathaysian nations were supposedly partaking in was taken eagerly as nothing more than an enthusiastic offering of sacrifices to Cthulhu. All discussions of the symbolism and horror found in the concept of sacrifice were already discoursed in detail by Joseph de Maistre and René Girard, neither of them Basurians, which was sure to prove that the sacrificial two-legged goats about to find themselves steamrolled by the advancement of techno-capital were never close to having the mere shred of insight about the true state of the universe and its nature. The use of bamboo rafts perhaps indicated that the Basurians themselves were actually aware of their fate, choosing the humblest of vessels to show their selflessness before a greater order they could never understand, and thus can only submit to, at the cost of their own utter discorporation and disintegration.

However, for the poorly prepared Basurian invaders, they would only find this to be an ideal environment for remorseless airborne delivery of their deaths with minimal need to consider for either the cover that they could take or civilian collateral damage as would be the case if the fighting took place in Shanghai. Having emphasized and replicated more effectively the stereotypically western doctrine of superiority in all aspects - quantity, quality, accuracy, economicity - in firepower, nothing really stopped Goetland from summoning Satan on the southwestern Yangtze delta to consign Basurian expeditionary forces to yet another inglorious dustbin of history, much like how they were dealt massacres barely able to be rewritten as 'pyrrhic heroic victories' during World War II by the Japanese.

Local Goetlander military and paramilitary forces, although no longer able to enjoy absolute control of the skies due to Basurian air cover that began in advance of their river-drifting adventure, were still able to densely scrutinize the area through low-flying probes such as drones and ostensibly civilian helicopter and crop duster flights, but mostly drones, as they were low-profile, and could be based in and deployed from any house, whereas most things resembling airfields were threatened by the possibility of Basurian air strikes. Compact quadcopter photography drones captured news of the clown-like Basurian incursion relatively quickly, and though the enemy appeared to have common sense of attempting to down anything flying around them, that was typically too late for the Goetlanders to simply receive news.

It was somewhat comforting that the garrison in this region were in fact not alone and backed up by another 50,000 irregulars and paramilitaries, a bizarre mixture of mobilized reservists handed inferior or outdated equipment, 'self-defense militias' part of Goetland's complex and deep civil society culture, fanatical Airsofters and other LARPers who wanted to play a 'real game' for once, troops raised by the Jiangnan Catholic Church for purposes of charity, relief work, and defense of churches, as well as foreign volunteers - not all mercenaries, some simply well-trained white nationalists looking for some blood to spill, another good deal of them Eastern European in a very striking callback to White Russian mercenaries in 1930s Shanghai. Nevertheless, however ferocious and effective they were, they would be at a disadvantage if a coalition army tried to invade through Hubei.

Lacking in quantity and not that optimistic on their quality, the Goetlander troops tried to optimize their performance in this situation through whatever favorable arrangement of factors and elements they could muster. The plethora of armies in the Republic's defense integrated their communications, planning, and battlespace through linking up to the same blockchain command and control network, this cutting-edge system awe-inspiring evidence of Goetland's technological superiority while at the same time showing very obvious benefits through its usage that could barely be compromised to any means while also minimizing errors and able to bring coordinating units even more closer to acting as an organic or even super-organic 'perfected whole'. There were mortar batteries in the hills near Nanling County city, Fanchang County city, Ma'anshan city, and east of Wuhu County city (not to be confused with the actual Wuhu city), utilizing 60mm, 82mm and 105mm caliber mortars and were the main sources of indirect fire; rocket artillery batteries southwest of Nanling county and northeast of Ma'anshan city, using Type 63 launchers, Type 81 vehicleborne launchers and a very small number of the dreaded M270 MLRS; and howitzer/field gun positions northwest of Xuancheng city and north of Wuhu city, using Type 99 self-propelled SPHs, the FH-70 towed howitzer, and a token Koksan gun copy initially used in shelling Jiangning/Nanjing city during the invasion of Chianghuelia. ATGM equipment mainly comprised old HJ-8 missiles, along with TOW and (Japanese) Type 87 systems copies. There was a modest amount of tank units though they used relatively outdated vehicles, mainly (Chinese) Type 59 and (Japanese) Type 74 tanks, instances of the former often lacking reactive armor, though a single tank brigade and another mechanized brigade had access to Type 90 clones. Another mechanized brigade utilized upgraded T-72s originally intended to fight in big cities such as Hefei; it was for this reason they were altered with huge amounts of inspiration from Syrian tank modifications.

Air support for Goetlander troops in Wuhu came from airfields south of Jiangning (Nanjing), as well as the air complements of Goetlander troops currently occupying Anhui. Once Basurian forces landed, they were subject to continued bombardments that aimed to force them to make a dash for urban or hilly areas where there was cover, and thus in tandem with Goetlander troops' fires units were redeployed with priority to these less open areas adjacent to Basurian forces' landing sites. At this point, rocket artillery began to fire on the landings, and a greater number of guns were thrown into the fray striking with priority on heavy equipment with penetration or high explosive munitions, while a small number of white phosphorus bombs were used for added anti-personnel effect once most heavier targets were eliminated. Priority was also placed on command and control infrastructure, to be struck at with independently Goetland-developed smart bombs along with GPS- or drone-guided shells to ensure the evaporation of any coherence of Basurian organization. An increased frequency of flight of fighter aircraft to ensure security against further Basurian attempts at air support would also be observed, coupled with the activation of more SAM units.

Ultimately however artillery use was comparatively modest and sparing, as considering the incompetence of such a Basurian force not a lot of effort was to be dispensed in their elimination and the main difficulty lay with dispatching the sheer number of Sichuan swine that had arrived to shit on Goetlander waters. Tank units based in Fanchang county raced out to deliver the Basurians merciful deaths, firing and advancing on the aggressors' units from multiple directions, making up for their inferior quality through well-coordinated support by artillery and infantry. In perfect coordination with the aircraft striking the airports, the SAM systems guarding the city would be dealt with. The DONG airforce's datalinks were efficient and functioning at all times, which would help to give them an edge over the enemy forces.
