AHSCA/ HOLY MARSH

“Yes, the Southerners love their displays of wealth.” Elizabeth spoke with just a hint of displeasure. As a socialist, she normally put her own politics behind her for duty, but every now and then her real personality leaked out. “It is beautiful I will admit. Of the southern castles, I think this one is only second to the Montana family.

It's a lot different here than on the islands. I'm sorry, I should explain. Mokan culture has a lot of diversity, much like your five islands Duchess. Southerners here love their traditions and castles affluence is social status in the south. Islanders like myself and Marcella's family tend to be more community minded and live for the sea. Probably why we love visiting AHSCA so much. Mejicans seem to have a million subcultures, as they are a mixing pot between Morridane, Native, Mokan, and western influences.”

Behind Elizabeth, she heard a voice.. "You look radiant tonight, Elizabeth."

“Oh, hello Raji.” Receiving compliments in public still felt a little embarrassing, as did being public about a relationship, but it still warmed her heart. “Duchess Marcella Villa, Empress Eylstadt, please meet my partner, Raji Suraksha-Frenshaw.

FECAW

Arianna, free from her dance, moved among the crowd, she had people to meet and contacts to establish. Just because it was her wedding didn't mean she was off the clock, not yet. Patrolling the sea of influence, she would hunt for new openings, and sometimes, those openings came to her.

“Good evening Ms. Lomengo. How are you now, after your wedding? I don't believe that I know that much about Mokastana."

Elizabeth turned and smiled to the speaker, it took her a second, but she eventually remembered the name, Alily Loyn of Fecaw.

“Thank you for coming! I am...it's a lot, excited, tired, thrilled, I don't know. Everything! I'm just glad my husband knows how to dance. I'm happy so many people made it! How are you? Are you enjoying yourself?

Oh, Mokastana is beautiful, I can't wait to move back. Beautiful beaches, beautiful people, fields of life saving plants grow all across the South. Our pharmaceutical exports are how we built this castle, it's not much but we make it home. You should really come here for a vacation, I can tell you all about us, but it's nothing compared to experiencing Mokastana yourself.”

Quick overview about Mokastana
Mokastana is a mostly modern place. Despite its strong industrial base, many in rural areas still travel by horseback. Many don't learn to drive a car until conscription. Despite its socialist policies making healthcare and education affordable, there is still a significant rich-poor divide. In the South, many multi millionaires economically rule over communities like lords of old. Most invest into local infrastructure to show off their wealth, but a few leave their towns with dirt roads, giving an old west feel to modern communities.

Tourist areas are often the most developed, ensuring modern amenities to visitors who wish to see Mokan beaches, or take advantage of the loose laws regarding vices, such as drugs and prostitution.

Military influence is everywhere, but subtle. Secondary education allows for armored vehicle competitive sports to help future conscripts learn to drive early. Private miltias not only exist, but are actively encouraged by the Government. A bank may use a surplus APC to move funds because its cheaper than a new armored car.

Mokans tend to have olive or tan skin tones, but lighter skin tones are not uncommon. Over the last 20 to 30 years, intermixing between Federal Nations has resulted in many young adults being ethnically ambiguous.

Government

Mokastana is actually the collective name for five political entities, or nations, listed below. These five nations, plus four external ones, make up the People's Unified Federation, a confederation style government. The wedding is taking place in the Republic of El Sur del Gran Mokastana, the largest and richest nation in Mokastana. Often called El Sur, Suria, or The South, for short.

Nations of Mokastana:
The Islands
Moxhuactl
Aztlán
Tatom
El Sur del Gran Mokastana

Mokan history overview

(Estimating current year around 2030)
Modern Mokan history starts with its native culture being conquered by both western and eastern groups, with the largest conquest being a Ghantish Trade Company. Many northern natives were colonized willingly and became modern Mokans, while southern natives resisted and were mostly wiped out in a series of conquistador wars. Only the Aztlán Empire successfully resisted colonization, remaining independent until 1916, when they were finally assimilated into the Mejican Empire.

After westernization, Mokastana unified and rebelled in the 1840s, earning their freedom but they soon collapsed into independent states. A King rose up in the South and tried to conquer all of Mokastana, but failed.

Although often allied and friendly throughout the years, the Mokan states failed to unify until after The Political Wars, a period from the 1970s to 1990s marked with civil strife, revolutions and rebellions across Mokastana. As foreign involvement increased in these conflicts, the leaders of Mokastana realized they had to either unify once and for all, or they would become colonies once more. The Mokan Confederacy was born to ensure Mokan independence.

In 2003 a civil conflict destroyed public confidence in the Confederacy and the People's Unified Federation was established. An major economic boom shortly after the PUF was formed pushed the second world nation into the modern era, rapidly increasing the value of the Gold Labor, and giving the new government the public trust it needed to remain in power. Overnight, Mokastana turned from a backwater nation into a regional influence.

Lomengo family history, abridged.

Arianna Lomengo is a member of House Lomengo, one of the original Ghantish families to colonize Mokastana. Their port became a wealthy town and their family were key supporters of independence, building the majority of the rebel fleet. They were a founding supporter of King Castille in his attempt to take over Mokastana in the 1860s. After the communist revolution of 1914, the Lomengo family fled to Themis, until they returned in the 1970s to aid counter communist rebels.

Since then they have been influential in the Mokan drug trade, eventually joining with the Montana family to turn the drug trade into a pharmaceutical empire spanning the world. Family worth is estimated to be between 600 and 900 billion Universal Standard Dollars, mostly due to their financial investments across Greater Dienstad.

Eitoan wrote:As per Eitoan custom, Brett gave Cory a short, firm handshake. Continuing on, he informed him "We're in the northwest, on the big continent. Most of us don't get off continent much, and when we do it's usually to the Timocratic Republic or the Golden Throne. But this one, she's got quite a lot of business throughout Greater Dienstad. Sometimes foreigners confuse us with our neighboring republics, Aurensia, Relica - that's all right. We're pretty similar, except that we became independent of Ralkovia in 1901. I'm in investments, the wife is an attorney, and we hail from Kelso, our biggest city and the financial hub. This is a splendid wedding, although we're a little unfamiliar with the ceremony. But altogether colorful and wonderful. The bride's family is so happy."

Lori chimed in "Have you met Lady Guadelupe? You must pay your respects to her, the Grand Dame of House Lomengo."

Brett added "I can't say as I've much familiarity with Fecaw. Where is it, if you'll pardon my question. And have you spoken to Fedor, or King James? If you have, what are your impressions, again, if I may ask?"

"Fecaw is outside of Dienstad, in fact quite a way a way. It is an archipelago of several dozen islands that is home to around 12 million people." began Cory, "Fecaw is quite ignorant of Dienstad. Most of its tourism goes to other nations such as Yohannes or Xencovia. I am sure that this is one of the most beautiful weddings that I have been to for a while." He turned round to see Lori and Brett, a bit surprised by they addition to the conversation. "I believe my wife has gone to see Lady Guadalupe. I have spoken to Fedor. He seems like a rather amiable man, with a good sense of the values of his country.

"I think that we should come back here with the whole family to see more of Mokastana. I can't say that many Fecawns know much of Dienstad, yet alone your nation.

How do you feel was always an interesting question. Although it was true, Arianna couldn't say relieved, or secure, because those feelings were reserved for post victory celebrations, a wedding was a good start, children would be her security. But there were friends, then there were allies. As such, Arianna smiled with the practice skill of decades of half truths.

"I feel happy, excited. I'm not sure what happens now!" The excitement slipped through as her voice climbed up octaves every word. " you and your family have to come visit Mokastana properly. A wedding is nice, but I'm talking VIP suite, airship cruise. From the Burgundy Mountains, to the skyline of Mokastana City, every view is more breathtaking at 500 meters in the air. Plus childcare so you and your husband can enjoy some time alone. We Lomengos take care of our friends, please, contact my secretary when you want to set up a trip, will get you everything you need."

"Well, I'm sure we could make arrangements for a visit later this summer. Mokastana is definitely a beautiful nation. On the other hand, a state visit from our government might be on the horizon." Alily was musing, not enganging in seriou politics, but she found that politics encroached on the rest of her life. She smiled a little more as she thought of a quiet holiday with her family.
