A Capital Meeting (The New Earth Only)

Postby The United Continent of North America » Fri Feb 22, 2019 6:14 pm

The White House, Capital District

A cold grey sky hung over the Capital District when the day for official talks between the North American and Gibetan leaders finally arrived. While a light snow fell upon the already buried grounds surrounding the White House, the residence and office of the Prime Minister, it was a far cry from the weather that many feared would cause a delay or even cancel the events due to take place. To the contrary, the previous two days proceeding the Kaiserin's arrival have been relatively clear and calm. With this the ceremonies surrounding the visit were able be carried out mostly unmolested. While protesters could be found nearly everywhere the Kaiserin went to demonstrate their discontent with Gibet’s actions in the low countries, the public and especially the Deutschamerikaners generally welcomed the Gibetan leadership warmly.

However, just as many Americans predicted, there is more to Kaiserin’s presence in the capital besides His Majesty reciprocating the hospitality Gibet granted him during his visit to Europe several months ago. The situation in North Africa is quickly spiraling out of control, intelligence reports have revealed that Britain is on the verge of upheaval, and the United African Front is disintegrating into chaos. Though few doubt that North America will seek to exploit these developments to the maximum in an effort to push back against recent fascist expansion and instability, the ramifications such actions could have on Toronto and Berlin's current partnership might potentially drive a wedge between the two increasingly diverging nations. Thus a face-to-face meeting between the leadership of the two nations has called for, to determine if a either a middle ground can be found or if the UCNA's goals are too at odds with those of Gibet's.

Prime Minister Tremblay waited at the north entrance to the White House, patiently waiting for the Kaiserin and the Gibetan motorcade to arrive as well as doing his best to ignore the hundreds of onlookers standing around the perimeter of the grounds. Though the good weather and general smoothness of recent two days of the Kaserin's presence in the capital have been seen as a good omen, the Prime Minister was still anxious nevertheless concerning the talks that were about to take place. A deterioration in American-Gibetan relations would be a massive blow internationally, possibly separating America from one of the few friendly nations left in Europe and perhaps creating to conditions to further destabilize the region. Him, and by extension congress, would want nothing more than to continue working with the Gibetans to continue the struggle against the nations of UFIN, however whether or not this is possible will have yet to be seen.
