A date that shall go down in history, though in infamy or glory has yet to be determined, for this is the date that the Eacusian War truly began.
Of course that is not entirely true. In fact, for most, the war began on December 25, 2083, on the Christmas Day Attack up and down the continent that broke the tension between the countries of the Gulf of Matadi. For on that day the war with the state of Gwaga, that had declared its independence from Rogoda had begun. Then had come the Dattan Revolution, the invasion of Raigoranka, and then the declarations of war. But one is getting ahead of one’s self. To understand the Eacusian War, one must start from the beginning.
Background
Our story begins in Rogoda. On April 22, 2082 the Rogeno Presidental Election results came in, revealing the re-election of seating President Chentegai Majange-Vera against Senator Shungu Chikawerva. At the time, no one knew the great significance that this election would have. Majange-Vera had won the majority of Rogene voters, save for in Chikawerva’s home region of Gwaga, in northern Rogoda. Here Chikawerva had won overwhelmingly. These results of the election only served to expose the great divide between Gwaga, which held the lion share of Rogoda’s natural wealth, located furthest from the capital city of Rogoda and in the weeks, and then months following the election there began an ever growing call for independence.
Finally on January 1, 2083 Gwaga declared its Independence from Rogoda. Whilst conflict did not begin immediately, within the following weeks skirmishes and border side attacks between the Gwagans and Rogeno began to see casualties rise. On July 30, 2083 the Gwagan paramilitary group, the Kyauta Sojojin was formed under the leadership of Mustafa Jokonya and began combatting Rogeno authorities and civilians in the disputed areas. This gain international attention as they were found using OGS-34’s, a Dutch produced weapon, revealing to many that the government on Amsterdam was behind the insurgency. The next nail came on December 10, 2083 with the Magajin Street Bombing, when a Rogene anarchist threw a bomb at President Chikawerva and the visiting King of Espana. The bomb was tangled with the city’s tram wires and missed the state leaders, falling instead into the crowd. The would be assassin fled, but was capture in a raid in the border village of Kabiji, and in the night, shots broke out and suddenly a massacre took place on Christmas Eve. Within hours the Kyauta Sojojin were occupying the province of Agestina. Here hundreds were killed and thousands injured. Soon afterwards it was revealed that Clem Nano, the Dutch Foreign Affairs Minister had been in contact with the Gwagan government to make war on Rogoda with the infamous Nano Telegram. Then came the continent wide Christmas Day Attack in which over 150,000 people were killed and over 120,000 injured.
The next day, Rogoda with support from Aogau invaded Gwaga. As war raged in Gwaga, the rest of the continent recovered from the devastating attack. Then, on May 4, 2084 the Dattan Confederacy under Ravi Bandyopadhyay declares its independence from the Dutch-Empire, sparking yet another conflict. In the weeks following the President of Visayanes spoke out against the war in Gwaga and Aogaian naval forces began to place an embargo on Visayanes, moving its naval warships off of its coast. In Gali, the capital city of Gwaga, a siege began on June 7, 2084. Meanwhile in Dattan, on September 16, 2084 the Duke of Alençon with 1,000 volunteers invaded the island of Raigoranka with the goal of liberating the Dattan’s, leading a successful campaign in the following weeks.
Fighting continued in pockets across the continent, as tensions continued to rise. On February 23, 2085 the Duke of Alençon and 7,000 volunteer soldiers invaded the mainland, taking the fight directly to the Dutch controlled Datta. Finally came the time for war, and the next day, the leaders of Aogau, Ondas and Rogoda came together with the Treaty of Masefau, forming the Anti-Dutch League, designed to protect the region around the Gulf of Matadi against imperialistic Dutch interests, declaring war on the Dutch Empire. This was followed on February 27 with the formation of the Ternary Alliance; the Dutch Empire, Gwaga and Visayanes in declaring war.
