Fineberg, New Edom, Near the Chuckian Embassy

As the two APCs trained their weapons upon the three squads of Embassy Guards, the guards immediately stopped and the commanding officer stepped forwards. Taking off his helmet he addressed the New Edomite soldiers,

"I am Sgt. Grant Stevens of the Chuckian Embassy Guard. We were ordered to assist the occupants of this vehicle by Ambassador Parker since they are members of our embassy staff and citizens of our nation who were being attacked by rioters. We are all currently unarmed aside from our riot shields. How would you like us to proceed?"

While he stood in the streets, Joan quickly pulled out a pad of paper and started writing what was happening. Quinn would most definitely eat this up. While she wrote, Madison opened her phone and took a grainy picture of the standoff in the streets.

Betharan Palace,
Fineberg, New Edom

“....SACTO ENHANCED FORWARD PRESENCE FORCE - NEW EDOM…” General Unwerth read the description and then looked at the rest of the Ministers. “Is this wise?”

“In light of the recent message from the Shrailleeni and this…” Laler grimaced, “Public statement by the Adirans, absolutely. Yes.” He scowled. “Look...let’s see it…”

The television in the briefing room was turned on, and one of the aides fiddled until it properly showed the footage.

...Although several nations have been quick to support the claim that Homofront is responsible for the violence in Fineberg today, firsthand accounts from Adiran nationals on embassy row and the embassy itself suggest events may not be so cut and dry. Footage taken prior to the outbreak of violence shows an entirely peaceful gathering, even after the arrival of conservative counter-protestors. Speakers at the event professed their devotion to Christianity and advocated incremental reforms within New Edom’s established legal framework rather than violent revolutionary change. The video evidence our government has reviewed suggests the only laws which were flouted at the outset of the march appear to be the very statutes which the demonstrators seek to change. Asylum seekers maintain that the demonstrators did not strike first.

Our government designated Homofront as a terrorist organization after its hijacking of the MV Cora Nevis in Arcologia, which led to the tragic deaths of a number of Adiran sailors. Federal and state law enforcement have uncovered and foiled additional plots on Adiran soil with the cooperation of our own LGBT community. Our government even shares limited intelligence with foreign governments, including New Edom, on Homofront activities.

With all of that in mind, the Adiran intelligence community has yet to uncover evidence of radicalism within this demonstration. If the march was planned as some sort of attack, then it is inconsistent with all of Homofront’s known methods, which generally involve targeted assassination and mass murder. There is no evidence of radical rhetoric being espoused in the march itself, nor do we know that radicals played any role in planning the march.

The Republic takes the threat posed by Homofront to its citizens seriously, and we also know that panic in the face of this threat will only strengthen this terror group. Panic and disproportionate responses only bolster the group’s recruitment and offer concealment to its agents. Panic also inevitably leads to the persecution and oppression of innocent people. With both this philosophy and the available evidence in mind, this government therefore believes a reasoned investigation is the proper response to the events in Fineberg.

Although it may provide no relief to the grieving, it is our sincerest hope that the violence today was the result of a miscommunication or error rather than malice on any part. That Homofront might command enough influence to mobilize thousands or that Fineberg law enforcement deliberately used lethal force against peaceful protestors would be equally troubling revelations. The State Department intends to launch inquiries through our embassy while the President may propose the formation of a select committee if necessary....

“God damn it!” shouted Lalery, starting to wad up pieces of paper from the table and hurl them at Bailey’s image on the screen. “Stupid fucking leftist whore! And what, she’s spying on us, she’s openly saying so? Fuck her! Tell this new fellow...this new ambassador...he’d better have a damned good explanation! Fuck! Fuck! FUCK!”

“It is outrageous. The Shrailleeni message only slightly less so, but much more insulting in its way.” said Unwerth grimly. “They overstep their bounds as allies. When they had their own rebellion, we offered our assistance. When this disturbance began…” Unwerth shrugged. “We should accept the SACTO offer. It cannot hurt to do so.”

Lalery turned off the television. “I can’t stand the sound of that dried up old cunt’s voice. After all we’ve done to try to build peace, then they do this. Alright.” He snapped his fingers at Geta. “Communicate to the Adiran ambassador that we want clarification on what the Secretary meant, and confirm with SACTO through Nimrod: the answer is yes. The details. We’ll get the details. Is it over?” he turned and glared as Peter Misabel walked into to the room.

“Just about, Your Excellencies,” said Misabel with a bow. The last of the mob are being swept up. We should have our pick of the bag to question soon.”

Geta meanwhile had picked up the phone and had called the Nifonese Ambassador. “Your Excellency, how do you do? Things are as well as can be expected here, but with God’s help, order is being restored. We would like to get things rolling on the issue of forming the task force your government has recommended. Ambassador Nimrod will be in touch with further details and discussion of actual movement, billeting and coordination.” He made a similar call to Clyde Hullar, the McNernian Ambassador, but advised that no further public communication ought to take place. It was recommended that SACTO ambassadors ought to meet with the New Edomite Ministers of Justice and Defense to discuss the particulars.

“There is one thing,” said Misabel. “After Undersecretary Corbulo’s inquiry, I can confirm that a number of embassies have admitted large numbers, in the hundreds actually, of asylum seekers into their embassies. Some are apparently providing medical attention. I’m not sure what they’re up to exactly. And some group of foreigners are out on the streets fighting with them. Apparently Colonel Weber is dealing with that. And Count Falk has swept the area around Victory Square clean with his Cavalry Guards. But the embassies that acted as they did…”

“Let’s do nothing until we can get a full report. Some of the foreign ministries have stated that they were granting asylum. Let’s wait until the streets are clear and then make a full inquiry,” suggested Count Sharra. He had been finishing a note and handed it to the Justice Minister, who nodded before it was handed to Misabel. Misabel bowed and walked out the door.

“Where’s the King?” Lalery said in the quiet that followed the Deputy Minister of Justice’s departure.

“On his way,” replied Sharra.

“And Nicanor?” Lalery asked.

“Meeting with a foreign ambassador about the riot,” said Sharra. “Apparently sitting up and everything.”

Lalery sat down and poured himself a scotch. “Fucking hell,” he said wearily. “Is there any good news?”

“Cotta,” said Sharra, referring to the young Minister of Culture, “Is back in the King’s good graces and is traveling with him. He reported on these from social media, and the King was very pleased. Look at them…” he turned his tablet towards the others in the room.

ADM. SHIBA TAKEI (RET) (@seiran1611)
Just now from

I need to express my views on the issue of recent Edomite crisis because I don't think that people understand where we are heading.

This is no longer about gay rights. It is about to become a war of civilizations. The modern day globalization had washed aside traditional cultures, leaving only two civilizations remaining. Civilization, is, after all a method of organization of the entire society. The key factor by which we distinguish them, is how they approach to relation between the individual and the absolute.

The first civilization - I will call it "monistic" - believes that absolute and the self are the same. This civilization believes that self is the absolute, and has the right to create it's own reality. Thus, an individual must be everything, including having a right to become whatever he wishes to become - no matter the form it will take. Gender change, sexual orientation change - whatever one wants.

The second one - I will call it dualistic - believes that the individual and self are different. It's goal is thus discovering the absolute and relating one's self to it, including placing massive restrictions on the individual to live according to absolute's wish.

"Monistic" civilization is represented by Guadalupador, Almurta, Thermodolia, Ru-, and all those minpon nations that we see around. Dualistic civilization is Nifon, Riysa, New Edom or Carloso. Take a look how both of them have some kind of post-modern elements - like Nifon eagerly drawing from cultural legacy of the west, or Nifonese anime invading Carloso or New Edom.

Sadly, there is zero place for mutual understanding between those societies, because their entire worldviews set them apart. A Dorian will have no understanding why the Nifonese will loathe gays with unyielding passion; and likewise, a Nifonese will see a Dorian attempt to intervene on behalf of what Dorians see as a fundamental human right as an act of cultural imperialism (after all, he will see the gay as a criminal worthy of a punishment). There is literally no common point, and as such, I predict that there will be no diplomatic solution to the crisis in New Edom. Those who hope for it have forgotten how Edomite people few months ago organized gay pogroms due after Homofront assassinated one of key Edomite Army generals. The very moment when a foreign power tries to use it's influence on behalf of gays, it will wake the sleeping giant of religious fanaticism.

At that point, both sides will start seeing each other as existential threats. The network of alliances, in which New Edom had encased itself, will be fully activated, and on the other hand, the pro-LGBT nations will start forming theirs. Then all we are going to need is one spark, and those alliances are going to leash at each other's throats, each believing that it's fighting a holy war, either for right of the individual to change his/hers gender, or for belief that there are only two genders.

And its going to be a total war till one of the sides had bled out dry.

I hope I am wrong....

Sharra waited until they had read. He then said, “Prince Enoch informed me that hte King had organized a massive hunt, hundreds strong, to bring down the beast of Bara, whatever it is. Some sort of mammalian carnivore, though of course many locals believe it is a forest devil of some kind. Is it? Time will tell. But definitely the King was the man to do it. And dragging him from this hunt, to restore the peace and confidence of the country people does not please him. He has left it in the charge of Count Merodach, but he is being advised by some professional hunter from Chaco. Once the King has arrived back at Shiloam he will then proceed to Fineberg. In the meantime we are to handle the situation as best we are able.”

The succinct reponse and courtesy seemed to at least keep the situation from becoming ug;oer. but the soldiers didnt' stand down, they remained wary and some were looking around at different stations of the clock, as it were, watching the other streets and rooftops

"Lieutenant Lucas Fabian, Royal Cavalry Guards," replied a young officer. "Who are these citizens, and why were they in such a damned rush? It's crazy trying to drive around in this mess. They should have laid low. I'm going to have to write up a report about this, it is most incorrect."

Down the street, scattered injured or confused citizens were being rounded up by militia and soldiers. Lieutenant Fabian noticed the writing and frowned. "You had better identify yourselves. What was so important that you had to rush in here in spite of the crowds? You cold have been injured! What did you think you were up to, hm?"

Office of the Shogun of the Japanese Empire, The Imperial Palace, Kyoto, Mainland Japan, The Empire of Japanese Pacific States

"It's clear that there is indeed trouble ahead. With SACTO and it's forces all backing up New Edom, someone is bound to do something, quite stupid." Shogun Koubuin said, looking over a tablet in her right hand, signing off on a requisition form for the 8th Fleet in San Francisco where the IJN Yamato was currently in port at receiving weapons from a new classified project from the IJA's special sciences divisions. Setting the tablet down she looked across her desk to the pale, black clad figure of General Kitagou Ayaka sitting to the right hand of the desk while Marshal Admiral Ito Genda sat on the left in the black winter IJN uniform. "It won't be any of our men, your majesty. I assure you. I would kill them myself." General Ayaka said with a smile developing on her face. The General was known as the Shogun's attack dog for a reason, she was a woman who held bloodshed in the second highest regard when it came to her job, the first being her obsessive loyalty to the Shogun, whether that was willing or just drilled into her head as a young child this was virtually unknown.

"I'm aware, however that is why I'm speaking to both of you. I know since the 30s, the Army and the Navy are on... Icy to say the least terms with each other, even so, I would hope should Japan be forced into a war, you will do what is best for the Empire and the Co-Prosperity Sphere as a whole. We did not take the whole of the Pacific and Asia from the Americans and the Western powers to only end up losing it some 74 years later. And I will not, I repeat. I will not allow the memory of Shogun Kujou to be besmirched by allowing us to fail in a war against those who are spiritually, militarily, and culturally inferior to us!" Shogun Koubuin said aloud to both General Ayaka and Marshal Admiral Genda. Marshal Admiral Genda let out a sigh before speaking.

"I assure you, your majesty. Should the situation blow up, and Amaterasu, and Hachiman willing, it won't. The navy shall be ready to deploy in force against whatever force would pull us into a war. However as I have said, the gods above favour us and have since our victory against the Americans. They may toss tests to us, to put our faith, our strength and might to the test against foes greater than us. But in the end, we will succeed." Marshal Admiral Genda said, General Ayaka rolled her eyes. "As soon as you figure out how to roll a battleship on land, then you may give assurances. In this case, the Army can guarantee that nobody, not the filthy yankees, not anyone from this Homofront terror organisation, or any outside power will break us... Though in this case, should the situation blow up, it would be quite savoury to me, to see what comes of the worms that do challenge us." General Ayaka said as her smile turned into a smirk.

"Silence. Both of you. ....It matters not as we shall be backing New Edom and SACTO regardless. Through hell or high water as the Americans say.... Regardless, the LGBT issue in New Edom is the least of my concern. My main concern is with the Western North American territories, the Americans are getting restless again, the resistance movements are starting to rile the local subjects up, sadly. So General Ayaka. You will have to go to San Francisco, quell the resistance once again. And this time. Wipe them out. All of them. In other unrelated to the North America issue, I shall be sending a message to be personally hand delivered by one of our Kempeitai couriers to the New Edomite government. To allow them to know that they may count on the military might of the Japanese Empire and the Co-Prosperity Sphere should they desire it." Shogun Koubuin said before General Ayaka interrupted.

"So I suppose that's a sign you want me to burn down whatever roach motels are in San Francisco with all the little roached in them so I can command our forces should we be needed?" General Ayaka asked rather... Enthusiastically while Marshal Admiral Genda shook his head. "Yes. I will be needing you in the field to command our forces should they be needed. And one of the Nishimura twins will be leading the navy. Or Admiral Nagumo." Shogun Koubuin said before Marshal Admiral Genda stood up and brushed off the top of his cap, proceeding to then hold it under his right arm and bow his head to the Shogun. "I shall then make the preparations for the navy. I trust, the attack dog has someone to work out such plans for the army, for her?" Marshal Admiral Genda looked to General Ayaka who stood up and bowed her head to the Shogun before turning to Marshal Admiral Genda with a plainly fake smile on her face to hide her... Frustration with the navy officer before her.

"Of course." General Ayaka said before turning back to the Shogun, bowing her head once again then backing out of the office, only turning her back after leaving the office. Admiral Genda left the office with a smile on his face, meanwhile Shogun Koubuin could only sigh after the two officers left. "Those two are going to be the death of me." Yuuhi said as the shogun's personal secretary, Non-Nobility Member of the IJRG, Shirogane Takeru came in. "Your highness?" Takeru asked with an eyebrow raised. "Don't worry about it, it's just the Army and the Navy with their usual quarrels." Yuuhi said with a roll of her eyes before she turned to her computer, typing out a personal message, then after ten minutes she printed it out, signed it and stamped it with the official seal of the Shogun, then the seal of House Koubuin of the Regency council then putting it inside a manilla envelope.

"This is to be sent out to the embassy, priority level 1. After it reaches the embassy, have them send a Kempei out to meet the New Edomite government." Yuuhi said, sliding the envelope across the desk. Takeru took the envelope and bowed his head to the Shogun. "Yes, your majesty." He said as he followed the same procedure General Ayaka had, backing out of the office only to turn his back after leaving the room.

Official Message of the Enlightened Matriarchy of the Shrailleeni Empire

Image

To the honorable Tokugawa Asuka, Minister of External Affairs of the Empire of Greater Nifon,

Greetings to you in the name of Her Enlightened Majesty the Mother Empress Chella Resyanna fe Shrailleen, who offers warm greetings also to His Excellency the Honorable Shogun Maki Kojiro.

We are glad to hear that the Honorable Shogun has reached a conclusion similar to that of Her Enlightened Majesty. It does appear as if our honorable New Edomite allies may have engaged in a strategic error in dealing with the protests, utilizing lethal force far beyond what was necessary to pacify the crowd and resulting in many unnecessary deaths. This sort of error is rare, though obviously not impossible. I wish to be clear that the security and peace of New Edom are the absolute highest priority of the Enlightened Matriarchy in this matter, and in that regard the assistance of Greater Nifon is both welcome and appreciated.

We must respect that your culture honors at times vastly different cultural values than our own, particularly when it comes to the issue of the "LGBT." In fact I believe that we share many values in common, these being a strong sense of honor, a respect for the traditions of our respective people, and the importance of faith in all aspects of life. We each see the dangers represented by Marxist Communism and its disruptive and faithless ways. You must understand that just as your own traditions abhor those known as "LGBT," so those who are born with different inclinations have always been a part of our culture and religion. Although they represent a minority of our people, that minority is honored and respect as living their lives as the Goddess made them, and fulfilling important social functions.

No attempt to make war upon our honorable New Edomite allies will be tolerated by the Enlightened Matriarchy. Each time a foreign force has attempted to subdue New Edom by the blade, the Enlightened Matriarchy has stood against them. We have been a part of New Edom's fight for survival on more than one occasion, as they have stood beside us against the forces of patriarchy and ignorance. Under no circumstances would Her Enlightened Majesty allow cultural differences between friends to jeopardize our alliance. Her Enlightened Majesty offers her sincerest thanks to yourself and to the Honorable Shogun for Greater Nifon's offer military communication and cooperation, and adds that should the worse occur, that the Empire of New Edom is attacked by foreign powers, our two nations would find ourselves immediate allies in its defense.

This is precisely why this issue of the "LGBT" in New Edom is of concern to Her Enlightened Majesty. Intolerance toward those following their freedom of choice under the Enlightened Path has brought chaos, disruption, and violence to our honorable allies and our region more than once, as you yourself have pointed out. It is true that the ways of Greater Nifon are your own, but is it not so that a result of your wanton slaughter of the "LGBT" has directly resulted in the unfortunate rise of such evils as the terrorist organization Homofront? And now the policies of our honorable New Edomite allies have yet again brought trouble and uncertainty into the peace of the region, and it is at this point that the Enlightened Matriarchy sees the policies of another impacting our own security.

And so let me be clear that the Enlightened Matriarchy rejects the use of aggression categorically, and will stand with its honorable New Edomite allies against the forces of aggression without hesitation. But it is the opinion of the Shrailleeni people and of Her Enlightened Majesty that the current state of affairs regarding the "LGBT" in New Edom must change in the name of regional security. Therefore we thank yourself and the Honorable Shogun for your actions in maintaining the peace and integrity of our mutual allies, but we will continue to pursue diplomatic negotiations on this issue in a peaceful and respectful manner.

May the Light of the Mother smile down upon the people of Greater Nifon,

Foreign Minister Zattem Resbruck,
On behalf of the National Imperial Shrailleeni Assembly, and,
On behalf of Her Enlightened Majesty the Mother Empress Chella Resyanna fe Shrailleen

Official Message of the Enlightened Matriarchy of the Shrailleeni Empire

To the honorable Foreign Minister Hosidius Geta,

Greetings to you in the name of Her Enlightened Majesty the Mother Empress Chella Resyanna fe Shrailleen. Her Enlightened Majesty extends her greetings to His Honorable Majesty King-Emperor Elijah IV and to Her Honorable Majesty Queen-Empress Mara I. It is her hope to find them and their family well of health and safe during these troubling events.

As I have stated before, we are glad that the worst of the violence appears to have subsided and that the security forces of New Edom are succeeding in restoring order to the capital. We are also glad that, despite negative remarks from certain foreign nations, no foreigners have yet made the dishonorable and rash decision to declare a state of war upon New Edom over this singular incident. Should this occur, Her Enlightened Majesty wishes to convey her assurance that the Enlightened Matriarchy would instantly condemn such action and respond in kind. Whatever our cultural differences, our alliance and friendship shall always stand first and foremost against the forces of aggression and chaos. The Enlightened Matriarchy has also been in communication with Greater Nifon, and we have agreed to a certain amount of communication and cooperation in stranding united as mutual allies of New Edom in this matter.

Peace and security is of the highest concern to Her Enlightened Majesty in this affair. This is why we have taken the rumors of Homofront's involvement in this incident with the utmost seriousness. We naturally wish to cooperate in our investigations and to share what intelligence we have with your own government. Even if Homofront is not behind this attack, it is the opinion of the Enlightened Matriarchy that we must still be vigilant. Such dishonorable and evil people would certainly attempt to exploit any chaos or weakness, and they must not be permitted to do so.

It is therefore that my government has been greatly relieved to receive your statement on this matter, that it does not currently appear that the incident was instigated by Homofront activity. This corresponds with out own intelligence regarding the situation. We must remain vigilant of course, as I have said. And this is not to make light of what is in any case a profound tragedy for the New Edomite people. When the Enlightened Matriarchy experienced such troubles in 2015, the Empire of New Edom assisted us greatly in restoring order and minimizing loss of life. We have not forgotten, and we would like to respond in kind for your nation now.

It is therefore in the spirit of our long friendship that Her Enlightened Majesty the details of the dialogue that was suggested in our recent public statement. Despite our differences, our two nations have long been honorable allies. Working together we have brought peace and stability to much of the region, and we have aided each other in developing our states and providing for our people. Our shared values have far outweighed our differing ones in almost all cases, and where tensions have historically arisen we have always succeeded in reaching peaceful and productive dialogue. We do not agree with New Edom's attitude toward the "LGBT" people, but we know that despite this attitude you government has always epitomized the Christian virtues of compassion and tolerance. Where other nations have used only violence, New Edom has allowed these people the freedom to leave if they so choose, and followed a policy which, to borrow the Christian expression, "loves the sinner."

However, the events which are ongoing have demonstrated that the measures currently taken by your government are perhaps insufficient. The Enlightened Matriarchy respects New Edomite sovereignty, but this issue of the "LGBT" has time and again brought instability and unwanted foreign incursions into our region. When foolish and dishonorable nations go so far as to declare war over this issue, Shrailleeni lives are called into danger to defend this policy which we do not in our hearts agree with. Furthermore, it would appear that the recent protest, as unwise and uncoordinated as it may have been, was conducted on grounds not of foreign opinion but of the same honorable Christian values that I have above so praised. Therefore I hope that Their Honorable Majesties and yourself will understand that Her Enlightened Majesty offers the following suggestion from a place of sincere love and respect, and from a wish to ensure the security of our New Edomite allies and of our region.

The suggestion of our government is simple. We offer that your government should consider what we understand to be the basic grievance voiced by the protestors, that people of the "LGBT" category should at the very least be allowed to exist without threat of abduction and incarceration or the penalty of forced removal. That the free expression of opinions, so long as it is conducted in a law-abiding manner, should be respected and tolerated regardless of the nature of those opinions. Indeed the embrace of these very values has greatly enhanced the peace and stability of the Enlightened Matriarchy. It is our belief that these policies would greatly reduce the likelihood of such a tragedy occurring again the future, and would further promote even closer ties between the Enlightened Matriarchy and New Edom.

May the Light of the Mother smile down upon the people of the Empire of New Edom, and upon His Honorable Majesty King-Emperor Elijah IV and Her Honorable Majesty Queen-Empress Mara I,

Foreign Minister Zattem Resbruck,
On behalf of the National Imperial Shrailleeni Assembly, and,
On behalf of Her Enlightened Majesty the Mother Empress Chella Resyanna fe Shrailleen

Mediaman Embassy

The militia were dressed in heavy padded jackets and carried large batons which they showed no reluctance to use on anyone who was judged to be getting in the way. Gregor could see there was going to be trouble, so he and Sam moved with the crowd heading for the embassy in the hope that they'd escape unscathed. They were both local human rights and free speech activists and hoped that identifying themselves as university students might count for something.

This time, however, they weren't so lucky.

"Not so fast jungle boy," said a shaven-headed militiaman wielding a baton and with the visor of his riot uniform tilted upwards, stepping in Sam’s way (Sam was a Dengali). "You can't just break the law and walk free as birds."

Gregor was determined not to be caught so easily. "What's the fine, officer?" she said and ostentatiously opened his bag to pull out his wallet.

The militiaman hesitated for a moment and then looked around him. There was a general air of chaos. The protestors were funnelling towards the street exits where the militia were both directing them and picking them off as they went. Gregor couldn't help noticing that the majority of those taken to one side for interrogation were wearing slogans or clothes that blatantly marked them as pro-LGBT; clergy or people who looked more wealthy were often being let go.

“Schoolboys, eh? You have some reason for visiting this embassy?” said the militiaman.

Staff Sergeant Hill, noticing the commotion with militiamen and two strangers, turned back towards Lance Corporal Dawkins, “Keep them coming, make sure it doesn’t turn into trampling.”

“Aye Staff Sa’rnt.”

Hill turned toward two other marines, “Jones, Smith, on me. Fix bayonets if you havn’t already.”

“Aye Staff Sa’rnt!” Both marines replied back. The three men rushed up toward the friont gate, Hill gestured two more marines near the perimeter trying to control traffic to group up with them.

“Oi!” The Staff Sergant yelled, at a volume he hadn’t used since he was a drill instructor. “Wot’s up with the lot!? Are they givn’ ya problems!? We can take ‘em off your hands for ya!”

An emergency session of parliament was immediately set up the moment news came from the diplomatic mission in New Edom. It took a while, but soon, all the representatives from each province arrived at the National Assembly. Outside and all over Mediama, Gay rights activist groups quickly organized grassroots protests in the streets, The constabulary quickly reigning in order, but with some struggle. Murmurs were heard as press teams set up their cameras, and as representatives went over facts as written in their briefings. Soon, Prime Minister Margery Thompson walked up the podium. The room fell silent.

Image

“Mister speaker, members of parliament. In the afternoon, a protest was organized in New Edom to proliferate the call to establish rights for Lesbian and Gay citizens of their nation. That protest has ended in bloodshed. Mediaman citizens are among those wounded.”

Outrage range out in the National Assembly, before the speaker of the house banged on his gavel to silence the room.

“As we speak, our diplomatic mission in New Edom has begun to take in not only wounded Mediamen, but New Edom refugees, fleeing from this rapidly violent response. So far not all Mediaman tourists have been accounted for, but what news we can receive from them is horrific. Naked protestors were fired upon, not with rubber weapons, not with skin irritant or pepper spray or water canon. But with military grade ballistics and anti-tank rounds.”

A louder outrage rang out in the room, forcing the speaker of the house to bang his gavel harder to reign in order.

“Official government statements paint a picture that the government deployed troops and live military grade ammunition against these protestors due to suspicion that the protest was propped up by the Gay terrorist group, Homofront. However, as Adiran government officials have pointed out, testimony from survivors and from media personnel of their respective news agencies there have reported otherwise, that the military struck first, with no warrant other then the very law of exisistance that these protestors have So unjustly broken simply by being born. Reports confirm that the demonstration was as overall peaceful, even with the addition of counter protestors.

Mister speaker, based on our overall reactions thus far, and what has been previously discussed, our general sentiment is thus,

The United Kingdom of Mediama cannot accept the actions that New Edom has taken against their people. Though they have proven to be a valuable region, we cannot sacrifice morals for profit. I request that we redeploy a naval task force, headed up by HMS Artemis, to launch a rescue effort to evacuate our diplomatic mission should the situation deteriorate further. For the time being, that naval task force will remain neutral.”

A large audible amount of ‘Here here’ statements rang out.

“Furthermore while we will continue to keep diplomatic channels open we do not have the confidence that there will be peaceful resolution. New Edom and a majority of her allies have shown in their recent actions to be bellicose, and have mimicked actions which appear to be an eve of purge and extermination. God willing, we hope this will not be the case.

We will continue to take in refugees, we will get our cintizenry to safety, and we will do what we can to end this situation peacefully. However, should New Edom continue in her efforts to commit genocide of her own people, I cannot promise further trade, and thus I recommend that we establish trade sanctions should the situation deteriorate further. Further actions will be discussed in further detail in our session, thank you.”

Meanwhile, at the queen’s residence, Her Majesty Queen Jessica Williams III goes in the air to give her own address.

“Ladies and Gentlemen of Mediama, At around noon, the members of New Edom’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community organized a demonstration near international embassies to encourage the advancement of rights which have not been made available to them.

That demonstration has led to bloodshed. Among them are those Mediamen left unaccounted for in the Capital of Fineburg.

While we are against the removal of a nation’s sovereignty, even if they share different opinions which we may not have, the acts that the New Edomite government were excessive, ruthless, and inhumane to the point where Medimen, liberal and conservative, have taken to the streets to voice their opinions. In addition, they have made attempts to cover up their faults by claiming the protest, which was nonviolent in nature, was organized by a radical terrorist group called Homofront.

While we have formed a strong stance against terrorism, since we, too have fallen victim to our own fair share, further evidence and teistimony argue otherwise.

Thus, we have no choice, but to condemn the actions thus far taken by the New Edomite government.

We will continue diplomatic efforts to diffuse the situation peacefully. However, should diplomacy fail, a naval task force, led by HMS Artemis, will make efforts to evacuate the embassy should no other access to transportation be available.

Further travel to New Edom has been suspended for the time being due to concerns of safety. We will keep updates on the situation of New Edom.

On behalf of the Mediaman Royal Government, we pray that everyone arrives home safely, and that further blood will not be shed.

Thank you, and god save Mediama.”

To whom it may concern,

We have great concern from intelligence we have gathered from our diplomatic mission in New Edom. Namely, the web of alliances New Edom has to protect it from scrutiny. We have doubt that the situation will dissolve peacefully, and ask to begin some sort of co-operation between our respective governments in response to SACTO should the situation further deteriorate.

Our diplomatic mission in New Edom will do whatever it can to peacefully resolve the situation and continue diplomatic channels. Our respective ambassador will be happy to collaborate with your respective ambassador should the situation again deteriorate.

Should you wish to further continue correspondence, please respond back, or send a delegation to our capital to arrange a meeting.

Respectfully,

Wade Davison

Sanction Talks Stall

New Statement from Edomite Foreign Minister Gives Senate Conservatives Pause

A new official statement from Edomite Foreign Minister Hosidius Geta, concerning the violent crackdown on LGBT demonstrators in Fineberg was released to the public, attempting to provide clarity on the earlier, defiant public address from Princess Jocasta. Mr. Geta announced that these previous, alarming statements did not, in fact, come from someone with the authority to speak officially on behalf of the government of New Edom, as had been originally reported by a number of other Ruvian News outlets and which had seemed to cause a renewed push in the Imperial Senate chamber to get a sanction resolution on the floor for a vote. Mr. Geta went on to thank members of the SACTO alliance and several other nations who have spoken out in defense of New Edom for their support. But his statement that it was the belief of their government that the protesters were simply civil rights demonstrators who came into conflict with the authorities due to the unanticipated large size of the crowds was a sharp contradiction to previous Nifonese assertions of a terrorist plot. He also stated New Edom's comitment to diplomatic talks proposed by the nation of Thermodolia and that they were advised by the Sharailleni government to launch an investigation into the incident, though he was vague on whether or not New Edom intended to follow that advice. Doing so has been seen by many conservatives in the senate see as a requirement to avoid sanctions.

The princess's statements and videos of the violence in Fineberg continue to trend on Ruvian social media, but reports from Senate insiders indicate that Mr. Geta's reassurances have calmed the senate significantly and a growing number of RCP holdouts are now thought to be very resistant to the idea of imposing economic sanctions at this time, and are urging the Ruvian government to see what comes from planned diplomatic talks. The new Senate Majority Consul, Maxwell Marcus of the RCP, announced that he would not be putting the sanction plan up for a vote today, as there is believed to be a reluctance from him to put forward a bill that reluctant senators from his party would feel intense pressure to not be seen by the public as the ones to strike it down. New Edom remains a very lucrative potential economic partner in the eyes of many in the RCP, and do not wish to antagonize it further despite it's numerous reported human rights abuses so long as there appears to be a path toward New Edom responding to the tragedy in a satisfactory way. This is also in spite of a few moderate conservatives reportedly feeling that a harsher stance on New Edom could be a very good political opportunity to attack Chancellor Anedi Flanders, who had previously championed stronger ties with the embattled nation as part of his network of new alliances. Consul Marcus did not rule out the possibility of the tabled bill being reintroduced should New Edom not follow through on Mr. Geta's promises or the situation deteriorates further. "This is more about giving our Foreign Ministry the opportunity to address the problem through diplomatic means. As shocking and horrible as this incident was, we must not act rashly. It is apparent that new Edom appears more dedicated to taking responsibility for thier actions then was previously believed. We must hold thier feet to the fire and make sure these new statements are genuine and that they will follow through on coming to the table with Ru and addressing these crimes appropriately." Stated the Senate Consul.

secret correspondance:
From: Roxmari H. Kaihel, Secretary of State for His Imperial Majesty
To: Wade Davison, Mediaman Head Minister of Foreign Affairs

To whom it may concern,

Thank you for reaching out to us in this deeply troubling time. We are honored you have such faith and goodwill towards the nation of Ru. We also thank you for this critical information regarding the activities of Greater Nifon and the SACTO alliance in New Edom. We had our suspicions, of course, but thanks to you we now know for certain. So again, we thank you. However, while we are more then happy to cooperate with you in this matter, we do not share your pessimism for a peaceful resolution. Negotiation is being seriously discussed by Thermodolia, the Shrailleeni Empire, and this very ministry. All indications are that New Edom is supportive of these efforts and is eager to sit down at the table and work on a diplomatic solution.

While your reports on SACTO are concerning, from the intelligence you have provided and our own extensive experience in dealing with SACTO aggression, we are very confident that these maneuvers are purely defensive in nature: Greater Nifon does not trust Ru and is alarmed that we have condemned one of their allies directly following a large scale LGBT demonstration in New Edom. They have a tendency to find monsters under every rock whenever Ru comes forward and involves itself in these types of matters. We believe their primary goal is merely to strengthen the military defenses of their ally to protect it from what they see (incorrectly) as the possibility of a Ruvian/globalist invasion of New Edom. We remind you that New Edom is a SACTO signatory and that SACTO has every right to defend it's members from imagined threats so long as they are not threatening Edomite soverignty. Ru's position is that we remain dedicated to the proposed negotiation talks and that we should avoid escalating this situation further so long as SACTOs actions continue to appear to be precautionary and defensive in nature. We would urge your nation to do likewise. We shall keep a very careful eye on this situation and inform you immediately if things change. And if the worst does happen, we are fully prepared to aide you in whatever way you need.

Honorably and respectfully your's,

Roxmari H. Kaihel

Re: LGBT Protestors Attacked by Government Forces

Postby Yohannes » Wed Jan 23, 2019 4:42 am

The day she received her confirmation was also the first day of winter. She spent that early morning ruminating, and when she came out from her apartment the sky was the colour of sandcast lead; and there was a cold wind blowing from the north with bouts of speckling rain. She fastened her overcoat and put her folder inside its underside pocket to keep the rain off her important papers for the day. She walked on in a bleak mood—one glum beltway insider amid the driving rain, her shoes splashing along the puddled, dirty footpath.

Gretel wondered what the Empire of New Edom would be like. New Edom was a nation like any other, in principle; it was simply a stable community of people, formed on the basis of a common economic life and territory. But in practice the Empire of New Edom was a historically fractured collection of people and territories governed by a new regime—and only recently united. For much of its recent life, New Edom was a fractured land of many competing factions. Some had embraced trade with the Realm of Yohannes, while others had not. At the centre of this vulnerable bilateral relationship, for nearly eight years, had been the Yohannesian Consulate-General in Fineberg.

New Edom was more united than Gretel thought. Last night she watched the latest The Realm News headlines from beyond the International Incidents, and learnt that New Edom was now ruled by a king-emperor who had united the once fractured realm. Her spirits lifted at the thought of working in a functioning country.

A cold wind whipped across the open park, freezing her face as she crossed the open ground leading to the Office of Embassy and Consulate Programme on the Quay Building. The backdoor was closed very tightly this morning. Someone must be working hard again last night, she realised. In the private corridor leading to her office she came across a sliding table with a pile of letters—not a very good sign for Gretel. The security guard was bent down in front of her office door.

Gretel asked: “Good early morning, Zhong—what’s happening here?”

The security guard straightened up, and Gretel gave him his coffee. “Four hundred Quertz.”

“O-o-o. Morning, Miss Gretel!” Zhong said enthusiastically in broken Yohannesian. “How come so cheap?”

“So cheap? No, no, Zhong. It’s because I’m their favourite customer—and well, they know who I am.”

Zhong nodded. “Well, Miss Gretel should buy as many coffee from good seller then because they will not see you round no more Miss, soon.”

This was further bad news. “What’s wrong with the door?”

“I had to clean it real good Miss, because the big boss will come round here today to brief you on the essential details. Your departure and posting to the Fineberg Consulate-General, yes?”

She knew the answer—old doors are rarely cleaned so thoroughly around this time unless the Ministers and Parliamentary Under-Secretaries are coming to town. One of the security guards’ jobs was often to do the jobs of the cleaners to ensure that everything would be spotless when the head honchos arrived. Normally they’d be lazy enough to say no. But Zhong was a hard-working immigrant with the right attitude, and that was why he was one of her favourites.

Gretel nodded at Zhong’s answer. “Did they pay you extra?”

“Yes. Hard work. Extra money. Good boss.”

“That’s my man”, Gretel said neutrally. “What’s the story with these letters?”

“Now, they’re extra reading material for you, Miss. Your secretary told me to put them there for you to pick up this morning.”

Of course, Gretel thought. She had heard of the escalating crisis in Fineberg, which had been a particularly big one even for New Edom. She had never seen anything like it since the Empire of Greater Nifon’s expansion and ideological declaration to the international community last year—and this time, Homofront was the culprit too.

Raising her voice above the sound of the rain outside, Gretel said: “It’s been good to have you around here, Zhong. You’re a hard worker, and I hope that Immigration will approve your permanent residency application next month. Will you miss me as your boss?”

Zhong smiled. “And I hope that you will have a great time working in New Edom.”

He added: “The Fineberg Consulate-General will be delighted to have such a nice boss as their new Head of Mission. I’m sure you will have a great time working there, Miss.”

Gretel was unsure about that. She knew why she was promoted. The old Consul-General had resigned to avoid facing this difficult situation. When the going was good seven years ago, he took the credit in cementing relations with New Edom—and now, he would cash out early to avoid the hard times ahead. Last night, she had seen the eighteenth Yohannesian Emperor’s guarded speech, made in response to the brutal crackdown on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender protesters by New Edomite government forces. This morning, she learnt that the Empire of Greater Nifon—a very important Yohannesian trading partner—had pledged to protect New Edom from “foreign military presence within the region.” That was the end, she decided.

“Yohannesian trade and investment in New Edom is now safe thanks to Greater Nifon—isn’t it great?”

“This morning, I’m proud to be a non-Occidental”, Zhong replied.

Gretel nodded and turned to Zhong. “You’ll find that I’m no fan of the Santiago Anti-Communist Treaty Organisation. But their members, and those they’re involved with—Greater Nifon, Greater Carloso, Khataiy, Inyoursta, McNernia—they’ve done great things.”

Zhong said briskly: “They’ve proven that non-Occidental nation-states can be great powers too, I know Miss.”

“And Allanea becoming much more threatening”, said Gretel, shaking her head. “The old order is well and truly gone. And the new will soon replace them. We now have a decentralised situation beyond the International Incidents. A far cry from the 2009 days—eleven years ago, we would not have expected all this.”

Zhong finished it: “But the Realm of Yohannes is still here.”

Gretel said: “Why the Nineteen Countries, then?”

Zhong pretended to think he was being asked about his opinion on the Realm of Yohannes’ situation beyond the International Incidents. He said: “Our political and commercial success—not military.”

Gretel looked at him with irritation. “No, I meant why choose the Realm of fiords and mountain as your adopted country? What with the rise of Greater Nifon, Laeral and other non-Occidental nations—”

“Beautiful environment and good schools for my son”, Zhong said, but Gretel had already figured that out. Despite the odds stacked against them, Asian Yohannesian families were known for raising excellent school leavers and future breadwinners.

“And well—I’m a Green voter”, Zhong chuckled.

“You’ve made the right choice by not settling in Greater Nifon, then”, said Gretel. “Or for that matter, the rest of SACTO.”

She tore her gaze away and looked out the window. The rain had turned into a torrential downpour.

“I’m afraid for the future of many social-democratic and progressive movements out there.”

The First Reich's Crusade against Homosexuality (1666)

Ruhmeshalle, Neo Prussian Reich

"Heil Leopold Johann Archibald Kaiser von Neu-Preußen, König von Hamburg , Fürst zu Neu-Berlin!" A deep voice echoed through the granite corridors of the Ruhmeshalle, the most magnificent piece of architecture in the world that perhaps the Prussian people can only think of, being the most superior race of the world of course. The man who had just shouted the complete name of the Kaiser was a personal courier of the Imperial Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who has brought with him an envelope with an official seal from the Reichminister. As the Grand Kaiser turned around to face the courier, the latter knelt down while looking straight down to the ground as if staring at the deepest pits of hell.

"Stop staring at the ground, soldier. You might bring a homosexual from hell with that intense stare of yours," The Kaiser took a brief pause and cleared his throat, "Stand up and tell me what news do you bring from that fat fuck minister?" The Kaiser jokingly said, and for the record, the reichsminister is 400 pounds.

"Mein Kaiser, I brought important news regarding the latest incident in the international community. There have been news of LGBT protesters being shot in a country called New Edom."

"A fellow "Neo" country hah! Perhaps we shall have a competition with New Edom and increase our homosexual kill counts twicefold. I have made up my mind, I shall continue what my ancestors have started and that is to get rid of the evil beings in our holy sanctuary." The Kaiser declared.

The soldiers have been enlightened as if all the philosophers of the world have gathered around him and signed up to be his personal tutor. He had realized that while the Neo Prussian Reich is a hyperpower of some sorts, getting rid of gender deviants will make the country an ultrapower. Tears start flowing to his cheeks as he said "Your orders, mein Kaiser?"

"Let us begin the Neo-Homo Crusade ja! "

"Heil Kaiser, the program will immediately headstart."

"Tell also the fat fuck to send a letter to New Edom, commending them of their most noble actions of humanity's progress."

"Ja Heil Kaiser."

New Edom wrote:Fineberg, New Edom, Near the Chuckian Embassy

As the two APCs trained their weapons upon the three squads of Embassy Guards, the guards immediately stopped and the commanding officer stepped forwards. Taking off his helmet he addressed the New Edomite soldiers,

"I am Sgt. Grant Stevens of the Chuckian Embassy Guard. We were ordered to assist the occupants of this vehicle by Ambassador Parker since they are members of our embassy staff and citizens of our nation who were being attacked by rioters. We are all currently unarmed aside from our riot shields. How would you like us to proceed?"

Nodding in understand, Sgt. Grant Stevens started to speak,

"The occupants of the vehicle are two of our ambassadorial staff and two civilian journalists from the Chuckian Continental, one of the largest news organizations of our country. They had arrived today and were being driven to our embassy to be able to 'lay low'. If you need to write a report which is understandable, I can be of assistanc..."

At that moment, someone shouted from down the street. Turning their heads to look, the group of soldiers could see that it was Ambassador Parker who had shouted and who was now walking towards them. When he got to within speaking distance he spoke and addressed Lieutenant Lucas Fabian.

"Sir, this issue is my fault. We didn't believe that New Edomite forces would have been able to get to them in time and thus my duty as a servant of my people forced me to deploy the embassy guards to assist them. I hope you understand that reasoning. I also am semi-familiar with New Edomite military procedure so I assume that you must fill out a report? If possible I grant authorization for you to join us on embassy grounds to write this report so we can get out of the streets during these times of unrest. What was your name again by the way?"

TO: The Empire of New Edom
FROM: The Confederation of the New Visayan Islands
RE: LGBT Riots

The Confederation has received disturbing news surrounding your Empire; fragmented reports suggest that a demonstration for LGBT rights has devolved into outright rioting with lethal force having been deployed in an attempt to suppress said rioting.

As you well know, the Rainbow Pipeline was established to ensure the peaceful emigration of members of the LGBT community from New Edom to the Confederation. That said, this development is cause for alarm; has the Rainbow Pipeline been sabotaged, and if so, can the damage be controlled?

Long story short, we only ask that an investigation be done as soon as possible to ascertain whether what has transpired is an isolated incident or a sign that this Rainbow Pipeline is in grave peril.

We hope for peaceful resolution to this problem.

Sincerely,

Dominic J. Kang, MBA
Visayan Embassy to New Edom

"How did this happen?!" Donald Torres began. The security attaché of the Embassy was fuming at the conference table as information started to flow. At the head, Dominic was already on his fourth cigarette; while federal offices were non-smoking by regulation, unofficially, considerable leeway was granted during a crisis.

The Rainbow Pipeline was a program suggested by Ambassador Kang to facilitate the peaceful emigration of members of the LGBT community to the Visayan Confederation. Some difficulty was had, as the projected influx was anticipated to max out the previous year's Refugee/Asylee quota; that the quota had tripled for the current year was to account for the beneficiaries of the Rainbow Pipeline--and the unrest put the safety of the Pipeline in jeopardy.

"It was all on me," Paula Yap replied. Officially the Deputy Chief of Mission, Paula was also the VIA Chief of Station. "We've been getting reports of possible violence coming from some of the asylees; they're concerned about what might happen to the ones who can't make it."

"And now we have people running from the unrest seeking asylum," Dominic said, "in addition to the asylees we already have here."

"Given the possibility of Homofront involvement," Paula continued, "my recommendation would be to separate the asylees fleeing the unrest from the rest of the Rainbow Pipeline. We need as much information as we can gather from them; if the information leads us to Homofront..."

"...we can give those Rainbow Nazis a solid boot to the face," Major Thomas Lee finished. The military attaché was cracking his knuckles at an opportunity to show Homofront what facing Visayans that do not take kindly to fantastical Nazis meant. "That means we need to open the Embassy to them."

"But we still need to divert them from the rest of the Rainbow Pipeline," Donald said. "We have plenty of brains to pick, and maybe a few candidates for WitPro."

"We still need to open the Embassy gates soon," Dominic retorted. He was right; as soon as unrest took place, the Embassy went on lockdown. Asylees, immigrants, and even tourists lining up for their visas had to hole up within the Embassy, and the compound was nearly overcrowded.

Fineberg, New Edom
The Streets of the City

Sir Michael, Sergeant-Major Barca and the other guardsmen had barrelled down Embassy Row, charged down the next road and jogged confidently down the one after that. Now they marched, tired, rifles barely held up from their swift trek through the city. Ahead, tear gas was rising into the air, clearly the result of the grenades they'd heard fired a few minutes before. This area of the city, an awkward mishmash of residential and commercial, had clearly seen looting and violence. A light trickle of blood made its meandering way down the street guttery and Sir Michael cleared his throat, his right hand was held up as a signal for his accompanying infantry to hold while his left hand was shakily feeding heavy bullets into a Webley revolver.

"Your glasses, Sergeant-Major," Sir Michael asked, casually. Barca nodded and placed a light pair of binoculars in the ambassador's hand. Sir Michael stared through them, wordless.

"Sir?" Barca asked, hesitantly.

"That's them," Sir Michael muttered, the binoculars still held up firmly. "They're holding hands..." He exclaimed, "Fuck... Fuck!" Sir Michael never swore, he had the temper now of a concerned father. He turned to his men, "Frankenlisch Guards," He ordered, for that was their old regiment to which they still, technically, belonged, "Fix bayonets!"

With an efficiency that could only be hammered home by eight months of foot drill, rifle drill and bayonet drill, the soldiers affixed their clumsy sword-bayonets to their battle rifles. Barca looked worriedly at the long blades as he fixed the shorter bayonet of the Dolov Assault Carbine Mk2 to its barrel. "Sir," He said, stepping forward, "What are you doing?"

"Guards, charge your bayonets!" Sir Michael, a former combat soldier himself, ordered. His men let out a throaty battle cry as they levelled their rifles menacingly, even still, they began eyeing each other and their NCO nervously.

"Sir," Barca stepped in, "This is a bad idea, we can just walk over peacefully and get your daughter, let's put the guns away. Sir?"

Sir Michael turned to the Sergeant Major, "Would you care to observe, Mister Barca?" He asked, holding up the binoculars. As the ambassador gave the loud call to advance, Barca looked through.

Weightless, the truncheon came down again. Blood ran down the street. The poor bastard next to Mary and Bethany had stopped moving, stopped making any noise except a dull thump as the batons came down on him. He'd been beaten either senseless or to a sad, worthless death. The girls had managed to escape with a few punches and knocks but their turn to receive what seemed both ceremonial and completely random beatings seemed coming. Shivering and wet-through from the water cannons, the pair stood against a brick wall, hands still entwined. Bethany looked to her left, Mary looked to her right. The Vionnan was nursing a streaming, bloody nose and her knees were badly cut up as she had fallen. Bethany had bruises already forming on each cheek and she felt like she had lost teeth, although she couldn't feel any missing. She felt sure that her wrist was broken or fractured and wasn't looking forward to taking any more.

A tall militia officer approached them, Bethany closed her eyes and prayed quietly. The officer looked them up and down, seemingly unimpressed at their timidity. Mary was still smiling though, and she was the proud daughter of a knight of the realm, despite her overwhelming fear. "We hail to thee, 'o gracious King," She began to sing, "To thee, each day, our tributes bring." She smiled up at the officer, cheekily but with those eyes with betrayed her true fear and the sadness of her resignation.

Frankenlisch, Kingdom of Frankenlisch
Halls of Government, Commons Chamber

"Let it be known, Mister Speaker, that the Labour Party absolutely condemns the actions of the Edomite Government!" Thomas Howe, the aggressive leader of the Labour Party announced to raucous applause from one half of the house and vicious shouting from the other half. "This Government has continued to support the actions of a foreign power that oppresses and assaults its own citizens. Twenty-two thousand Vionna-Frankenlischians serve in the four volunteer brigades that this Government sent to the Imperion Coalition. Hundreds of these men may well be serving in the Imperion forces in New Edom. Can the House believe that men from the glens of Ballaeter and the streets of Frankenlisch may well be deployed to repress and even kill Edomite civilians by the despicable Government of Count Lalery!"

That was met with explosive reactions from across the House, Labour cheered and clapped and rustled papers, the Conservatives shouted and booed and the Imperials were conspicuous by their silence. Howe finished off as if only now aware that this was, in fact, Prime Minister's Questions, "Will the Prime Minister continue to support the actions of the Edomite Government which has made it completely clear that it doesn't care a damn for its own citizens? And will the Prime Minister support the actions of our troops if they are ordered to open fire on pro-LGBT protesters?"

Count Dochlov Zimmermann, the Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party stood to return fire. "There is no evidence to support this notion that Imperion Coalition troops are going to be firing on anyone, especially citizens of the Edomite state. We have received many conflicting reports, some suggesting that this was a Homofront attack and some suggesting that the Edomite state is at fault for things getting out of hand. Damn it all, some reports are even saying a mutiny in the Edomite militia or army is at fault. We cannot act until we have further information. And need I remind the Right Honourable Gentleman that is was his Party, the Labour Party, that has bowed to will of homophobes and sexists throughout its former Governments and it was the Labour Party that delayed the Sexuality Rights and Reform Act until the Conservatives rescued it from their careless arms!"

It was a routine reply, dodge the question and hit the opposition, just as Zimmermann had been taught by his predecessor as Leader of the Conservative Party, Ewart Harris. The Speaker called out the next questioner, "Mister Arthur Astron!"

"Fuck," Zimmermann muttered. This was not planned. Arthur Astron, Companion of the Order of the Quill and heir to the Marquess of Dunstock was the Leader of the Imperial Party and he shared a Coalition Government with Zimmermann. Despite their shared interests, the two butted heads often and it seemed a loveless marriage, a matrimony of necessity. The Chief Whip had not spoken to Astron for three days and Zimmermann and his Conservative colleagues knew full well that whatever he had to say, it would not be good for the Government...

"Thank you, Mister Speaker," Astron declared in the same courteous manner which he always displayed, "I would first like to congratulate the Right Honourable member, the Leader of the Opposition for his fine words in condemnation of the disgraceful actions of the Edomite state." Zimmermann went red, things got steadily worse. "I would be most glad to join him in censuring the actions of the Edomite Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Police, the Edomite Militia forces and military which have fired upon and killed pro-LGBT marchers in a peaceful protest." Zimmermann's head was in his hands. Astron saved the worst for last, "I was in the Prime Minister's cabinet when the 2016 Sexuality Rights and Reform Act was passed and I want to tell the House that it was down the Imperial Party that that Bill was passed, If not for the brave votes of Conservative Party MPs which voted against the Prime Minister and his close cabinet and those members across this House, that Act would never have been passed. And lest we forget the miraculous intervention of the House of Nobles in rescuing the Bill from being shelved by the Conservative Cabinet! I ask the Prime Minister plainly, will he join the House whose confidence he commands and condemn the hateful actions of the Government of New Edom and the dastardly Count Lalery?"

The Vionna-Frankenlischian House of Commons is made up of 825 Members of Parliament.
The Current Government is a coalition between the Conservative and Imperial Parties, led by the Conservatives.

The Conservative Party holds 275 seats and is led by Count Dochlov Zimmermann, the only title-holding member of the Commons.
The Imperial Party holds 251 seats and is led by Arthur Astron. Both coalition parties depend on the other for their Government position.
The Labour Party is the main Government Opposition, it holds 184 seats and is led by the bold and aggressive Thomas Howe.

Today was the day. Today was the day the barbaric Edomites would suffer. Today blood would be spilled in cold blooded revenge.

The plastic explosives had arrived, 50kg of C-4. Jack spilt it up into 35kg going with himself, 10kg going to a church and the rest going to a different location in the city. As the last minute preparations had been completely he loaded 200kg of homemade explosives into a van he rented with cash from a local agency.

After Jack put the remaining boxes of explosives into the van he set off. His first stop was a homeless shelter. There he gave a random guy the box containing 10kg of C-4 and told him to walk to the nearest Kogyokist church, if he did this Jack would pay him 50,000 in cash. His next stop was not far from the Fineberg Military District where he left the van with a fellow radical. The van had been painted to look like a random city owned work van. Jack then boarded the nearest bus and took a ride to a bus depot. Once there he left a small cardboard box next to a trash can. Now all Jack had to do was get to the Palace of Justice.

Getting through the guards surrounding the Palace of Justice wasn’t easy but it was nothing for someone like himself. After showing them his forged Ministry of Justice badges he was let through. He knew he had to act quickly or they would find out he wasn’t who he said he was.

Once inside the lobby of the building Jack stopped and pulled out the trigger from his backpack. In one quick motion he pressed the trigger while shouting “Death to the Oppressors!!”. Unfortunately for the Edomites they didn’t have any time to react as 35kg of C-4 and 3kg of shrapnel exploded throughout the lobby of the Palace of Justice. The entire glass façade of the building was blown out as the force of the explosion knocked people to the ground.

Only seconds later did the next bombings happen. The bus depot bomb was the first to go off, with 5kg of C-4 and 5kg of shrapnel flying through the air. Then came the Kogyokist church. The homeless man whom Jack had given the bomb had no idea what hit him when 10kg of C-4 exploded just as he stepped inside the ornate building. Then the last one, Jack’s Grand Finale, his piece de resistance went off with a bang. The van that was parked not far from the Fineberg Military District drove through the fence on its way to the military district headquarters. Once it got close enough it exploded with such a force that windows in a two kilometer radius blew out.

Jack had done it. Chaos reigned supreme in Fineberg. Edomite blood had been spilled in revenge.

To: Foreign Minister Hosidius Geta
From: Ambassador Jacob Lee
Subject: Adiron
Encryption: Highest

Foreign Minister, I wish I was writing under better circumstances. For what it’s worth, I extend my compliments to the Fineberg militia for their prompt and decisive response to the riots.

I believe it goes without saying that in the event of some misguided military response by foreign interlopers, the Imperium stands ready to honor our alliance. Admiral Rothbard has been notified, and will be prepared to get underway at a moment’s notice.

Having witnessed the latest speech by the Adirans’…charming Secretary of State, my government is increasingly concerned about the political situation in Adiron. The Curia in their wisdom did foresee this possibility. After all, it is so terribly difficult for democratic governments to carry out long-term policy. They can never hold back the inevitable chaos for more than a few short years, when the whims of the fickle masses can erase months or years of fruitful work. My government is accordingly watching events in their legislature closely.

In truth, anxiety has been building for some time now. Increasingly some members of the Curia fear that the Adirans may be unable or unwilling to carry out the peace terms in good faith. The following signs do not, in the opinion of my government, point to a nation committed to real peace:

1. Adiran public figures and voters resist the broad trade stipulations which we made clear must be part of any agreement. Clearly they do not view free trade as an avenue to peace and instead resent the very idea of it.
2. In Adiran media there appears to be an endless supply of criticism for the terms of the ceasefire agreement and the tone of our diplomats.
3. Most tellingly, members of the governing coalition publicly doubt the Curia’s peaceful intentions and have spent the past two years sparring with one another over whether our terms were generous enough.
4. The ongoing awkward posturing the Adirans make towards your own government, the recent statement by their Secretary of State being the latest example.

There are members of my government who believe the Imperium was more than generous to offer peace at all, and that Adiron is in no position to be making demands of any kind. It is true, after all, that with New Edom’s recent triumphs abroad and its membership in other international organizations, the alliance between our two nations is more powerful than ever. The only reason we are entertaining counteroffers at all is out of love for our wayward Brothers, but make no mistake, if we cannot bring them back into the fold by His Word, it shall be by His Sword.

Until there is some material improvement in the political situation in Adiron, my government feels it is imprudent to demobilize any part of Army Group West unilaterally at this time. Should a new Adiran government reject the peace outright and resume hostilities, our nation will be disadvantaged militarily.

Luckily during your talks with the Adirans, General Nicanor proposed a most sensible solution: the demobilization of Adiran air and artillery units on the border, concurrent with the demobilization of the first Imperial ground forces. An incoming Adiran government cannot reverse this with a simple stroke of the pen, at least not without expending considerable time and resources, and not without us having ample warning. That could give even the most aggressive future Adiran government pause, and satisfy my government’s concerns enough to continue demobilization as planned.

By His Word,
Ambassador Lee
He who stands with me shall be my brother

A message from the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Gothenstein and His Majesty

Here in Gothenstein, we believe that warmongering is not, in fact, a competent idea. We maintain that war and terrorism over internal policy that does not spell danger for your own nation is an unproportional response to an issue that should have otherwise stayed within the boundaries of peace talks and economics.

While we would have originally taken proportional, mild action against the behavior of the Edomite state, the state of New Edom is facing crisis. To sanction and harass the Edomite state at this time would be disgusting, almost as disgusting as the invaders.

We have caught wind of a reprehensible, murderous act of violence committed most likely by those who cannot grasp competent diplomacy. Those who physically attack the state of Edom are more reprehensible than any perpetrator of repression of dissent, and are hereby sanctioned completely. We also will be fortifying our Embassy to New Edom. All foreign soldiers, non-Edomite or not allied to New Edom, without prior permission, will be shot at if they pass within 100 meters of the embassy for the safety of our embassy staff.

It is simply shameful that we must remind the free world that warmongering is the staple of violent, barbaric rogue states. Your ancestors are rolling in their graves.

- Otto Iriditz XIV
King of the Goths

With that, the gates to the Gothensteiner Embassy to New Edom, somewhere within Fineberg, shut. Guards took positions, patrolling in and outside the building and scouting around with binoculars. The building was surrounded by a wall-like fence. The staff within the building were kept away from windows while the soldiers only occasionally patrolled by. The building was now closed to all visitors except for Edomite government officials.

A sign was posted at the gate saying 'No refugees!!!' in multiple different languages. People who clearly had no reason to be there that touched the gate anyways would receive warning shots, and then a couple real shots if they still hung around for some reason. If they ran, they would not be further attacked.

New Laconia
Adiron

As the footage of the crackdown hit the news, social media in Adiron began to explode. Many assumed the worst, that this was entirely deliberately. Comparisons to the Imperium were drawn, and a group on Spacebook was organized to protest at the Edomite embassy.

Other people, however, noticed Bailey’s statement more. A number of the would-be protestors praised her for standing up to what they referred to as "the old stand-by: Homofront did it." Ober hollered to get her office on the phone. Snyder cursed a blue streak. Cruise dropped a sandwich. Rowan stared at it motionless.

By some coincidence, Hugh Atkins had been out of the office just as Bailey was giving her speech. When someone mentioned it, he went wide eyed and took off at a brisk jog down the corridor. There was a reaction before he even got back. As aides tried to juggle phones, he intercepted Bailey just as she was returning. “Madame Secretary, you moved the statement forward. We didn’t have a chance to review or revise it. I’ll be frank, this office is being bombarded with calls from various departments, all looking for an explanation. They feel this was premature.”

She appeared irritable and harried. “I was assured dialogue would be allowed. I was assured of this personally by senior members of their government. Instead it’s lethal force, heavy weapons on peaceful protestors. The bodies in the street suggest I was either lied to or there was a panic. If I was lied to, then they’re just like the Imperium. If it was panic, it suggests homophobia is so pervasive that any visible presence of LGBT activism is enough to provoke violent retribution by law enforcement. Neither is acceptable.”

“Madame Secretary, this risks established diplomacy, most notably the peace agreement on the border…”

“…which is stalled,” she continued. She stopped to look at him finally now that they were in her office proper. “The Imperium is no closer to demobilization than it was a year ago. Do they even want peace? How would we know? We’ve heard absolutely nothing from them and their government remains opaque as ever. Suppose this agreement never gets past where we are right now? Will Fineberg hold this over our heads indefinitely as an instrument to deflect any criticism of their government while the threat of war remains the same?”

“Madame Secretary, your statement was too definitive at this time. I believe we should have waited for better evidence before attempting to counter their narrative…”

“For god’s sake, Hugh, are we going to be subject to this same double standard yet again?” she snapped. “In 2016 we presented evidence of the Imperials carrying out acts of state sponsored terrorism, the Edomites immediately poo-pooed the evidence, demanded it be verified by their other allies, demanded that no one so much as react to it, did everything they could to undermine international support against the Imperium as they were starting a war with us. The Edomites make an unverified claim of a terrorist attack, multiple nations immediately believe and support this, and we can’t so much as ask for evidence or point out the lack thereof?”

“Evidence, Madame Secretary, I wanted to bring that up. I’m getting calls from the AIS looking for clarifications about your reference to the intelligence community, they’re not happy,” Atkins pointed out. “They say you’ve put lives at risk.”

“I was not referring to the AIS. I clearly cited domestic counterterrorism and law enforcement and eyewitness accounts,” she said dismissively.

“With due respect, Madame Secretary, it was not that clear from your statement. You said intelligence community and referred to Fineberg,” Atkins said.

“Again, we’re subject to the closest scrutiny. One bit of terminology is off and the sky is falling and everything else we say must be ignored. Meanwhile the Imperium and their allies the Edomites, they can all commit massacres and blame Homofront with no proof,” she vented. “I’m tired of being ignored. I’m tired of our government turning a blind eye. If I do nothing else before this coalition succumbs, let it at least be said I stood for the values I said I held.”

The phone mercifully rang. Atkins answered it.

“Yes? Yes? Yes. Yes, thank you,” Atkins said, hanging up. He looked at Bailey stoicly. “The Edomite Foreign Ministry has released an official statement. To give you a summary, it opens explaining that Princess Jocasta’s statement, the one you responded to, does not represent the official view of their government. It states that they cannot verify Homofront involvement at this time and that the organizers were part of civil rights groups who let things get out of hand. They’re asking for the embassies’ cooperation.”

“It’s a start. I want more than that, I want an explanation. I want to know why so many ended up dead,” Bailey said darkly. “And no asylum seekers are to be removed from embassy grounds.”

“Yes, Madame Secretary,” Atkins said, leaving the room.

Adiran Embassy
Fineberg

The start to Ambassador Nelson’s tenure was therefore a rocky one. In the embassy lobby their group of battered marchers were waiting out the riot and the curfew. One man had been shot in the thight and was being stabilized. The guards were tense, too many unadmitted guests. Watching TV in his office, Nelson said “Great, Eastnam’s footage is all over the news, wonder how long before we get a nice little chat with the Council Police about why we’re harboring Homofront.”

Collins nodded solemnly, changing the channel on a different television. He sat up straight in his chair and said “Mr. Ambassador…it’s the Secretary of State.”

“What?” Nelson asked, doing a double take before staring intently. They watched her statement almost aghast.

“Why’d she go over my head?” Nelson said, gobsmacked. A look of horror came over his face as she continued though. “Wait…did she say the intelligence community?”

He left his office abruptly and asked the first familiar staffer “Have you seen Mr. Waller?”

“Think I saw him at the shredder,” was the reply.

They arrived just in time to see Stephen Waller walk up to the shredder with several folders and plop it down on an existing stack of folders. One of his subordinates was feeding the machine steadily. The normally amiable man was stonefaced. “Easy come easy go…” he grumbled.

Figuring Waller had enough on his plate, Nelson went back to Collins and found him hanging up the phone.

“Got hold of Atkins. Apparently the Secretary of State was…greatly incensed. Feels she had been lied to about civil rights in New Edom and saw everyone jumping on the Homofront bandwagon behind the Princess. Apparently she feared that a narrative was developing whereby Homofront would be used as an excuse for a purge. So she countered it herself,” Collins said grimly.

“For f…did this happen to Redstone? I don’t remember this happening to him,” Nelson said, massaging his temple.

“I have our line…such as it is,” Collins explained. “Atkins said we can and should clarify what the Secretary meant, such as the intelligence thing, but make clear the government’s position on suppressing this protest. Apparently the Secretary insisted we appear unified.”

Nelson threw up his hands. “Am I the ambassador or am I the fucking ambassador? Can I do my job or what?”

“What do we do? We can’t just say our Secretary of State has gone off the deep end,” Collins said worriedly.

“Can’t we?”

“No…unless…” he said, pondering it a moment, “No, no, of course not.”

Nelson walked over to his desk, opened his drawer, and took out a large bottle of aspirin. “You got Eastnam’s camera, right?”

“Under lock and key,” Collins replied, holding his hand out for some aspirin of his own.

Nelson poured him some. “At least there’s that. How long before—“

The phone rang. It sounded angry in their opinion. “There it is,” Collins said with a resigned sigh.

The Ambassador received a number of phone calls from Lalery’s office. Every once in a while he would speak in greater detail. “I can try to explain as best I can, Excellency. The Secretary of State was responding specifically to the public statement made by Princess Jocasta, which caused a great deal of confusion on our end. My government in general was greatly relieved to receive your statement clarifying the matter…yes, I am aware that the Secretary did not wait for an official statement, and I have no explanation at this time for that, I’m sorry.

Later on he was scribbling something down. “We needed to seek clarification of that remark as well. When she said ‘intelligence community,’ that was a gaff. The term ‘intelligence community’ was overly broad, it’s not what she meant…a mistake, that’s correct. Apparently she was referencing her previous mention of domestic counterterrorism and law enforcement. Operations conducted within Adiron tracking international and online Homofront activity.”

After that he looked at his empty water glass in dismay. His mouth was getting dry. “…no, I don’t know why she said ‘intelligence community.’ What about what? No, any reference to information collected in Fineberg refers solely to firsthand eyewitness accounts by embassy staff today. Whatever we saw out the window or in the media.”

“Are you asking me that Your Excellency?” he asked, nervously tapping his pencil, teeth clenched. “Yes, Secretary Bailey does continue to support gay rights…yes, she does believe it is their right to protest…yes, that is generally the position of our government, but that doesn’t mean…no I’m afraid I’m not familiar with that verse, Your Excellency…I don’t think I can comment on that, Excellency, that’s between her and her husband.”

“We will cooperate with law enforcement, we will admit a limited number of police to the grounds, but my government maintains that no one is to be removed at this time…no I’m afraid I don’t have a timeframe but I can certainly ask.”

“Think they’ll buy that?” Collins asked when he stopped in between calls.

“Probably not. Doesn’t matter. We’re taking this on the nose no matter what. We need an official response, quick, before Bailey decides to do another one,” Nelson said wearily, head resting in his hands. First major challenge and he was getting sandbagged from above. What a day…

"Well shit..."

President Walter Sobchak hung up the phone he had been listening to just moments earlier. Looking up he wasn't surprised to see Caldwell McAllister III, owner of the McAllister Munitions Company and a government adviser, sitting at the conference table in the situation room.

"Well Caldwell, looks like we just invaded New Edom thanks to Ambassador Parker."

"What? What do you mean we just invaded New Edom?"

"Looks like some journalists from the Chuckian Continental were supposed to arrive at the embassy there and report on the situation going down over there with the government and the 'Homofront' protesters. As they neared the embassy they were swarmed by unknown rioters and Parker, doing his duty, ordered the Marine Embassy Guard to exit the embassy grounds and chase off the rioters. Unfortunately some A.P.C.s stopped them and now he's going outside to try and defuse the situation."

"Shit!? They weren't armed were they?"

"Luckily no. Parker had the smarts to make them leave their weapons back on embassy grounds. However they were equipped with riot shields and gear so not sure how that will play out. Guess we need to cancel that speech in case the New Edomites contact us. Speaking of which, make sure that no weapons whatsoever from your company end up in New Edomite. Got it?"

"Of course, we've already got to worry about those revolutionaries who have some of our weapons. I'll make sure the 'Homofront' people don't get a hold of any of our weapons. So what are you going to do?"

"I'm going to wait and see if the New Edomites get in touch with us. We might have to do some good old negotiations to defuse this situation but hopefully Parker has this covered. He's in one hell of a sticky situation."

OOC: Sorry if the German is inaccurate, its not my first language. Also, I have no opinion on LGBT issues, this is just for RP purposes. I dont support discrimination of any kind. also im well aware this is disgusting... this is how i was told to make it

IC: At a cabin between die Ostenbergen and Gefroren Naval Base
Kronprinz 1st Lt. Peter von Wittlesburg silently motioned for the squad to halt. He was deployed with Company A of the 1. Elitemarineinfanteriebataillon.

The vast majority of Regensburg's homosexuals are extremely loyal to the government for protecting their rights, so when the Homofront came in trying to upset that balance and force them underground, those that didn't outright kill them in bar fights turned informant for the government. They found that one cell was active in the forests of New Regensburg, and the Marines were sent to take care of them.

"Kapitan, wir haben die Homofront-Terroristen gefunden." (Captain, we have found the Homofront terrorists)
"Gut. Nehmen sie ihren pathetischen Lebens." (Good. Take their pathetic lives.)

"Hold. We have more terrorists. AK47 rifles, hand grenades. I need to speak with the Capitan again."

"Kapitan, wir haben ueber zehn Terroristen hier. Koennen sie die anderen Gruppen senden?" (1st. Lieutenant, we have north of 10 terrorists at this location. Can you send the other squads to assist?)
"Oberleutnant, wir koennen sie nicht senden. Sie sind allein. Viel Glueck." (2nd. Lt., we cannot send them. Good luck.)

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are alone. Fritz, take your M27 and set up behind that rock. Katja, take your HK and climb the tree. Paul, you're with me. Let's make these terrorists pay."

Peter, next to his friend of 18 years, Paul (the Chancellor's son, whose father served with the King, Peter's father, fighting Nazi guerrillas in the Crimson Forest), raised his suppressed M8A2 Carbine. Paul and him maneuvered around the cabin, to a spot where they would be able to cover their squadmates. Into his radio, he whispered, "Feuer."

Machine gun fire rattled the cabin from Fritz's M27, effectively pinning the poorly trained terrorists down. Cries of "I EAT HETEROS LIKE YOU FOR BREAKFAST" rang out from the cabin. Peter and Paul quickly dispatched the two Homofront guarding the back side, while Katja killed the snipers on the roof and the machine gunner in the second-story window. Their death croaks let go vicious screams Peter kicked in the door, and he and Paul shot the 4 terrorists in the kitchen. A Homofront with a shotgun came up to the pair and said in an effeminate voice, "You wanna have some fun?", but Fritz reloaded, and filled his back with holes. There was one spare room, and an upstairs. Fritz trained his MG on the window of the spare room, while Katja trained her rifle back upstairs.

They breached simultaneously. Peter shot 2 terrorists hiding in cover behind the window, while Fritz annihilated a Homofront with a pistol hiding behind the door. He had designer heels on and had a graphic Damoclean shirt on. "Du schuldest mir zwei jetzt, Peter." (You owe me two, now, Peter) "Ja, OK Fritz."
Meanwhile, Katja opened fire on a terrorist who showed his head, as Paul easily took out the remaining three cowards behind cover.

Peter ordered them to regroup in the kitchen. They were all relatively fresh Marines, and they felt great pride in having completed their first mission against a numerically superior foe without losing anybody. It was clear that they already had a bond, but that would only grow with time.

They found three bombs capable of leveling a skyscraper, and called in the cavalry once they were clear. Apparently, there were other terrorists in cabins all across the area, and all other units were preoccupied. They realized that the cabin stunk of feces, not in the heat of battle anymore, and found giant rainbow flags hidden in the closet as well, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. There was graphic pornography depicting the gay rape of leading government officials, including King and Chancellor. The two sons looked away, about to throw up. Katja ran outside, and actually did part with her lunch. Fritz let out a yelp upon seeing it. Then, they found a pamphlet detailing how to preform involuntary gender reassignment surgery. They discovered two terrorists fornicating under a table. Peter pulled out a K-BAR and began viciously slashing into them. "SIE RESPEKTLOSEN SCHWEINEN!" He continued to cut into them with a vicious hatred he didn't know he had, until Paul laid a hand on his shoulder and got him to stop. The marines said nothing, they approved of his actions anyways.

They were about to move out to assist their company, when an imposing figure blocked the door way.

"Nein. Sie kommen mit mir." (No. You are coming with me.)

Realizing that it was General Eisenherz, Peter immediately shouted "ACHTUNG!" and all 4 snapped to attention.

"Peter, that is not necessary, but your father has trained you well. I served with him and Paul's father in the Nazi Guerilla Wars."

"General, I mean no offense, but why are you here?"

"Your battalion finished off the Regensburg Homofront today. I'm here to tell you in person, that you are deploying to the Ritter."

Your Excellency,

How delightful and pleasurable to hear from you. I hope that all is well in your honourable republic.

Yes, I’m afraid that there has been a serious public disturbance. Massive crowds were formed through contact via social media without our government’s knowledge. This sort of lack of communication, especially where heated political arguments are taking place, will naturally but unfortunately lead to confrontations. Because molotov cocktails were thrown by militant activists who did not share the peaceful intentions of the crowd, riot militia and army units were called out. This is the information known so far. Naturally there will be an investigation.

For the time being, I would encourage issuing an advisory to Chacano citizens to avoid going out for unnecessary reasons until the all clear is sounded. Otherwise, your government need not be concerned. I am glad you have communicated with me in this thoughtful manner and hope to speak with you again soon. Do not hesitate to contact me with further concerns.

I have the honour to be,

To whom it may concern,

The Rainbow Pipeline policy is still in force as far as I know. All applicants in New Edom will have to follow our regular emigration policies. Unfortunately it does appear that the policy planning was leaked and that some people misinterpreted it as an excuse to demonstrate on a massive and not officially announced scale. This, of course, resulted in miscommunication and scuffles that turned into riots. People were throwing molotov cocktails as well, and to be blunt, that’s an act of violence that cannot be tolerated.

Naturally an investigation will take place, and your government will be informed as to its results insofar as it might affect our diplomatic relations and mutual interest.

I have also been informed that several embassies are receiving huge numbers of applicants, and this will have to be sorted out. This may take some time, which is unfortunate for those who are sincere and reasonable applicants who wanted to leave our country peacefully. Please be reassured that we will be doing our best to restore things to peaceful, normal relations.

Dear Ambassador,

I hope that you, your wife and staff are in fair condition and not to alarmed by the recent disturbance. Of course you have been in our capital for some time and have faced worse, it is sad to say, but this is hardly the worst trouble that has happened in Fineberg. I am reliably informed that it will all be over soon and that the Military District of Fineberg and militia have things well in hand.

In light of the recent public declarations from Secretary Bailey, there will be a special meeting of the Council of Ministers to raise your concerns and to determine the direction of the talks. Adiron must demonstrate its good faith and de-escalate the tensions on the border, that is absolutely certain. For now, CPO forces remain of course, but it is possible that Bailey, in pursuit of her political aims, may push for an entirely pro-Adiran solution.

I shall be in communication with you further about these issues, but rest assured: it is one of our top priorities.

I have the honour to be

Streets of Fineberg

Sirens were going off in the city in general. Emergency vehicles were summoned to sites where it was reported that there had been big explosions. There were people screaming and casualties in the sreets. One of the targets had been the Palace of Justice itself. Militia who had seen these events from a distance reported that it was a bomb in each case. Anyone out on the streets would start to see vehicles with sirens blaring charging down the streets. Loudspeakers blared that people needed to find a safe place and stay home.

General Merari, hearing of these reports from his HQ in the Military District of Fineberg, grimly said, "This is out of control. I want 1/6th Engineers out there, NBC and Firebrigade units to each position. The emergency bunker two blocks down from Ministry of Defense, we will use that as HQ. Let's get HQ Company moving down there with signals support."

He also directed the 1st Miltiary Police Regiment's two battalions to block off all roads in and out of the city and secure the airport. Then he reported his intentions to the Minister of Defense, who assented to what he had ordered.

Kingdom of Frankenlisch Embassy

A tall militia officer approached them, Bethany closed her eyes and prayed quietly. The officer looked them up and down, seemingly unimpressed at their timidity. Mary was still smiling though, and she was the proud daughter of a knight of the realm, despite her overwhelming fear. "We hail to thee, 'o gracious King," She began to sing, "To thee, each day, our tributes bring." She smiled up at the officer, cheekily but with those eyes with betrayed her true fear and the sadness of her resignation.

The militia officer paused and said, “Grab them. Your pious display…” he said, his voice hoarse with adrenaline, “Is only proper, since you are daughters of the Devil. Lock them up!”

Four others moved in and were grabbing them, hauling them up to yank them towards a van. Through the smoke though, they heard yelling, and the militiamen’s eyes bugged out of their heads at the sight of the bayonet advance.

“Militia--form a skirmish line,” shouted the officer. “Shields--up! Hold on my command!” as they were forming up, he took a deep breath, raised his megaphone and shouted, “Halt! Identify yourselves!” He said then out of the side of his mouth to a corporal, “Get on the radio, contact the Hussars, tell them there are foreign troops coming down the street at 12 O Clock down Embassy Row!”

What the Frankenlisch ambassador and personnel would see would be about 30 militia in riot gear, with heavy plastic shields and visored helmets starting to form up along the road. Behind them, about a dozen more were picking their way through fallen protestors, but many of them had dropped people they were ushering towards the waiting van to form a defensive line at their commander’s shouted orders.

Mediaman Embassy

Farther down the street, unaware of this development, the militia were managing things in a more orderly way since the protestors, who in this case were mostly made up of civil rights activists and ecumenical activists, were more orderly. People like Gregor were using proper etiquette and were trying to be orderly.

However, a disturbance began.

To the shaven headed militiaman talking to Gregor, this was unintelligible gibberish. “Stay out of this! Stay on your embassy grounds!” he snapped.

“I think they wanted to let us go onto the embassy grounds…” offered Sam.

“You’re a Dengali, huh?” said the militiaman, “So this ain’t your damned embassy. So shut up.”

Chuckian Embassy

What was your name again by the way?

Lieutenant Fabian said, “I’m going to call for a Ministry of Justice official to do that, sir. I appreciate your courtesy and candour. We can wait for that.”

This was not hard to arrange; a Ministry of Justice official who bowed and introduced himself as Tobias Lareth. “We can clear this up. I’m glad you gentlemen are safe,” he added, glancing at the journalists. “Our Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a public statement for you, and there will probably be a press briefing within the next couple of days.”

Down farther along Embassy Row, however there were sounds of smoke grenades going off, hoses firing up, and shouts and banging of batons on shields. The calm demonstrated by Fabian and Lareth were perhaps more due to their experience than the situation being genuinely a calm one.

“And, gentlemen, I think we should go inside,” said Lareth. “I don’t think the situation is under control yet…”

“Hold on,” said Fabian crisply. He listened to his radio headset. He suddenly barked, “Trouble down the street, foreign troops..”

“Wait what?” exclaimed one of the men.

“Platoon, let’s advance down the street, follow me,” said Fabian. The APCs’ engines rumbed and the vehicles began to roll forward with the troops on foot going with them. In the opposite direction, two vans with militia stenciling on their sides.

Fineberg International Airport,
Fineberg, New Edom

“Attention!” barked an officer of the Royal Cavalry Guards. Security was intense; flashing lights and searchlights, soldiers everywhere, roadblocks everywhere greeted the arrival of the King-Emperor and Queen-Empress as they strode off their plane.

“Welcome back, Your Majesty,” said Count Falk, the Royal Guard Commander, saluting neatly.

“What are you doing here?” said Elijah IV, staring at him. ‘Isn’t there a riot going on?”

“I...wanted to greet you personally, sir…” exclaimed Falk.

“If there’s a riot going on, what are you doing here?” repeated Elijah. “You should be with your unit. I’m not a film star, I don’t need you here. Go.”

Falk, flushing, saluted again, and turned to depart. Queen Mara sighed and tightened her lips but said nothing. The two Monarchs got into their car and were driven towards Betharan Palace.

Walking into the palace, Elijah sent Count Domris to inform the Council of Ministers to wait on his arrival, and went into a drawing room to meet with Princess Jocasta. Queen Mara, her eyes full of tears of tension and worry, fled to her private chambers, sweeping her little Pommeranian into her arms and showering him with kisses as ladies in waiting and staff solicitously surrounded her.

The Imperial Advisor was still beautiful, but a plumpness had arrived around her body;s he was softer and more cushiony, the baby weight still upon her. She wore a dark green silky dress, had a gold cross around her neck, and her dark hair was piled up.

“Before you start…” began Jocasta.

“Yes. i start the conversations,” said Elijah curtly. In contrast to her, he wore a Naval uniform of dark blue in a double breasted jacket. “You do not make policy.”

“No,” said Jocasta. “But cousin, someone had to say something. I was right! We can see it, the bombs that went off prove that I was right.”

“Nevertheless.” Elijah sat down and gestured to her to do likewise. “You are far too uncontrolled in your passions, Jocasta. You are controlled in some ways, but in others...you need to learn patience and thoughtfulness. Few things in government require an immediate response. I am thinking about this letter from Emperor Nathan. “ he showed it to her.

Jocasta read it carefully. “He doesn’t want our glorious allies there...but they are content to have Albert there?”

“Vorindeum is family,” said Elijah. His fingers twitched near a pocket but he had no cigarettes. It was merely instinct. “I have been called from my hunt for this nonsense. I wish you had been able to handle matters better, but I will make this very clear...I expect better from you in future. My son is not going to be able to do much for many years.”

Jocasta took a deep breath. “I am undermined by Lalery and Prince Enoch. You know this.”

“I need Enoch. Lalery…” Elijah waved a hand. “We shal see. Why do you think Nathan sent me this letter?”

Jocasta considered and then her eyes lit up. “Cassandra. Nathan is being urged to distrust us because of her. When Sophia was more active...she sought our influence and our support. Cassandra is entirely for the monarchy having only familial concerns, led by her.”

“Ah, Cassandra…” Elijah sighed. “Do you know that if we had not had our 3rd Civil War and its results, i would have married her?”

Jocasta caught her breath. “What?”

“Oh yes,” said Elijah. “She would have been my first choice. You the second.” he smiled faintly, ar are enough sight that she gaped at him. “I was delighted with her when I first met her. Such a passionate and powerful woman. I desired her. Fire to my ice. What a queen she would have made! A direction for Ghant and New Edom that would have been birthed here. When I saw her at my birthday, my lust for her was like a fire within me. If I had not been a Christian man, I would have taken her on the table then and there with the blood still on my sword. No doubt she would have fought me. What a woman...she would have fought me on many things, and the rutting reunions of our union would have been glorious.” He appeared amused,. “What...you did not think I had passions? I do.”

Jocasta was shocked, uncomfortable, but fascinated. “Her...and me...why didn’t you though?”

“As I said, my dear Jocasta, I do have passion. But they are ruthlessly controlled. I indulge them for capybaras and farming, for the Navy...but I am devoted to duty above all things. And my honour.” Elijah stared at her intently. “And that is what I want from you. I want you to focus on your duty above all things. So it is better for you to be married to Michael, who by good fortune adores you, and for me to be married to Mara. For the good of our country. You will back me entirely in public matters and wait for my word on any public developments in future. If you do this, then I will be glad to need your support. But if you do not, I will remove you entirely. Do you understand me?”

“Yes…” Jocasta was flushed and happy even as she was chastised. “Entirely.”

“Now…” Elijah sighed and closed his eyes. “Let us deal with this crisis.”
