In memory of the co-founder of Nabong, Ramirez, and Tan, killed in a terrorist attack while visiting New Edom to oversee the opening of the company's branch there, this week's edition of Fashion on Fire looks into the history behind one of the Confederation's fashion icons, Jasper Nabong.

Jethro maintained a holding pattern while waiting clearance from the tower at Fineberg; it was his second request, but he had yet to receive a response.

It had been a hard time for Stephanie; seeing Maria Victoria in the recovery room after surgery to excise the shrapnel brought tears in her eyes and prayers in her lips.

Her husband, Alfred, saw things differently; barely-restrained rage showed in his face, and the urge to personally murder those responsible violently could be seen in his body language.

Homofront Safe House
Fineberg, New Edom

Sub-Commandant Lesham was still just recovering, and so she shuddered and turned away from her rescuers, not sure if it was a dream or some Homofront trick. Staff Sergeant Ashton murmured, “Don’t worry about clothing for no, look at her, she’s all bruised and welted up, it may harm her. Just cover her with a blanket, get her….” he looked around with loathing for a moment, “Out of this damned place.”

Apart from normal supplies found in the basement’s rooms, such as office supplies, cleaning equipment, storaged items like extra chairs and whatnot, there were also, within another locked room, a supply of foreign currency from around the Region (roughly 100,000 in Edomite Coppers, 270,000 in Noviteran credits, and a variety of others) there were also some changes of clothing, more sex toys, and gay, lesbian and transgender pornography and film equipment.

In the upper area, other than the paperwork and maps, it might have just been a normal office. A laptop was found under the desk. Captain Radu began to help put items into plastic bags or containers to prepare them for movement.

Colonel Zadek nodded to Captain Zhukov. “Alright, status reports by section.”

“Some of the civilians in the area are concerned and curious, there are people talking at the road blocks we set up, but I don’t think many understand. Oh...one of my boys had a journalist come round, asking questions,” Commandant Bajith reported. “I’ve instructed the sergeant to feed him a line of nonsense about public works dangers and steer him towards a civil servant who I’ve got in pocket.”

“No sign of any enemy activity from the drone,” reported the Air liaison.

Zadek nodded and gestured to a signals officer. “Hnad me the handset.”

“Yessir,” said the junior officer.

“Captain Fabian, start to move in a support platoon and escort in intelligence officers,” ordered Zadek. He switched channels, and said, “Ares 2-1, Zeus 3-2, Apollo 3-1 inbound on your position. Gather all intel and bring prisoners to the front lobby. Place corpses from upper floor on rooftop, corpses from basement in front lobby.”

Zadek then turned back to Zhukov. “So far so good. Let us leave nothing to chance though. Once we have moved out the prisoner and the hostage and intel, corpses and all, and have them back at base, we can break out the champagne.”

He then ordered Fabian and Perna to see to making ready to escort the units out. Commandant Bajith was ordered to be ready to move in Municipal Mlitia afterwards to clean up, secure round casings and all the aftermath work.

Bara Province, New Edom
South Lopenfort Yeomanry
Lieutenant Colonel Lord J.Featherwick Commanding

With standards fluttering, the South Lopenfort Yeomanry began their ride to Saint Joseph, where they were to take up their positions. Atop their well-bred horses, the stout yeomen of that regiment had set out from Harbourtown in good spirits, singing comradely songs and chatting cheerfully to one another. After several hours on the road, the fatigued cavalrymen were reminded of their weeks of training, of twelve-hour route marches and all the discomforts of such a long ride. However, despite their wavering morale, they retained good discipline and followed the proud example of Lord Featherwick. Featherwick, with his batman, Corporal Lafley, led the march atop Saxondale who was showing little sign of flagging.

However, as time progressed further, the regimental smiths accrued more and more orders for horseshoe fitting and the men grew more and more weary. Even the strong horses of the regiment began to wilt and it was clear that the march would have to be finished the following day. As the regiment began to encamp on a field, picked by the agrarian Colonel Featherwick as he recognised it as public and unfarmed, a patrol was sent out to find fodder for the horses and cooking ingredients for the men.

Lieutenant Ada Warden, the senior Lieutenant in her squadron, led her troop of sixty-four men at a brisk trot along a country road, lined each side with softly waving fields of crops. The agricultural lands of New Edom were truly beautiful and, no matter what the views were of the Edomites, there was no denying that they kept a pretty country, even after multiple civil wars. Warden's black mare bounced neatly with each step as the column grew closer to a village ahead, distinctive against the beautiful sunset. With her tall and athletic stature, Warden cut a dashing figure atop her mare; indeed, many had called Warden beautiful, for many it would be pointless to try their luck. Warden was a lesbian. She had joined the Imperial Army when she was but seventeen, which was the average for an Imperial Army officer. In those days, the official policy was don't ask, don't tell: if you were homosexual or bisexual, you kept it to yourself or risked being discharged or relegated to colonial or reserve units. Warden had stuck to the rules and had been rewarded for it, she was a Second Lieutenant only seven years before when the rules were changed, when she was finally given the right to speak the truth about her sexuality, she had been compensated for that act of oppression with a promotion and a choice of regiment. She had decided on the South Lopenfort Yeomanry because she liked their dress uniforms, there was no other factor involved, she would have been quite ashamed to admit that to her comrades, however.

Finally, with the Edomite settlement close at hand, Warden raised her arm as a signal to halt. Her troop came to an immediate stop. She twisted in her saddle and snapped off some quick orders. "Sergeant-Major Edsam, set pickets if you please. A, through C sections, come with me." Warden turned back to the village, assured that 24 men rode wth her, and trotted forward daintily. The Imperial troopers watched the denizens of the settlement with keen interest, Warden was simply interested in finding a local leader. Back home there would be two: the parish priest, be he Christian or Andyist, and a bailiff, operating under the jurisdiction of the local lord. Warden and her men simply entered the village slowly, in the vague hope that a local would be interested enough to direct them.

Prime Ministers Residence
Conference Room

“We can take them tonight sir, a black site, no one will be the wiser….getting to the bottom of the Anarchist conspiracy.”
“The King is the one who signs death warrants.”

“As Chair of the rainbow committee under the Santiago Treaty this is your obligation and we’ve come a long way. Not to mention the King has yet to assign a Chieftain to the issue of Homofront.”

“Yes…but they are meant to have the authority to root out problems in the military.”

“Point taken.” The aide a representative of the Interior Minister looked at the PM. Anarchists, those of the Pink Brigade had decided that they would be taking the fight to the new Edomites. The plan was that they would have a ship and would travel to Cornellia. The Mcnernian Royal Constabulary and the Security Service were on their trail. Though one had to wonder who their patron was, to get such weapons and get back up, Anarchists had taken a hit since Emissary Park with their violence against the Church. The Church had seen an increase in believers with the desire being to be a part of something. People were considering the liberal democratic mindset of the past, to be something of the past.

“Make sure its done quickly and quietly….and make sure no one knows we are going after Homofront, it cant be public.”

“Yes Prime Minister.”

S.Coast of McNernia
South Coast of Erins Bight Region

“A fishing boat….”
The two agents looked from their place on the hill at the village, it had been by and large abandoned as some areas had been. Ancient estates, houses gone to ruin. Their names preserved in the archives of the Empire for service, treason or nothing at all. The people had faith in the security services as the Parliament was seen as cowardly when the nation had been invaded and the communists had run amok. Especially here.
Two Security Service agents had established a blind for survaillence of the stone farmhouse a decent sized one of two stories made of the rock that had come from the surrounding area. There were of course other houses further down the road that were in worse shape. In the blind the two men had a view towards the house and the shore. Through a pair of large scopes.

“Big one, looks like an ocean going vessel.”

“Not interregional….” There was a light on in the things wheelhouse as it headed for the shore. It launched a boat and sent a light. From a second-floor window there was a response.
“Morse code…. We are son we were late….”

There was movement in the house as the cell members came to meet the boat with supplies….
“Ob 1 to control….”

“Control here.”

“We have a cell of six on the move though there is a boat…”

“Roger that Ob-1 Stand by…”

A drone was deployed, the turboprop machine was HAME, High Altitude Medium endurance, a RAF machine but flown under the auspices of the Security Service. Used to support the counter intelligence missions in addition to Black Operations. Officially Mcnernia was ambivalent about the issue of LGBT rights at best, at worst there was the Low Churches that were demanding that the Sodomites be stoned. Mcnernias parliament was in a deadlock whenever the issue came up. The intelligence officers in the control room looked at the screen. The officer looked impassive with pursed lips.

“Alert the Admiralty, we need someone to trail that boat, somehow it will tell us what we need to know.”

“Yes Ma’am…right away ma’am.” The aide at her side left the control panel for the drone that was still keeping an eye on the boat and headed for the offices of a Naval Attache to Task Force Rainbow.

The young commander looked up from the report. He was hesitant about being assigned to a part of the Security Services that no one knew about. He looked at the request.
“Ill see if the Navy can spare anyone.” Being an aide to Admiral Ralton meant he was a natural choice for a liaison from the Navy to a force that was combatting something that in nominal terms should be supported by Mcnernia. But there had been a change, Anarchists, Militant gays would have to be dealt with. They were all godless heathens.

At Sea, Erinsbight Region
HM Submarine Solitude

“Message sir…” The commander looked at the readout at his station. The submarine was on alert, heading out for a nominal exercise, inexperienced special forces on board. Not good when a TOP SECRET Order was handed down to the ship. Fresh out of bootcamp and Selection for the SBS and now heading into uncharted waters so to speak.
“Thank you Lieutenant.” The big nuclear submarine was quiet….

“Helm make my course 180 and increase speed to flank. Depth 150 meters.”

“Right away sir.” The helm officer complied and the Lanchev class boat responded with a will heading for the designated coordinates. Diving down from periscope depth. Lanchev class boats were few and far between with Mcnernia being one of the few nations operating them in the world that truly mattered.

Miguel G. Quiñones
Port of Tagbilaran, Tagbilaran, BH

It was a terrible thing to learn that Miguel would have to bury his son. Mark Jason was his only son, and learning that he died in a terrorist attack did a number on his composure. Martin was only ten, Mark's son with a paralegal who lost her parents in the Riots and her own life in a drunk-driving accident only two years ago, leaving Mark--and now, Miguel--as his next of kin.

The calls of condolence didn't end when Miguel and Martin took the ferry to Cebu; Miguel had retired as Chief of the Tagbilaran PD, and that led to quite a reputation even in the District of Humabon.

Seeing Arnold unconscious left Edwin wondering how it all happened; he had gone to church before the old man did, but only because he had research into a dissertation that couldn't wait any longer.

To pass the time, Edwin chatted up one of the nurses; she was quite the attractive one, and Dad kept asking for grandkids.

SENDER: Fionn Cormac Cleary, Minister of External Affairs
SUBJECT: RE: Your Recent Message
Dear Mr Mayer,

The Greater Ardokian Empire is a country which has the upmost respect for human rights and would never harm a single hair on anyone's head. You can be assured the staff within the former Solisian Embassy will recieve the finest Ardokian hospitality once they vacate the grounds of their former embassy. The word former is important here, as the Solisian diplomatic mission has officially been expelled and the embassy has reverted to Ardokian control. Hark! Fear not! All Solisian property within the embassy shall promptly be returned. Also, Her Excellency the Minister of Economic Affairs might come around a bit later to personally deliver some food to the staff in the Solisian embassy. We wouldn't let them starve. Such generosity and compassion!

Again, we hear the lies about one of His Grand Imperial Majesty's recent performances. No christians were harmed in the making of that concert, I can assure you. The greatest special effects, or at least good enough to fool you, were utilised by the clever boffins at the Alistaire Moriarty Entertainment Company (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Moriarty Corporation). So please cease repeating those defamatory comments. Many thanks.

His Grand Imperial Majesty's Moriarty Foundation is an international non-profit charitable organisation which stands firmly against slavery in all its various pernicious forms. I am frankly shocked that you, dear Mr Mayer, would threaten to sell Ardokian nationals on a slave market! A most cruel and barbaric thing to say, nay, do! Are these the kinds of countries New Edom hangs out with?! Slavers?! You have the nerve to criticise Alistaire Killian Moriarty, the most kindest and most compassionate man in the world, yet openly admit to your crimes against humanity!? Just more proof of why Ardoki is destined to rule the world!

On other matters, His Grand Imperial Majesty would like to extend an invitation to Emperor JC. An invitation to a song battle. The details can be arranged. But if Emperor JC wins, the Solisian diplomatic personnel will immediately get to return to Solisia (and the Ardokians in Solisia must comply with their eviction and return home). If Grand Emperor Moriarty wins, the Solisian diplomatic personnel must immediately surrender and leave the embassy to be detained (with no retaliation from Solisia or its allies). So? Sound good?

In the upper area, other than the paperwork and maps, it might have just been a normal office. A laptop was found under the desk. Captain Radu began to help put items into plastic bags or containers to prepare them for movement.

"Pack it up fellas." Said Sergeant Lyubomir as he packed evidence into plastic bags and containers on the upper floor, they found files, maps and foreign currency in those rooms, plus the weapons that they seized from the dead suspects, it would be enough evidence to jail the captured prisoner.
Various Stojamian and Rover Team fellers bagged the bodies of the dead suspects and placed them on the rooftops.
After that, the team in the basement packed some evidence of LGBT+ Porn, filming equipment, foreign currency and various papers and files.
They bagged the bodies of the suspects near the basement and placed them on the front lobby.
Sub-Commandant Lasham was covered with a pretty large blanket, to cover her privates and Sergeant Miroslav offerred her clothing a few times, although his partner in the area didn't agree with that, the prisoner was escorted and guarded while her head was covered with a black bag as Lasham was held near the front door.
After finishing all the evidence gathering and corpse bagging, they came out of the building, expecting a warm reaction.

Colonel Zadek nodded to Captain Zhukov. “Alright, status reports by section.”

“Some of the civilians in the area are concerned and curious, there are people talking at the road blocks we set up, but I don’t think many understand. "I am sure of that, once we are done, it will mark the triumph of the Stojamian-Edomite relationships. I am sure of that. And let me tell you this, I think that the Stojamian embassy might be rebuilt. You heard that in the 80s-70s there was a Stojamian embassy yeah? Well it was destroyed by a bombing and shooting attack from Edomite Nationalists, that's what the story should be and then just it disappeared into the trash can of history. Communism was since defeated in Stojam, and now I guess political relations can become re-established again." Said Captain Zhivkov.
He prepared for the moment the troops will come back to base to show his home made Rakija he made himself.
He planned to give it to the troops or Colonel Zadek, depends on what he is gonna do later.

Frankenlisch, Kingdom of Frankenlisch
Department of State Security

With an audible rush of air, the door to Walter Fox's office swung open. "Excellent news, Minister!" cried Sir Ian Jefferson between breathless pants, he had run all the way to Fox's office across the entire department. In his scarred right hand he brandished a manilla folder. He closed the door behind him. With a wide smile on his elderly face, Sir Jefferson placed the folder down on Fox's desk and sat opposite the Secretary for State Security. He had the countenance and stature of a schoolchild, pleased with a piece of work.

"This is..." Fox spoke in surprise as he fingered through the assorted documents. "The location of a safehouse? The identity of twenty-two members?" He looked up, his face contorted with shock, "Ian, how did you get this?"

Sir Ian Jefferson tapped his nose, still grinning. "My contacts in Cunaris," he admitted, "Several of our agents implanted within the Civil Service in that area have been monitoring this building for months, they always believed that it was a terrorist hideout and now they have given us all the proof we need to raid it."

"The Purple Sisters, eh? One of our old friends, aren't they?"

"Yes, Minister." Sir Jefferson nodded, "All our intelligence points towards it being an LGBT-rights activist group turned terrorist. As far as we know, only women are allowed membership and it has an extreme lesbian bias. We have actually found them in connection to the Fort Serenta kidnappings but there is little proof."

Fox leaned in, interested. The Fort Serenta kidnappings were a controversial event a year prior, four female servicemen had disappeared from the Imperial Military base at Fort Serenta, two of them Army officers, the other two pilots in the Imperial Air Service. The events had spawned dozens of conspiracy theories and, despite an investigation by the police, the special branch, every branch of the Imperial Intelligence Network, the State Security Service, the Military Police and the Army and Air Service, there had been few discoveries besides a strong case for kidnapping rather than desertion. It had baffled not only the government and security services but the nation as a whole and the internet was awash with theories and mad hypotheses as to what had occurred that dark May night.

"Sir Jefferson," Fox took the initiative, "My plan is to do this without bloodshed. We cannot afford to give up such an opportunity. We have the basic identities for every Purple Sister affiliated with this safehouse. I want you to get our agents and members of Special Branch to sweep in quickly, either tomorrow or as early as tonight, and arrest as many of these names as possible. Then we simply walk into the safehouse and sweep it for information and equipment."

"Very good, Minister. I will give the orders immediately. I shall have Field Intelligence Group Nine helicoptered over to Cunaris as soon as possible to raid the safehouse. And perhaps we should give our Cossack allies some action too?"

Fox smiled, "Yes, ask them, I think they might like that..."

”Overlord”
Military District of Fineberg
Fineberg,. New Edom

The convoy bearing the combined special ops team, their rescued operative, and the prisoner along with captured intel was loaded up and sped off towards the MDF, and the militia and Army covered their withdrawal. The Army would provide security for a more in depth intelligence sweep that would include investigating the walls and other rooms in the building.

Soon they drove through the barricades to the Military District and into the Special Operations zone, where they were greeted by excited comrades. The field hospital team quickly moved on both Lesham and the prisoner.

Lesham had wept and prayed a bit along the way. While she was of course distressed at being held prisoner, however, and had been tortured and humiliated, and had feelings, she was nevertheless a tough woman, not made of tissue paper, and holding the blanket to her thanked her rescuers. “I shall light candles for you all, and remember you in my prayers,”s he promised.

“Not one casualty, many of theirs,” said Colonel Zadek, who strode out to the vehicle bay area with some of the staff. “That is what I like to hear. Sub-Commandant, I am sorry and cannot imagine your ordeal at the hand of those scum, but I am glad that a gallant officer has been saved and may return to her duties when you have been pronounced recovered, of course.”

“There is little, sir, that will keep me from vengeance,” said Sub-Commandant Lesham. She turned away, for tears had filled her eyes again, and she was weak from the effects of the flash bang and the adrenaline and her torments. “But the doctors…”

“You must obey the medics,” said Colonel Zadek. He watched as she was helped off by a gurney with two medics. Meanwhile, Diamond was still gagged and secured and would be guarded well and only attended in a cell.

“Gentlemen, i want to tell you all: Well done. And hopefully the intelligence will also be valuable as well, and move us closer to breaking the enemy’s cell system and destroying their opportunities for attack. Anything you’d like to say, Captain Zhukov?”

Betharan Palace
Fineberg, New Edom

The Royal Master of Offices had arrived at the Queen-Empress residence at Betharan Palace. His sleek dark blue Nexus crawled up a driveway reinforced with pink Roman gravel, and one of the Royal Ostlers received the ekeys and drove it to a hidden garage.

Around him, in this secluded part of the Palace, distant from the public, the noise of the city only a faint buzz, it appeared to be a haven. The plants, trees, and shrubs were radiantly lush. Purple, blue, and yellow flowers were everywhere: Little purple ones clustered in the tree, yellow big vase-like in plants on the ground. Nearby, there was an amazing assortment of perfectly manicured plants, statues, and swimming pool. A quartet of naked servants were tending the plants, sweeping the walkway, raking debris from the swimming pool.

Prince Enoch Tubal-Cain wore a white cotton suit and a crimson dress shirt. Dark hairy hands hinted at a similarly hirsute but neat body beneath his clothing. Raven hair was styled short and neat. He was trim and tall but not tightly toned. His eyes were brown, set in a face which was on the long side and had hard features. There was a tobacco scent to him as he often smoked fine, high quality cigarettes that were tailor made in New Othman. His shoes were brown leather shoes with gold embellishments. The leather was so fine that it seemed more like a sock than a shoe.

A valet, a slim naked slightly balding man with a dark olive tan and with petals painted on his bare skin, bowed as the Master of Office began to ascend the steps into the Queen-Empress’s Wing, which was called the Pantocrator Wing.

“Your Excellency,” said the valet.

“Nathan,” said Prince Enoch. “Where is she?”

“In the New Kitchen, Excellency,” said the valet.

“Thank you.”

The kitchen was a giant room that spawned a preparation area, a small eating area. The roof curved in a partial circle. There was a casual dining area with couches and thick, colorful Haranese rugs. The low dining table was made of dark mahogany wood to seat a dozen people. The kitchen had big work surfaces. The two story high floor to ceiling sliding glass doors opened an entire wall to the view of the pool. On the roof and here and there Enoch could see members of the Royal Protection Service wearing sunglasses, three piece suits, and carrying sidearms and carbines.

There, in the kitchen, were the Queen-Empress, along with two of her ladies in waiting and her handmaiden, Tegan. The ladies included Countess Sharra the Elder and Mrs. Dahlia Kiron. The courtiers and the Queen-Empress wore sundresses of various length and they were curled up on couches drinking icy drinks and laughing and talking as they watched a screen. The maidservant, Tegan, was a slim, nude, fair haired Elwe girl who stood, leaning a bit on the back of Mara’s couch, hip curving out. Mara was rocking and clapping her hands and lip synching with the video they were watching.

“Enoch, Enoch...have you heard this?” said Mara. The young Queen-Empress, as always, startled his heart. Some might have thought it was the lush, sweet body, the lovely smiling friendly face, but it was not these; it was the woman who owned them. He took a deep breath.

“I have not. Majesty. Ladies,” said Enoch.

“Well, listen to it. I mean...this is the kind of modern shit that just dominates WorldVision these days. It’s a parade of freaks. Every lyric is, you can bet, just, like papa. Little real poetry, all vagaries and broad sentiments that just appeal to uneducated and the international market. Like…” she threw up her hands and the two ladies in waiting smiled, shaking their heads. “What are most of these songs even about? At least with Moriarity we know, right?”

“Well,” he observed, “It is a trend for popular music, to be sure. I suspect it’s just that we don’t like it.”

Mara nodded. “Exactly. But, you know...I have done flash mobs before, I’ve performed, I mean it’s one of the two things I would have done, probably, if I had not been an heir to the throne after poor David...had his unfortunate decision...and you know, other than Botany, my first love? Performing!” she high fived the other women, who seemed a little uncertain as to how to do it. “And I’ve got such a good chance of winning! Listen to what this Shrailleeni article said: they described Moriarty’s performance, apart from being terrible diplomacy, as "derivative, uninspired, and cartoonish."”

“Oh yes. At all the family gatherings and so on,” said Prince Enoch with a smile. “Before you go on,” he said, holding up a hand, “The King-Emperor wanted me to tell you that he doesn’t think you should answer Moriarty’s message positively. As in, he thinks you really must say no.”

Mara paused the video on the screen. “What? Why not?”

“For one reason,” Enoch sat in a chair facing her, “It would set of precedent of placing our foreign policy on the success or failure of a stage performance.”

“You think I’d lose?” said Mara with a hurt look.

“The other reason is this: who would judge it? One of those international performance committees? They overwhelmingly come from left leaning liberal nations. All Moriarty would have to do is give them all propaganda about how we ‘hate the days’ and that would be it. The majority of them are Anti-Christian decadents.” Prince Enoch explained.

“How is it any dumber than other things done to win international face gaining?” demanded Mara.

“Well…” Prince Enoch considered. He took out his cigarette case and then put it back. “The problem is that no one really respects Moriarty for doing this sort of thing. In fact, people strongly suspect that as the head of state, his people have no choice but to vote his music top of the charts and applaud it. Some of our people who were trapped in his embassy here swore that they made them listen to…” he nodded his chin at the TV, “That song on perpetual loop during the 24 hours they were kept there. Some of them swear they still hear it in their sleep.”

“But...okay I know I said to Elijah that I would let him lead in defense and foreign polciy issues, but this was a message addressed to me!” protested Mara.

“Well...not entirely. He sent a similar message to Emperor J.C.” said Enoch reluctantly.

“What!” Mara’s face fell.

“Yes. So I’m afraid that...it has nothing to do with your talents. It’s just an opportunity to show up a foreign head of state and buy time.”

Mara looked down a moment, looked at each of the other women in the room, and then back at Enoch. “Well, this really shits in my millet.”

“Yes.” Prince Enoch said, “And he didn’t even write you directly himself. It’s not really respectful. So...we thought this response might be suitable.” He slipped a letter out of his pocket and handed her the envelope.

Mara read it.

From the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs

Cormac Cleary, Minister of External Affairs of the Government of the Greater Ardokian Empire

Dear Minister,

Her Imperial Majesty Mara the First has been consulting with her advisors on the matter of a song duel. It is her consideration at this time to that this is a very eccentric way to settle matters of international policy. It is not clear, for instance, who would judge this contest. Her Majesty also heard a rumour that you had sent a similar offer to Emperor JC. Was the Grand Emperor intending to musically battle his way through the leaders of the Imperion Coalition one by one?

Regardless, Her Majesty proposed a possible solution. New Edom’s government would consider re-opening the possibility of discussing the issue of homosexual rights and freedoms if you would, as a good gesture, permit the Solisian embassy staff to leave their embassy, immediately go to an international airport and fly home without interruption.

I have the honour to be,
Hosidius Geta,
Minister of Foreign Affairs

Mara considered. “Well, it’s a nice enough letter. Do you think they’ll accept?”

“It depends on what they really want,” said Enoch. “But it doesn’t hurt to take negotiations in another direction. And there are lots we can consider at this stage of things.”

“I won’t deny that I’m disappointed,” sighed Mara. “But...probably just a fantasy, right?”

“Right.” Enoch said. He smiled. “Well...I won’t further disturb your relaxation.”

Overlord
Military District of Fineberg, New Edom

"There is a few things I'd like to say. Good job to all of you. You guys proved once again that with cooperation and teamwork we can do anything. You rescued an important officer from the Homofront scum, who are known for their degenerate brutality and that's not just a thing you can overlook, I am looking forward in the future to assist New Edomite forces against Homofront scum. We now have room to celebrate, but before we do that. I'd like to give you my alternative choice for a medal, still a highly appreciated gift to some." Said Captain Zhivkov as he took a few bottles of what seemed to be an Alcoholic beverage, he then said, "This is homemade Rakija I made myself, took some time but I did it back in the mainland, don't worry these are fresh things. I would like to give out to a few people who did outstandingly in the operation, you are all appreciated although there are some people inside here that did outstanding work. The first I would like to give to Colonel Zadek, it's very good for weddings and generally happy events. Second I would like to give to Sergeant Lybomir and the third to Sergeant Miroslav, and the fourth to Staff Sergeant Ashton and the fifth to Captain Radu...." He said as he start giving out the homemade bottles, he gave the a few to various officers and ended that in 7 bottles.
He then said, "Alright, now after I've given my gifts, we can go outside and break out the champagne!"

Frankenlisch, Kingdom of Frankenlisch
King Edward I, Royal Train
En route to Westonland

Servants entered the King's Carriage from the previous carriage, five of them entered in total. Four bore Kingdom Silver trays bedecked with little sandwiches, cakes, pastries scones. The fifth servant pushed a stainless steel trolley, decorated with polished bronze; the trolley carried china cups and saucers along with teapots and coffee jugs. There was minimal service, those dining were expected to help themselves, the servants only duty was to pour drinks and take requests; for the most part, the five footmen served as extravagant human decoration.

Princess Sarah picked her luncheon with a precision that was the height of politeness, selecting a tiny plate with two salmon sandwiches and another with a slice of Caroline Cake. A servant poured her tea for her very neatly and it was stirred with milk from the Royal Grythshead Dairy and two small lumps of sugar from the Vionna-Frankenlischian colony of Owaya. She then proceeded to ruin her previous good etiquette by scoffing the sandwiches without remorse while her father was still pointing out his selection to a footman. The servants seemed annoyed, Larry Tristram was shocked, the King was clearly amused but made a show of disapproval.

"So, Mister Vehr," Sarah spoke between bites which seemed too large for her small mouth, "What brings you all the way to Frankenlisch?" Larry Tristram, instinctively, rolled his eyes.

"Are we going to be fighting together?" She added with an amused, eager grin.

Sergeant Jayesh Navin strolled down the streets of Frankenlisch. It had been some days since he had come here, and so far there was mainly papers. Piles of them. Folders of piles. Criminal records, data, everything had to be checked. Obviously, he had taken on the additional responsibility voluntarily; he needed to prove his worth to the C.C.O.

He made his way back to the small office that the unit was given, tea in hand...

Sergeant Navin made his way through a brightly-lit tailor shop, passed by the light pine shop counter and into the back rooms. At the end of a short corridor was the office which had been allotted to the Cossack intelligence unit, a dingy yet well-equipped room that was rented by the Department of State Security, which had similar branches across the nation. Navin opened the door to find a uniformed officer of the Imperial Intelligence Service standing behind it.

The man was young, his uniform prim and proper and he held out a hand. "Captain James Bastard," he introduced, "Field Intelligence Group Nine. We're going on a mission, you and I."

To: Fionn Cormac Cleary, Minister of External Affairs; Greater Ardokian Empire.
From: Rep. Kevin Mayer; On Behalf of Emperor JC, Emperor of TECT & Imperial Marshal of the Imperion Coalition.
Subject: RE: The Solisian Issue.
Encryption: None.

Dear Mr. Cleary,

On behalf of His Imperial and Royal Majesty Emperor JC, Imperial Marshal of the Imperion Coalition, I must request a definitive answer from yourself or possibly a superior official on the agreement I previously proposed. Is the Greater Ardokian Empire's answer "Yes" or "No?" Please reply promptly to our query and understand that further attempt to downplay/sidestep the Greater Ardokian Empire's actions will be considered a definitive "No."

Before I remind the Greater Ardokian Empire of the consequences of its decision, I would like to squash this blatantly false excuse the Ardokian leadership has used in the past week to excuse their deeply troubling and inhumane treatment of their people. Firstly, even if true, the Greater Empire of Ardoki as a nation should feel ashamed of itself for having a leader perform such an act in the worst of tastes. We may be from different lands but I think most people in their right minds would see this gory snuff film as terrible taste for a form of such as music. But that's not what this was. Deny it as much as you wish, Ardokian, but any amateur editor or film studio employee can see this footage had the most minimal of video editing put into it and that its authenticity is verifiable. Upon review from the Empire's Foreign Security Department (a cyber warfare branch of the UESF, the special warfare branch of the armed forces) and an unnamed animation studio we reached out to for consultation, we will publish the findings both organizations have concluded; please see the PDF file attached to this communique for the full report. To summarize its findings, both cyber, animation, and affects experts concluded there was zero work done to the film that you proclaim there to be. Experts referred to the lack of editing imperfections (such as the lack of pixel distortion and human error many works will have that experts looking closer can see) and animation as proof that the models in the video were not "animated", "added with editing software", and "all affects on screen amounted to standard commercial quality boosting". "Models are ninety-nine percent not 'special affects'." The full report goes into detail how a studio may replicate what the video did through animation and editing techniques, but states that the Ardokian music video showed no sign of using any of the said techniques and that in fact the video looked "disturbingly low production value appearance." We invite other intelligence organizations and studios to weigh in on these findings and share their insight on whether the music video used "special affects" to display an execution or not. But lets say everyone condemning Ardoki for this music video is incorrect and your nation wishes to prove everyone wrong. Moriarty Entertainment Company, or whichever entity is in charge of editing Mr. Moriarty's videos, can prove its naysayers wrong by simply releasing the raw materials related to this music video for the world to see. Any proper business keeps records, copies, and raws for legal and resource purposes after all. So it would be incredibly simple for the production company to upload the multiple versions of the music video during its production, including the raw footage shot on set, which documents the entire progress made throughout production of the music video. Most programs timestamp every little thing too, so everyone should be able to tell when and how long these versions were worked on; even if the programs you're using don't take such timestamps, im sure the international community will be able to tell how related the two products are by simple deduction (you know, in case someone were to, say, create fake raws in an attempt to fool critics or something). So why not prove everyone incorrect by releasing everything?

Just so you remember how we've arrived to this point, before you continue your slanderous sidestepping Ardokian, your country and our Coalition are here because the Greater Ardokian Empire wishes to commit an act of war upon a nation privy to this Coalition's many privileges. You were offered a generous agreement that is more than fair to avoid war, but judging from this reply to that offer your nation isn't interested in peace. TECT, for your information, has never practiced chattel slavery; with exception to prison labor and punishments upon war-related prisoners, TECT has strictly avoided slavery even in its ancient roots. So to accuse TECT overall as being a "slaver" nation would be fundamentally incorrect. Then again, TECT frankly doesn't doesn't care what Ardoki's leadership thinks of the Empire. We as a nation, and as an extension Coalition, do what we must to survive and prosper. If that means making a few million NSD on people foolish enough to attack us in order to send a message, we have no qualms with it. Of course it's not the fact they're being sold into slavery that is the focus here; the main point is that enemies of the Coalition will face worse fates than death if they wish to challenge us on the battlefield. If you don't wish for them to be sold into slavery, we can make an even worse snuff film in your honor if you'd like instead? Or, you can accept the generous deal offered and avoid whichever retaliatory measures we will bring upon your people. But to be frank again, Ardokian, we take your outrage with our choices of repercussions with little care. If the nation known internationally for its racist, religious bigotry, and numerous ethnic genocides wishes to throw stones at those perpetrating actions against them, then maybe that nation shouldn't complain later on for living in a glass house.

So I'll ask this one last time, Ardokian - there will not be a third time nor further negotiations if the answer is no. Does your government agree to the terms presented to you earlier as they're written, or does it refuse them knowing fully the consequences being the surrender of your nation's embassy staff to Coalition authorities and the existence of a state of war between the Imperion Coalition and Greater Ardokian Empire? I implore your government to make the sound and smart decision to agree to our generous terms, otherwise this will be the last time you hear diplomatically from us until we receive the Greater Ardokian Empire's declaration of unconditional surrender. You do not wish to see what this Coalition is capable of when those daring to make an enemy out of it act against us.

Additionally, your counter-proposal to hold a... "song battle" or whatever your people deem to call it has been voiced to my Emperor, the Imperial Marshal of the Imperion Coalition. I must inform you that His Imperial & Royal Majesty the Emperor does not sing, dance, or perform other noteworthy theater acts. The closest HI&RM has come to microphone is to sing anthems in his official capacity, give interviews, and voice declarations/speeches. Regardless, HI&RM was none too pleased to hear of this "challenge." Even so, the notion of settling such volatile diplomatic scuffles with a song performance is beyond asinine - it's downright ludicrous. This is not an epic theater drama nor is it a musical genre film; this is an intense diplomatic situation where both sides are inching closer to open conflict - and your peaceful solution to standoff is to settle this on a stage. Let it be known, Ardokian, that your immature choice today has greatly offended HI&RM and this Coalition. HI&RM wished of me to explain to you that if you had delivered that response in person to him after showing such generosity to an already declared foe that you "would have been shot and the remains sent back to Ardoki without its tongue for such insolence. If they want a battle so badly then we'll fight their songs with bullets, missiles, planes and ships. Music to my ears but probably not theirs." In the future, such insolent behavior shall not be overlooked, Ardokian.

Sincerely,
Representative Kevin Mayer of TECT
HIRM Emperor JC, Imperial Marshal of the Imperion Coalition

Clothiers’ Street, Frankenlisch

Sergeant Navin made his way through a brightly-lit tailor shop, passed by the light pine shop counter and into the back rooms. At the end of a short corridor was the office which had been allotted to the Cossack intelligence unit, a dingy yet well-equipped room that was rented by the Department of State Security, which had similar branches across the nation. Navin opened the door to find a uniformed officer of the Imperial Intelligence Service standing behind it.

As he walked through the corridor, Navin had a quick flashback to when he was younger, working with the police. The cities of the Khanate were filled with backstreets and interior rooms such as these, and a huge population made finding criminals quite difficult.

He took another sip of his tea and opened the door to the office. He found the officer standing behind it.

The man was young, his uniform prim and proper and he held out a hand. "Captain James Bastard," he introduced, "Field Intelligence Group Nine. We're going on a mission, you and I."

Although the officer’s arrival was unexpected, Navin shook off the surprise, smiled, and gripped the officer’s hand in a handshake “Sergeant Jayesh Navin, Cossack Covert Operations, as I’m sure you know,” he said motioning his head towards the office. Then the second part of the officer’s sentence hit him “A mission you say? Now where to?”

En route to Westonland

The Cossacks smiled politely at Princess Sarah’s etiquette. They respectfully waited until the King had made his selection and then they chose their luncheon. Dhuval seemed nervous that he might mess something up, Minister Vehr seemed amused by the proceedings, and Major Sundar was absent-mindedly stirring his tea.

"So, Mister Vehr," Sarah spoke between bites which seemed too large for her small mouth, "What brings you all the way to Frankenlisch?" Larry Tristram, instinctively, rolled his eyes.

“Some turmoil and conflict, your Highness,” said Vehr, smiling “To be specific, the war in Lanorth and the...issues that were happening in New Edom. And some rapidly developed friendship as well”

"Are we going to be fighting together?" She added with an amused, eager grin.

“That seems to be the case, Your Highness. Our commanders in Lanorth should be speaking to one another by now”, said Vehr, still smiling.

RECIPIENT(S): Representative Kevin Mayer, Empire of Common Territories
SENDER: Fionn Cormac Cleary, Minister of External Affairs
SUBJECT: RE: Solisian Incident
Dear Representative Mayer,

As an advanced progressive nation, Ardoki is a pioneer in all areas of science, engineering, and technology. Advanced film editing software and techniques, is just some of the innovation the Alistaire Moriarty Entertainment Company is known for. It is no wonder your 'experts' thought it was genuine, Ardokians are truly ahead of the pack in the entertainment industry, thanks in no small part due to the Grand Emperor's patronage of the arts. We did reference this earlier, but you must have missed it. I sincerely apologise if I was not clear. However, I take issue at your insinuation that His Grand Imperial Majesty's performance had 'low production values'. Such a statement is not only false, but deeply offensive. Have you ever been to one of His Grand Imperial Majesty's concerts? Have you ever seen His Grand Imperial Majesty perform at the WorldVision Song Contest? If you had, you would acknowledge that he is known for the highest of production values in the business.

Now onto other business. First of all, you have explicitly threatened to enslave Ardokians in several diplomatic missives. Don't claim to be against slavery, when your very words demonstrate that your nation is one built around slavery. Secondly, perhaps if the government of Gran Chile weren't so hateful and bigoted those Chileans wouldn't have been sent to the Tolerance Camps? Did you ever think about that? The Tolerance Camps were a mistake, and unfortunately there were some deaths. But that is the past, and the Tolerance Camps were abolished due to the compassion of His Grand Imperial Majesty for all of humanity. We have Rehabilitation Centres now, which are nice places were those who commit crimes can learn to become perfect citizens in a safe and educational environment.

At least we acknowledge our error and made changes, as a progressive nation should. You just continue your slaving ways.

Now onto happier news. His Grand Imperial Majesty is a peaceful man, a man opposed to conflict and violence in all its pernicious forms. He has read your 'ultimatum' and finds it a reasonable solution to end this incident before it escalates into something neither side will be able to back down from. However, he would wish to personally speak to His Imperial and Royal Majesty JC to get further details and assurances. A conference call, perhaps? Then, once everything is finalised we shall have peace.

Letter

Dear Grand Emperor Alistair Killian Moriarty,

I will not beg nor will I humbly ask you anything; Instead, I will approach you with this letter, detailing my very call to you. This is not me acting as simply a head of state and government BUT as a fellow monarch to another.

I will repeat this not more than once.

Release the staff and allow them to return home safely [i]without harming them or conducting any other hostile action against them.

Act against them, I will hear of it and deliver to you a declaration of war.

Else, let my staff leave and I will let yours leave. Until you allow my staff to go unharmed and untouched, I will hold your staff back from seeing your country again.

Sincerely,

Queen Meriall Satarana

The weight of the days and nights spent in action began to slow down Her Majesty as she left the ruins of the largest district in one of the cities first hit by the gas attacks and made her way to the safe zone to rest and take care of other affairs while the rest of the workers and officials and volunteers remained in the city to clean up the rubble, to decontaminate the area and find survivors and locate the dead and determine how this happened and to hunt down suspects.

Soldiers accompanied Her Majesty as she walked through a massive shower that rained decontamination fluids over her NBC suit and the suits of her soldiers. They entered the zone and Her Majesty was issued a gas mask like the soldiers were. She took one and gave a few to those who did not have. They now entered a large tent where they stripped off their suits and changed into comfortable clothes and put on their fresh gas masks as there was still the risk of stray gas coming into the safe zone if the advanced decontaminant shields and the anti-chemical and anti-biological protection set up along the safe zone boundaries.

Within the safe zone, the queen realized as she was escorted to her own tent, there were hundreds of thousands of survivors. So many died and so many are missing still in and out of the city. In hours, this city was emptied, evacuated thanks to the efforts of Azen Legionnaires, Solisian police officers and military personnel, ordinary men and women and the nurses, the doctors and all other emergency workers of the city. Even they have suffered; Most especially the Azen Legionnaires and the Solisian police and military suffered heavy losses. The corpses of the women of The Home Tercio - The Guards and the ones who were a part of The Fourth Tercio - The Angels and The Serving Tercio - The Maids.

What struck the queen hard to her heart was the loss of children in the nearby schools, the deaths of newborns and other young souls in the hospitals and nurseries and most importantly, the sick and the old and the injured and the crippled residing in their homes or in the hospitals. It too struck the queen to have lost a handful of cities to gas attacks. To be attacked with weapons capable to indiscriminately killing or crippling life unlike the power and fury of artillery or bombs was something she had repeatedly forced herself to face with a firm face and body while privately when she was on her own and nobody would listen to her, she wept for the losses.

She did not do that this time; Her eyes have gotten red and tired from weeping last night and this morning. As the day here finally died to let the night live again, the queen found a seat and shared her company with her closest officials and her most trusted military officers.

She confided in them bitterly,

"I do not approve of the attacks. Neither do I approve of the losses.

I have worked day and night in the city and I have seen the corpses and I have seen others die painfully, slowly and terribly to the eye and to the ear that I possess by the grace of heaven; I have witnessed the fall of a handful of our cities already to these...chemicals."

She turned her head up to all of them and stated,

"I want nothing like this again. I want my generals and my admirals to start preparing all our military forces for a state of the highest readiness and emergency. I want my officials to begin preparing for disaster levels of governance; I also want to see more communication with our allies; also I want to see no more of the Ardokians." She hardened her eyes and said, "Bring us to full. That's it."

Later, after she returned home to her capital, she replied to the woman of New Edom with an electronic mail.

To: Queen Mara, Empress of the Allied and Subject States of New Edom
CC: All Members of the Imperion
From: Queen Meriall Satarana
Encryption: Moderate

I must thank you for your support. I feel relieved about it. In addition, please allow me to give the credit you've graced me upon my people and subordinates.

For now, I must be brief. I admit I am in a grave state of grieving. My country has been struck in the southern cities with gas and I just returned home from working alongside the relief workers and the soldiers. Please forgive me if I am not able to be joyful with my reply.

Anyway, we really hope you can help us in dealing with the Ardokians by exerting pressure on them diplomatically to release my staff and to prevent war from coming. I have already sent a warning to them but I fear they will not abide and we will all be forced into conflict. So I implore you and your nation and your allies to join us and help us win back our people.

But if peace must fail and war comes tomorrow, forgive me for this but I beg you and the allies to come to aid us in fighting the Christian burners.

I am satisfied to be yours,

Queen Meriall Satarana

Meetings happened and phone calls were made as much as trips by air and sea between Nannasia and Solisia. In addition to this was the confirmation from both governments, secretly, that both the motherland and the colony would stand together in this time of emergency. Yes, it has been confirmed between Her Majesty and the head of the colony that both will stand together against Ardoki.

And to begin, Nannasia informed their motherland that they would send over three divisions from their regular army and a complete brigade of specialized troops from their crack corps of hāfu (that means: men and women of mixed race) otherwise known as, in Nannasia, the First Mixed Brigade of the Hāfu Corps. The divisions that they promised to send over from their regular armed forces were led by General Dionís Castellet. They were full strength divisions except for the third division, designated as the 15th Nannasian Division because that division had some wounded men and was also in the process of replacing some old officers.

Nannasia hoped, as much as Solisia hoped, that their men and women would arrive in Solisia within reason. It was this way already because as events unfolded, the Nannasians anticipated that the future will not be in favor of their motherland and ordered their own armed forces to be ready to deploy and to be prepared for long distance movements.

It was estimated that it would take 5-10 hours for the men and the women to travel from Nannasia's closest cities to Solisia by air and it was estimated that it would take 6 days, at most, for the ships to transfer all their heavy equipment and all the other things they needed to fight for the motherland from Nannasian ports to Solisian ones.

Over 3494 nautical miles was the most accurate estimate that the Nannasians and Solisians were aware of for the ships. It would be wise to equip the Nannasian colonial soldiers with Solisian equipment, ammunition, weapons and vehicles once they arrive, a few officials suggested, but a handful of military officers from both lands stated that it was best to let the Nannasians use their own things when they get there; it was also a point made by the officers of both militaries that the Nannasians had to adjust to the climate and train for the operations their commanders wanted them to perform well while they waited for their things to come over from their homeland. The decision was finalized by the Queen herself: The Nannasians would use their own things for war and they would train and adjust to operating conditions in the motherland.

On the other hand, the Nannasians would also send several aircraft and exactly 3 submarines, 2 frigates and several ships for carrying the needed things of those divisions, for carrying several helicopters meant to assist the Solisians and Nannasians as they fight any hostiles while at sea and for replenishing and refueling other ships.

In the end, there would be significant Nannasian assistance towards Solisia and Solisia would answer the Empire of Ardoki not with many words but with these actions; yes, the Solisian Commonwealth (in reference to the union between Nannasia and Solisia as colony and master) would not be weak. Instead, the Commonwealth shall stand and if it must, it shall fight.

Lists of suspects were in the hands of several officers of the Solisian police and the assisting military police officers. Joining them in the hunt were Nannasian police officers who were in Solisia or have arrived in Solisia days or hours before the attacks. These men and women went after, in less than four hours as estimated, significant leaders and symbols of the LGBT+ community in the Empire. In that time, at least 46 people were arrested. Among those arrested were Hayate Fidelia Geiszler (leader of the Sun's Union of Deviants), Itzara Vreni Heinz (mistress of the Network of Lesbian Clubs), Yumiko Liselotte Simmon (female president of the Union of Solisian and Nannasian LGBTQ) and most importantly, the sister of the leader of the Lesbian Society, Ms. Mitsuko Akane Hase. All of them and the rest of the arrested individuals were arrested at different times and in different circumstances. Hayate was found with a member of his organization in a hotel, Itzara was giving a lecture at Deresele, Yumiko was returning home from a vacation in northern Solisia and Mitsuko was purchasing sex toys with her girlfriend, Juliana (who was also arrested).

At the same time, search and rescue efforts continued along with efforts to decontaminate and contain the affected cities in the south while the governments of Solisia and Nannasia issued warnings to foreigners and tourists and travelers not to come to southern Solisia and to be aware of their surroundings and of suspicious people or objects. Also, the Solisian government gave more permissions to the mass media and encouraged the journalists and digital journalists to tell the story to all the world.

In minutes, articles sprouted out of the countless Solisian and Nannasian websites as well as videos, photographs, and live streams of or about the gas attacks that was conducted by the Lesbian Society and the syndicalists and the socialists. Shock and rage were the emotions shared by many Solisians and Nannasians over the news and started to join their hearts and minds with the hearts and minds of their allies.

Yes, they joined the nations of New Edom and of the rest of the Imperion and of the other nations that opposed both LGBTQ and socialism in all forms.

Yes, Solisia has decided. The sun, moon and the stars would come together to face the foes of their allies. Yes, they have decided to stop being on the fence over the initial actions between the government of New Edom and the LGBT protestors. Yes, they have decided to act and to react in the name of God and in the name of what they thought was right and in the name of stopping future gas attacks and in the name of maintaining the peace and order of the Empire of Solisia and to safeguard Nannasia from disgusting things like that.

For the final act, as the nations of the Common Territories and New Edom stood against Ardoki to help the Empire of Solisia, the Queen wrote an open letter to the people in the embassy, trapped by the Ardokians. She ordered that this letter be published on every open media for the world to see, in the hopes that the people in the embassy could know of it.

To the men and women in the embassy to Ardoki,

I encourage all of you to be strong, but most of all, to be patient. We are doing everything we can to ensure your safe return home; trust in the guards protecting you and assist them if need be.

Do not surrender or do anything with the Ardokians. Wait for us. We will come and bring you all home.

Your Queen,

Meriall Satarana

Part 2: Opening Engagements

Postby Free Thouthen » Sun Apr 14, 2019 12:34 pm

OOC My dearest, most sincere apologies for the delay! I would want to officially thank Solisia and Vionna for making this joint post with me!

Thouthenian Navy's Horizon class frigate in the opening engagements of Battle of the Acheronian Ocean

Cornellian Waters: 04;01

A single Thouthenian upgraded Rubis - class submarine moved at the depth of -120 meters, with it's speed roughly 18 knots. It's majestic hulls cut the deep waters, hiding the massive shape from prying sensors of surface ships, it's orders to hunt down any enemy ships that found themselves unlucky enough to face it's torpedoes. Meanwhile, Solisian attack submarine was at 300 feet or roughly 90 meters. Its speed was 5 knots and its neatly designed hull glided through the cold waters, the shape disguised from the targets on the surface and from targets below the waves. It was rigged for ultra quiet and was currently on a patrol course ahead of the fleet

Roughly 60 kilometers from the Solisian submarine, the passive sonar had detected a possible contact at 2 o'clock. The captain of Thouthenian ship ordered his submarine to slow down to five knots, and extend the towed array for better filtration of background noise. Subsequently, a single UUV decoy would be launched from one of the tubes in "swim out" mode, reducing the launch noise while decreasing it's range, which mattered little in case of an UUV decoy. The decoy would emit a sound of a submarine heading at roughly 18 knots, proceeding on a straight line, hoping to confuse any potential hostiles.

Sonar on the Solisian boat registered a contact, a possible one, at the boat's 1 o'clock. The captain ordered her boat to maintain silent running and to change course to 11 o'clock, turning at the same speed. At this time, also the captain ordered the boat to extend the towed array after making it past 20 kilometers. The captain guessed it might be a decoy but hoped it was a real fish. Being cautious, she moved her boat away and told sonar to mark the contact as Alpha-1.

Yet little noise would come from a well camouflaged Rubis, which held it's noise level down. Slowly, the Rubis equaled it's level with the opponent's Aura. Meanwhile, thanks to the towed array, the contact was identified as Aura class submarine. Knowing that Aura class belongs only to Solisia, and having received the order to destroy all imperion assets, the commander made a decision to attack. Just as Aura class turned it's rear to the Rubis, it's sonar would hear the noise that froze the blood in every submariner - a metalic, single ping. Enough to note, not enough to position the sender. Thanks to it, the Rubis would get perfect positioning of the hostile Aura. What will follow would be a launch of three anti submarine rockets, which, upon leaving it's capsules, would break the surface, cover the distance in a matter of seconds, before delivering a torpedo, which, diving down, would activate it's sensors to home on the Solisian aura class - all while the Rubis was outside it's TDZ (torpedo danger zone).

The Aura's captain cursed as she heard the ping report from her sonar. She realized that the boat was most likely going to sink. She took her chances, ordering her vessel t to conduct an emergency dive and to go all ahead flank without caring for cavitation. She had to save her crew and her boat and to report the contact. It had to be one of the submarines of the hostile fleet. The captain observed as the boat dove, dove and dove rapidly as the ballasts filled with water, the bow sank into the depths and the boat, at her orders, unleashed two noise makers to distract the incoming rockets. They had no time to launch a torp against the enemy boat and had to survive.

As expected, the decoys took the toll on the attackers - two incoming rocket torpedoes became distracted. The third, however, headed towards the submarine, unfaltering it's course. The submarine tried to shake it off as best as it could but failed to as the missile locked on to it. It tried to send off one more noise maker and made a dramatic change of course towards the west at 260 degrees, still trying to shake it off, to survive, to desperately get rid of the missile that was locked on to it. All the turns were, however, too late. The projectile hit shortly after, the boat was breached, the explosion rocked throughout the Solisian Aura as the waters of the oceans stormed into the dying boat.

Soon, the sounds of a screaming metal hull sinking into the bottom of the cold waters would register on the hostile sonar. After confirming the kill, the Thouthenian boat would slowly continue onward, listening for a potential hostile response.

The first step to bypassing Imperion's submarine screen had been completed.

Cornellian Waters: 04;47

Deep below the waves, crept a single upgraded Rubis - the pride of the Thouthenian navy and one of three ships of this class in Thouthenian service. It had descended below one hundred meters, protecting itself from active sonars of hostile ships and going at silent speed of 17 knots. It approached the Vionnan carrier almost from the front, which placed it within the TDZ. The passive sonar had picked up the contacts coming from hostile ships, with appropriate officers performing TMA.

With ensigns fluttering proudly, the Imperial squadron cut neatly through the steady waves, searching desperately for the fleet they had heard so much about. Ringed by a small number of screening vessels, the central ships of the squadron looked majestic against the pretty Cornellian sky. HMNS Dauntless was a marvellous sight, with her tall superstructure, twin forward turrets and tiny flight deck at the stern. Admiral Barret had chosen one of the prettiest ships in the Imperial Navy for his flagship. She was well-armed too, those twin turrets carried four seventeen-inch guns each and each side of Dauntless was lined with twenty-eight Vertical Launch Systems. Smaller secondary guns, which were generally the norm for the Imperial Navy's capital ships, had been badly neglected on the more modern Dauntless in favour of more powerful air and submarine defences. A multitude of Defender Air-Defence systems (a CIWS and short-range missile system integrated as one system) lined her superstructure and much of the spare exterior space was decorated neatly with anti-submarine systems, able to carpet a vast area with rocket-mounted depth charges or launch a deadly torpedo at enemy subs.

That flight deck was not for show, either. While only able to launch a trio of tiny aircraft (known by the Fleet Air Arm as matchbox planes) from her miniscule hangar, Dauntless was still blessed with that capability and used it to its full. A Fuller Fairey sped nippily down it and rose up off of Dauntless with barely a second to spare. Armed with a torpedo and a pair of air-to-air missiles, the actual strength of the Fairey lay in its detection abilities, making use of the finest of air-mounted systems to sweep the waters below.

The time had come. Going at a bow aligned angle, the battlegroup had found itself within NEZ (no escape zone) of the submarine's torpedoes. The captain made a decision to launch an attack on the carrier, knowing that the loss of air cover would result in loss of most of operational capability of the ships. Because the thermocline denied a chance for the submarine to use the sonar to obtain firing solutions, the submarine would have to shoot using TMA analysis only - but when the enemy ships were heading straight at you at this range, it could have had a decent chance of success. The submarine stood still, flooding all of it's torpedo tubes. Then, it fired three F-21 torpedoes directly at the carrier. The fourth tube would fire a decoy, which would imitate a sound or Rubis going at 20 knots - a perfect imitation of a submarine trying to escape, and a good way to fool the battlegroup's ASW sensors. Meanwhile, the Rubis would reduce it's speed to 7 knots, dive at depth of 250 meters, and begin a slow exfil - in an opposite direction to where the decoy would go.
Detection systems aboard the ships of the fleet went haywire, aboard HMNS Black Crystal at the rear of the Imperial squadron, the torpedoes were detected by passive sonar after mere seconds in the water. Commander Hannah Idris snapped a message off to HMNS Dauntless and HMMNS Wedner with a warning: 'Three torpedoes launched, appear to be heading for Wedner, moving to engage source of attack.' Idris rushed from the bridge's control station to the navigation station, where Lieutenant Faslow had marked the launch positions of the torpedoes. "Ma'am," he reported, "These are where the torpedoes came from. The sub has, as far as detection can tell, started moving away at a speed of around eighteen knots."

"Very good," Idris replied, outwardly calm but frantic inside. "Carpet the area where the torpedoes came from. Launch our helicopter. Keep me posted." The Lieutenant nodded in the affirmative and jumped into action. The Hadrian-class frigate carried three ASRSs (Anti-Submarine Rocket System) at bow, port and starboard. Each ASRS carried a hundred rockets and was automatically reloaded in forty-five seconds, the rockets had a maximum depth of eight-hundred metres and sank at a rate of 15.1m/s. It was a system based on the rudimentary Hedgehog of the Second Europan War but, augmented with modern guidance systems and the aforementioned autoloader, it remained a quite sufficient weapon.

Black Crystal came about to be head-on to the source of the torpedoes and, with little ceremony but plenty of noise, the ASRSs fired. Three hundred rockets carpeted the area where the torpedoes had come from, the outdated guidance systems targeting a 1.25 mile radius, guaranteeing a rocket for every six metres. Once she was happy with the launch, Idris rushed back to the comms station. "Get a message to OD-38, tell her to come about and support us." OD-38 was a destroyer commanded by Commander Fae Danse, a pretty Gallandic woman of thirty-six years and a docile temperament. The ship was positioned on the right of the squadron and was best placed to support Black Crystal.

. Aboard HMMNS Wedner, things were most assuredly not docile. Captain Lleyton Barkman had kept his bridge in order but chaos reigned in his mind. With the information he had, he could be relatively sure that his ship was forfeit but he could still rescue his most precious charge. "Get those fucking planes launched, now!" He ordered with a snarl. He turned to his intercom and broadcast across his ship: "All hands, this is not a drill. There are three torpedoes on a course to hit us. Brace, brace, brace. Secure all munitions and the engines. I repeat, this is not a drill. Brace, brace, brace. Airmen to the flight deck, get up in the air and try to land at an allied airbase. Good luck." There was something incredibly dreary to the resigned wish for luck. The bridge crew noted it and so did Barkman but he ignored the sad eyes of his subordinates and grasped a railing fiercely, preparing for the impact.

The escape of the submarine had been a failure - for the "Hedgehog" type systems were still widely used in multiple navies, albeit have been many times upgraded. The area had been showered with explosive submunitions, which fell down into the depths - directly onto the submarine. The first explosion had ruptured the hull, creating a massive hole through which salty water poured in. The second one knocked the propulsion down. Thouthen had suffered the very first casualty in this war - but at the same time, knocked down a carrier.

On the flight deck of HMMNS Wedner, Colonel Sir Christopher Davenport had been enjoying an idle smoke break from his incessant paperwork. He leant against the small superstructure of the merchant carrier and flicked his cigarette, staring longingly at the two lone Striker aircraft on the flight deck. He listened intently as Captain Barkman's dismal message reverberated around the ship and lept into action the second he heard the word airmen. "You two, is this thing fuelled?" He shouted to a pair of aircrew on the flight deck, pointing towards a Striker. "Aye, sir!" The reply came, "But's she's got no munitions!" Davenport ignored the warning and ascended the ladder to the jet's cockpit, settling down as comfortably as he could. "Launch this fucker!" He shouted to the few aircrew on the deck as he closed the cockpit. He thanked Andy that he was not wearing his service dress and pulled on the flight helmet on the cockpit floor. Captain Barkman was distraught, he knew his ship was doomed but could not yet be abandoned. It was his duty to keep the Wedner running for as long as he could. He heard, on the flight deck below, the signature streaking sound of a Striker aircraft shooting along the flight deck. Barkman knew damned well that no other planes would escape his ship of the damned. Suddenly, there came a great whine and a roar and a rush of water. The ship rocked back to port and, as she was righting herself shakily, two more explosions rippled the waves in quick succession. The whole ship seemed to shake and it pitched high and listed to port before turning back and listing to starboard. Barkman was perhaps the luckiest captain alive, the torpedoes had hit too high to break the Wedner's keel. That stroke of luck, however, could not stop the inevitable.

After a few brief seconds, the lights went out aboard HMMNS Wedner. Somebody called to switch to backup generators and the lights returned, dim and flickering. "Sir!" A voice cried out, "The engine rooms are down, all of them!" Another reported, "We have a twenty-six degree list to starboard and a heavy list to the bow is coming on, Sir. We're taking on water fast." Barkman closed his eyes, suddenly very sick and very tired. He turned to a smartly-uniformed officer and ordered, defeatedly, "Yeoman, make to Admiralty and Merchant Naval Command from Wedner. Tell them we've been hit by three torpedoes from a hostile submarine and we're going down by the starboard-bow. Tell them we've lost all but one of our aircraft complement. Give them our location, just in case." The Yeoman nodded and Barkman turned to his most senior officer. "Lieutenant Tanlow, abandon ship."

The order was met by chaos on the bridge, organised chaos but chaos nonetheless. Every officer seemed to leap into action with a kind of delayed futility, like each man and woman was fighting to be the last to leave. That honour was left to Captain Barkman. The Royal Sovereign-class Merchant Carrier had space for 680 men on her boats but, with the starboard side out of the question due to the listing. There was space only for 340, luckily still enough for every man aboard. Every man except for Captain Barkman.

. There were more than enough spaces to fit the Captain, and his honour would not be tarnished, were he the last man to leave the ship. But he would not allow himself to face a Board of Inquiry, he would not run the risk of being held responsible for the loss of Wedner. He stepped nimbly into his ready room on the floor below, taking care not to stumble due to the list. He sat down on his office chair, which was moving due to the angle the ship was sinking at, and enjoyed a final glass of Frankenlisch Porter. With a deep sigh, Captain Lleyton Barkman drew his pistol and put a round through his head, the well-aimed shot killing him almost instantly. Nobody would come across the body, the Wedner sank beneath the Cornellian seas.

Admiral Elisaboth Wormberg was, certainly, not a person with any given amount of strategic talent - let alone psychological requirements to hold such an important function. Normally, she would have not been let on such a responsible office, however Thouthen's equal opportunity laws required that at least 40% of all employed personnel to be women (and 20% of all personnel to be LGBT, with over 60% being the people of color). Due to the "Diversity Laws" a woman had to be promoted somewhere, and thus, the former head of "Feminist Union of the Military", after receiving a good word from her friends from the Thouthenian Democratic Party, obtained the office she was holding at this point.

As her massive, hulking statue moved around the CIC (combat information center), resembling a massive walrus, all her underlings remained scared. After all, a person with such a well known connections to the Party, had enough influence to send them all to a Tolerance Learning Facility. Thus, those officers who remembered the times of the Kingdom of Thouthen kept their mouths shut, and carried all orders that Wormberg barked at them, no matter how their training told them to do otherwise.

Wormberg has a massive reason to worry, though. Just a short bit earlier, a helicopter AEW detected the Vionnan group. Shortly afterwards, a group of F-35s passively detected an incoming AWACS. This meant that there was a potential threat incoming, while an enemy battlegroup was ripe of the taking. Wormberg chose to divide her forces. Part of them would stall an eventual assault from other Imperion forces in the area, while the bulk of her forces would be responsible for killing the Vionnan carrier group, before choosing to combat the other threat. The direction from which the Imperion's AWACSes and where the Vionnan battlegroup was located were designated as a "main threat axis".

In the early morning rays of the sun, eight F-35s started from the deck of her carrier, heading directly towards Vionna's carrier group, which was now without an air cover. Each of them held two Joint Strike Missiles within it's internal weapons bays, with 16 missiles in total to be thrown on the carrier group.

Meanwhile, the two F-35s that were stationed on Combat Air Patrol (CAP) turned as well, this time in direction of the incoming enemy CAP, consisting of 4 planes escorting an AWACS. Due to them being of low visiblity, while their enemies were not, the F-35s were going to have the opening move. Approaching directly at the frontal aspect, the F-35s were going to unleash two salvos of 3 AAMRAMs - one at the AWACS and one at an escorting plane, before performing an S-turn and activating their afterburners, falling in direction of the ground to gain energy for the incoming fight.

Wormberg, however, was not taking measures. Three additional F-35s were sent in direction of the fight. In addition to that, two "Diversity" (Horizon) class frigates were ordered to detach from the carrier group and sail alongside the threat axis, forming an obstacle between the main carrier group and any incoming attack. Wormber allocated said group her last remaining AEW helicopter.

The opening battle... had begun.

Carrier group air force:
- 8 F-35s forming the attack force sent against the vionnan carrier.
- 2x2 F-35s forming CAPs (each with one AEW helo)
- 3 F-35s recently started and heading in direction of engagement
- 3 F-35s in reserve.

The Supreme Equalizer was delivering a speech, exactly at the same moment as a diplomatic note was sent to the Edomite Embassy, announcing a direct declaration of war against the Edomite state. Akin note will be sent to various other members of the Imperion Coalition. Thouthen was getting ready for war, and one of first orders of the Supreme Equalizer was a cyberattack on the Edomite internet infrastructure.

Free Thouthen Cyber Defense Force, the fifth and most recent branch of the Thouthenian state, was ready to respond to the order. The infamous branch took in everyone who had sufficient skills, including giving cyber-criminals chances to avoid justice and get rich in exchange for targeting opposition to Siyoum's regime. This branch will be responsible for one of the opening strikes against the civilian infrastructure of the Edomite state.

Throughout the years, FTCDF had been preparing a sufficient network, infecting internet connected devices - including TVs, cameras and computers - with malware which, upon given time, was meant to give FTCDF access to it's processing power. Now, in times of war, it had been activated. A massive botnet, numbering over 5 million infected devices, was formed.

It's target?

In every state there were usually only few internet providers. Largest of those internet providers was about to find itself under a massive distributed denial of service attack carried out by millions of devices at once, aiming to overwhelm it and bring it down. While by no means catastrophic, damage to Edomite economy was going to be considerable.

All according to Siyoum's will.

Part 3: Speeches

Postby Free Thouthen » Sun Apr 14, 2019 1:06 pm

TRANSCRIPT OF A SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, THE GREAT EQUALIZER, FIRST SECRETARY OF THOUTHENIAN DEMOCRATIC PARTY, DANIEL KHASSAI SIYOUM:

Image

<Daniel Khassai Siyoum enters the podium, rising his hand>

Daniel Khassai Siyoum: Citizens of Thouthen, and all people of the world. I come to you bearing grave news!

Crowd: ALL HAIL THE SUPREME EQUALIZER! EQUALITY IS THE BEGINNING! EQUALITY IS THE END!

<Daniel Khassai Siyoum signals the crowd to be silent, watching who will stop shouting the first, to know whom to send to the Tolerance Center next>

Daniel Khassai Siyoum: Humanity had greatly progressed throughout the past ages. From the backwards civilization of the middle ages, where man murdered man, the women were oppressed while the peasants cried under tyranny of the clergyman, who grew fat like a tick from the people's labor, into the wonders of modernity. We have built enormous buildings, that reach the sky. We have entered the space in our rockets, and studied the vastest corners of the universe. We have discovered the deepest and most concealed secrets that our fathers couldn't dream of existing. We have mastered the energy of the atom, and went through the industrial revolution. Yet those changes, albeit being a progress, have not yet seen humanity reach it's true potential as the species!

<Siyoum looks into the sky>

Daniel Khassai Siyoum: Why then? Why had humanity not yet created an utopia it's waiting for? The reason is simple - there is always a minority of evil men who seek to turn the wonders we have accomplished for their personal profit. Those men, at this moment, are predominately white, practice Christian religion, and are of cisgendered sexual orientation. In ancient times, it was exactly this group of men that had noticed that other people can be manipulated through clever use of religion and economics. By consolidating their power, the white men have created the global patriarchal system of the white male, that was designed to keep him in power. The system had been created to center around the white man, who was proclaimed the lord over everyone else. Women, people of color, and those of non-heterosexual orientation were reduced to slaves, or outright exterminated.

Finally, in gravest insult to everyone else, the white men have deified their supreme patriarch, turning him into a god, which sacralized their system. For a thousand years, nothing could have halted the unending march of patriarchy.

Patriachy slowly underwent many changes, especially as the dominant case of the businessmen overthrew the feudal lords. Victorious white buisnessmen have proceeded then to colonize the whole world and impose slavery on everyone. That system is about to collapse. Humanity is at this point at the verge of a historic revolution and must either walk with the current of times, or be washed away by it. Our choice is between an utopia and destruction, and in that choice we choose an utopia!

We will create equal societies! To ensure equality of the people, equalizers like myself will be set to evenly distribute the income! People of color, women and LGBTs will no longer have anything to worry! Restricting religious rulers will fall into oblivion! Everyone will be living a free life, free to enjoy himself without any restrictions however he will see fit, and without any consequences befalling them! Pleasure will become a human right, and all of humanity will have a happy life - and finally, the technology will allow us to do away with humanity and become immortal gods having an eternal life, when transhumanist research will no longer be restricted by backwards rules written by a handful of fat clergymen!

That vision, however, can only be realized if all of humanity chose to follow it. Because our idea is perfect, every other idea is less than perfect and must be shot down as reactionary and backwards! Yet there are those who have made those views dear to them! Those seek to, in the name of profit and their personal gain, undermine progress so that a handful of greedy cats, fascist soldiers and fat clergymen could enjoy carefree life as brainwashed masses work to sustain them!

Human history had proven us that such backwards regimes can not be tolerated. They will bring only pain, war and exploitation as greedy fat cats strive for power! As such, I have chosen to, in the name of humanity, make the first step towards greater progress!

The nation of New Edom is one of largest strongholds of white male patriarchy, as well as one of most aggressive. Protected by tangled web of alliances with reactionary nations, hiding behind Nifonese money and Commoner guns, is a theocratic structure that openly fights with armed force any attempt to change. By making peaceful changed impossible, New Edom had proven that it must be forced to accept progress.

It's reactionary allies have announced that they will, in violation of all freedom of navigation laws, destroy all vessels that they do not support that enter Cornellian waters. By doing so, they have put the entire modern system of maritime law in jeopardy. To permit international criminals to walk away scot free is to encourage them to carry out further action.

Thus, I want to announce, that from today on, the Free State of Thouthen enters the State of War against the entire Imperion Coalition, as well as against any ally of New Edom that wishes to stand in humanity's path!

The Thouthenian government calls for all nations of free will to support it in this endeavor. By making the move first, the state of Thouthen seeks to encourage others to act in defense of humanity's interests. To defend them, we will find until the last church in New Edom had been reduced to rubble by our cannons!

New Edom will either accept progress, or be washed into oblivion by the tides of history!

Crowd: ALL HAIL THE SUPREME EQUALIZER! EQUALITY IS THE BEGINNING! EQUALITY IS THE END!ALL HAIL THE SUPREME EQUALIZER! EQUALITY IS THE BEGINNING! EQUALITY IS THE END!ALL HAIL THE SUPREME EQUALIZER! EQUALITY IS THE BEGINNING! EQUALITY IS THE END!ALL HAIL THE SUPREME EQUALIZER! EQUALITY IS THE BEGINNING! EQUALITY IS THE END!ALL HAIL THE SUPREME EQUALIZER! EQUALITY IS THE BEGINNING! EQUALITY IS THE END!ALL HAIL THE SUPREME EQUALIZER! EQUALITY IS THE BEGINNING! EQUALITY IS THE END!ALL HAIL THE SUPREME EQUALIZER! EQUALITY IS THE BEGINNING! EQUALITY IS THE END....

Selvik, Cossack Khanate

The Imperator, looking refreshed yet at the same time burdened, walked to his podium, addressing the Senate. Several cameras broadcasted the speech to the public. As he took his place, the Senators stood in respect. He hastily motioned for them to sit.

“My dear Cossacks! Today, I bring to you many news, some good, some bad. I will start with the good. Our cooperation with the Tyronian monarchy in Lanorth is proving fruitful, our forces are making progress, and our ties with our brothers in Frankenlisch are growing stronger.

Yet the bad news is that some nations do not like this. Specifically, nations such as Vonein, who have deployed forces in an attempt to arouse disorder, degeneracy, and increased violence against the rightful rulers of Lanorth! They have declared war on our allies, and so we will retaliate in kind. I am, from this moment, declaring war on the State of Vonein.

Secondly, in the past few hours, I have learned that the absolute liberal degenerates in Thouthen have declared war on our unofficial allies in New Edom. They also have declared war, I quote ‘against the entire Imperion Coalition, as well as against any ally of New Edom’. This man by the name of Siyoum has insulted the traditionalist reality, and they have proved to the world that they are irrational, as all degenerates are! As a nation that stands by the rightful state of New Edom, furthermore Vionna-Frankenlisch, we consider ourselves allies of the victims of this Thouthenian aggression. Therefore, I hereby declare a state of war against the hypocritical failed state of Thouthen, their leader and anyone who follows their disgusting and godless path! They have come out to the world seeking a war, and we will give it to them! We will fight their supposed “progress” with guns and tanks! We will defend our heritage and culture, we will not allow these scum to walk all over us and our allies!”

The Imperator lowered his raised fist. The Senate began to clap, not out of necessity, as in Thouthen, but out of agreement. The pacifists who wished not to utilize the Khanate’s powerful military were not forced to clap. But they too clapped, for they still hated the ideals of Thouthen.

From behind stage, Konzul-General Travis Abdullov smiled. He had got his war, and he was going to flex Cossack muscle all over both of the two nations they were now foes with. He turned to his aides and said “Gather what we know about our military’s current capabilities. While you’re at it, look into our Cyberwarfare Branch. We might need them”...

The first part of his speech is related to Lanorth’s other thread, sorry about that, but it wouldn’t have made sense to only have half the speech.

Frankenlisch, Kingdom of Frankenlisch
King Edward I, Royal Train

“That seems to be the case, Your Highness. Our commanders in Lanorth should be speaking to one another by now”, said Vehr, still smiling.

"Hmm," Princess Sarah agreed, nodding while chewing a cupcake. She looked to her father and he laughed heartily.

"A little dry?" He asked between coughs. The Princess nodded. "Sherry, please, Jacob." A footman nodded his head and brought a decanter and glass over to the Princess who held the glass up as the servant poured. Four years prior, the Worker's Socialist Party had attempted to place major restrictions on the household service industry, going so far as to place a 30% tax rate on all households that kept servants. The bill did not pass, the crucial Labour Party support that the bill required to continue did not come, scared away by the potential for massive job loss. In fact, the following year, the Servitude Act had decreased income tax for all people that worked in household service and gave tax cuts to households that kept servants, as a result, many households had increased in size. The average Earl had two footmen in 2015, that number had increased to four footmen and an under-butler by 2019.

Of course, the Royals had not been majorly affected by these changes. They had sixty servants at Imperial Palace and a grand total of nine hundred at every Royal property across Vionna-Frankenlisch and the colonies. The King and his family were well cared for, clearly, and he opened his mouth to speak to the Cossacks about the nature of servitude in Vionna-Frankenlisch. "You know, Mister Vehr-"

King James' words were interrupted by a frantic knocking at the door behind him. Said door opened violently and a suited man entered, "Your Imperial Majesty," he saluted, panting, "A message, sire." He approached the King's bed and bowed. King James seemed perturbed by the use of "sire", usually utilised only when the monarch or prince in question was leading military forces. "The Admiralty begs to report that a submarine has attacked the Imperial New Edom Squadron, the Merchant Carrer Wedner is sunk, sire. Thouthen is to blame. It must be war sire!" The Herald reported frantically.

"The Duchy of Cunaris, Sergeant." Captain Bastard explained, handing over a manilla folder marked CONFIDENTIAL - OPERATIONAL PRELIMINARY. "The details are there but the basics are this: Some talented fuckers found a twenty-four-carat safehouse for the Purple Sisters. Security services already in Cunaris arrested five of its members but the silly sons-of-bitches did it in broad daylight so now everyone knows that Fox knows who is and isn't a Purple Sister in the area. So the rest of the members have gone quiet and we think they've gone into hiding in this safehouse, an old cement works outside Eldham. There might be as many as seventeen in there so we're going to raid it quickly. When we get to Eldham, you'll see the plan in detail."

"Your Imperial Majesty," he saluted, panting, "A message, sire."

Vehr and Sundar, unused to the usage of the word “sire”, sat as they were and simply observed. Dhuval mainly looked nervous, seeing that the man looked frantic as well.

"The Admiralty begs to report that a submarine has attacked the Imperial New Edom Squadron, the Merchant Carrier Wedner is sunk, sire. Thouthen is to blame. It must be war sire!"
Major Sundar’s eyes flared at the mention of Thouthen’s attack, looking from the Herald to the King. Vehr leaned to Dhuval “Contact FMR. Ask them what Ghatak has to say about it”. Although Dhuval was inexperienced and nervous, he was efficient. He whipped out his satellite phone and texted his contact at Foreign-Military Relations. The rapid reply came that the Imperator had declared war on Thouthen in a few moments after the Thouthenians had declared war on Edom.

“Your Majesty, His Majesty the Imperator has declared war on Thouthen, due to the fact that they officially declared war on the Imperion Coalition”

"The Duchy of Gestoria, Sergeant." Captain Bastard explained, handing over a manilla folder marked CONFIDENTIAL - OPERATIONAL PRELIMINARY. "The details are there but the basics are this: Some talented fuckers found a twenty-four-carat safehouse for the Purple Sisters. Navin nodded. “In that case, I’ll get my men ready. We’ll be ready to move in an hour” The two men wrapped up their conversation and Navin headed into the office proper. He clapped his hands twice loudly, to get his men’s attention.
“O.K everyone, we’re moving out on a mission. Get your bags ready, it’s a raid in Gestoria. Any questions?”

A young private sheepishly raised his hand. Navin sighed “Yes soldier?”

“Where’s Gestoria?”, he asked. In reply, a corporal moved a sticky note out of the way and pointed. “Duchy of Gestoria, right here”. Navin nodded. The corporal turned to the sergeant. “What does our loadout look like?”

Navin scratched his beard. “Bring your handguns. I assume if push comes to shove, the Frankenlischians will let us borrow an SMG or two. I’ll read the details on our way to the airport. Move!”

Earldom of Brumley, Kingdom of Frankenlisch
King Edward I, Royal Train
En route to Westonland

“Your Majesty, His Majesty the Imperator has declared war on Thouthen, due to the fact that they officially declared war on the Imperion Coalition”

"On the whole Coalition?" The King replied, gravely, "That's not good news, everyone is far too busy with other things. The Commoners and New Edom are dealing with Ardoki and the issues in Edom itself." James sat in silent thought for a few seconds, a deep expression of contemplation plastered on his face. Princess Sarah studied her father with a furrowed brow, seemingly trying to work out what he was thinking. "I must issue my own declaration!" He finally exclaimed, leaping into action, despite his weakness. He swung his legs to the side and pushed himself up with the help of a cane. Servants instinctively stepped forward to help him but he halted them with a tiny wave of his injured arm. "Cameron, take a letter."

A bald-headed footman brought the King's secretary in, the blond, large-breasted woman carrying a typewriter in her pale arms. She set the machine down on the King's desk on the right side of the carriage and sat down in front of it. "Thank you, Marcy. Mister Tristram, would you be so kind as to contact the Prime Minister, tell him I would like to make a broadcast when we arrive at Westonland Castle. Tell him to make all the preparations."

"Your Imperial Majesty," A sooty-faced fireman reported, having entered the carriage without even a knock, "We've just passed Brumley, sir. I should think we can reach Westonland in an hour if I have your permission to go at full steam." He bowed his head respectfully and removed his cap, revealing a clean, bald head with a clear rim of coal soot.

"You have it," The King replied, "If we're at Westonland Castle by four, I'll give you and Mister Calledon a hundred Lucans each." Mister Calledon was the train's usual driver and was renowned for his knowledge of steam locomotives.

"Thank you, sir," the fireman bowed his head again, "You are most generous, Your Imperial Majesty, we'll have you there by four, yes sir." He smiled cheerily as he rushed from the carriage, leaving a train of soot as he went.

"Right boys, mount up!" The order came just as the Cossacks arrived in a pair of Bloodhound Armoured Cars. As the Cossacks came down from their perches in the cars, they were approached by a well-built, older-looking man. His face, attractive and serious, wore a kind smile. "Welcome, brothers," he introduced with a Germanic accent, "I am Harric von Berrenheim, Lord-Commander of Field Intelligence Group 9. We're heading off right now, gents, so you mount up on those two Woodpeckers over there and we'll see you in Cunaris." Harric pointed to a pair of small reconnaissance helicopters and nodded, still smiling his wize, benevolent smile. The Lord-Commander saluted half-heartedly and rushed over to a Garland Consul naval helicopter and pulled himself aboard as it picked up from the helipad.

Brumley, Frankenlisch

The Cossack party watched the proceedings with a mix of satisfaction, that the King was declaring war and was going to broadcast, and nervousness, mainly on the part of Dhuval.

Sergeant Navin smiled and introduced in turn “I am Sergeant Jayesh Navin, Unit 17 of Cossack Covert Operations. We’ll see you in Gestoria”

The Lord-Commander saluted half-heartedly…

The unit saluted back, and headed towards the Woodpeckers and climbed in, ready for flight…
