Thanks,

I kept it (relatively) small for now. As hostilities escalate I can bring more, if not at least to keep the story entertaining.

Is the map still accurate?
What is the capability of the Ultramarine Navy?

I'm thinking about landing on the southern coast in the center of the neutral zone there.

Dear Ultramarine!

I've been thinking, and I have some questions regarding Ultramarine society and the ongoing famine.

1. What is the time of year in Ultramarine at the time of the RP?
2. What was the ruling class of Ultramarine like prior to the famine and civil war? We have seen the Emperor, and we've seen the starving poor, but who helps or helped him administer the lot? Was it an aristocracy of blood (a nobility), of wealth (businessmen and landowners), of rank (military officers or senior bureaucrats) or a combination of both? What happened to these people in the rebel parts? Did they flee the country or end up killed by the rebels?
3. What are the major rebel groups, what is their strength and their agendas (or at least their claimed agendas? [Somehow I suspect the YDB is not a literal battalion]
4. What were the principal industries of Ultramarine prior to the wars and famine, and what happened to them?

Yeah the map is still, currently, accurate it might change soon as I'm planning to launch as offensive against the rebels in Ygnay. Otherwise though neutral is still neutral and Government is still Government. :)

Capabilty of the Ultramarine Navy is more coastal defence than open aggression, Ultramarine has been a very isolationist state for a long time so the navy has been sadly neglected so you're looking at a single operational aircraft carrier, several transport ships, some escort class vessels such as destroyers and cruisers and finally two battleships. But that's it. So you should have a very unopposed landing. :)

Right okay let me see if I can answer these. The time of year (as stated before) is Autumn but there is maybe a week left till it turns to winter and the cold begins to come in. The lack of the rains has caused a mild concern for the people and some are hopeful that the lack of rain means the snows won't come as well.

The ruling class prior to the famine and civil war were a mixture of noble born land owners and wealthy buisnessmen. Government was dominated by ex-military types and also the wealthy. But the government was disbanded about six months ago by the Emperors orders and now the ministers who cared about the people are either dead, in hiding or in prison like Robert Schmitt the former defence minister and last hope for the rebellion to unite against the Emperor. On the topic of those wealthy land owners in the rebel control areas many are dead, others have fled to estates in government controlled lands.

The major rebel groups to have appeared so far as the YDB and the ULF. The ULF is seeking to liberate the Northern territories from Imperial rule and make a new country of Ultran that is made up entirely of ethnic Ultrans and ruled by them. The YDB is the main group around the city of Ygnay and their objective is to defend the city and then, when the have managed to unite the other smaller rebel bands around the area, strike for the capital and bring around democracy and a fair rule system for the country. The only other group to be concerned about is the Black Hand who are seeking to just cause chaos in the region.

And for Principal industries we had mining, farming and arms manufacturing. But with the war and famine most people are now too weak to mine and farming is almost pointless so its the arms manufacturing that is left. There are other industries of course but those three employ the most.

Well, it's time to post an order of battle.

Here's what I intend to have in the country:

1. A field hospital in Edoras, with beds for up to 600 patients. It can provide some surgery etc. but will prefer to airlift people to Allanea for serious medical assistance. [Present now]

2. A Railroad Battalion – which is tl;dr about 450 soldiers with guns, but whose main weapon are various track-laying vehicles, bulldozers, etc. allowing them to lay railroads at 10 km/day. [These will arrive within a post or two]

3. 5 Emergency Rescue Battalions – these are soldiers, with guns, etc., however their specialization is rescue work, building roads, getting people under fire. (The total is about 1,000 men). [These will arrive within a post or two]

4. One single Battalion Tactical Group, comprised of a tank battalion and some attached infantry – about 800 men with about 33 tanks (T-95AL), 20 BMP-3 Dragoons, six Coalition-SV howitzers and 12 Aranruth towed guns. The BTG is called Spring and will take time to arrive.

5. Assorted minor forces that will help in handing out the food aid. [In other words, I have neither the knowledge nor the time right now to figure out the details but presume that there are some small groups of guys that help hand over food and equipment to Ultrans rather than just toss it off the boats.]

6. An Epidemiological Study Group – which is about two score scientists in military uniforms, carrying guns, whose job is to evaluate the situation, and send reports to Allanea. [Probably present now].

7. A Psychological Warfare Team which are effectively going to function as propaganda experts. They're also soldiers and they have guns but for obvious reasons they will not physically shoot and kill people if they can avoid it.

8. There'll be a Special Forces presence but it will be probably in the scores or low dozens of people.

Defender AirCorp base, Arcadia

WO2. Steffen Heydrich, 17th Air training Squadron[GRADUATED]

Steffen was already 19 and a fighter pilot in the Air Corps. Most don't become certified pilots until they are around 20-23. Steffen grew up in a small town outside of Hizu. His family worked in the city at the trade exchange where most Arcadian food that was being shipped traveled to. Steffen had been in the Junior Officers Program since he was 15, and went to school until he turned 18 and was promoted to the rank of warrant officer 1. While he attended a military school his life as a child was a normal one. On the weekends and Fridays he would have no military events so he would go out with friends or see family. He tried to make it into the AirCorp Military Academy, but was turned down so he had to go to a regional school. He had graduated two years ago and went to become a fighter pilot. He had learned to fly an FRC fighter. Now he and his graduating class from flight school were now all awaiting orders. He like all who passed were notified, and he was told to report to the commandant's office. The assignment ceremony was next week. He wondered if he had gotten in trouble or had something happened to his family? When the door opened the commandant walked out, and Steffen stood and gave the commandant a crisp salute. The commandant returned the salute and spoke "Head on in." Steffen walked in and the door closed behind him and he turned surprised the commandant was waiting outside. hats when Steffen heard a cough and lieutenant colonel spoke " Are you Warrant Officer Two Steffen Heydrich of the 17th Air training Squadron?" Steffen turned around and faced forward and saluted and spoke "Yes sir, Warrant Officer Heydrich reporting as ordered sir!" The Lieutenant Colonel spoke Have a seat Mr. Heydrich. Steffen sat down and the officer spoke "I am Lieutenant Colonel Sardou. We have been looking for volunteer pilots for an assignment in the Federal Union of Urlistan." Sardou looked down and grabbed some papers and spoke "The reason why we have brought you in here is that you name has yet to be entered into the Ministry of Defense systems as a certified pilot. Now this gives opportunity to use you as an adviser in the Unionist Forces. Now since we are forming a new unit, I thought it would be a good idea to meet those who we are choosing to be pilots for our squadron." Sardou then handed Steffen his papers and stood up. He then spoke "I have to go meet three other warrant officers now, here are your papers. See you next week." Sardou handed him the papers and walked out. Steffen looked at his papers and saw he was being assigned to Urlistan at a UFAF installation. The commandant then walked back in and spoke "You are dismissed Mr. Heydrich."

Two Hours Later

Town of Ersteig, Arcadia

He was free tonight, he had called his family and let them know what was going on. He was now meeting his girlfriend of two years to see if she would come to Urlistan with him. He sat the usual place in the restaurant they came here almost every weekend. Their booth was in the right corner of the place. He sat drinking a coke, waiting for Anne to arrive.

As he waited she arrived and sat down and asked "How is it going?" Steffen replied "Good, I just got my duty assignment" Annes face brightened up and said "Why aren't you as happy as you usually are? This is great you have been waiting three weeks and you got it early!" Steffen spoke "The issue is with the duty assignment, im going overseas." Anne surprised by that spoke "What does that mean?" Steffen spoke "It means im going to Urlistan and I want you to come with." Anne slumped to her seat and her expression darkened Steffen spoke "Whats wrong?" Anne spoke "I, I can't you know I can't." Steffen spoke "Why not?" Anne replied quickly now with a tear in her eye "I can't just leave my family, everything I had ever known. My job everything!" Steffen spoke "Then we can just go long distance." Anne shook her head and said "Those never work." After that the two sat there silent. Both trying to gather the words. Steffen then stood up and walked away, he was angry but he was sad. As he walked to his car he looked into the diner window from his car and saw Anne crying. He didn't know how long he would be angry for but he knew it would pass. She did have a point on leaving everything behind. As his father explained everyone has a 'bubble' which dictates where people live, for some its the world for others it's their hometown. As he sat in his car he realized he couldn't be angry, he would probably say the same if the roles were reversed.

WO2. Steffen Heydrich, 171st Fighter Reconnaissance Squadron, UFAF Air Force

He put his bag down by the foot of his bed, he was the only one in his room. Outside snow beat down on everything. It showered where he lived but not like this. He unpacked his bag putting a photographic his family on his desk. It had his father Alwin, his mother Karoline, his younger sister Annet and his younger brother Caspar. On the other side of his room sat an empty bunk and desk like his, looks like it was a two person room. As he unpacked his bag and put his Air Corp uniforms in the closet he saw UFAF was uniforms, two battle uniforms, one dress uniform, and his winter gear and flight suit.

He heard the door open and cold air rushed in and he saw a man walked in with his bags too, and he closed the door and said “ sorry about that, damn it’s cold outside .” That’s when the man looked surprised and spoke as he put his hand out “Are you Warrant officer 2 Heydrich?.” Steffen spoke “yeah are you my bunk mate? Steffen shook his hand as he said “yeah I’m warrant officer 1 Aulii Kahiona. I’m you co pilot.” Steffen smiled and said “you from the October islands?” Aulii spoke “yeah they just took a boy from the tropics like me and dumped him here in this arctic wasteland. Where you from?” Steffen replied “ Central region?”

They continued to talk and get to know each other until they were mustered. They all moved to an atrium with their commanding officers. Soon an older man next to Lieutenant Colonel Sardou stood at the podium. When they all stood at attention he spoke “Have a seat. Now I know you all have questions , and it’s understandable. I am your commanding officer Colonel Clement Tauber. Next to my is lieutenant colonel Sardou. On my other side is Chief Master Sergeant Tristan Rödl who is our top ranking NCO. I know all of you have seen the uniforms in your closets, and they are for reason. These are your uniforms from here on out. We are combat advisors to the Unionist Air Force and are now personnel of both the Air Corp and the Air Force.”

The speeches went on for another hour , they got their flight assignments. Only two other guys in his flight were warrant officers the rest were all lieutenants and above. Chow was nice, hot food in a freezing winter went a long way. He couldn’t wait for this weekend so he can go out on the own and see Urlistan and get to know people here. He wasn’t much of a coffee drinker but with how cold was outside he couldn’t resist it. The new uniforms were comfortable and helped block out the wind, tomorrow they would get their patches set up. On their dress uniforms the Arcadian flag or if they were from the NTDF their colonial flag was stitched on their dress uniforms. The jacket was nice and from what he hear all the next few days would be is cold weather flights to get us familiar with flying in the cold and getting our uniforms set.

Back in his barracks room, he sat on his bed with his winter coat and BDU coat hanging off the bed watching the Tv on an Arcadian tv station they had already pirated. Turns out Aulii was good with technology. He sat at his desk polishing his dress shoes. Things were calm here, cold but calm. He heard the Green Union was a beautiful country in the spring, and he couldn't wait to see it.

WO2. Steffen Heydrich, 171st Fighter Reconnaissance Squadron, UFAF Air Force

It was friday, and he would have the weekend off. He put on some jeans and a winter jacket, and his wool hat. The hat was from Farvou's city rugby team. They won the national championship two years ago. He stood with other soldiers waiting for the bus to Warmbay. They all loaded on. Steffen sat down in the back of the bus, he wanted to get some cheap food and go from there. He reached into his pocket and put in earbuds and pulled out his phone to put on some music. Hopefully this would make the ride better.

As the bus stopped he could hear the brakes screech though his music. Everyone started to get out including Steffen. They had made it in Warm Bay within an hour. He walked out onto the sidewalk looked around for a place to eat. Cars were in the streets most were parkes but the sidewalks were busy. He continued to walk until a diner caught his eye. It was right outside of an Arcadian expat community, so he walked in.

He went to the counter and took a seat, one woman in her early 20s walked up and spoke "What would you like?" Steffen spoke to the waitress "What do you have that's good?" She smiled and said "You're new around here aren't you?" Steffen replied "Yeah." She spoke asked "So where are you from?" Steffen replied "Arcadia." She asked again "Are you AAF?" Steffen replied "Kinda, they just sent me to the Unionist Air Force." She once again asked "So what do you do in the Air Force?" Steffen smiled and said "Im a pilot." When Steffen ordered his food the waitress came back and sat next to him and said "My name's Katarina." Steffen replied "I'm Steffen" Steffen then spoke "So are you free later?" Katarina laughed and said "Yes, what do you have in mind." Steffen smiled and said "You could show me around town."

They have been out for a few hours and Steffen had to leave soon. They sat in a park overlooking the water and he said "Your parks have less snow than i expected." Katarina replied "Well everyone needs money right now so jobs like cleaning up the snow or anything like that is good money to come by, even if you can't afford the cost of life here." Steffen replied "Why don't people buy land and start up a cattle farm of anything like that." Katarina replied "Here we don't have strong ties to the concept of land ownership." Steffen laughed, and said enough politics "where are you from?"Katarina spoke "From Himmelsdorf, my family moved here a year before the war." They talked for a few more hours before the streetlights when on. When he had to leave Steffen spoke "Its getting late, do you know any good hotels so we can continue this tomorrow?" Katarina replied "Head on main street and look for a red building, its a good place to stay it's owned by my commune." Steffen spoke "Ill take your word on it. See you tomorrow."

Monday

He and other pilots in his flight had just finished the briefing for a training run. Aulii walked up to him and spoke "So how was your weekend?" Steffen replied "It was great man, the women in this country are great." Aulii laughed and said "So you met a girl?" Steffen smirked and said "Yeah." Aulii replied "Well I spent the entire time partying." They both laughed.

When they got in the air they flew in a formation with two other fighters over Warm Bay. The sound of the engine filled the cockpit and the other pilots chatter filled the radio. He dipped his wing and the mark fighter handled like a bird gliding through the sky. He then dipped his wing to the other side and saw the wind push off the tip of the wing. The ground below him grew bigger and bigger as he descended from the sky. He then pulled up with the rest of his formation.

WO2. Steffen Heydrich, 171st Fighter Reconnaissance Squadron, UFAF Air Force

Katarina stopped by at the barracks today, some guys had their families stop by while others brought native girls in. Aulii, and the girl he brought in, who hailed from the south named Eva De Waele, and Katarina. They sat on their beds and played cards, the snow had stopped coming down and they had the lights on. They had the two other warrant officers and one of them brought in their sister who immigrated here with the Arcadian settlers that arrived last week. Aulii and Steffen had their civilian attire on since they were off duty. All visitors on base would have to leave in an hour for security reasons. Katarina had brought in some food from her Communes diner and Steffen had a cheese steak today. As they played cards against humanity, they were laughing and everyone was having a good time. Katarina then stood up and walked outside. When the door closed and the cold air stopped from coming in from the door Steffen stood up and he spoke "Ill be right back."

Steffen then walked outside and he moved over to Katarina who was leaning against the railing and Steffen spoke "Arent you cold?" Katarina smiled and said "I'm used to it my commune lost power since the war and we have been stuck in the cold." Steffen replied "People here really are resilient." Katarina turned her head and she spoke "We have to be nature is a beast you don't want to be unprepared for." Steffen smiled and said "You are right." and Katarina smiled and shot back with "Are I not always?" They both laughed. In the dark they heard the sound of an Air Force jet take off with the lights of the runway and the lights on the plane. Their laugh turned into a smile, and they were quiet for a minute looking at each other and he said " Steffen looked at his watch and said "We have 10 minutes left so what should we do with our limited time?" Katarina shot back with a smile "head back inside and join everyone else?" Steffen agreed and said "lets go."

WarmBay Air Station, Urlistan

WO2. Steffen Heydrich, 171st Fighter Reconnaissance Squadron, UFAF Air Force

He guided his jet below the cloud as a UFAF F-35 flew below. They were conducting war games against other UFAF pilots. The squadron they were up against were full of former Anavokian pilots. "Watch Out!" Steffen perked up and he pulled over to the side, Steffen spoke "Good spotting Aulii." Aulii replied "No problem." The air glided off the plane as he brought it around to face the F-35. Steffen spoke again "Eagle 5-2 , this is Eagle 5-6 I got a red on my tail, i need some assistance over here." Steffen rolled the plane again as one of the tracer rounds barely missed. As the F-35 passed them Steffen dove down and fired his guns on the red fighter. The comms went on ad he heard the pilot from the other fighter speak "Nice shot im heading back to base."

Steffen smirked and moved above the clouds. Aulii spoke again "Whats that three kills now?" Steffen replied "I thought we had three." Then over the comms Second Lieutenant Platt replied " Hey you know i got the first fighter." Steffen shot back "In your dreams." As they flew above the clouds, the Earth grew farther and farther away. The blue skies, and the sun's rays bearing down on them, with the only sound heard were hum of the engines and the muted sounds of the communications equipment going off. Steffen brought the plane back down but not before he was "hit" by an F-35. Steffen went on open comms and spoke "Good play, good play, I'm heading back to base." When they landed the post flight checks were done. He opened the canopy and he lifted up his visor. He then proceeded to disconnect his helmets systems from the plane and stood up as the ground crew put the stairs to the cockpit and he stepped down. The air is getting colder, once he took off his helmet he could see his breath as it froze once it left his nose and mouth.

When he made it inside he went to the payphone and called his parents back in Arcadia. Nothing much was happening over at the farm but his father was laid off a few days ago. It looks like he would be sending a piece of his paycheck home. When he got done on the phone he sat at a bench and closed his eyes. He awoke to Lieutenant Platt standing over him and he smiled and said "Good work out there." Steffen said "Just wait we'll beat your score." Platt replied "We'll see."

Tomorrow they would be out in the bus out in the cold to learn how to survive if their plane is shot down. They would be taught by former LAF personnel.

WarmBay Air Station, Urlistan

WO2. Steffen Heydrich, 171st Fighter Reconnaissance Squadron, UFAF Air Force

He laid on his stomach as snow kicked up in the air. They have been conducting cold weather survival training incase if they were ever shot down. They were all given a hand gun and two magazines. As he rolled to his back he looked up at the blue sky with only a single cloud in the sky. He and Aulii were taking a break on thier way to the extraction point. Aulii was pissing in a bush, while Steffen waiting for Aulii he decided t get some rest it may have been for a minute or so but its better than nothing. He heard Aulii coming back so he opened his eyes and he sat up and Aulii said "Lets go we're about a mile away from the EXVIL point. Steffen stood up and wiped the snow off of his insulated flight suit and walked forward with Aulii do the extraction point. They were just about out of food, and only one full canteen of water was left. They have been out here for three weeks.

When they arrived at the extraction point, they met up with six other pilots that meant the crews of three other fighters. As they walked by he heard one crew speaking in Russian, while the others were eating. Steffen sat down by the crew peaking Russian and one of them looked up and said "Looks like they are allowing kids in the Air Force now!" They all laughed and Steffen replied in Russian "Only if they are allowing old men like you in too!" They all laughed once more and one of the pilots spoke with a wide smile "Where did you learn to speak Russian so well?" Steffen replied "One of the farm hands at my family farm was from Anavokia, a small coastal town." The two men's eyes light up as they said "We are from Anavokia too, both of us were from Pestris." Steffen asked "So what brings you here to this humble wasteland?" The Anavokians both said the same money. When they asked Steffen he said the same as well. They continued to talk as more crews started showing up and soon they heard the sound of a helicopter in the distance. When it neared the extraction zone unpacked snow was kicked up and Steffen covered his eyes. As the helicopter landed they all were rushed on board. As they were all loaded on the crew chief took a headcount and the rear door of the CH-47 closed. They were heading back to base at last. Steffen couldnt wait for a hot meal for once.

WarmBay Air Station, Urlistan

WO2. Steffen Heydrich, 171st Fighter Reconnaissance Squadron, UFAF Air Force

They had been scrambled the moment Sevevillian vessels entered Urlistan's sovereign waters. The Unionist Navy was already on scene with a Royal Navy Coastal Defense Group. They had three Air Force flights in the air. As they flew the coast left behind them as they entered the sea. He flew behind Lieutenant Platt's fighter. They pulled to the left and the planes wings dipped and they flew so close to the water, water was even kicked up. As they leveled out the planes communications system went on air with Lt. Platt speaking "Listen, play things by the rules, a Sevevillian fleet, be advised or possible opposition air support, dont get careless we dont need to loose any pilots during peacetime." As they flew closer the ships of all three nations entered sight.

Once again communications came to life with an Arcadian Naval Commander "Hold fire and run defensive operations, do not engage but stay in attack formations, we are currently trying to raise a communication channel with thier fleet." he continued to go through what he wanted us to do. When they were flying circles above the ships everything seemed so calm but it felt like the eye of a storm. One wrong move they would be back in the storm. Over the engines the sound of the pitter patter of rain hit the canopy. The skies were a dark grey and the waters reflected it.

Back when he was at the Pierrat Air Military Academy, all he wanted to do was see some action and become an ace like he heard about but now his nerves were torn. His stomach felt ill and he felt as if he needed to use the restroom. Aulii spoke "So we're finally gonna see some action, ready to kick some ass?" Steffen replied but hesitated "Ye-Yeah, im ready to fuck some shit up." Aulii giggled and shot back "Think about it this way, this is sure to get you laid." Steffen then replied "You seem happy about this." Aulii said "Yeah, think about it this way, either we see some action or we dont, but hey I'll buy the drinks when we get back" Steffen then shot back "Then I'll drink you poor." Aulii responded "like i have money." This banter did help his mind get off of his nerves but the possibility of getting shot down stuck with him.

Ultramarine would you mind if I sent three more container ships? I have slightly underestimated the sealift capability I would need.

Sounds good, can you explain why only 50 for the size of your support?

Otherwise you are accepted :)

before I post I would like to switch sides to the rebels and my troops at first would provide support. . Also what is the IC and what is the tl;dr of what has happened so far? Sorry about the late reply im on vacation

Yeah that's fine mate don't worry about it! And well I don't think the story has advanced very far, just an ambush some raids and then riots in the capital. Think you found the IC though right?

Hi Ultramarine!

I have some more question.

1. What is the military strengths of the main rebel factions? [i.e. how many weapons, men, etc. are they known to have, in terms what can be found IC by satellite photography / questioning rebel prisoners and captured rebel documents /reports from the government]
2. What are the aircraft Ultramarine has in its possession?
3. As you may know, it is possible to reveal the locations of mass graves by satellite photography (due to diferences in soil temperature and shade). Through this means, or alternately through rumors, is there any evidence of where the rebels buried their victims? Are there any well-publicised rebel atrocities?

Ultramarine, before I reply.

Casualties will be taken by my men, but with your reaction...

1)How could those armored units get there that quickly?

2)Looks like you unleashed what, 2 armored battalions and an air assault battalion against 2 amphibious infantry.

If we go through with that I'll surge the full legion into the country.0

Allanea I'll reply to you next IC post

No doubt because in any sane universe Ultramarine would know days in advance your fleet is approaching, and would know hours in advance what your general landing area would land. In the real UK, areas where Marines can land directly on the shore are highly limited.

Even if Ultramarine's air force and navy are really basic, and even if you managed - somehow - to sneak up to within the edge of his exclusive economic zone unnoticed, you'd be seen, by the naked eye, from literally aircraft.

But Ultramarine will be the final judge on this since it's his nation being invaded.

Deploying 3 battalions when 2 enemy marine infantry battalions on tanks and IFVs are landing in your country with a fleet is a totally reasoanble move?

The armoured units have just crossed the border they haven't gotten to you yet, I will admit i did maybe overreact a little but the air assault unit was mobile anyway due to the way being fought with fire force tactics which require a helicopter group to be active at all times.

But yes you are correct I have launched a rather large amount of men at you. Sorry.

Shoot just saw this sorry! Okay the answers are:

1: Militarily the YDB and ULF are the strongest factions the ULF numbers about 10,000 men spread out across the country in smaller cells ready to strike at any moment. The YDB is about 7-8 thousand strong and is centred int he Ygnay province. How many weapons and such is unknown but it is known that the ULF has heavy artillery and some APCs and Tanks.
2: Aircraft wise we are in possession of Hinds and other Russian Aircraft. Mostly Migs for jet fighters and some SUs as well.
3: well publicised rebel atrocities so far are just the stuff that has brought many people here the robbing, killing of officials and other things. In the North there are some mass graves from where the ULF have massacared Marineians living in the north but otherwise not a lot is known of what is happening in rebel controlled areas.

What is a name of your main airfield in the country so I may land my forces there, I was also wondering would you be open to a joint base?

1. I'm using Edoras airport.
2. Probably a joint base is not super-good at the moment.

Would ou be fine if my forces land there and use it as a staging area for about a week until a base can be set up

The main airport is Edoras International :) and I would be okay with you arriving there, just be advised you may not receive a great welcoming from the locals.

Could you tell us the name of the river on the map (the one that's where the RL Thames is)?
