First Sergeant James "Hal" Massoud checked his Mini-Uzi's holster, then flung open the door of the custom-built 7319 Alliance halftrack and kicked the ignition, its diesel V12 roaring. Several other men under Massoud's command, all Egyptian Coptic Christians like he was, took positions around the truck.

The entire camp was bustling as the First Armored Field Corps took off in the dusty, shining mid-morning, with the objective to rush the border and break through, and possibly sweep through and liberate Hanita and Kfar Rosh HaNikra at least by afternoon, when the bulk of the infantry would come. Massoud's own vehicle, fully enclosed and equipped with barbed-wire blades, quad Rheinmetall MG3s and four body-mounted flamethrowers, would be used as an anti-personnel deterrent.

Droves of main battle tanks, up-armored Humvees, field artillery, rocket vehicles, armored bulldozers, and halftracks similar to the Sergeant's, driving in scattered, uneven waves rather than columns to make strikes by air harder, pounded the Isratine border with heavy fire before letting the faster vehicles hit the fortifications itself.

Private Dalen, a grunt manning the MG3s, let out an enthusiastic whoop as he turned the guns on Isratine border towers and covering troops. Two North Africans, down the tubes of the flamethrowers, shot spurts of burning fuel towards any counterattacking vehicle.
This scene was multiplied by around fifty as other vehicles arrived, before pushing forward.

The Third Air Cavalry units, arriving from Hamoul up farther in Lebanon, gave a firm watch through the sights of their rocket pods. Post-modernized Cobras, Hueys, Apaches, and Blackhawks further patrolled the borders and gave cover for the Crusaders' ground assault.

"But lord, this is our chance to purify the Holy Land. God's will!", interjected an otherwise quiet clergyman standing by as an advisor.

"God's will must not be enforced solely by the sword, reverend. I for one-", the Barn was about to say before he was silenced when the Grand Duke, who had been standing by watching this, elbowed his ribs lightly.

"I have heard enough. Here is what we shall do; First, we must arrange for a force to protect our diplomatic properties in the region. Secondly, it is indeed God's will, and so we shall follow His guidance. It is too early to get involved fully, but some cash wired to the other crusaders would be most prudent. Finally, we shall announce neutrality, but we must prepare ourselves to intervene fully should things go well. Marshal, see that the military is ready. Baron Lee, draft the statement. At the same time, anonymous payment are made to the crusader governments amounting to $50 billion USD. Several Humvees and mobile artillery were hit by the high-explosive rounds, but nonetheless with very few casualties and several damaged vehicles, as the RPGs bounced off the armored bulldozers and tanks. Around 15 recieved serious or fatal wounds and 80 with injuries, which was nothing considering the thousands of armored crews involved in the crusade. They'd initially been expecting a much heavier counterattack.

The Sergeant then grabbed the halftrack's cab radio.

"Panzerwagon One-Five, Ostrich speaking. Requesting airstrike on anti-armor infantry. If you happen to see any advancing armor, kill them too. Anyone copy?
"Roger that, Ostrich. Stork online. Fifth AirCav Wing inbound. I'll take care of you, lil' Hal."

A flock of the Cobra attack helicopters in Crusader insignia blazed over the battlefield, triggers down as 20mm tracer rounds streaked into the RPG-armed infantry group, before turning to the advancing Jerusalem Heavy Cavalry.

Lines of Hellfire missiles streaked out from the leading SuperCobra towards the tank units. Several medium tanks and MBTs on the front lines started blasting back at the advancing Isratines.

"Gethsemane and the Sepulchre Church are nearby, and most likely the objectives of this assault, so force them to risk bombing it in order to get through. As the fighting intensified in the region all of the Slick Works Well Control Company workers scrambled back to the Mamilla Hotel. Once they all were back, they started to reinforce the hotel in case a stray shell or bomb happened to land in their vicinity. Once they had sandbagged the entrances and propped up the ceiling with timbers, three of the workers climbed onto the roof and erected a 20x38 ft flag of peace. Then one of them grabbed some cans of spray paint and painted the Slick Works Well Control Company logo on the roof. Afterwards they set up a beacon signal on the roof that would highlight the building to any aircraft as a neutral humanitarian outpost. Once they were complete they went back inside and waited for the call.
