30 years ago - 10:00 A.M. November 24 – 300 miles/482.8 kilometers off the northwest coast of The Chuck and 90 miles/144.8 kilometers off the northeast coast of [Redacted]

Today was starting to become a very eventful day for Captain Jarrett Weiss, respected and beloved commander of the “Sol Maris” [Redacted] navy aircraft carrier. Starting off, Rear Admiral Lauren Mercia had arrived on his ship and declared that it would be her flag ship for the upcoming N.A.N.O. (Naval Alliance of the Northern Ocean) exercises. Each year the nation of The Chuck and [Redacted] had joint naval exercises to improve relationships and share military training. Each nation usually brought one Carrier Strike Group consisting of one Aircraft Carrier (CV), one Carrier Air Wing (CVW), two Cruisers (CA), one Destroyer Squadron (DESRON), four frigates (FF), two Fast Attack Submarines (SS), and two Supply Ships (AOE/AOR).

As soon as Admiral Mercia was situated on the bridge a message came in from Captain Nathaniel Halsey, commander of the C.N.S. Zephyr. "Captain Weiss, bureaucratic issues has delayed the The Chuck Navy (T.C.N.) Task Force from reaching your position until tomorrow. Once we arrive, the N.A.N.O. exercises can commence. Hold your position, we'll see you soon. Captain Halsey signing off." Admiral Mercia looked at Jarrett and humphed at the news about the delay. After a moment she turned to him and had a determined look in her eyes. She spoke up and said, "Alright, those Chuckian sea cows have beaten us in these war games the past 3 years in a row. This time we are going to win this. Make sure all ships are battle ready and that we have a radar lock on their position at all times. Tomorrow morning when they arrive I want the fleet to be in position to stage a mock ambush on them." Turning towards the crew on the bridge Captain Weiss didn't even have to speak an order before they shouted "Aye aye, ma'am!" and rushed to relay the word to the rest of the ships in their taskforce.

While men and women scrambled about preparing their warships for the mock ambush, one officer was staring intently at a radar display screen. Without taking his eyes off of it, the officer spoke up, "Captain Weiss, I am tracking 8 large bogies heading towards our island. They appear to be moving extremely fast at 5 KM/s and they are 2000KM high, should we call this in to command?" Weiss and Admiral Mercia both moved simultaneously to look at the screen. As the three officers watched, each unidentified object splintered into dozens of smaller objects. Without a moment of hesitation, Admiral Mercia shouted at one of the radio operators "Warn Command, they have a first strike incoming!" While Mercia was shouting at the radio operator, Captain Weiss kept watching the screen and saw one "small" group of projectiles splinter off from the main cluster and divert towards them. Turning towards another officer on the bridge, he shouted at her to sound the general alarm and to raise the other ships on the horn and alert them to the incoming nuclear device.

Five minutes ago the decks of the ships in the fleet were bustling with personnel but now only the sailors who operated the defense systems were on deck. Everyone else was ordered inside the ships to protect them from a potential nuclear blast if the point defense systems were unable to shoot down the incoming nuclear warheads in time. As the men and women of the fleet waited, Captain Weiss contacted Captain Halsey and the T.C.N. task force that was steaming towards them, "Captain Halsey, we have unidentified bogies heading towards our nation and ourselves. We believe these to be nuclear warheads of a first strike from one of our enemies. Please sail to our current position with utmost haste, we will be in dire need of help if we survive this attack. God speed and God bless, Captain Weiss, signing off." As soon as he was done with his transmission, Captain Weiss heard the steady stream of radio chatter from command abruptly stop. Suddenly Admiral Mercia, himself, and those on the bridge were blinded and back-lit as the horizon towards home flashed multiple times with the intensity of staring directly at the sun. At that moment everyone in the [Redacted] fleet knew, they were now members of an endangered culture and group of people.

As they stared dumbfound at the mushroom clouds rising slowly on the horizon, Admiral Mercia snapped out of her haze when she realized that they were vulnerable on the bridge of the Sol Maris. The aircraft carrier had an armored hull and able to withstand everything short of a direct hit from a nuclear device but the tower was not armored. Quickly they secured some important documents and ordered everyone to evacuate the tower. As everyone turned to evacuate the tower, the point defense systems opened up. As missile trails, flak bursts, and medium AA tracers lit up the sky, three 200 kiloton warheads made it through. One detonated on impact while two of the warheads didn't detonate until a minute or two later when they had hit and sunk a ways into the ocean. As the first bomb detonated, every sailor who was on the decks of their ships operating the defense weapons were vaporized and the only remains of them were the black carbon shadows imprinted on the hulls of their ships. From the force of the surface detonation, many ship hulls buckled and the two unarmored AOEs sunk with all deckhands lost. Immediately after the crews of the remaining ships had collected themselves, the two submerged warheads detonated.

In hindsight it would have been better had the two submerged warheads detonated on the surface. In much the same way that a torpedo works, the two nuclear warheads detonating momentarily created a large pressure cavity beneath much of the fleet. This caused multiple ships to sink when their hulls ruptured under their own weight no longer being supported by water. In total, one cruiser, one destroyer, two frigates, and one submarine were lost with a majority of their crews. Some however were able to escape to the water before their ships sunk. Unfortunately, the two detonated warheads had caused the water to boil and so those who thought they were jumping to safety suffered horrible second degree burns to most of their bodies.

As the sailors on the "Sol Maris" and other ships opened the hatches, they got a first hand look at the damage wrought on the fleet. The ships that were still floating were either alight or listing heavily to a side or both. Many above deck structures such as the towers and radar arrays of the ships were either gone or severely damaged by the blast wave. As Captain Weiss climbed out of a hatch and helped Admiral Mercia up, he noticed that she was gripping a bloody section of her uniform on her right side. When she saw him looking at her in worry, she forced a smile and said "I'll be fine, tend to the others before me." Suddenly she keeled forward and coughed up a large glob of blood. As a couple sailors helped get her on her back, Captain Weiss realized that she had taken a large shard of broken glass to the right lung and wasn't going to be with them for much longer. As she laid dying, Admiral Mercia looked at Captain Weiss and the sailors around her and said "You all have done me proud, you have served with bravery and I want all of you to continue to serve gallantly to exact vengeance on all those who have wronged [Redacted] and us. Now go and help those who are in the water and on the other ships." With that, Admiral Mercia breathed her final breath and passed.

As the sailors helped their brethren out of the sea, Captain Weiss withheld his own emotions and stoically assisted in helping tend to the wounded even though they didn't have adequate facilities on any of the ships to assist them. Since so many sailors were injured, they were forced to put the injured on the exposed deck of the "Sol Maris" which resulted to many of them being exposed to residual radiation from the blast. The only thing the surviving members of the [Redacted] navy could do was wait and hope that the T.C.N. task force was able to reach them in time.

30 years ago - 1:00 P.M. November 24 -150 miles/241.4 kilometers off the northwest coast of The Chuck and 240 miles/386.2 kilometers off the northeast coast of [Redacted]

Captain Nathaniel Halsey aboard the T.C.N. Zephyr was cursing under his breath as his fleet sped towards the last known location of his N.A.N.O. allies after receiving word that their country had been hit in a preemptive nuclear strike and that their Task Force was in trouble of potentially being hit. Had it not been for some ****ing peace loving hippies who had surrounded his carrier with small craft then he would have been there able to support his N.A.N.O. allies. As he cursed, a bright flash suddenly appeared directly ahead on the horizon. With a sense of horror, the sailors in the Chuckian Naval Taskforce watched as a mushroom cloud formed over where their allies had been just a moment ago. As they watched in shock as the mushroom cloud lazily reached for the heavens, a radio squawked out a command ordering all naval ships back to port in case The Chuck was about to be struck next. Captain Halsey tried to adamantly refuse and tried arguing that there might be survivors but the pleas fell on the deaf ears of the bastards back at Command. With a heavy heart he ordered his ships to turn around and to sail back to Charle's Rock to defend it from attack. However, no more nuclear weapons would be used that day.

30 years ago - 3:00 P.M. November 25 – 300 miles/482.8 kilometers off the northwest coast of The Chuck and 90 miles/144.8 kilometers off the northeast coast of [Redacted]

Captain Weiss couldn't hold in his emotions any longer. It had been more then 24 hours since he had requested that they receive aid from the T.C.N. Had The Chuck planned on assisting their allies then their ships should have been here by now. But now the radioactive fallout was falling out of the sky upon the wounded on the deck exposing the badly burned and blistered sailors to the horrors of radiation poisoning. With tears streaming down his face, Captain Weiss ordered groups of his sailors to don protective suits and go topside and put all the wounded sailors out of their misery before dumping them overboard. As he watched from the blasted out remains of the tower, he remembered Admiral Mercia's words from the previous day about exacting vengeance against those had wronged them and swore an oath to pursue Captain Halsey and inflict the same kind of pain that he was experiencing at that moment with losing his commander, nation, and friends.

2 weeks ago - Office of Commerce and Shipping, The Chuck

Commissioner Nathaniel Halsey sat fuming in his chair while he read reports about the pirate attacks in
recent months. For the past 4 months cargo ships have been attacked by a mysterious force. Every time the ships were able to get out an emergency radio transmission but when scout aircraft reached the last known location, no survivors and no signs of the ships were ever found. Just 3 hours earlier today a convoy was attacked with the loss of 3 oil tankers (O.T.), 2 Destroyer Escorts (D.E.), and 5 Fast Attack Craft (F.A.C.). Total tonnage lost was 4.5 million barrels of oil valued at 271,350,000 NSD. A squadron of amphibious S.T.O.V.L. multi-role aircraft had been dispatched to search for survivors and signs of the ships but no one had high hopes. As Nathaniel Halsey waited for word from the search aircraft he sat and mulled over the ways to combat this menace. Suddenly a pager went off on the table. Without looking at it, he knew that it was President Walter Sobchak summoning him to the War Room for his report and suggestions on how to combat the piracy problem. Quickly he grabbed a stack of blank contracts and a tablet off his desk and walked out the door.

Down in the war room President Sobchak had a scowl on his face when Halsey entered. "HALSEY! As of this attack this morning these ****ING pirates have cost The Chuck well over 10 Billion Red Necks! This isn't a game of 10-pin bowling Halsey! What are you going to do to combat these squirrely little bastards?" Halsey looked at President Sobchak and pulled out a piece of weathered looking contract paper and handed it to him as he spoke, "Sir, we have calculated that if we keep losing cargo and warships at this rate then we will be without a fleet in 8 months. What I am about to say is off any record book as of the moment but if you give my office clearance then we will be able to proceed legally. After the attack two weeks ago, I contacted a private military company (P.M.C.) out of The Selkie, you know, the same country where Silverport Dockyards LTD. is located. The P.M.C. I contacted was the Bristeach Company. This company signed this Letter of Marque and Reprisal and they have a contingent of personnel and ships on the way. If we were to start issuing these to other firms and companies like them then we could grant private civilians or contractors the legal right to hunt down these pirates and protect our shipping. If they defeat or capture any of these pirate forces then they are able to legally keep the captured spoils once they clear it with our Admiralty Court. This way we prevent the lose of our warships while still maintaining the ability to protect oceanic commerce and possible eliminate this pirate threat. On top of that, we could offer a bounty per pirate brought in which could help us pinpoint where they are headquartered out of as additional incentive to capture these scoundrels alive." Walter Sobchak looked down at the Letter of Marque and Reprisal and then looked at Halsey with a large shit-eating grin. "Do it."

Random Number Generator Factors

1-100 Random Number Generator

Escorting Mission

Spins:

1. Whether you are attacked or not. Number of escorted ships will determine range (Escort vessels do not count towards likely hood of attack).
a. 1-2 escorted ships 1/10 odds of being attacked (1-10 = attacked, 11-100 = safe)
b. 3-5 escorted ships 1/5 odds of being attacked (1-20 = attacked, 21-100 = safe)
c. 6-10 escorted ships 2/5 odds of being attacked (1-40 = attacked, 41-100 = safe)
d. 11+ escorted ships 4/5 odds of being attacked (1-80 = attacked, 81-100 = safe)

2. If attacked, the next spin will determine the size of attacking force.
a. 1-40 1 to 4 small skiffs/patrols/fasts attack craft and maybe a small mothership (WW2 Era destroyer escort or smaller).
b. 41-60: 1 mothership (Corvette), 5-10 small boats, and 1 reconnaissance plane/helicopter (increases chances of second attack).
c. 61-75: 1 Frigate, 1 Corvette, 12 small boats, and 1 attack plane/helicopter.
d. 76-90: 1 Cruiser, 2 Frigates, 2 Corvettes, 16 small boats and 3 attack planes/helicopters.
e. 91-98: 2 Cruisers, 3 Frigates, 1 Submarine, 2 dozen small boats, and 5 attack planes/helicopters.
f. 99-100: Full enemy fleet including command ship.

I will continue to update this and balance it if it becomes a problem.

Thread Rules

1. This is an open thread but to join you must go to viewtopic.php?f=6&t=454209 and fill out a Letter of Marque and Reprisal request. Please try and RP it over there as I will RP a response through here.

2. The pirates are part of my RP duties. If you want to RP as a pirate, please telegram me so we can discuss the possibility.

3. I will use a random number generator to determine different events and factors of the roleplay. These include:
-If you encounter pirates when you are escorting ships or searching for pirates
-size of the pirate force that you encounter (includes effectiveness of their attack)
-amount of riches and materials plundered from said pirates.
-Small chance to find the pirate's base (won't be implemented until I can finish writing the story for that part.
-I may remove or add RNG factors as the story progresses. I will try and inform all participants when I do.
-amount of materials plundered by the pirates if they are successful.

4. If the pirates are able to successfully plunder cargo ships, they will use the cash to expand the number of ships they have (If they are pirates I am RPing).

5. No Godmodding nor Metagaming allowed.
-Can't use a satellite to figure out where the pirate base is. But GPS guided munitions are allowed.
-Can't send in a whole navy. You can bring in aircraft carriers but only 1 allowed per participant. If the RNG is bad, there is a very real possibility that your carrier could be sunk.
-If you successfully attack the pirates and capture loot, you can use it to bring more friendly ships into the RP.
-My say is final as the OP.

6. The technology of this world is any technology from around WW2 to Modern times. However, if you for some reason want to use older tech, I won't stop you. Just be informed that the newer tech you use, the more likely it is that you'll walk away alive and kicking.

7. If you have any questions about this RP or how to participate in it, please don't hesitate to shoot me a telegram. This is my first RP in a long time and my first one on Nation States, I appreciate constructive criticism to improve the experience for all involved!

8. If you join this RP while a convoy or another action is in progress, you must wait until it is over until you can join the next one.

9. Rules are susceptible to change at any time. I will work on staying on top of it and contacting participants if this is an issue.

10. Be polite, be professional, and expect to kill some of those you meet.

11. Have fun!

From: Captain Áed Bristeach of the Tribe of Navan, aboard the Bristeach.

Dear Sir,
consider it done.

Signed,
Áed Bristeach of the Tribe of Navan.

OPV Ribín Gorm, forming up with the trade convoy.
Personally, Commander Kennett Clapsholas of the Tribe of Wicklow thought, that they were overreacting. There were two tankers and from the Bristeach Company alone, four vessels came along.
One was his own Ribín Gorm, named in honour of the Last High Queen, who had, as the legend went, beheaded her husband (aptly known as the Last High King) while having an orgasm. Selkie History was sometimes a weird place.
Then, there was the Féar, a Pattern 253 Freighter equipped for salvaging operations.
And, of course, the two Claíohm-class Frigates Francach and Luchóg, which the SDF had wanted to scrap. These 95 metres long frigates had been in service since the 70s, had gone through the Second Vellenge War in 1983 and were now to be thrown onto the scrapyard of history.
Equipped with Radar, Sonar, two 40mm AA-guns, one 23-cell RAM, one 135 millimetre dual purpose gun, four torpedo tubes for anti-submarine torpedoes and a whopping ten anti-ship missiles, these frigates were less for the defense and more for the offense.
Defense was the job of the Ribín Gorm.
So, with two of the four Monarcha M-115 Diongbháilte Mark III of the Bristeach in the air, circling above them, searching for enemies, he could have felt at ease.
Could.
He was still unsure about all of this. Commander Clapsholas did not like escorting jobs, because if life taught him one thing, then that the jobs, which seemed easy, were the hardest.
"We are ready, Commander.", his first officer tore him out of his thoughts.
"Wonderful. Now we only need to wait for the fashion models.", he replied and earned snickers. From what he knew about the PPC, their unit was most likely named after someone else, but he definately would prefer the acquaintance of a fashion model rather then such a person.
For a dance, of course.
"The convoy is... ready, too.", his first officer said.
"Yes. And it will be the first convoy in quite a while, which will leave these waters unharmed.", he said and watched, as the convoy arranged itself with the tankers in the middle.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

Oil Tanker (AOT) The Frontier, Preparing to depart Charle's Rock
As his men checked their rifles and fortified the bridge with sandbags and two inch thick steel panels, Captain Henry Alexanderson sat in his chair loading rounds into the tenth magazine for his TCR-15. Prior to boarding the AOT The Frontier and AOT Burnet, each crew member was supplied with two weapons of their choice and hard plate body armor by the Office of Commerce and Shipping. Captain Henry personally selected a TCR-15 rifle and a TCP-9 handgun since they were the same firearms he was issued some twenty years ago when he was a fresh conscript in the military. Although twenty years had passed, he still was able to shoot accurately up to 300 yards while on a moving platform. His first mate carried a TCMG-60 machine gun and a TCPS-12 shotgun. The other crew members each had their own preference of firearms and two crew members even decided to bring a 20mm auto cannon that they had stashed away for occasions just like this. If any force managed to breach their escorts, they wouldn't go down without a fight.

As the crews of the two tankers pushed off and grouped up with the escort vessels from the Bristeach Company and headed towards the open seas they passed Fort Strong. The garrisoned chaplain at Fort Strong stood high in his vestments and blessed the convoy as it headed for open ocean. Along with his blessing, the radio squawked to life and the commander of the fort spoke his own blessings, "Fair winds and following seas men, may you safely return to these shores. To the commander and crews of the Bristeach Company escorts, Go n-eirí an t-ádh leat." With those final words the convoy headed out to link up with the Marinebrigade(Marinebrigade Erhardt,IV. Torpedobootgeschwarder) escorts.

"Kapitan!"
Wilhelm von Saxe-Colburg turned. "Yes?"
"Convoy and Selkie escorts approaching."
Wilhelm smiled. "Good. Let's go, then."

The little squadron-a motley, ragtag band consisting of several (modernized) WW2 torpedo boats, an auxiliary cruiser, and a modernized version of a WW2-era destroyer began to head towards the rendezvous point.

1200hrs Local Time,
Harbourough,
Northern Shackley Isle,
The Imperial Fiefdom of Shackley

The commotion at the port was not unusual this time of year. The upcoming Christmas season brought with it plenty of trade to the island nation and so, in recovery from the Allano-Soviet blockade of the late summer months, business was booming once more.
The crew of the Shackleyan Privateering Ship Warpath pushed their way past the crowds of dockyard workers and tradesmen over the rattling steel gangplank and onto the deck. For such a small private enterprise the Warpath was a rather modern vessel. Only recently had ships of her kind entered service with the coastguard and already they had found their way into the civilian market. Even with the relatively loose gun laws in Shackley "easy" would not be the first word to describe the acquisition of the ship's weapon systems. Fortunately, being a former Navy man, Cpt. Harwood had managed to get his hands on several pieces which would otherwise be unknown to the average buyer, namely:

1) a defective 30mm RARDEN cannon bought for half-price from a Kibbs Royal Armaments Co. warehouse and restored in the first mate's garage
2) Three .50 calibre GAU-19 heavy gatling guns kept as "souvenirs" by some of the crew during their service in the Royal Shackleyan Paramarines
3) A small battery of 3-inch mortars built from commercially available parts kits in the Captain's living-room

Alongside the more-exciting showpieces the crew were all equipped with their own small arms, ranging from cheap high street handguns to milsurp battle rifles and the Captain's own pride-and-joy; a handmade KRA-13 precision rifle in .280 British. As the rest of the crew set about checking the engines and stowing away their personal effects Ron Harwood lovingly stroked the walnut furniture of his rifle and placed it in the display case on the bridge.

When they received the all clear from the port authority the helmsman rocked forth the throttle and ShPS Warpath set off into the North Atlantic to await further news from their patrons in The Chuck.

AOT The Frontier, after rendezvousing with the SMS Pilduski
Captain Henry Alexanderson was in unusually high spirits for someone who had literally been "volun-told" by the Office of Commerce and Shipping to take this death wish of a cargo run. They had successfully linked up with the SMS Pilduski and the other P.P.C. ships and were now steaming south towards Rickrosslavia at a steady 20 knots.

As they chugged along, many of the crew members were still on high alert. Battle buddy groups of two crew members paced the top of the AOTThe Frontier and Burnet with binoculars looking for any sign of trouble while the screening fleet had radar scanning the ocean in a 20 mile radius. All of a sudden, one of the crew members thought she saw a small object sticking up out of the water causing a wake behind it around 900 yards away. As she zoomed in on it, she realized she was looking at an unidentified submarine periscope. Immediately she signaled to the bridge and tacitly pointed towards the position of the submarine.

Upon confirmation that there was indeed a submarine periscope off their port side, Captain Henry signaled the escort ships and informed them of its location. As they continued to watch for any sign of a torpedo heading towards them, he ordered the two sailors who had the 20mm auto-cannon to fire some rounds at it and try to hit the periscope. The two sailors proceeded to swing the gun around and let fly with ten rounds of 20mm ammunition. The water around the periscope proceeded to get kicked up and with the 8th round they put it dead through the middle of the periscope. As soon as they shot the periscope, it started to turn away and submerge. Captain Henry then raised the escorts on the radio, "We put a 20mm through the periscope out there on the port side. It looked like it is turning away but if you men and women want to pursue it, go for it. We will continue course though so don't get to far away in case they are employing wolf pack tactics."

As the convoy steamed away from where they encountered the submarine, a Morse code message was broadcast on VHF radio channel 6, 156.300 MHz. Since the message was broadcast on a standard maritime radio relay frequency, multiple parties heard it including radio operators in The Chuck, the crews of the tankers, and the members of the P.M.C.s. Unfortunately when the message was translated it appeared to be gibberish and many marked it off as either a drunk sailor or a child playing with a Morse code transmitter.

OPV Ribín Gorm.
The morse message was caught by the radio, translated into signs, which made no sense... not to mention the sighting of a periscope.
Commander Clapsholas frowned.
"Hold formation.", he ordered, "Francach and Luchóg, keep on the lookout for submarines. Active pinging. We hold formation and keep a look out for surface and air contacts."
The Ribín Gorm had no own sonar - a tremendous flaw of the vessel, as it now showed. Clapsholas swallowed... this was not good. The enemy had sighted them and if he had to bet, this was a message telling the pirate-buddies, that there was a convoy here.
Francach and Luchóg had sonar and they had anti-submarine torpedoes - not many, but enough to teach possible submersible attackers, that every ship went down once and that some could come up again, but that at the end of the day, a ship once down should stay down.
"All hands... action stations.", he also ordered, "Radio, report sighting of an unidentified submarine contact to the Chuckian Naval High Command."
"Yes, Sir."
And on they went to execute the orders, the first ping running through the waves a moment later.

Charle's Rock The Chuck Office of Commerce and Shipping - War Room
The Bristeach Company had radioed 12 hours ago had informed those present in the planning room of what had gone down. Now Walter Sobchak, and numerous other officials sat around a large table and discussed how they would proceed while Nathaniel Halsey stood next to a board in-front of them. After clearing his throat he spoke up, "Ladies and Gentlemen, as you all now know, our convoy has reached Rickrosslavia but it had been shadowed by a submarine. Our sailors were able to use a 20mm auto-cannon to put a round in the periscope so it had to break contact. Unfortunately we know that it was able to get a radio signal out and possibly contact other ships it is affiliated to. We had requested that as soon as the convoy gets within range of Rickrosslavia that they send a couple escort helicopters to scan the waters around the convoy for that submarine. In the mean time we must prepare more convoys. We have a back log building of orders and supplies that we need. Thankfully, more P.M.C.s have filed for Letters of Marque and Reprisal and we now have a formidable fleet of reputable companies that we can use to help secure our shipping lanes." As soon as he had finished speaking, Janis Coral, deputy paper filer of the Office of Environment (An often overlooked and forgotten office in The Chuck) spoke up, "What do you mean reputable! These 'private military companies' are nothing more then pirates themselves! They commit atrocities and now you have them escorting oil tankers! OIL TANKERS! Oil is responsible for much of the environmental destru..." "SHUT THE HELL UP JANIS!" Interrupted Walter Sobchak. "You're a 'deputy paper filer', let the important people speak! I don't give two possums asses about the environment right now. We need to focus on making sure the economy stays strong and that we are able to assist our allies around the world without being interrupted by pirates or unimportant office workers who are getting a little to mouthy." With that Janis began to sulk and mournfully shuffled out of the room while the other officials watched with blank faces. "Now, we have an important weapons shipment going out in a week. Though right now the crews of The Frontier and the Burnet are enjoying some R&R before returning to The Chuck. This will be a big escort mission since we will be shipping 500 tonnes of small arms and munitions. We'll need to utilize 6 of our Pattern 253 freighters we acquired from Silverport Dockyards LTD. in The Selkie. This will be a massive shipment and I pray that it won't get attacked by those damn pirates but with how big it's looking, I doubt it. Luckily the Bristeach Company and the men and women of II. Marinebrigade(Marinebrigade Erhardt), IV. Torpedobootgeschwarder have proven themselves. If the other P.M.C.s are able to act with their professionalism then we stand a decent chance of getting these weapons through."

AOT The Frontier
After the convoy dealt with the submarine, the crew members of both oil tankers and convoy escorts were on high alert for the rest of their trip. Luckily they managed to reach Rickrosslavia safely and in record time too. As they had neared the Rickrosslavian coast a couple helicopters had flown out to greet them and helped escort the fleet into the harbor. Once they docked, Captain Alexanderson radioed in to The Chuck Office of Commerce and Shipping and verified that they had safely reached Rickrosslavia and had unloaded their cargo of crude oil to the sum of 41,500,000 NSD. Quite a profitable haul even with the two escorting companies. After the forms were filled out for the oil processing plant, Captain Alexanderson verified payments to both the Bristeach Company and the II. Marinebrigade (Marinebrigade Erhardt), IV. Torpedoboot-geschwader*). Now since they had made a clean voyage it was time to see the sights of Rickrosslavia and take some much needed R&R and also maybe try some of that legalized kush...

Rickrosslavia
Wilhelm von Saxe-Colburg smiled at his sailors as he went past. Each one had done reasonably well for their first sortie, and he was proud of them all for that.
He frowned, though, as he remembered the sub and the transmission. Although it had been chased off, their opponents knew now that they were here. And what of the transmission? He had first decoded it from Morse before attempting to see if it was a 'Ceaser Cipher', just in case.

Of course not.
Then he tried feeding a variant with ASCII into it.
No dice.

Might it be a harmless prank?
Perhaps.
But still, he would keep around a sheet of it.

~1900hrs local time,
ShPS Warpath,
Somewhere in the Mid Atlantic

Shadows danced across the cabin as First Mate Nelson twirled his pencil in the lamplight. He'd been at his desk for almost an hour since the long-range receivers picked up the radio transmission. With a keen ear and blank notepad he deciphered the Morse with relative ease -as a former member of the Coastguard learning Morse code had been part of his training- but something wasn't quite right. He sent one of the younger men to take a look at the ESM mast, make sure it was working properly.
"All OK"
Must be some sort of encryption then. He thought little of the pirates and so expected something simple.
Reaching into his desk drawer he grabbed an encoding wheel, primitive stuff they'd all seen in old spy movies. A Caesar cipher, perhaps? He tried every combination to no avail, still gibberish.

At that moment the Captain walked past, steaming mug of tea in his calloused hands.
"Struggling with this week's crossword puzzle, eh Nels?"
"Not exactly, Skipper. Long-range mast picked it up, frequency suggests non-governmental transmission. I reckon it's the pirates but they're using some sort of code." the Mate explained.
"Caesar cipher?"
"No, tried that. Still gibberish."
"Ah, smarter than I thought. Perhaps it's a Patristocrat of some sort?"
"A what?"
The Captain reached into the bookshelf at the First Mate's knee and pulled out a thick paperback which he slid across the desk.
"Try that" Cpt. Harwood slapped First Mate Nelson across the shoulder and walked off to finish his rounds.

Morse code received as audio

OPV Ribín Gorm.
The tankers arrived at their destination safely and securely - and so did the fee for escorting them.
The submarine had them unnerved, but as soon as they got escorts from their country of destination, Rickrosslavia, all was well and good. They were safe.
Now, Commander Clapsholas could relax, after a little something: Amongst their numbers were mostly Selkie-Pagans, himself included, and as pious people, they almost had to thank Lodan Lir and Ladra, the ones, who were God of the Seas and Rivers and God of Helmsmen and Boatsmen respectively.
Their small service, on the foredeck of the Féar, was tended to by their priest, a small service of gratitude and asking for both grace and protection on the return cruise and the next convoy.
Their Captain had already allowed them to have a few days of Rest and Relaxation before they made their return trip.
They did catch the second message, but had no idea about how to decode it - their capabilities were concentrated on traffic analysis, not cryptoanalysis. The question, for them, was, who talked to whom in what quantity and where they were, not what they said.
In a few short days, they would return to the domains of the Gods they were praying to and would take on the next convoy.
Their work was just starting.

Charles Rock - The Chuck Office of Commerce and Shipping - Communications Room
"Commissioner Halsey! The Shackleyer mercenaries have cracked the code! According to them this is what it says:"

"Captain Weiss, a low level employee in the government of The Chuck has contacted us and has given us information about the next shipment by the Office of Commerce and Shipping. they will be using six pattern two five three cargo ships to transport five hundred tonnes of weapons and munitions to another nation. They will be heavily guarded and there is talk of maybe encountering an aircraft carrier. because of this i vouch for sending in at least one cruiser and its accompanying ships and aircraft. If we are successful then we will have more munitions to use against them in the future."

"Shit! We have a fucking mole... Alright, good job son. Don't let anyone know about the mole part but inform all of the P.M.C.s of this information so they can prepare. It looks like we will have a fight on our hands and we mustn't let the pirates know that we have cracked their code. We will continue with the convoy but we will be prepared." As Nathaniel Halsey turned away from the radio operator he was troubled by that name... Captain Weiss, He could swear he had heard it before and now needed to take some time to think to see if he could remember when and where he had heard it...

AOT The Frontier
After taking a few days as R&R in Rickrosslavia the fleet of vessels headed back for Charles Rock. Over the radio they were informed of the meaning of the second message but the crew members aboard The Frontier and the Burnet weren't all to worried for the time being since they deliberately didn't load up with any cargo to make the convoy less of a potential target. Since they weren't loaded down with crude oil the tankers floated higher out of the water and they were able to transit the ocean quicker then on the way out. Within a couple days they would be back in Charles Rock ready to take on the next shipment.

Subject: Escorts for a Weapons Convoy - We Will Be Attacked

The Office of Commerce and Shipping is looking for escorts for a 7 ship supply convoy. We are making two stops on this supply run. Our first stop is in Deutschess Kaiserreich and the next stop will be in the Greater Oceanian Union. Both stops will be done in secrecy and won't involve direct contact with the respective governments. Upon delivery of all containers 25 Million NSD will be wired to each of your respective companies/organizations. Once the convoy has dropped off all of its cargo, it will turn back and head immediately to Charles Rock. We unfortunately know that this time we will encounter the pirates in force. We are expecting at least one or two capital ships and numerous destroyers, frigates, small-boats, and aircraft. Plan accordingly. We will begin preparations to depart once all companies are ready.

Subject: Escorts for a Humanitarian Mission

The Office of Commerce and Shipping is looking for a few of you to escort a humanitarian mission to the island nation of Yamaichi-koku. This will hopefully be an easy mission since we are establishing first contact with this nation. I know we have the other mission which is more important but if you were able to spare a few ships to help escort this mission too it would be much appreciated. After offloading our cargo each company would be paid 2,000,000 NSD. We will be flying humanitarian aid flags so hopefully it prevents this convoy from being attacked. I also will be going along with this convoy as The Chuck's peace ambassador to Yamaichi-koku.

Bristeach, still in the Chuck.
The Seaplane Tender hadn't come along - if it would go according to its Captain, she never would, mainly because she had nothing to do at the front lines.
She was a support vessel, not a battleship.
However, with her aircraft patrolling as the now-empty tankers returned with their escorts, or at least some of them, the reports weren't quite clear yet, the seaplane tender had no reason to be out there either.
Áed Bristeach of the Tribe of Navan, the commander of the mercenary band, however, was worried.
He had no idea, that the messages he had just confirmed the reception of was shortened to not include the crucial part about the mole, but that was not his immediate concern. Much rather, he was interested in the part about the cruiser and the aircraft.
This would be a mess.
He turned to his secretary/aide/staff member, one of the ubiquitous Finnys without which nothing even remotely related to military matters in the Free Lands would work.
"Alright, Finny, I want you to write the following into a message, which one can work with...", he began and she knew, that she had to work on it quite a bit.
In the end, this message came out:

To:
Kapitän zur See Wilhelm von Saxe-Colburg, II. Marinebrigade(Marinebrigade Erhardt), II. Torpedo Boat Squadron.
Captain Ron Harwood, Certified Privateer, Order of the Black Flag, ShPS Warpath.

From: Captain Áed Bristeach of the Tribe of Navan.

Alright, gentlemen, here's the deal: The next one's going to be one heck of doozie.
If intelligence is to be believed, we will have, as our opponents, two larger vessels and aircraft, plus the respective battlegroup. Although there are rumours of an aircraft carrier with us, I have not yet received the corresponding information - so, for now, until we have the corresponding information, we will plan without said carrier.
That, however, does not mean, that we can't 'have' one, so to speak: I contacted an old acquaintance and colleague of mine, who agreed to lending us some of her ships. One of these ships is what she referred to as a 'decoy vessel', which can, with usage of a number of specific systems, mimic the radar signature, the radar emissions and acoustic signature of an aircraft carrier - while not being one itself.
This, coupled with air support, which we might be able to get, could allow us to fool the enemy into staying away from us because we do have a carrier.
Other then that, we will move in close formation, with the vessels with strong radars at the outer edges so that they have the maximum range. We also need ASW-capabilities, if either of you have it - while my frigates have sonar and ASW-torpedoes, their capabilities in this field are limited to that. We will also have air support in the form of the amphibian planes I have, but we hopefully don't need to discuss their value in an air-sea-battle.
As for the relief convoy, I planned to send the Ribín Gorm along, her value in a fight the size we are facing will be more of a liability.
This would be my proposed plan. I hopefully do not need to mention, that these planning sessions stay amongst our number and are only disclosed to those, who absolutely need to know about these plans.

Signed,
Áed Bristeach of the Tribe of Navan

Dear Sir,
thank you very much for the information, we will plan accordingly.
As for the relief convoy, I plan to send the Ribín Gorm along for that one. Commander Clapsholas is a good commander and capable in this field.

Signed,
Áed Bristeach of the Tribe of Navan

Ahoy Captain!
Your plan is certainly a competent one and I must say the idea of decoy ships and airstrikes is most exciting, however I'm not entirely convinced as to the feasibility of the whole thing at least on my part. I must admit that my ship, though modern and well-equipped in her own right, is not exactly suited to the sort of battle that seems to be on the horizon. We are not a large ship, we are not particularly well-armoured and our armaments were chosen with smaller targets in mind; skiffs, makeshift gunboats, perhaps some modified civilian vessels. I certainly did not expect to be taking on aircraft carriers, cruisers and submarines when I packed my sandwiches and set sail last week.
Do not mistake this for cowardice, far from it. I simply wish to make clear my doubts as to the Warpath's viability in a conventional surface engagement against an overwhelming force. We simply do not have the means to engage the expected enemy vessels on their terms and out of our gun range. If you think you can convince me otherwise and put Warpath to good use escorting that weapons convoy then I'm all ears.
Otherwise I think it best that my men and I stick to escorting the humanitarian mission to Yamaichi-koku, a task for which a fast cutter like my own is well-suited.

Thank you for your patience and good business,
Ron Harwood,
Captain of The Warpath

Hello, we have been following each of you closely and have decided that you should all be informed of our plans. The convoy heading for Deutschess Kaiserreich and Greater Oceanian Union is carrying a large amount of weapons and ammunition. However, anyone with half a brain who looks at the shipping manifests will notice that it can all easily be loaded onto six ships instead of seven. One the ships is a "Q-Ship" and will be heavily armed. I cannot specify which ship it will be but I can say with certainty that it will possess multiple forms of defending itself, your ships, and the normal supply ships. Members of some "organizations" close with the government have been overhauling this ship and have equipped it with numerous light attack helicopters and other defenses. However, it is still not strong enough to take on capital ships in a one on one fight. Even though the convoy looks like it will be outmatched I am certain that all of you will be able to work together to figure something out.
