The Pathfinder (FT, INTRO, OPEN)

Postby The Four Heatons » Wed Apr 07, 2010 3:03 pm

Personnel Diary, Jessica Stanford, Federation President
Twelve years ago today was the day we lost. The Federation as we knew it was being over-run by the Borg, and Starfleet couldn’t stop them, they were less than an hour away from Earth when a Miracle happened. A Certain Single-lettered entity which shall not be named, intervened, it appeared that the federation had at last managed to impress him, perhaps because we passed up the opportunity to utterly defeat the Borg, but something that would have cost countless billions of innocent lives. Regardless of his reasons, he transported Earth, and its entire solar system, and the many billions of sentient beings currently in-system, across space. But as it turned out, it wasn’t just across space; it was into a completely different universe, far removed from that which we knew.

In this changed reality, we changed who and what we are, we have remained in this one system for twelve years, renaming it not earth, but Four Heaton, although exactly why that name was chosen remains unclear. What is clear however, that in that time, Starfleet and the rest of the Citizens of the Federation had no time for exploration, or any other matters that so concerned us. We were struggling to survive. Now however, we’ve managed, at long last, to construct sufficient Orbital Habitats, that are now spread across the system, and to terraform, albeit basically, planets such as Venus, to enable us to return what little remains of the United Federation of Planets, to what it used to be; Free from War, Poverty disease. And now at long last, Starfleet can return to its three-fold mission; Exploration, Defence and Diplomacy. And in this brand-new universe, they truly can go where no one has gone before.

U.S.S Pathfinder
Four Heaton III Orbit

Alex Munro, a twenty year veteran of Starfleet, and widely considered one of the Best Starship Captains in the fleet. Tall, with dark brown hair, sharp blue eyes, Alex gave off a reassuring commanding presence to his crew, and appeared somewhat intimidating when angry.

Standing on the Bridge of the newly commissioned USS Pathfinder Captain Alexander Munro couldn’t help but reflect on how fitting the name of his ship was. The Pathfinder, and her class-mates, were the ships that were going to commence Starfleet’s efforts to explore this strange new universe that they had found themselves in. And it was certainly the ship to do it. Like the rest of the Fleet, over the past twelve years, Starfleet had re-built it’s diminished numbers back up to a respectable size, 115 Starships now made up the Federation Starfleet. In the last dozern years, Starfleet had moved away from Dedicated Explorers with limited weaponry, to a more pragmatic approach.

Although today’s starships were still more than capable of Exploration missions, they found themselves being labelled ‘Tactical Explorers’ and other similar names to show their new roles. It may not be the Starfleet that Alex grew up with, but it was a much more effective Starfleet. The Pathfinder was the epitome of this new philosophy. Yes, she held the most advanced sensors ever to be fitted onto a Federation Starship, and yes she was perhaps the most capable explorer that Starfleet had ever fielded. But the critical difference from Starfleet designs of the last two hundred years is her ability to defend herself, with her also having the most advanced tactical systems that Starfleet had ever designed, both in Computers and the weapons themselves, Pathfinder was a new breed of Starship, one that was now the Majority of Starfleet.

Looking out the large viewports on either side of the large view screen, Alex could see the flotilla of Vesta-Class starships, the back-bone of the new Starfleet that was providing honour-guard for the new Federation Flagship. The Vesta-Class, whilst smaller than the Pathfinder, is only slightly less capable, making a ideal design for the Workhorse of the fleet. The six Vesta’s peeled off as the Pathfinder left Four Heaton III’s Orbit and headed back into their positions in varying places of orbit. Alex turned and settled into the Command chair as the ship headed further out into the system, on a course that would take them past each of the planets before jumping to warp on a random heading.

Alex settled into his command chair as the Pathfinder picked its way through the asteroid belt, he decided quickly that it was the most comfortable chair that he had sat in, he noted the computer in the armrests of the chair and checked the ships status on the consoles before looking up at the viewscreen as it showed the area that Pathfinder was passing through. For the next twenty minutes or so he merely sat there as reports poured into the bridge of the ships status. Once he was satisfied, he gave the order.

I've assumed you wanted someone/somewhere to stumble upon, so allow me to present myself. Will remove if neccessary. Also, don't worry about The Rethast - that's merely a reference to another thread

Edge Of United Extrasolar Kingdom Territorial Space
LADAR Site 21-B

The strange contraptions hummed and whirred and generally did what they were programmed to do; scan surrounding space for anything that was trying to sneak in or blast past the defences of the Extrasolar Kingdom. This far out, there was little life. The LADAR site was unnmaned, at least at this end, and the nearby V2 Defence Station Enfield was only staffed by a skeleton crew. A Spitfire patrol once a Solar Month was common, as was the supply ship to Enfield every weekend. Otherwise, those on Enfield probably wouldn't see another living soul untill their R&R came around every six Solar Months. It was, for lack of a better word, a lonely, desolate existance. Unless of course, you had someone to share such an existance.

It was hard to tell when it was day and when it was night out as far as Enfield. It was never pointed at the planets, or the sun, so it was down to guesswork or the clocks if you wanted to know what the time was. Else, you just fell asleep and woke up when your co-worker threw the clipboard at you. Yet for Jenny Long, one of the crew on board Enfield Station, things were somewhat tense. The Rethast had already infiltrated the JSA Council and delivered their warning. Intelligence was all over the shop, and they were expecting an imminent attack from any direction. The Royal Navy was on high alert and gas-masks had been broken out on the planets.

Jenny was daydreaming now, her mind exploring the deepest recesses of the blackness before them. Stars twinkled, but otherwise there was no movement. Nothing to suggest The Rethast was coming here. And then...

SLAM!

Jenny nearly jumped out of her skin as the clipboard came down onto the control dashboard beside her. She turned, breathing heavily and looking rather pale, to see one of her co-workers grinning slyly

"Did I wake you?" the man asked, leaving the clipboard alone and leaning against the control panel

"Areth!" Jenny replied angrily, checking the clock behind him "It's not your shift yet. What are you doing here?"

Areth looked out of the window, also enjoying the stars momentarily, before turning back to her

"Couldn't sleep. Bad dreams, you know" he said, as if he knew she was going through the same

"Yeah, I know" she admitted "But these readings say nothing"

"Well, I don't like it" Areth said, looking away "It's too quiet"

The Random Vector of the Pathfinder had brought it to this Starsystem. They had slowed down to a lower warp factor to run sensor sweeps of the system prior to entering it, a new protocal designed to prevent a Federation Starship from jumping somehwere it didn't belong. As it appeared to be a relativly quiet system, there was little chance of a hostile engagement so it was approved and the ship returned to it's high warp speed. Alex quickly got a status report from the gathered senior staff that had reported to the bridge, wanting to be on hand for the first contact with an non-federation power in over a decade, it was a big moment for all, and aside from determinaing future relations, it would also be the make or break of the Careers of all personnel on-board the Pathfinder. Reciving greens across the board, Alex turned to the Ensign at helm.
"Drop us out of Warp Ensign" He ordered.

Seconds later the Pathfinder dropped out of warp, the large yet sleek Starship slowly rapidly to full impulse as it approached the station that they had detected. To anyone scanning it the Pathfinder wouldn't look threatening, as it's shields were deactivated and it's weapons powered down. Never the less, Alex ordered the Helm officer to make the ship look as non-threatening as possible, as much a large Starship can look non-threatening when bearing down on a Space Station. It was as this though was running through Alexs' mind that he remembered it would be best to hail the station before they got jumpy. He nodded to the Lieutenant Junior Grade at comms: Beth Turner, who opened a channel and nodded.

Space Station, this is Captain Alex Munro of the Federation Starship Pathfinder, we come in peace, please respond.

The night - or day - dragged on even longer. Areth had not even attempted to return to bed, instead choosing to shovel some coffee down him and keep going, despite his tiredness. He and Jenny remained on station together, talking about everything and anything under the stars as she waited for her shift to end.

The clock struck 11. Day or night, her shift was over. Sighing gently, she got up from her chair, moved to the kitchen area to tidy away her mug, and turned back to Areth

"I really need to get some sleep, Areth" Jenny said, removing the band and letting her auburn hair fall freely to her shoulders "Much as I would love to stay up and discuss the Prime Minister's favorite colour, I haven't the energy right now"

"Alright. But just think about it, OK?" Areth joked. Jenny stared back at him, seemingly pre-occupied with something. He looked at her too. She seemed to be rooted to the spot. "Jen?" Areth asked

"Areth" she replied shakily, pointing at him "Is that light supposed to be blinking?"

Areth spun on the spot. Sure enough, the bright red light was flashing. Areth took a closer look, donning a pair of reading glasses to read the label underneath. It read, in big letters; LADAR Contact Warning. He shot back up, a look of terror on his face as the reality set in. Something was coming. Seeing his face, Jenny quickly ran to her own station, and they immediately activated the warning systems, alerting nearby vessels that they had a contact. It would also rely the contact to LADAR Control on the planet's surface. Whatever was coming, it wouldn't get far. Another light flashed at them

"They're hailing us!" Areth exclaimed, not quite registering what was going on right now "Why would the Rethast hail us?"

"Because they're not The Rethast" Jen said, calming. The ship was in view now. It was beautiful, by her standards, and she'd seen the Titanic II up close. "Open the channel" she demanded, to which Areth did.

Space Station, this is Captain Alex Munro of the Federation Starship Pathfinder, we come in peace, please respond.

"Captain Munro, this is Enfield Station. We are a border patrol station for the United Extrasolar Kingdom. Please submit an ID Code, designation and your business in Extrasolar Territory" Jen replied, smartly.

The Pathfinder sat lazily a few dozern Kilometers of the station that they were currently conversing with. Although it appeared motionless, the ship was actually abuzz with activity. The ships powerful sensors were sweeping the station, planet and system to garner as much information as possible to be put into the Federation database. Based on the responce they had got they had come across a major interstellar power and due to the relative proximitry of the power to what now consituted Federation space, all the information they could get would prove useful. That said, Starfleet is nothing if not Diplomatic, so the gathering of Tactical Data would hopefully only be a precaution.

Alex read the pre-lim sensor scans of the station before noding to comms once more.

Enflield Station, this is U.S.S Pathfinder NCC-76500, Representing the United Federation of Planets. We are peaceful Explorers and our only intentions are to make formal contact with your nation.

In the Pathfinders large, two-deck tall, mess hall, Ensign Tom Baker and Beth Turner, the latter who had been relieved on the bridge by the next duty officer, sat looking out at the station. They were happily discussing the new people they had met. Commenting on how they were among the first starfleet officers in a decade to meet a new people. The Mess hall was buzzing, with most people discussing exactly the same subject, drinks were being passed around, although they weren't alcholic, just in case hostile intentions were found to be the case, and the personnel needed to scramble to battlestations.

"Sir, we have some kind of massive mulitverse-transition that seems to have occured from the M-4 to K-1 universes. A galaxy containing inteligent life transfered from the M-4 to K-1." reported Minor Neg Haar'.

"An entire galaxy? What caused it?" replied Major Chris Turner.

"Unknown. Should I dispatch a ship to investigate?"

"Yes. Alert the Grand Military Board. They'll want to know about this."

The ETN Fusion was a Mongoose class stealth frigate. It was designed to sneak close to ships undetected. It slipped out of warp within a remote area of the galaxy.
"Sir, we're a few systems away from the transition. Stealth mode is active." reported Minor Fu-ner

"Good work Fu-ner. Minor Waskel, bring us closer to the center of inteligent life. Be careful though, we don't know how many ships survived it." comanded Captain Jon Howe.

Prime Minister's Office
New London, Planet Ozymos

"They've picked up what?" Desmond Churchland asked into the phone, his own daydream state broken by the information Jodrell Bank was relaying from Enfield. The current situation was being kept secret, so officially only the crew of Enfield, Jodrell Bank and the Prime Minister knew. Unofficially, the rumour mill had begun, and most people waited for the official announcement with bated breath - that is, those who hadn't donned their gasmask and dived into the nearest bomb shelter as soon as they heard.

"A ship, Sir. And it seems friendly" the boffin on the other end replied

"Aye, The Rethast used that ploy to weasel their way onto Delta Capita. Look how that ended" Desmond replied gruffly "Still, they could have wiped Enfield off the star chart on arrival if they wanted to. Maybe they mean what they say"

He took a moments pause to reach a desicion, during which time a Spitfire flew past overhead, and a car horn could be heard, along with soft jazz music

"Give them permission to pass" he said, finally, before adding "And send some Spits out there to escort them in"

He didn't wait for an answer. He simply put the phone down.

"Yes sir, right away" Areth's voice replied, putting down the phone on the control panel, as he turned to Jenny to relay the news "Let them pass. Desmond's orders. Tell them to link up with Spitfire Patrol Gamma Six if they intend to enter our space"

Jenny nodded, opening the communications to the Pathfinder

"U.S.S Pathfinder, you're A-OK. You are cleared to enter Extrasolar Territory at this time" Jenny informed them "Be advised, tensions are high throughout the System. As such, we'll be assigning a fighter patrol to you should you choose to enter our territory. Navy Patrol Gamma Six will link up with you just beyond the marker buoy, should you wish to enter. Either way, good flying"

Alex smiled and sighed with relief as they were permitted inwards without conflict. He dismissed his senior staff back to their duties and allowed the next crew shift to report for duty. At the same time he disappeared into his ready room for a few minutes and sent a status report back to Starfleet Command back on Four Heaton. Upon returning to the bridge he instructed his yeoman to get him a coffee as he turned to his officers.
"Helm, take us to the marker bouy, half-impulse until their fighter escorts meet up with us, then scan their fighters and find out their maximum speed and go to it" He ordered before turning to the relief Comms officer "Send a reciet message to the Station and give them our thanks"

The Officers nodded and got about their work. The sleek starship turned sharply and headed towards the marker bouy, moving slower than they had when they first arrived to allow these fighters to reach them before they entered the Extrasolar Kingdoms' space. As they did this a message was sent to the station.

Roger that station, on course now, thanks for your hospitality, Pathfinder out

Down in the mess hall a cheer went up as the news filtered down from the bridge, and the personnel occuping the room relaxed visably as it became clear they weren't in iminant danger of being attacked. Tom and Beth also relaxed as they sat and looked out at the stars.

Pilot Officer Jimmy Broadmore loved these runs. To him, there was nothing better than being sat in the cockpit of a machine as good and as legendary as this one. The Supermarine Spitfire. Even 50 years after the old girl had actually seen real combat - during the First Extrasolar War - she was still in service. To be flying one of these, as opposed to the clapped out Polikarpov's from Aurelia, or the Stukas based on New Berlin, was a privelidge - no, an honour.

He looked out of the cockpit. Across the classic eliptical wing, there were three more Spitfires, flying straight and true towards the marker buoy. His wing men, affenctionally known as Larry, Curly and Moe - respectfully - had been with himm for a long time, and even though they'd not seen much action, they'd seen their fair share of scrapes, to be sure. Upon spotting the Pathfinder, he signalled for his group to take flanking positions alongside the ship before contacting them

"U.S.S Pathfinder, this is Pilot Officer Jim Broadmore, Royal Extrasolar Navy, at your service" Jim informed them, bringing his own craft carefully alongside the bridge. The Spitfire was a spartan craft. It had no video-links or anything like that. Just a radio. "We've been assigned to escort you throughout our space" Jim continued "So, where would you like to go first?"

The Crew of the Pathfinder watched with interest, either from their stations, courtesy of visual feeds, or out of viewports as the fighters appraoched them and assumed positions around the starship. The ships sensors almost immediatly scanned them and routed the data to the helm officer who altered the ships speed approriatly. Although for many of the officers on-board the Pathfinder, it wasn't their first time encountering fighters, for some of the younger ones it was. Although Starfleet had some starfighters, the Pathfinder herself currently carrying a squadron of eight Valkeryes, and having a capacity for thirty-two such fighters, they weren't common, although there was a fleet carrier proposal on the drawing board. As a result, these fighters were garnering much attention from the younger crew-members. Indeed in the mess, Tom and Beth were all but gawking at the fighters outside.

Meanwhile on the Bridge, Alex was speaking to the new female at the comms station, this officer; A Lietuenant Junior Grade Trillian female, was listening intently and nodded before responding to the fighters.

Pilot Officer, this is USS Pathfinder, our primary objective in our missions of exploration is to make diplomatic contact, so where-ever you suggest is best for such matters.

"Ah, diplomacy eh?" Jim replied to the comm's officer "You'll be wanting to meet The Boss then"

He flicked channels, speaking to the nearest Spitfire

"Curly, be a dear and inform Desmond he's got visitors" he said, in his ever-so-slightly upper-class voice

"Righto, old chap" Curly replied, his voice quite similar. Jim flicked channels back to the Pathfinder's to update them of their current status

"Right then Pathfinder" he began, ajusting a few settings "The City Of New London, Planet Ozymos" he informed them, before realising that he had no way of giving them direct co-ordinates, he then added "That one, right in front"

Opening the throttle, the big Rolls-Royce engines pushed the craft forwards and soon they were all running along nicely. They'd soon be in orbit above Ozymos, at which point they'd have to get all kinds of clearance to park there. Red tape - the common enemy of peace a freedom everwhere.

USS Pathfinder

The crew of the Pathfinder settled down for the trip, taking advantage of the time, both to run sensor sweeps of the system and the vessels and planets in it, but also to use the spare time to get on with personnel projects, nearly-due reports and various other devils of ship-board life. Yet others were taking advantage of the ships crew-facilities, of which their were numerous, as befitting the ships status as the most advnaced in the fleet. After all aside from those on duty or catching up with paperwork there was very little to do in missions such as this. So it was that the Pathfinder found itself flying through space.

On the bridge, Alex was putting together his away team that would be going down to the planet, assumeing they were allowed. He would obviosuly be going as a Starfleet Captain, his Security officer a must to appease his First officer, who would have to remain on-ship, the Diplomatic officer would also make sense, as perhaps would be the science officer, but he had yet to decide. He noted Commander Tessa Allen to his left glaring at him, her way of reminding him of the regulation that forbit CO's from going on an away mission without armed escort, which obviously wouldn't be allowed. He merely smiled back, informing her that her Objection had been noted, but he was going to overrule her, and that he would promise to wear a discrete transport beacon to ensure a transporter lock. Tessa rolled her eyes as she got back on with her work. As they approached the planet, Alex turned to Comms.

Planet Ozymos
Orbit

A message was sent out to the Pathfinder from the STC Control Tower at Goonhilly Downs, with the following instructions;

"U.S.S Pathfinder, you are cleared to enter a standard geo-symmetrical orbit at this time. The Prime Minister will meet you at New London City Airport. Good flying." the controller told them, before switching over channels to speak to another ship "Negative RMS Olympic, the pattern is full. You'll be cleared to proceed when it's free"

As they said this, a large cruise liner floated past the Pathfinder. From it's many portholes, people with cameras were getting shots of the newcomer. Perhaps this wouldn't be as bad as everyone had first expected.

Jim listened carefully to his own entry instructions before switching radio channels to the Pathfinder

"I've my clearance to land at New London, Pathfinder" he informed them "My wingmen will keep an eye on your ship. For now, see you on the surface"

Nosing the plane over, he opened the throttle and dived into the atmousphere.

Planet Ozymos
New London City Airport

There was brisk breeze on the air now. It had to be a cold day for these visitors to arrive - typical Ozymosian weather. Along the runway, lines of passenger aircraft waited to be used - Junkers Ju-552's, Avro Lancastrians, Consolidated Catalinas. These craft carried passengers across the bredth of the world, and then some. The Junkers 552's were Lufthansa, in from New Berlin. The Chancellor of New Berlin had sent his own personal representatives, but could not attend personally.

A car pulled up to the airport, just as the Spitfire - weaving in between the cables holding up the Barrage Balloons - came to a nice controlled landing on the tarmac. Pulling into a parking space, Desmond Churchland stepped from the car, clad in a long black coat and a black bowler hat. Using his walking stick, he limped over to the assembled dignitaries and quickly conversed with them as they awaited the newcomer's arrival.

U.S.S Pathfinder

As the Starship slipped into a standard orbit, the crew secured their stations for planetery orbit. As this happened, Alex left the bridge and made his way down to the transporter room. As he walked through the corridors of the Starship, he was joined by Lt Commander Greg Torkleson his Security officer and Lt Commander Ken(neth) Turner as they walked through the ship. They had soon reached the transporter room and were being fitted with their transporet beacons, which consisted of special implants in their Com-badges. Shortly before beaming down they all looked at the sensor read-out of their destination. They then walked to the equiptment lockers and got out General-purpose Jackets. They looked exactly the same as the normal-starfleet uniforms upper jacket, but were much warmer, water-proof, and had ablative armour fibres on the outer surface, giving them a certain amount of protection from both Projectile weapons and energy weapons, although on this occasion it was for the warmth that they were chosen. Munro led the way onto the Transporter pad and turned to the operator.

Planet Ozymos
New London City Airport

It should be noted that upon the group's arrival, the entire welcoming party was looking to the skies, expecting some sort of shuttle or spacecraft to land at the airport. So when the group materialised next to them, there was understandable shock. To the point that one of the guards quickly leveled his Enfield Gauss Rifle at the group, although Churchland's hand pushed the rifle down upon seeing them.

He was a man of stature. His beady eyes narrowed as he donned a pair of glasses, just in case he was seeing things. He looked the group up and down, and once he was satisfied that they were actually there, removed the glasses. Slotting them into his breast pocket, he limped forward to the leader, outstretching a hand in welcoming

"Captain Alex Munro, I presume?" Churchland asked, looking at the group, his own familiar looking on "Prime Minister Desmond Churchland. Welcome to New London"

Murno smiled as she stepped forward to greet the Prime Minister. He hadn't noticed the suprise of the group when they materialized and figured that they probably should have told them that they were planning on beaming down.

"Good to meet you Prime Minister, thank you for the welcome" Munro replied "I apologise for any suprise our arrival caused"

The two other officers held back, scanning the group, although for two different reasons. Torkleson, being a security officer, was keeping an eye out for anything that might pose a threat to his Captain, paying attention to the guards with the rifles. Turner meanwhile was scanning the group, to see if he could get any kind of idea on what role they might play in this planets government. Munro meanwhile was focused on the man in front of him.

The Fusion moved through space. Silent and stealthy, all shields and weapon's systems were powered off and its stealth cloke was on. There was no way to see the ship ofr pick it up on any sensors.

"Sir, there's a small dwarf planet (Pluto) ahead of us. Sensors are picking up large mass of lifeforms on the planets ahead." said Minor Fu-Ner.

"We're most likely going to pick up on some ships. Ready a message if we find any. This is probably a major center, if not the capital, of this civilization. We need to make peace with this nation. They may be important to us in the future." replied Captain Jon Howe

USS Perseus
Four Heaton Star System

On the edge of the Solar system, around the orbit of Pluto, between the planet itself and the Kuiper belt, the Achilles-Class starship Perseus moved slowly around the perimiter of the system. The Heavy-hitting Cruiser consituted a perfect ship to be the first ship that any attacking forces would be likely to meet. As it would likly defeat many individual ships, and be able to hold off groups of ships long enough for reinforcements to arrive. The Achilles-Class is essentially a larger more powerful ship based on the Defiant class design. The Achilles-Class from a visual point of view follows the design liniage of the Soveriegn and Intrepid class starships, being extremly sleek. Slightly smaller than a Galaxy class ship, the Achilles size however is deceptive as she is one of the hardest hitting ships in the fleet, courtesy of numerous updated versions of the powerful Pulse Phaser cannons on the Defiant, several type XII Phaser arrays and four Quantum/Photon Torpedo tubes. Whilst the majoirty of her firepower is forward facing, she makes up for this by the revolutionary Phalanx Micro-Quantum system, spread across the dorsal hull, this covers the entire upper hemisphere of the ship allowing her to rain significant firepower, courtesy of the Quantum torpedos' whilst keeping her main Phaser and Torpedo tubes targeted on the biggest hostile.

On the bridge, Captain Rick Benning watched on the viewscreen, the sensors had recently picked up a very faint contact, and only for very short time, but it was long enough for benning to decide that they needed to investigate.

Desmond continued to keep an eye on Alex's group, still not entirely convinced they actually came in peace. However, since they hadn't shot anyone or blown anything up yet, he figured that they were better than the majority of people they had come across

"Forget about it Captain. The tensions here are not of your doing, so I apolagise for the stiff greetings you'll have had" he replied, before turning slightly to the side, where the group who had assembled to meet Alex's team waited eagerly

"Captain, may I present some of the system's most respected political, social and scientific minds" Desmond began, as a pair of tall people - a man and a woman - stepped forward to greet them "Representing the Federal Republic Of Crimsone and the United Socialist States Of Aurellia, Vice-Chancellor Steffi Holst and Vice-President Germogen Yulian, respectively"

The two bowed slightly, and the woman - Steffi - spoke, a suarve gemanic accent to her voice;

"Captain, velcome to New London" Steffi said "I would hope, during your time here, zat you get a chance to visit New Berlin. It is quite a sight"

With their greeting over, they stepped aside, allowing the next pair to step forward. Desmond introduced them too

"Representing the United States Of Persephone and the Fourteen Colonies Of Rykan, Vice-President
Darnell Rimmer and Shogun Makoto Tomiko, respectively"

The two merely bowed to the Captain, but remained silent for the time being. The sense of distrust towards the outsiders was probably more apparent than Desmond would have wished. As such, once Rimmer and Tomiko had stepped aside, he stepped forward to Alex

"I presume you've come a long way, Captain?" Desmond asked, indicating the cars that had just arrived with his free hand "I'm told you came here for the purposes of diplomacy. Tell me, from where do you hail?"

New London

Alex nodded polietly to each of the digniteries. Neither he, nor the rest of the team missed the distrust vibes that were firmly being fired in their general direction, but they pushed it aside as every good Starfleet officer should. Munro then turned back to the Prime Minister to answer the question being posed to him.

"We come from a Star System sixty-eight lightyears away from the edge of your space, we were originally part of a Interstellar Federation of Planets, but after a disaster hit us, we've been vastly shrunk in-size to a single star system" Munro replied "However, we are still made up of a number of species, I myself am Human, but lt Commander Torkleson is a Betazoid, and Lt Commander Turner is a Trill"

As they walked towards the cars, Munro continued.

"As for our mission, Starfleet's primary missions are Exploration, Diplomacy and defense, as a result, Pathfinder was assigned to explore the space along a bearing from our system, and we came across your border station, so leading us to the second mission"
