Rotten and gelatinous, this year's beetroot harvest has proven inedible

Following devastating rains all through last Winter, the nation's five and a half acres of arable land were flooded for a period of nine days, leading to the loss of an estimated twelve pounds of beetroot.

Government officials have remained silent so far, but the question on everyone's minds remains: who will we import beets from in the aftermath of this event? Some support Moldovan beets, while others support acquiring Ukrainian, or even Russian, produce. But these positions are highly politicized, leading some to believe the festival may be in danger for the first time in seventeen millenia of continuous Transnistrian identity.

Armed revolutionary groups in the unrecognized Moldovo-Romanian Republic of Northern Transnistria have claimed full responsibility for the rains, supposedly caused by bribing meteorologists. The validity of these claims is currently under investigation by the proper authorities.◿

Ichorian Journalist Arrested in Anping
Val Hodes was taken into police custody while interviewing villagers about a controversial engineering project on the Qi Plateau.

Ichorian journalist Val Hodes was arrested Friday in southwestern Anping for conducting allegedly illegal interviews.

Hodes, working as a correspondent for the Hijjman newspaper Union News, was taken into police custody while supposedly pursuing information on the Sanctuary of Heaven, the latest of the Heavenly State of Anping's monastic and touristic complexes. Government officials demanded that she hand over the notes and film material she had collected pertaining to the project, particularly interviews with villagers scheduled to be forcefully moved from project lands.

The Ichorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hijjman Foreign Office have both come out in criticism of the arrest, which Minister Andere labeled as "senseless and unjustifiable" earlier this morning. Heavenly State authorities have so far released no public statement.◿

Opinion: A Call for Action Against Anping
Direct Intervention: Possibly the Only Way to End the Anping Nuclear Crisis with Minimal Blood for Zhenia

The Zhenian Herald
2018/09/22 18:22 | Chenhai, Zhenia

Image
One of the five suspected nuclear facilities in Anping, not that far from the Qi Plateau. First spotted by international media in 2017, it is the pinnacle of the Anpingian nuclear program.

Opinion by Sun Qianlong

Since 1997, the Greater Eastern Union has maintained a strong stance against Anping's nuclear program, imposing economic sanctions against Anping to discontinue its nuclear program and resurrecting the 'International Island Policy' of disconnecting ties with those who maintain international relations with Anping, all of it while avoiding the military option. However, the past twenty years have proven that no matter what Zhenia does, there are only more loopholes for Anping and its nuclear program: just last year, they released a new array of ballistic missiles capable of threatening Chenhai from the Anpingian mainland, capable of carrying nuclear warheads. Several intelligence reports are claiming that a nuclear test is imminent, marking the completion of the nation's nuclear program.

The previous administrations has approached the crisis in a rather distant manner, underestimating the loopholes of Zhenian sanctions against Anping and the uselessness of the 'International Island Policy'. Zhenia's naive trust in peace and agreements against a nation it does not recognize has resulted in the near-completion of Anping's nuclear arsenal. The threat is teetering dangerously towards a state in which Zhenia is no longer to exercise its historical claims on Anping and ensure Zhenian superiority diplomatically. Given this desperacy, actions must be taken.

For such reasons, I propose direct actions to halt and dismantle Anping's nuclear program once and for all, both at the Zhenian level and the international level. The former could include anything between a series of air strikes in suspected nuclear facilities, special operation raids, cyberattacks and even a 'preventive war', while the latter would consist of an international committee to investigate the nation's nuclear program and eliminate all nulcear weapons possible. Of course, to justify such actions, the international community must be convinced that the Anpingian nuclear program poses an explicit threat to the very survival and peace of not just Zhenia but the East as a whole. I suggest that this can be made possible through the fact that the past twenty years of indirect action to halt its nuclear program has failed miserably, arriving to the state it is in today.

It is time Anping's nuclear program comes to a halt, once and for all, be it at the hands of Zhenia or the international community. I do not wish to call for war here, but only suggest to get rid of a threat while we still can. I do wish the Government of Zhenia and the international world to remember that direct intervention might be the only way to stop the situation from going sideways.◿

Sun Qianlong was the Secretary of Foreign Affairs from 2002 to 2008 and is currently a Professor at Chenhai National University.

Vladimir Akulov once said, 'It is always better to take 50 percent of the damage and terminate the threat than to shudder in fear of 100 percent of the threat.' Zhenia and the international community are dangerously approaching the 100 percent of the threat: it is about time preventive actions are taken to stop the completion of Anping's nuclear capability.

Zhenian Spallai Military Base Exchange
Spalla has finished building its first military base in abroad for hundreds of troops carrying out waterborne training missions across the border in Zhenia, according to reports.

Viikar Manaan for the South Spalla Post
16/10/2018 11:00 am | Tiir, Spalla

Image
Camp Cligaan will be the first overseas site for the increasingly active kiith Soban military, coming a year after agreements were made to exchange bases.

Around 1000 troops will be stationed in the base training for waterborne operations the South Spalla Morning Post reported. Spalla has long worried that instability in the heart of their nation could spill over into Zhenia or that it could damage its economic plans for a 21st century Rail and Road project in the wider region. Tiir has been accused of conducting a severe security crackdown on the frontier, but says it is tackling Gaalsien violence. Hundreds have died in the skirmishes near the Wall. The government is particularly worried about possible Mishmarian nationals, including separatist militants from, fighting and training inside Spalla. Spalla is also home to thousands of fighters loyal to the Gaalsien Federation, which has in the past vowed that “blood will flow in rivers” in Spalla.

“Construction of the base has been completed, and Spalla will send at least one battalion of kiith Soban’s elite Green Berets, along with weapons and equipment, to be stationed there and provide training to their Zhenian counterparts, and vice versa,” one source told the paper. The project was considered “costly but worthwhile,” the source said. A Zhenian news agency reported earlier this year that Zhenia would complete their own base near the Khontala Mountains after the two countries agreed to cooperate on fighting terrorism. Photographs purporting to show Zhenian military trucks inside the corridor emerged in late 2016. “A key function of the training base will be to strengthen anti-terrorism cooperation and military exchanges between Zhenia and Spalla, which is also part of their efforts to stop separatists from infiltrating the central wastes,” said Kijar Siidim, a military analyst in Tiir. “Spalla is very weak on counterterrorism, and the authorities there are worried about a Gaalsien resurgence, but they can’t do anything about it without help from partner nations.” As the Diamid in Tiir continues to lose ground to a strong Gaalsien insurgency, the Zhenians are also worried militants hiding in the country will threaten its economic ambitions. A report paper last month from the Spallai Council of Foreign Relations said Spalla's fear was of attacks by groups like the Gaalsien on its economic projects in the central region, especially on the rail and roadways that connect the northern and southern regions. Spalla is expected to further strengthen its military presence in the region by eventually sitting down for talks with the Zahenian government about setting up a naval logistics hub in the port area. The port being built is a cornerstone of Spalla's regional plans Spalla hopes it will give it access to the Mid-Gernarmic Ocean. In the meantime there is only a limited naval presence consisting of surface and underwater covert and overt infiltration and exfiltration equipment for small groups of infantry.

1,600 Year Anniversary of the Arkahan Dynasty Celebrated in Takarhan
Before international leaders and representatives, Shah Amir Ra'ad promises "new roads amid changing times" before Shahanshah Amir Ra'ad's Tomb

Zainab Ashraf for the Kasharvan Herald
10/29/2018 07:00 am | Takarhan Kasharvan

Shah Amir Ra'ad showing up during the historical parade commemorating the 1,600 Year Anniversary of the Arkahan Dynasty

The historical parade commemorating the 1,600th Anniversary of the Arkahan Dynasty - the second dynasty that unified Kasharvan and one of the largest entities in Kasharvani history - was held throughout the nation, but most notably in Takarhan today, with numerous international leaders and representatives invited to witness the historical archive of Kasharvan. The event was held to revisit the historical achievements of Kasharvanians - many of them during the Arkahan Dynasty, but also numeorus other Kasharvani heroes, including Shahanshah Al Ra'ad - while showcasing modern Kasharvan under the rule of Shah Amir Ra'ad, who was crowned Shahanshah last February.

The parade consisted of a historical march from the Imperial Palace, in the central district of Takarhan, to the Tomb of Shahanshah Al Ra'ad in the vicinity of Arkahani ruins. The parade mostly consisted of Kasharvani in Arkahan attire, some of them in the famed Arkahan Cataphract armor. A military parade organized by almost 20,000 personnel from the Imperial Kasharvani Armed Forces, as well as fly-overs by the Imperial Kasharvani Air Force, followed the event, as international leaders and representatives, along with Shah Amir Ra'ad himself, oversaw the parade.

Following the events today, Shah Amir Ra'ad himself came before the audience to deliver his words regarding the historical assets and "the way forward towards prosperity for Kasharvan", clarifying that the Imperial State of Kasharvan as "the legitimate successor to the historical remains and significance of the old Arkahan Dynasty", while also hinting towards radical modernization "in preparation for changing times."

Many international leaders and representatives were present to oversee such a historical event: among them was Zhenian Premier Liu Cheng-Min, who was present for a subsequent summit with Shah Amir Ra'ad. Upon the event, the Premier remarked "the tremendous historical achievements of the Kasharvani people", and expressed confidence in the subsequent summit with the Shah himself. The Zhenian-Kasharvani summit, held in the Imperial Palace, was said to have been about the renegotiation of Kasharvani petroleum exports into Zhenia and the Zhenian arms deal regarding the Imperial Kasharvani Armed Forces.

Opinion of Zhenia Reaches Record High
National opinion of Zhenia reaches all-time high with election just months away

Kynen Lienos for the Eurian Daily Inquirer
09/02/2018 9:00 pm | Deneria, Euria

Image
The morning skyline in Chenhai, Zhenia's capital city.

A poll released today by the Institute for Eurian International Outreach found that opinion of Zhenia, Euria's largest trading partner, has reached a record high. Zhenia still trails behind the nations of Thrace, Kathia, Ichoria and Hijjma in terms of popularity in Euria, despite their popularity being at an all-time high.

According to the poll 71% of those polled approved of Zhenia, with 19% of those polled holding a negative view and 10% having no strong opinion on the matter. However, only 16% of those polled said they would accept a member of their family marrying a Zhenian. Thrace, the most popular nation among Eurians, had an approval rating of 93% with only 2% of those polled holding a negative view of the country. 96% of those polled said they would accept a member of their family marrying a Thracian.

Zhenia is the largest foreign investor in Euria as well as it's largest trading partner. On top of this it overtook Thrace in 2005 as the most popular destination for Eurian migrants. However, many Eurians still feel an intense cultural and religious connection to Thrace due to the 100s of years of shared history and the key role of Thrace in creating the modern Eurian state.

This poll look good for the Popular Alliance and their Szario Bloc which have been the main proponents of anti-Zhenian nationalism in Euria. The party claims that the Zhenians show no remorse for their annexation and occupation of Euria during the Great War. However, estimates suggest that the country has invested nearly 9 times the cost of the damage from the war into the country between 1988 and 2017.◿

The full top 5 list of approval is as follows:
Thrace (93%)
Kathia (86%)
Ichoria (85%)
Hijjma (79%)
Zhenia (71%)

Szario Bloc Candidate Banned From Running for President
Szario Bloc scrambling to find a new candidate with just three weeks until voting

Valin Delegis for the Eurian Daily Inquirer
17/03/2019 01:57 pm | Deneria, Euria

The Constitutional Court in Deneria.

This afternoon the Constitutional Court in Deneria ruled that Ravidan Szario, the candidate for the Popular Alliance and Szario Bloc, would not be allowed to run for President. The reason for the ban is due to Mr Szario's conviction for accepting up to $7.5 million in illegal campaign donations and his conviction for falsifying signatures on his petition to run for President in the 2014 election, which was only discovered post-election.

In a statement Szario's sister, Maril Szario, said that "the Constitutional Court is a disgrace to Euria. It has been paid off by wealthy Zhenians to try and destroy the Popular Alliance and it's sister parties in the Szario Bloc. They are afraid that we will put a stop to their exploitation of our nation, which we will do if elected. The Szario Bloc is currently attempting to find a new candidate and they will be announced very soon."

Inside sources within the Popular Alliance say that the ruling has further intensified the parties troubles. Polls are currently showing the party trailing behind both the New 1988 Alliance consisting of the Liberal Party and the Eurian Democratic Party as well as the Workers' Action Party. If they do as the polls predict then they would lose their large majority in the National Assembly and potentially lose more than 100 seats.

With the election scheduled for the 7th of April the future of Euria hangs in the balance. Will Aralon Varakos' so far disastrous Presidency be rescued by the corruption and incompetence of his greatest foes or will the insurgent Workers' Action Party, led by the popular Merion Venize, steal the show?◿

The Rise of Merion Venize
Workers' Action Party candidate jumps in polls with just two weeks until the election

Valin Delegis for the Eurian Daily Inquirer
23/03/2019 02:43 pm | Deneria, Euria

Supporters of Merion Venize at a rally in Deneria

Following Ravidan Szario's ban from running for the office of President a new candidate has been catapulted into the spotlight as the main opposition to President Aralon Varakos, a radical by the name of Merion Venize. Mr Venize has been a fixture of Eurian politics since the late 1990s when he was a member of the now-defunct Eurian Revolutionary Party but only now has his popularity expanded beyond it's traditional base of the Denerian working-class.

Current polling, depending on the polling company, has Mr Venize between 30-40% in the polls with most showing him just behind President Aralon Varakos by 2-3%. This massive increase has got the New 1988 Coalition, who had seemed confident they'd easily win the election following the Szario Bloc's troubles, spooked. Whilst Venize has long said that 'anyone would make a better President than a Szario' he hasn't spared Mr Varakos of criticism with his sights turning on the President over the past few days.

At a rally in Deneria on Friday, which was attended by almost 1.5 million supporters, he said that 'I have a lot of sympathy for Mr Varakos, the Szario's and their cronies have blocked him from doing anything during this term. However, the fact remains that his ideas are not radical enough. He wants to continue Euria on the same path that it has been on for the past 30 years and that's just not good enough. The people want real change not just the image of change that a young face gives off. I will provide real change. I will feed the poor. I will build infrastructure. I will stop the needless deaths from things that wouldn't even affect someones day if they lived in Aurora. Will Aralon Varakos do that? I'm afraid that the answer is no, he will not.'

Everything is at stake in April 7th's election. The New 1988 Coalition could expand their lead or they could lose it all if they aren't very careful. However, the same goes for Mr Venize.◿

The Acolytes have sent two mysterious girls, who are rumored to be Empress Tornado Molly and another girl by the name of Mimi Mimikins. Mimi was last seen in Merlee's Mansion, while Tornado Molly has been plotting this war for a long time.

If this war ends in an Acolyte victory, the monuments will be rebuilt brick-by-brick. If it ends in a wahhabi victory, many ancient buildings could be lost to history.

The Final Countdown
With the election now seemingly a two-horse race these last few days will be key to Euria's future

Valin Delegis for the Eurian Daily Inquirer
31/03/2019 6:29 pm | Deneria, Euria

A New 1988 Coalition rally in Deneria.

Euria's election is just a week away and no matter who wins the country currently stands on the edge of a major shift. Over the past few weeks it has become accepted as fact that the second round of the election, if there need be one, will be between President Aralon Varakos and his main opponent, Merion Venize. However, the battle for the National Assembly is in it's last days and both the New 1988 Coalition and the Workers' Action Party need to secure a majority if they hope to go on to win the Presidency and govern effectively for the next 5 years.

Polls over the past week have shown the New 1988 Coalition members, the Liberal Party and the Eurian Democratic Party, on course to secure a majority with the Szario Bloc crumbling under allegations of corruption and controversy. The popular Liberal Assemblywoman, Lasel Laronas, said that "the Coalition is definitely happier going into this election than it was in 2014 but that election taught us not to take a rest before the work is done and a victory is secured. We are tirelessly campaigning to show people across the country that the Liberal Party and it's friends in the Eurian Democratic Party have plans to do what is best for this country. We are prepared for government."

At a rally in Deneria on Saturday almost 2.9 million people decked in the yellow of the Liberal Party and the Blue of the Eurian Democratic Party cheered for President Varakos. "I know that the last 5 years of government have been hard but we have done our very best to navigate our country through a tough time in which dangerous xenophobes controlled a large majority in our Assembly. This next 5 years will be different. This next 5 years will be about bringing prosperity, fighting corruption, strengthening friendships with nations around the globe. We want Euria to be a nation the world looks up to as an economic hub. I want to have played a part in the journey of our amazing nation."

Currently it seems to be the case that most Eurians share the hopes of President Varakos and the New 1988 Coalition. Polls currently show the President sitting at 44% in the polls for the first round with Merion Venize polling at around 37%. In the Assembly election polls are predicting that the Eurian Democratic Party will get 22% of the vote with the Liberals getting 26% giving them a combined polling figure of 48% comparing to just 25% for the Workers' Action Party, 14% for the Szario Bloc and 7% for the Eurians for Change.◿

Euria Prepares for Election
The running of the election is the result of years of planning by the electoral council

NEC Workers at a polling station.

The National Electoral Council announced in a statement this evening that they 'are fully prepared for tomorrows elections to take place' and that they will be 'the smoothest since the NEC was formed in 1988'.

In the past the NEC has been criticised for it's running of elections. In 2014 there were reports of as many as 300 ballot boxes being lost across the nation. After the 2014 incidents the Council vowed to 'improve drastically' prior to 2019 election and they seem to have done that. The Council has requested help from individuals who have worked for electoral commissions throughout the globe to make their systems better. The planning for this years elections have also been taking place since 2019 allowing for the NEC to ensure there would be no events close to the elections that could endanger the democratic process.

This year there will also be observers from Zhenia and the Auroran Community watching the elections to ensure that the process is up to the high standards held in those nations. Observers from Kathia and Zhenia were seen at polling stations in Deneria today observing the preparations the NEC had made.

Polls will open at 7 a.m tomorrow across Euria with polls closing between 6 and 9 p.m depending on the region and size of the area where the polling booth is. The NEC says that it aims to have preliminary results published by 11 p.m.◿

I honestly doubt much has changed. People love to brag about change in this country but it's rarely true.

The exit poll commissioned by the Eurian Daily Inquirer in co-ordination with the University of Deneria has predicted that President Aralon Varakos will not win outright in the first round with the President predicted to be just 0.2% short of the 50%+1 required to win the election in the first round. With polls now closing across the nation the fate of the election has been decided.

The poll predicts that the President will win 49.8% of the vote with Merion Venize on 32.3%. The Szario Bloc candidate, Gosal Magado, was predicted to get 11.3%, the Eurians for Change candidate, Badan Lienos, 5.5% and other candidates combined 1.1%. When the poll was announced at the New 1988 camp the happy mood was dampened slightly at the thought that an outright victory was just out of reach with the Venize supporters cheering at the prospect of a second round a chance to boost ahead in the polls.

The turnout for the election seemed to be high with massive queues seen throughout Deneria even up until 8:30 p.m just 30 minutes before the polls were supposed to close. Even in rural areas, which overwhelmingly backed the Szario Bloc in the last election, turnout seemed to be high. The Eurian Daily Inquirer spoke to voters in these areas with one saying 'the Szario's are corrupt bastards, I'm voting for the right candidate this time. I support Aralon Varakos'. Another person said that 'I'm support Mr Venize this time around. He seems genuine and he's not going to be in the pockets of the Zhenians like Varakos will be.'

The National Electoral Council released a statement saying that they expect preliminary results for the Presidential race between 11 p.m and 1 a.m. They also said that it will take longer before results for the National Assembly are announced.◿

This evening the National Electoral Council announced that a second round for the Presidential election will be held on the 4th of May. Aralon Varakos and Merion Venize will face each other in the second round.

The NEC also announced the results for the National Assembly elections. The largest party was the Liberal Party which won 103 of the 315 seats in the Assembly, the second largest was the Workers' Action Party with 84 seats, the Eurian Democratic Party won 71 seats, the Popular Alliance won 28, the Eurians for Change won 18, and independents won 11 seats. The National People's Coalition went from 52 seats to none with the Popular Alliance losing 113 of their 141 seats. The New 1988 Coalition, made up of the Liberals and the Eurian Democratic Party, won 174 seats in total which would allow President Varakos to govern comfortably if he won the second round.

In a statement President Varakos said that 'the New 1988 Coalition has reason to celebrate. We have won a majority in the National Assembly. However, we must not be overconfident going into this second round. I am not going to sit back and expect victory, I will still fight for every last vote.'

Merion Venize's Workers' Action Party said that 'our activists are already out campaigning again. We will never take a break from our campaign for a fairer Euria'. Venize himself was seen going to his local store this morning with supporters flocking to ask him for a photo.

The Popular Alliance and the National People's Coalition released a joint statement in which they said that 'whilst the defeat we faced was large we are not going to give up. The values of Szarioism very much remain alive'. None of the other parties have commented as of yet.◿

49.72% of the vote went to Varakos. Venize has no hope, he should give up now.

Department of Defense: First Live-Fire Exercise of Hypersonic Missiles Proves Successful
Introduction of hypersonic missile expected to bring unprecedented quantum leap in combat capability

The Greater Eastern Union Department of Defense has announced that the Greater Eastern Union Air Force has successfully carried out a live-fire test of the AGM-801 'Lightning' hypersonic cruise missile, confirming the introduction of the missile into GEUDEF service and thus ending all speculations about its existence.

On a press conference at Zhongwu Hall last night, the Department of Defense has made it clear that the "AGM-801 has been successfully test-fired on a designated target off the coast of the Haidong Islands", making it clear that "all key objectives expected to be fulfilled by the missile - notably speed, range and countermeasures - have been confirmed with the exercises yesterday." While it refused to enclose too much detail, the Department of Defense confirmed that the missile was "both a surface-based and air-launched platform", and has been "introduced to service since December 2018". It has also added that the AGM-801 was a "key part of the GEUDEF's Rapid Global Response program" and would "become a quantum leap in achieving the goals of the Rapid Global Response program by 2022".

The AGM-801 was widely speculated to be a major addition to the Rapid Global Response program, a program that began in 2012. With its goal of giving the GEUDEF capability to strike any target anywhere in the world within four hours' time, the program originally included orbital strike systems and conventional strike weapons based on intercontinental ballistic missiles. Amid delays in the development of hypersonic glide vehicles meant to be fitted in the ballistic missiles, the AGM-801 was introduced first, with priority given to B-7 and B-8 bomber units and arsenal ships patrolling the Indian and Allonian Oceans. It has been speculated that the Department of Defense has ordered at least 5,000 of such missiles to be delivered by 2024, aiming to introduce them to carrier strike groups and F-33 strike fighter units. Although its actual cruising speed is unknown as of now, there are estimates that go between Mach 5 and Mach 10.◿

This is the resurgence of the Greater Eastern Union! With the achievement of the Rapid Global Response program, enemies of Zhenia will have to think twice against threatening Zhenia.
