Alex dropped the canisters and grabbed the arms of the creature. "Friend June, please shoot after this." Alex said as he turned is head to look at her. Alex then looked back at the creature and said, "Это для Майка." Alex twisted the creature's arms with all his strength and ripped one out of its socket. The creature shreiked then charged at Alex again. Alex dropped the limb held and looked up just in time to see the creature charging. Alex put his hands up defensively when the creature was only a few feet from him.

June jumped up and grabbed the AK. She pulled Alex back by the collar so she wouldnt hit him accidently. She jerked the trigger back and emptied the clip into its head. It jerked back as she fired on it. It fell backwards, dead before it hit the ground. June stood there breathing heavily then said "Thanks Alex, I'd be dead with out you..."

Alex moved to the creature and asked, "What thing?" Alex then went to the canisters and grabbed another AK and threw another clip to June."Not matter, grab arm, need to take to captain. Show that we need leave and kill all things."

"What? I thought we were here to save people, not to brandish mutated monster limbs to Fuze." She said, with a moderate look of confusion. "Ill contact the bridge but in the mean time we need to find survivors,"

Alice 'awoke' in pitch black darkness. Her battery had recently been recharged. giving her another month's worth of energy. She looked around for several seconds, her eyes slowly adjusting to the sudden light shift. Eventually, her artificial night-vision kicked in after about twenty seconds and she could see the carnage around her. The walls of the barracks were covered with blood, most of it at least several hours old. A few torn limbs, here and there, a head, maybe a couple bodies were strewn around the room like loose clothes.

Several of the limbs looked mutated somehow, bony protrusions stuck out, shaped like blades and claws. A gruesome sight indeed. Weapons fire, mostly likely from the miners' plasma cutters, had scorched the walls and floor. Several flickering, badly damaged fluorescent lights hovered above the door, giving the pitch blackness beyond it an eerie atmosphere. Indeed, the entire barracks were eerie. Complete silence all around, as if everything on the ship had suddenly died.

Alice didn't like this. At all.

She quickly disengaged her docking mechanism and stepped off the recharging pedestal. As if on cue, the sounds of pounding metal came from all around. Someone...or something was coming towards her and she had almost no time to spare. Alice scooped a plasma cutter off the floor, grabbing a couple plasma cells from one of the miner's storage lockers. She looked around for some clothes, too. It wouldn't be too bright going around half-naked on an alien-infested mining ship. She dug around the footlockers on the heads of the bunk beds and in several of the storage lockers. After a few brief minutes of searching, she finally found a fitting jumpsuit and hastily put it on.

They were getting closer.

Even with her enhanced vision, the room was still quite dark and obscured. Her night-vision was made to work outside, with the light of the stars and moon providing enough backup light to increase it to normal. Luckily, the suit came with a torch built right onto the shoulder. Handy if you get lost in a mining tunnel and need a quick light, problem is...it was almost out of batteries.

"Damn."

She looked over most of the suit's functions quickly, the small air tank in the back was quite nice and full, not that she'd need it. The suit's environmental controls were functioning well within normal, this would give her at least some chance of surviving hard vacuum. The magnetic boots were flawless. Looks like the poor fellow who previously owned the suit just needed to swap out a battery. She tacked that onto her mental 'to-do list' and braced herself.

Whatever was coming would be bursting through the walls in a rather short amount of time, she tried not to think about what it was. Probably the same monster that killed all these miners. She had one small trick up her sleeve however.

Unlike the miners, Alice was built for combat and fighting. If something came her way, she'd be able to handle it.

At least, that's what she hoped.

There was the sound of shrieking metal, a horrible, horrible sound. Alfred was quite surprised by the sudden removal of the far wall, and was also scared witless. There was a hiss, a horrid hiss, the sound of some creature, a huge one, advancing towards him. Then, a dull thud as a long thin blade shot out towards him, followed by an unearthly scream as it broke against his armoured body.

Alfred realised that whatever it was would not be happy, quickly charged it, his plan was to burn it before it regained his senses. Smashing into the things body, he activated his plasma cutter; in actual fact he had the most powerful plasma cutter on the ship; capable of working on even military grade armour; as it was directly powered by his ∞+ Reactor, a small device that would run forever he was told.

A searing white blade of partials cut through the creature’s body, tearing it apart with ease. Then he stopped, his systems overloaded, and he crashed in the middle of a deserted hallway. Yeah, his systems were on the fritz, seriously on the fritz!

"You think people survive? Look at room!" Alex said as he watched any openings carefully, then asked a question that he already knew the answer to, "Where you think people that could kill things are?" Alex pointed at the way to the bridge, "With coward."

A shrill scream sounded off at the end of the hall, it bounced off of the walls eerily. June hadnt even thought twice before bolting down the hall in the direction from which the scream came from. She hoped Alex was behind her, she'd probably die with out him.

"Oh please god stop! JUST STOP!" A woman cried. Her voice was farmilliar, but June failed to regonize who she was. June turned the corner and found the door from which the screams came. She stopped at the door and readied the AK then opened the door as fast as she could. The offending monster turned around and swung at June with one bladed arm. June reeled back realising that the monster cut a big gash in her arm. It hurt like hell but she ignored it and aimed at the monsters ugly head. It snarled at her as she pulled the trigger back and a splatter of bullets destroyed its ugly face. It fell back and began to twitch and convulse. June walked up to it and stomped on it, crushing its head.

The woman sat curled up in a corner, she was shaking uncontrollably. Blood poured from her eye sockets, they had been ripped out. She held her side obsessively, blood flowed from in between her fingers. From what June could see, it was a pretty deep gash. She doubted she would live long as long as she was bleeding like that. She knew this woman, her name was Annie. It was June's best friend. Not five hours ago she had seen her perfectly happy and lively, but now here she was bleeding to death. June dropped the AK and fell to her hands and knees never taking her eyes off of Annie.

"Oh sweetie, what have they done to you?" June whispered. It was getting increasingly difficult to keep her composure, more and more she felt like she was going to burst out into tears. June reached out and touched Annie's face and she reeled back away from June.

"June?" She asked timidly.

"Yes its me, June," June said softly. Annie took June's hand.

"They'll destroy everything, June, and they wont stop until they get it back." Annie said.

"Get what back?"

"The gate! They want it back! Null sent them to get it back, it sent the others!" Annie said.

June looked at her mildly confused. "Who's Null?"

"The one who owns the gate, its the gate to Void. We have to give it back, or theyll destroy us all. The ship and everything and everyone. June, you have to give it back to them, promise youll give it back. Promise me that you will, please..." She said, tightening her hand around June's.

"I will, Ill give it back to them, I swear I will." June said. Then Annie let go of June's hand and reached in her pocket. She pulled some sort of triangular insignia on a chain and put it in June's hand and closed her fingers around it. June looked at her and said, "What is this?"

"Use it when it is time, then you will see." Annie paused for what seemed like an enternity then said. "June... Please, please kill me."

June's eyes widened and she stood up. "No! Annie! I wont!"

Annie pulled a small pistol from her belt and held it out to June. "Please June! Just end it, I wont live much longer anyway." Tears formed in her eyes and she turned away then turned back again to look at Annie. June took the bloody pistol from Annies hand and aimed it at her head. She turn her head the other way and slowly pulled the trigger. June felt the pistol jump in her hand and a loud bang rang out. Her arm fell to her side and look back at Annie. She had stayed up right for the moment but then fell to the side leaving a trail of blood and brain matter on the wall.

June dropped the pistol and fell against the wall and began to cry.

Yuri stepped out of the airlock that divided the plasma generator from the rest of the ship in a mist of decontamination spray. The hazard suit was a greyish blue colour, made of a material that could stand the acidic gel that kept the generator from overheating. The tinted visor prevented people from seeing his face. In his hand he held a plasma torch, a next generation of the plasma cutter, made for cutting and repairing tough metal objects. It was a prototype; the head of the academy wanted it back after he returned to earth.

He remembered the academy with a sense of dread. He would of finished top of his class had he not accidently killed his instructor during his final training exercise. He had cut open the instructor’s suit with a plasma cutter and the liquid had flowed in. He had watched his instructor’s flesh eaten away by the acid. Then fate had brought him here. The academy gave him an offer, fill a vacant post on the USS Valkyrie or spend five years for murder in prison. He had never liked space; he missed Earth, though it was mainly the vodka he missed it so dammed hard to get a proper bottle of decent premier vodka.

He had been down here a lot recently with all the suicides and then the computers just weren’t reliable. He had repaired almost all of the equipment is his suit down here twice for the past four days. He almost never took his suit off, the chief medical officer, after his first two week on the USS Valkyrie had joked, “Yuri, if you keep that suit on much longer it will become a part of you.” Few people had seen him with the suit off and those that did were scared of him.

He was tall and lanky and had a black hair which looked as though he had just come from a haircut for an important photo, but what the suit hid was his mutations he had got during his training, when he stayed for so long in the suit that the small nuclear batteries had mutated him. His eyes were different colours one ice blue, the other blood red, his skin was a chalky white, and a thin scar ran from his left ear to the bottom of his jaw which, glowed green in the dark.

He looked around, couldn’t see anyone. That was normal, what wasn’t that the camera drones weren’t hovering around like they normal would. He walked to the elevator a pressed the call button. The elevator door opened revealing the sight of a creature munching on a body covered in blood. The creature looked at him, reminding him of what his instructor’s face looked like when he was pulled out of the testing area. The creature lunged at him shrieking at him. He instinctively pulled the plasma torch out and struck at the torso, the creature didn’t even filch and pinned him to the ground. He kicked the creature in the face knocking its head off it move back five stepped then charged. Yuri brought the torch up again and cut off the large spear like limbs, the creature collapsed and lay still.

He walked into the elevator and looked at the body that had been ripped into large chunks.
“Sorry comrade,” spoke Yuri, his voice almost artificial in the suit with a hint of a Russian accent from his life in Moscow. He threw the chunks out of the elevator and pressed for the nearest floor to the bridge, the captain needed to know.

Re: Abandoned (IC CLOSED)

Postby Techno-Soviet » Fri Jun 26, 2009 11:26 pm

((OOC: Hope this isn't dead, it seems like such a great idea.))

A loud shriek from down the hall told Alice everything she needed to know. Whatever was coming her way had already came, and it must have gotten a relatively warm reception from whoever was still alive. At least whatever it was wasn't coming for her anymore, which gave her more time to search around the barracks. Tearing the locks off of several footlockers, Alice rummaged around and laid what items she deemed useful on one of the bunks.

Among the items, there were a couple broken plasma cutters, which would come in handy for spare parts. An ad-hoc medical kit, obviously not up to par with any official kit. Most of the pills were aspirins, maybe the occasional antibiotic. Surprisingly, there were several ounces of morphine and even a few sulfur tablets. Whoever scrounged together this nifty piece of kit must have been pretty close to the ship's medical officers to get what they did.

Alice dug through the corpses, searching for anything that would come in handy. Finally, she came across what looked like an intact jumpsuit. Immediately, she checked the suit's battery.

97%.

Enough to power that little light and the rest of the suit she was wearing for at least a few weeks. She unlatched the battery compartment and stared at the glowing fusion cell for several seconds, then delicately plucked it from it's metal prison and held it in her hands. It was slightly warm, although that quickly dissipated into the air. Alice placed the fragile battery on the nearest bunk and removed her own cell. Suddenly, the entire room was plunged into darkness.

She hadn't realized how much she was relying on the suit's own external lights to see. It wasn't much of problem as she carefully slid the fresh battery into it's compartment. The suit reawakened after a few tense seconds, the shoulder light came on after a few flickers. Good, everything was working fine. Alice looked up with a smile on her face and reached placed everything she'd laid out earlier neatly into a black sack.

Alice was so focused on stuffing the bag that she hadn't noticed one thing was missing, one small thing she had overlooked.

The 'corpse' was gone.

It wasn't gone for long. A shrill scream emanated from the room closest to the barracks, startling Alice. The sickening sounds of bones snapping and cracking, flesh being torn from the bones, a low gurgle and several more screams. Then, silence.

Alice whirled around and balked at the sight of a hideous parody of the dead miner, standing in the doorway. His jaw was completely dislocated, hanging by only several exposed tendons. The flesh was absolutely necrotic, clammy and gray; pus seeped from a gaping wound in it's chest. Several bony appendages, like those she saw earlier, protruded from it's back. They twitched, as if having minds of their own. The beast was breathing heavily, it's breath was visible in the chilly air; thick mist rose from it's mouth. The arms were nothing more than flesh stretched over bare bone, the palms were pierced by more bony spikes, muscle and tendon were visible in areas were the flesh had been torn and opened.

The disgusting beast lurched forwards, walking with a slow, but determined gait. Alice analyzed the creature for any real weaknesses. The heart, brain and even the head were nothing more than vestigial, the bones were brittle and the joints especially. Almost instinctively, Alice brought the plasma cutter to bear and fired four, rapid shots, severed one of the creature's legs and both of the spiked 'arms'. However, it was determined and refused to give up, crawling after her. Alice aimed again, then lowered the cutter. Firing another shot would be wasteful.

She calmed walked up the...thing... and smashed her foot against it's shoulders, severing them entirely and killing the beast for good. Whatever was left of the miner was almost entirely gone now, save for small bits of his uniform sticking onto his body, as if it had been grafted onto his skin. A few more shrieks came from the room, Alice wasn't about to stay around and find out what they were.

She bolted out of the other door and down the hallway, carrying the bag of supplies on her back and turning on the shoulder lamp. The hallway was less populated with the dead, apparently none of the miner's survived to escape from the slaughterhouse. She quickly came across whatever beast had been charging towards her, it's body almost turned to slag by what appeared to be a very powerful plasma torch. Alice panned the torch around, when something caught her eye in the darkness.

A glint of metal was all she needed to see...

"Friend June? Not mean to interrupt, but there things out here, and we need get moving." Alex said as he watched the doorway in which he and June had entered."Friend June, must leave. I know was friend, but she not want you to die right now." Alex got up and saw something, he raised his AK at it, but it seemed different than the creatures. It walked like only a human could, "Hello?" Alex yelled outloud, knowing the risk of attracting attention, he still pointed the AK at it, when he yelled again, "I fire you not answer!"

June looked over, wondering who Alex was shouting at. He was right, they needed to get moving or they'd be monster meat. She stood up and wiped the tears from her face. She stared at the pistol and picked it up and slid in her belt then picked up the AK.

"Alex, who are you shouting at?" She said softly with a few sniffles and wiping away a few tears.

Re: Abandoned (IC CLOSED)

Alice brought the lamp around, panning it all over the hallway. Several vents were busted open, like something had crawled out of them. At least one had a damaged grate, covered in what looked like the remains of some poor sap who tried to run from the barracks. Blood and minced flesh covered it. She peeked inside the vent and saw a rather disgusting sight, apparently the fellow inside had been eaten alive, judging by the amount of blood smeared on the walls and the half-eaten corpse lying in plain sight. If she were any more human, she might have vomited at the very stench of rotting flesh.

Alice jumped down from the vent and panned the light into the open wall. The dead creature was still there, unmoving. Apparently, the chest wasn't so vestigial, as it had apparently died after enough trauma was afflicted onto it. On the floor lied several bone fragments, apparently from the very same creature. Several blood splatters covered the walls, a couple legs and arms were sitting where there probably was a full corpse only several hours ago. Suddenly, a voice broke through the darkness:

Hello?

Alice turned her head and the lamp towards the voice, trying to see who it was. She squinted in the darkness, trying to focus her optics for maximum effectiveness. The light bounced off the far wall, being stopped by a pair of legs. Alice raised the plasma cutter, panning the torch upwards, revealing a tall man, slightly taller than she was (Alice is 6') and wearing a maintenance uniform.

I fire you not answer!

"Yes?" She asked, lowering the cutter and standing up. "What do you want?"

Before he could answer, a series of loud, shrill screams emanated from the barracks, the sounds of running feet on metal quickly followed. Alice whirled around, alarmed by the sudden appearance of several creatures. Their bodies were just as twisted as the one she had encountered earlier, hideously deformed with several additional limbs. There were at least four of them, standing in the hall and eying their catch, however it looked as if they were hesitating, waiting for the prey to make the first move. Perhaps they were merely toying with them.

"Run..." Alice whispered, firing a couple bolts from her cutter into the nearest body and severing it's legs and one of it's arms. The creature roared in pain and crawled on the floor, it's comrades quickly joined it in the attack. The beasts charged without thought towards her. Alice backed away slowly, firing perfectly aimed shots at the creatures' limbs, arms and legs flying off. Eventually, she was only down to one.

However, one was more than enough.

The creature lept into the air and tackled Alice, knocking the plasma cutter out of her head. It held her arms down with it's own, surprisingly strong enough to keep her from barely moving, despite it's decrepit and worn appearance. It's rear claws came down, trying to stab Alice in the face. However, she was far too fast for it, dodging it's attempts with ease. The sharp talons easily punched through the steel grating, leaving numerous holes where Alice's head would have been.

"Man, this place is going to hell,"said Josh, walking towards his station before stopping when he heard a scream. Pulling out his sidearm, he slowly walked around the corner, then ducked back behind it. Around the corner, he had seen an woman, evidently the source of the scream, being torn apart by something. Breathing deeply, he rounded the corner and shouted:"Hey!"
The thing span around to look at him, then screamed and charged. Josh quickly pumped two rounds into the things chest, which shrugged them off and kept coming. Josh then quickly emptied the pistols clip into the things head. It dropped to the ground and slid to his feet, very dead. Bending down, Josh said:"What the fuck? ' The hell is this thing?"

After seeing the creature jump on the figure Alex could just barely make out in the darkness he told June, "Cover me, Am going to help." With that Alex rushed toward the fight and fired into the creature's back. The creature didn't seemed fased by it and just turned to face Alex. When it turned however, its face was only inces away from Alex's gun. Alex fired and the creature's head exploded in a rain of brain matter and blood. After the creature stopped spasming Alex walked over to the figure near it, "Is okay. Thing gone." he said as he reached out his hand to help the figure up.

June ran after Alex and watched him destroy the monsters head. He helped up the figure. "Are you alright?" June asked the girl. She had some what regained her composure and her commanding authority but the thought of Annie still remained at the back of her mind.

"I'm fine." Alice said, wiping what remained of the monster's head and chest off her uniform. She looked up after a few seconds, panning the light around. Two people. A tall, large man, at least 6' 2" and a young woman, probably around 5' 9" with light blond hair. They were armed with what looked like a couple relics from a museum and wearing standard engineering uniforms, although the girl was of significantly higher rank than the man.

Alice glanced down at her uniform, it had her standard military designation, DC-2498, and her first name underneath: "Alice". The uniform itself was a light arsenic-gray, form-fitting, with a dark gray, almost black, safety harness around the shoulders connected to an equally dark utility belt with numerous pouches. A torch was hanging from the right strap, focusing on the area ahead. The boots were jet-black, although lacking any real shine. They appeared to have some kind of metal armor attached, but it was actually part of the magnetic clamps that would have normally held a miner to the ship for any sort of EVA. However, she was missing the helmet, which meant her head would exposed to the vacuum, cold temperatures, radiation and most fearsome, micro-meteoroids. She'd have to find one that actually fit, of course. She tacked this onto her mental list and examined the rest of her suit.

Her rank was on her shoulder. Four yellow chevrons. Two flanking the top and two bottom and a blue diamond, with a red circle inside. The blue was more navy than actual blue, very dark, with a stripe of gray running across the border. The golden yellow chevrons also had the same silver-gray border. The red circle was untouched, although it looked as if it were divided into quarters by very thin, black lines. The design overall indicating she was somewhere around Sub-Lieutenant in a naval sense.

This meant she was the ranking officer among the group.

"I'm Alice." She said, looking up at the two. "Lieutenant Alice." She examined the weapons they were holding. She'd seen guns like those in historic photos. Wooden stocks and grips, stamped sheet metal, usually very simplistic construction. Simple, easy to maintain, capable of lasting years if kept clean. The stocks on these rifles, however, were of a polymer gray, along with the very dark steel of the frames. Obviously, wood wouldn't have held up over so many years. She wondered for a second just how someone was able to do two things, keep a weapon that old in working and smuggle the weapons and ammunition themselves aboard a mining vessel without anyone noticing.

However, for now, she'd keep most of her thoughts to herself.

"Right," June said to Alex with a nod. "But first..." She said and lifted her hand just below eye level. A holographic screen appeared in front of her.

"This is lead engineer Juniper Joy Constantine to the bridge." She said and the screen soon went from static to a blurry image of captain Fuze's lovely face.

"Miss Constantine, are you ready to obey my orders?" He said. June didnt like his tone and right off she lost her temper.

"You shut the fuck up Fuze! I dont want to hear any of your fancy-captain shit, you got that?! People are dying down here because of you! Its a practicle slaughter house down here! All because you didnt listen to me or Alex or any other member of your god-forsaken crew! Look!" She turned her hand so it faced the large deformed creature that almost ate Alice. Even though the screen was backwards she could still see his face. A look of sickened disgust filled his face. She turned it back so he could see her. "You see?! Thats whats killing everyone."

"Miss Constantine, I would like you to ret-" He was cut off by someone yelling "CAPTAIN!" then a large claw like thing smacked him in the temple. The transmitted image from the bridge soon went to blurry grey snow.

"Fuck!" June said sharply. She looked at the other two and said with an added sigh, "Well, you two know what this means..."

"We go for nearest escape shuttle?" Alex asked jokingly, "Or do we save captain man? It is very hard choice."

"This is no time to be a wise ass." June snapped at Alex. "I dont know if you had thought about this or not, but its not just the captain at the bridge and we still have a duty to this ship. Goddamn... and you were calling him a coward." She said when she turned to go.

((OOC: Sorry about the short post, pretty tired right now. This'll probably be my only one until later tonight.))

The roaring creature, whatever it was, was getting closer. Indeed, they had to go, but where was the question. Alice looked behind her, panning the torch around the hallway. There was faint movement in the barracks, nothing to be worried about. The thing was probably busy feasting on one of the many intact corpses, it looked as if it hardly cared about the light. Whirling around, Alice panned the light all around the hallway, looking for any signs pointing towards an escape route. She found one...in a most literal sense...

The light bounced off a long-dead sign, with an arrow pointing towards the direction the two engineers had came from. It read one simple word, one word which would probably save them all:

Elevator.

"Follow me, both of you." Alice said, stepping over a corpse. She shut off the light, not only to save battery power but to also to keep themselves from being spotted too easily. "Watch the corpses, there's lots of them up here." She kicked one of the dead miner's corpse out of way, paying no heed to whom it was. She didn't need anymore news to confirm that most of her friends were probably dying, dead...or undead.

June hadnt listened to Alice, instead she turned around and went in the direction of the nearest transit station in order to go back to the bridge. Hearing the roaring of the monster behind her she sped up to a sprint. In less than five minutes she arrived at the transit station. She bolted in the car then turned around to see if Alex had come with her.

"June, what wrong? One moment you hate captain, next you take offense when joke about him? "Alex asked as he caught up with June, when he noticed something about the dead creature near him. It was a ID badge, still attached to the engineer's jacket remains around it's body. "I know man." Alex said as he looked closer at the badge. He looked back at June when he heard somerhing. Alex looked back at the creature and noticed one thing that was off. It's head was still there. Alex began breathing hard as the creature slowly breathed, almost looking like it was sleeping. He looked at the creature to notice that it was significantly larger than he was. Ale backed away and pulled June away from it. Alex didn't say anything as he simply put one finger to his mouth. He grabbed his AK and loaded a fresh clip in it. By this time both June and Alex were in the transit. Alex pressed the button to go to the bridge when it's loud warning sound came on. *Ding* The creature make a sound that sounded like the same roar that they had heard before. It's claw-arm was shut in the heavy steel doors as it lunged at the two. Alex readied the AK as the transit started moving, ripping off the arm as it went up. Alex breathed a sigh of releif when the arm, spasming, cut into his leg, "Ahh!" Alex yelld out in pain as he grabbed the arm and smashed it against the wall. He then looked down at his leg to see a large gash in it almost a half-inch deep. "Мать одна шлюха! Он горит!" Alex said in pain as a burning sensation came from the wound.

The elevator doors open with a clank. Yuri wasn’t sure which level he was on; he had pressed the highest button on the control panel. A figure was moving out there, it looked humanoid, but with the lights flickering on and off he couldn’t tell, from what he could see was a whole lot of bodies on the floor. He made a decision, took a step forward and raised the plasma torch.

“Halt, identify yourself or I will use this,” his almost mechanical voice echoed through the corridor. With the suit hiding his human looks, he looked like a robot from two to three decades back.
