Welcome to 'Patria Delenda Est'.
IC Thread
~~
This is an RP that I hope will allow me to properly reshape Noronica into how I want it. I was unhappy with how my 'main characters' of the nation turned out, and as Noronica matured, I found that several of the older mechanics of the nation were not making sense with the new iterations of Noronica. Ergo, this RP was born to allow me to rebuild without changing nations or deleting things OOCly.

Background
~~
As Noronica grew back from its Civil War in the 1980s, many of the officials who helped to reshape Noronica were forced to merely brush the corruption and political rot under the carpet to allow the public to see a vibrant nation ready to once again take its place on the international stage. This rot festered and grew, leading to an uneasy alliance between the bureaucrats and highly influential businessmen.

When Joshua McIntosh came to power, he used the political rot and complacency to his advantage, rewriting the rulebook almost. Under the Government of Joshua McIntosh, the country became increasingly driven towards authoritarianism what with Joshua introducing new powers for the position of Prime Minister and new powers for the authorities to silence opposition. He began to reject any other figure of power besides him, including the ultimate executive figure, the crown. Joshua came into constant clash with Tytus Alexander, and with Tytus showing more unease towards the authority shown by Joshua, the more the two are headed towards a true confrontation.

Tytus led the Noronnican Freedom Movement in the 1980s, and he now sees that he failed in trying to limit the powers of the individual. As Joshua begins to limit the crown's influence in Noronica, Tytus grows ever restless, and so do many of those that are loyal to him. Loyal to his father, Tytus' son Trystan returns from his tours in Arván and Charbagnia and begins to climb the political ladder.

The situation at home is falling apart quickly. As the country now faces external threats from both Dormill and Stiura's increasing interest and demands in Arván, and Altera's separatist groups moving ever quicker towards independence, the factions involved in Noronica know that they race against the clock to solve the growing power struggle and take the helm of the country before it collapses.

General
~~
In this RP, I am drawing influence from the Thai Political Crisis in 2014, the English Civil War and Caesar's Revolt against Pompey and the Roman Republic. The most obvious influence is the English Civil War, as the two main factions that appear are the Royalists and those loyal to the Government.

However, the eventual Coup / Civil War will come later in the story. This shall be a political and intrigue RP at its foremost as the factions seek to win power and legitimacy. There will, of course, be a military aspect throughout the RP, I just don't want to rush into military clashing. If there is any violence in the beginning it shall be through small groups or individuals.

In the OOC, I want to flesh out roles for other nations involved. As mentioned above, Dormill and Stiura and Alteran Republics both have roles already in separate issues that will involve whoever takes power in Noronica.

I'd like to keep options open for people, but what I don't want is people strong-manning Noronica into doing their bidding, I am fine with personal interests taking precedence for people's involvement, but making Noronica a puppet is not on the table sadly.

Factions (WIP)
~~
  • Crown: Tytus Alexander, Prince Trystan and loyal royalists within the country want to try and remove Joshua and his Government from power. By doing so, Tytus would eventually take hold of the reigns once again, through force if necessary.
  • Government: Joshua McIntosh, his Government and other public officials want to retain power and will be trying to stamp down on any sign of revolt.
  • Federal Assembly Members: This is an interesting one, several influential politicians wish to try and ensure that the Federal Assembly retains power. Whoever wins, the Federal Assembly must still stand as the nation's legislature. If they see a powerful threat, however, they may even resort to more violent means.
  • Militias: Several violent groups comprised of civilians, veterans or current serving armed forces members, shall be operating around the country, each wanting one of the main two factions to win, or having their own desires for power. To do this, they'll need weapons and supplies.

This is just the bare bones of the sides I envision will be actors in the RP, I will hopefully update it further as characters are fleshed out.

Rules
~~
  • Only those who are in the region of The Western Isles and are established players (a.k.a with factbooks) can take part.
  • If you want to know something about Noronica culture-wise, politics-wise, etc. for posts - I'd be happy to answer questions.
  • Other than that, normal TWI rules apply.

Characters

Cedar M. Dyson, President of the United Republics: Dyson had been serving in the position of President for 3 years now, and has learned plenty in that time. He started out idealistic, believing that the government of the United Republics has shaken off the wrongdoings of the past and was dedicated to an ethical rule. This was shattered as his predecessor, President Richelieu, presented him with information on the secret and morally weak operations performed by the Bureau of Special Intelligence. Since then, Dyson had taught himself, with aid from his intelligence staff, Vice President Aalders, and other close members of his administration, how to truly be an effective President. This manifested in his attentiveness to foreign events and the perception of himself, the nation, and other leaders. Leading into the situation in Noronica, he has had a tense relationship with the Director of the Bureau, especially regarding her seemingly brash actions that has little reflection on the potential international reaction. This tense relationship, alongside its ripples throughout the Dormill-Stiuraian government, will be the source of tension as they try to respond to the situation in Noronica.

Keira Aalders, Vice President of the United Republics: (OOC: I haven't written much about her at all, but she'll probably be important)

Luther Van Buggenum, Ambassador to Noronica: The story of Luther is not necessarily eventful, he grew up in a small neighborhood of Kapolder with aspirations to join his father in his bike shop. Instead of that, however, he was dragged into the Dormill-Stiura War and fought with distinction. In the following years, went to the University of Kapolder to learn international business, eventually obtaining his degrees and working for a newly formed tech firm in Noronica. By the time he was noticed by the Manager for Foreign Affairs of Gael, Van Buggenum had learned Nyssic and ran three successful businesses in multiple locations across Noronica. He was selected to become the next Ambassador, which he accepted, leaving his companies to his son. His role as liaison between Republicans and Noronica will be put to great use as events unfold.

More characters and the story I want to tell will be added later.

I find it much more likely that D&S would try to play the two sides against each other while accomplishing its goal of securing greater control over Arvan and putting pressure on Noronnican influence.

Ah! I have an interesting idea and potentially nasty surprise for that. As we flesh out the story further, I'll introduce some of these details.

I would probably join Iosnil, but would like a bit more information about the policies of the Royalist policy, and the course of the Civil War, as the English Civil War was muddled and confusing (to me) whilst Caesar’s war seems more strait forward and clearer in its results.

It is a case of who can win the race to establish power over the state. If Joshua wins, then the monarchy will be abolished after it was showed to endorse civil disobedience and warmongering, therefore allowing Joshua to take the reigns as a Republican dictator. If the royalists win, then Tytus will be a Sulla/Attatürk, in that he will establish a military junta under himself to re-establish order. However, he is looking to just rebuild the status-quo and ensure no one can rise to power as easily again, which is problematic.

I have an ending in mind for the RP, but I want to see who joins either side and what makes sense as the RP progresses. The two influences are just that, influences, I'm drawing from them for ideas, but the RP won't follow them to the letter! :P

Ostehaar would probably try to make sure Lovsk remains secure from Noronnican intervention throughout the story. Some elements of the Oster government would work to gain some influence in Noronica and assist Tytus' side, as he is considered a long-time ally of Ostehaar.

That would make sense, I think Ostehaar would be the first place for Tytus to look for aid due to the last civil war.

Bringin up Lovsk, would you want an attempt on it by one of the sides? I feel that Joshua would perhaps attempt to secure it due to Oster support for Tytus, and it would be a show of strength. A clash between allies would be quite the interesting scene!

Two new posts! With things heating up on the mainland, a group of Sessux Islanders seeking for independence from Nolon City gather to discuss potential options with how they plan to move forward. Also, as Tytus moves against the Prime Minister, he sends his son Trystan to rekindle friendships with the old and influential aristocratic families of Noronica, most notably the prestigious Clan Godwin, long-time friends of the Alexanders.

Since Suttenlands is controlled by autocratic investors, the most powerful of which are Noronican, the nation has no choice to participate. Naturally, the Sutten elite wish to side with the monarch as authoritarian are less likely to notice their abysmal human rights record. However, the key decision makers oppose Tytus and want Sutten soldiers fighting for them.

That would be an interesting aspect to play out if you have two sides invested in this! How are they likely to proceed through the RP, for example, how far are you willing to go in terms of involvement?

Also, how would you envision Suttenland's relations with Noronica if the Monarchists/Governments forces won?

While the elite would be happy I can't imagine the monarchists feeling warm towards them. Behind the scenes they will be constantly trying to change sides but if they never succeed at that then their relationship could be poisoned as well as their economy put into distress.

More in terms of the story: would there be Sutten boots on the ground, would you be keeping a background role trying to weave cunning relationships with various factions, etc.?

I see, I'm thinking that the Nyssic overlords control the SAPO (Special Action Police Division, Suttenlands version of special forces) and would have a unit come in to protect them, commit assassinations etc. The real crux is that Suttenlands elite would like to just play both sides behind the scenes to somehow turn a profit, but their most powerful faction (old Gold Co. Norronicans) has a horse in the race and wants actual soldiers in the thousands to show up and help them out. If they make this demand, Suttenland must delivery.
