Discovery of Amrenia (MT, Open)

[Amrenia]

They had got past the border guard of Tarsas' colony a week earlier, using the jungles of their homelands as cover the Amrenian Freedom Fighters were here on a special mission. They were wearing the uniforms of a Raludcian Army Platoon that they had ambushed before crossing the border, all 25 of the unit were dressed and armed as a Raludcian Military unit would be as they made their way through the forests.

The team consisted of 25 Amrenians. 18 were of Raludcian descent but preffered to be called Amrenians. The other 7 were natives who were also fighting for their freedom against the colonists. The leader of the AFF had planned a way for Amrenia's independance - they would cause a war between two colonial powers so that they brought each other to their knees. In the midst of the chaos the AFF were going to seize the moment and liberate Amrenia from the Imperialistic overlords and build a new, democratic society.

The Plan was (In Ralud Army uniforms) to destroy a Tarsan village which would provoke war between Raludcia and Tarsus. In the midst of the war the freedom fighters would strike and drive both countries out and joining the two colonies together as a new country - Amrenia.

Small Tarsan Settlement - 1.09 Am

Petre Lainkonvich saw the houses up ahead. Rugged pioneer houses like most of the colonists they had recently been constructed and it was a small settlement with a cluster of 5 houses. They had only a sqaud of men defending them but his squad could take them out.

"Serge"

"Take out that guardhouse"

The man nodded and fired his RPG into the guardhouse, surely killing all inside.
This was the signal and the remaining freedom fighters charged into the village with fury they would liberate Amrenia even if it meant the sacrifice of innocents.

They went through each house shooting, stabbing and beating the civilians to leave none alive.

When they were done they burnt the village and shot one of their own men and left his body.

The body was in full Raludcian Army uniform and given a piece of paper with instructions to kill Tarsan Civilians. With the forged signature of the local Raludcian General.
The Freedom fighters retreated back into the forests, eager to see if their plan had worked.

" Once again thank you. We will repay you in a favor someday. "

They saw the ship in the distance it was massive compared to the patrol boat. So how the hell were they to get up there. They couldn't just tow the boat there private had to get to a hospital in the next hour.

"We will send a helicopter to get your man aboard the MIS Yonai. We have an excellent team of medics." Piodor said. "Can the rest of your men sail your patrol boat to a port or will you need help?" Piodor continued while his adjutant ordered a CH-53E Super Stallion to take off and help the western cubans.

" Well sir the climate of the surronding area is frezzing. Our private would survive even with the best treatment here and one more thing you know there is a hurrican going to hit the coast along here so if we can you tow our boat while we go on your ship. "

Camp Garrick
Compton twisted his pained and disgusted expression into a pitiful, mocking smile. "This tastes fantastic. What did you say it was again?"

The specialist tasked with distributing nodded while his shoulders dropped. "We do not have a name for it, but it is a stew with some local game that Captain Anderson's patrol shot."

"Well, let us not have this dish again too soon, eh?"

The cook nodded again and then continued down the line, ladling out the meal for the remainder of the field officers. As he walked away, Compton pushed the bowl towards the centre of the hastily constructed dinner table and pulled out a ration pack from his shirt. The other officers sitting around Compton smiled. And then quickly did the same.

"Well, gentlemen, aside from discovering that we brought with us the wrong chef, our operation appears to be going rather well." The dinner for the officers was held underneath a tent in the midst of numerous other tents. Despite the late hour, dozers continued to create empty space by clearing trees while lorries and utility vehicles shuttled crates of supplies and ammunition between the landing site and the perimeter fence.

In the days since landing, Camp Garrick had finally become a reality. While the majority of the construction operations were concentrated in King William's Sound and at the Northern Settlement, none of them were operational. Camp Garrick, however, already had a rudimentary airstrip and electrical generators that would allow it to receive direct resupply from the United Kingdom instead of via landing craft from Company ships.

And as Compton chewed on his flavourless vitamins, he could only hope that the resupply shipments would eventually include real fruit, real vegetables, and most importantly, real steak.

Northern Settlement
Located at the mouth of the Proulx River, named for the CEO of the Company, the Northern Settlement was far less operational than Camp Garrick. However, the presence of the ships and the support elements still aboard made Parker Connaught feel quite at ease about his safety. After all, the settlement was not unprotected.

The settlement was situated at the tip of a hilly peninsula. While the fresh water situation was less than ideal—the intermix of the ocean and the river made for an unpalatable brine—the position was wholly defensible. The barracks and command post were built atop the bluff that served to also overlook and thus defend the loading zones for the landing craft that were at sea-level on a flat plain beneath the bluff. Towards the east, the peninsula narrowed into an isthmus a few hundred metres across that was now defended by the soldiers and a barrier wall.

Although the settlement was barely underway, the Company had already sent word that the colony was to expand in order to better facilitate trade amongst the colony's neighbours. And for that reason, Connaught was to order a small force to head deep into the jungle and establish an outpost at the fork of one of the larger rivers on the continent.

Jungle of Amrenia
The Cormorant helicopters hovered over the treetops, the only break in which being the large rivers that dissected the jungle. Inside each, the Company mercenaries checked that their weapons were ready while the engineers checked their equipment. When the pilots were satisfied that the landing zone was safe, the doors slid open and the drop lines fell from the compartment. Moments later, the first Oceanian boots hit the ground after being battered around by the forest canopy.

Captain Pierre Bouchard quickly scanned the surrounding forest and found nothing but the incessant chirping and whooping of insects and monkeys. Bringing his rifle to bear upon one particular ape, he identified the creature as being non-threatening. For now. Snapping his arm forward, he signaled his men to fan out by fireteam and secure the immediate vicinity.

The company had landed near a hill where the River Senechal branched into two rivers. The main flow of the Senechal continued west into Raludcia whose claim terminated on the far side of the river. Further downriver in Raludcia, the Senechal would split again before emptying into the ocean. However, where Bouchard stood was also in sight of the junior branch, the Senechal-Petit, that flowed south forming the border between Tarsas and Raludcia and then into Chazicaria.

Bouchard pressed his finger into his mic to activate the device and then whispered, "Jones, set it up here. Kennedy, I want your platoon to establish a line of fire to the west-southwest and Adriaan, you are to take the north. Favager, I want you with me and setup posts to keep track of movements on the far side of the river.

Tarsas was done playing. An entire village had been destroyed. It's people slaughtered. Several squadrons of bombers had been transported in. They began to carpet bomb the forests with Napalm. Time to turn this forest into a plane. The area around the village was hit first.

After that, 15,000 troops will begin to comb the forest, killing anyone who shoots back.

Tumisium was advancing rapidly; with the great influx of population passing through the coastal settlements, there were almost two million native-born Pudites spread across the thirty Imperial Compounds and the two Company-operated Free Enterprise Zones. Although the monumental task of construction of each of the compounds themselves was still underway, each construction site was flanked by artificial prefabricated cities stretching across miles of cleared jungle. Over sixty-five thousand people inhabited each future compound site, including soldiers and civilians. The infrastructure to house these quickly expanding populations was growing rapidly as well; railroads and highways now connected most population centers, while small civilian airports and their larger military cousins were appearing across the colony.

The two Free Enterprise Zones were now fully functioning merchant cities; goods were coming out of the interior every day, Tumisium's jungle environs were rich in rare lumbers and valuable botanical specimens, while ever more minerals were pulled from the hills. The barge fleets moving up the Jingwei river in the east grew with each passing hour, sailing south from the Port Amity Free Enterprise Zone on the Jingwei river border with Inabi and numerous Imperial Compounds further upstream. In the south, the Port Concord Free Enterprise Zone on the sea watched the export of thousands of tons of grain, as the farms spread across the countryside newly cleared by logging. Rare plants and woods preceded the flow of barley, rice, and wheat from any of the five inland agricultural compounds of the south.

Soon, when the manufacturing resources were in place, the raw materials of Tumisium could be harnessed and shaped before export, and as always, as the stock of available resources increased so too did the surplus available to the Imperial Trading Company's merchants. Such merchants and their slave-staffed businesses sought eagerly to contract foreign trade partners, and to profit from the natural wealth of the Dominate's newest colonial possession. The Jingwei river in the east and the Su Shuang river that made up the western border with Onyenu and Western Cuba were both opened to foreign traffic bound for either Port Amity on the Jingwei, or Imperial Compound Zero-One-Two located at the mountainous headwaters of the Su Shuang.

From the Su Shuang and the Jingwei river networks the Pudite traders of the Company could access directly ten of the fifteen foreign states located across Amrenia; with a central location unmatched by any Amrenian colonial power the Dominate was in the prime position for the pursuit of international commerce.

Northern Settlement
Parker Connaught swatted an enormous fly from his arm, only to find a growing red mark. "Bloody insects," he muttered as he reached for ointment. Fortunately, the medical staff sent by the Company had determined that the Amrenian Fly carried few diseases fatal to humans. At least yet. When he finished rubbing the lotion on the insect bite, he leaned back into his seat and picked up the jacket he had been perusing moments before.

The company was anxious for the first sign of a return on its massive investment into Amrenia. After all, this was not a colony being run by the taxpayer. The Oceanian West Amrenia Company had been founded in the interest of earning income from the selling and transporting of goods in the Amrenian interior. However, as the maps in Connaught's jacket revealed, the interior had been claimed by two small colonies: Arabiak and Western Cuba. Suffice it to say, the board had been none too pleased about the failure to rapidly expand that far.

"Studying your maps again, Mr. Connaught?" came the now-familiar voice of General Mark Graves, the leader of the mercenary force in the colony.

Connaught nodded without looking up to acknowledge the man. Connaught simply noted that the general fell with a heavy thump into the seat opposite his makeshift desk. "Indeed, General. The board is less than pleased with our expansion."

The general did not answer and instead struck up a flame from a lighter and lit a cigarette. "But aside from you, sir, which of those suits has come to look at this here?"

"Nobody."

"Then let them fly over here and land on a dirt airstrip and begin to understand how in less than a month, we have managed to acquire this much land with so few personnel."

"But we shall be receiving another batch of reinforcements and even settlers by week's end."

"True, sir. However, that will still permit us to only establish distant outposts that are connected to this settlement and the other outposts by dirt airstrips. Your folks are still sounding out the river and Lord knows how long it will be until the railways are finished." Graves took a long drag on his vice and then extinguished it in Connaught's ashtray. Without saying a word, Graves stood.

"I have done these sorts of missions before, sir. Everything is going as well as can be expected for such a short period of time." With that the general walked out as silently as he had entered.

Connaught was left to his maps and production reports once more. Already surveyors were exploring the headland of the Carbonia River hoping to find some mineral deposits. Smaller teams of surveyors were exploring the upriver areas along the Amritsa and Proulx and along the Senechal. And in the interim, loggers were busy making use of the forest nearest each camp and the settlement converting the raw material into construction materials that would perhaps add some more comforting structures other than the prefabricated barracks and offices.

And while most of the civilian population that had arrived had settled in Northern Settlement, a significant number of civilians from the United Kingdom metropole were landing around the three mercenary camps: Camp Garrick, Camp Jarvis, and Camp Cordiale. Most of the new settlers appeared to be providing services to the mercenaries, from food, beverage, and apparel to the more risque. Regardless of which sectors of the economy the newly arrived settlers were contributing, Connaught hoped that the Company would at least be pleased that it was receiving enough publicity back home to attract settlers.

Tarsas began to heavily fortify it's settlements. Barbed wire, hidden cameras, bunkers, and guard posts were placed in settlements. Larger military outposts with garrisons of 2,000 troops were placed in regions as regional response areas. Each one had aircraft and vehicles as well. To better arm against the rebels, flame throwers have been made standard issue to troops serving in the colony. Vast tracts of forest are being burned to make farmland and all forests near settlements are no more. For dozens of miles around every settlement, the forests have been cleared. Fertile plains now remain with no places to hide.

Each region gets 5 UAV patrols a day. The UAVs have thermal and regular cameras. They can easily spot enemy rebels and make sure they are not normal colonists by looking how they are acting and their clothing. Spies begin to probe surrounding colonies for these attackers. The Tarsasian government suspects that another force besides Racludia is a work here, but leads are required and the spies should get them. The Racludian body was found and sent off to Racludia to see if it was a soldier in their army.

The colony now holds over a million citizens. Many of them are from different countries and not just from Tarsas. Only about half the people are from Tarsas. The colony has recently discovered iron and coal on it's colony and the mining business is a very profitable one. Of course the mines are tightly secured and under heavy guard by the best troops. Rubber, tea, weat, rice, and corn are several crops grown in the colony and the tourism industry has exploded. The profitable colony is well defended with numerous UAV border patrols. Any native that will settle down and become a citizen is allowed to, but natives that take aggressive action against the colony are worked to death in work camps.

The main five cities are the major population centers. They are where most of the defense forces are stationed and where 90% of the airforces are stationed. Coastal patrol craft tackle pirates and massive ore freighters and container ships are often seen leaving the main port of Tarsan. The three rivers in the delta were named the Sharvan, the Amgos, and the Pavan after the three explorers that explored the territory held by Tarsas. The border rivers are called the Anerve and the Parnen. The fertile river delta where the river splits and flows into the sea produces thousands of tons of rice.

Colonists continue to stream in from all around and a variety of languages and cultures are expressed in the colony. Novelty shops featuring items from all the peoples that call Tarsas home fill the streets. Three major roadways (two going North/South, and one going east/west) and two major rail lines (one going North/South, and one goin east/west) were made across the colony and are the main transport routes. River boats are also extremely popular and transport tons of goods from all over the colony to the port to be sold all around. Large, flat bottomed ore and coal barges slowly trundle up and down the rivers at all hours of the day and night pushed along by tugboats of all sizes. The rivers are wide, deep, and unbroken by waterfalls or mountains due to the flat terrain of the colony making river transport the primary way to move goods and materials up and down the colony.

The large and wealthy port city of Tarsan was the first settlement and contains over 500,000 of the colony's population. It is also heavily defended, more so than any other city in the colony making attack from land a futile and impossible effort for all but the biggest nations. It also has extensive naval fortifications and defenses making sea attacks costly and futile as well. The other cities are not this way, but projects are underway to make them as well defended as Tarsan, though it may be a while. The city has large, ocean going vessels coming and going 24 hours a day and it a major center of commerce in Amrenia. The Tarasian ore freighter, designed for ore rich Tarsas, suits this iron rich land well also. 24 of them go back and fourth between Tarsas and her trading partners and hold millions of tons of ore. They are as big as the biggest modern oil tankers. Massive container ships that transport the numerous manufactured goods and crop exports also frequent this harbor. Over 36 of these massive ships make a round trip between Tarsas and her trading partners.

Another major industry is the fishing industry. Thousands of fishing boats go out every season or everyday (depending on the type of fish they catch) to catch fish and fish is one of the main food staples in the colony. Fishermen are paid well and fish markets, restaurants, and pharmaceutical manufacturers buy fish from them. The main two purposes for purchasing them is to eat them, and to extract the valuable and healthy fish oil for medicines and vitamin supplements. Thousands of fish migrate through and live in the waters around the colony, allowing for unrestricted and bountiful fishing. Fish from Tarasian Amrenia are also a delicacy in the mother country of Tarsas due to the tropical variety that are not found in the cold waters of Tarsas and are exported there for significant profits. The harbor is often choked with fishing boats and a fishing colony 40 miles outside of the city had to be created to reduce this traffic for the bigger ships. The Colonial Ministry has also made it significantly harder to acquire fishing licenses until the fishing colony gets big enough to support many boats. The port is heavily policed and piracy is unknown in Tarasian Amrenia and on the route in between Tarsas and her colony.

The two cities on the Parnen River (the border river with the two red dots) are major river ports. Goods and materials are transported there by river to then be sent inland by rail to the two major inland cities. After the rails end, small roads that go to the settlements are used to take the goods to their final destination. The same route is also the way to move goods produced by the settlements to the port. A less prominent but still large industry is the transportation industry. Railroad and Trucker companies make millions transporting goods to and from the settlements. This attracts numerous people to move up north to the headquarters of the railroad and trucking companies to seek work. People in these professions are handsomely paid.

Education has also hit the colony with a public school in every settlement and several dozen in the cities. The University of Tarsan recently opened it's doors and offers 20 majors and 100 minors. It was opened to eliminate the need to travel to the motherland to seek higher education. The University is small and to get more advanced degrees, one must travel to the motherland. The postal service also recently hit the colony. The entire colony is now covered by the postal service, the northern, less developed areas being reached by plane or train. Telephones, satellite and cable TV, internet, and cellphones are available to colonists in major cities and some settlements. Several hydroelectric power plants were constructed to provide power to the colonists and a nuclear plant was built in a secret location to power the areas not covered by the hydroelectric power. Running water is available to the entire colony with several large water treatment plants located all over the colony. Police coverage is extensive and covers the entire colony.

New projects that are being enacted now are mainly defense. Security is being heavily increased and an effort to increase farm output is currently underway with more land being cleared.

After shiping of the western cubans, apart from the injured unit, at their new colony and wishing them good luck with it, admiral Piodor sailed past the coast of Raludcia and Tarsas. He heard the news of the raludican attack on a tarsan village and feared that it might have been the raludican rebels the Most Serene Republic supported.
"Fly me to Lacynost immediately" he said to one of his pilots getting into a fighter.
"Yes my lord" the pilot said before taking of from the deck of the ship.

The mostly Esselen but also Umatilla recruits fired their weapons without hitting their targets. Prince Amos Alcedina watched as the centurion continued the drill with the natives. Amos had decided that the colony's armed forces should contain native auxillaries and so far 500 had volunteered for the job. It had been no problem to pay the natives who was adjusting very well to the society of their colonial overlords. With the economy of the colony begining to take of many jobs had been created not only for settlers but also for the natives, mostly in the pharmaceutical industry that dominated the economy of Alcedina Minor.
Prince Amos watched as suddenly a fighter aircraft in the quendi colors landed on the newly finished airport of Lacynost. Seeing admiral Piodor step out of it he good a bad feeling that something was wrong.
"Governor" Piodor said when the two men meet "Someone has attacked and butchered a tarsan villiage. The ralducians seems to be responsible, but what if it is the new amrenian rebels?"
"This is most disturbing news." Prince Amos said "Send our spies to both Tarsas and Raludica to see if they can find out what has happened. If the amrenians is behind i guess we will have to withdraw our support for their cause." he continued.
"Yes your imperial highness" Piodor said going out to inform the II in the colony about their new mission.

The Empire now OFFICIALLY hands over the control of the Windican Colony of Psyriph to the Windica Corporation and its affiliates. By this move, we hope that the Empire will profit more once it is in the hands of the wealthier Corporation. However, the Corporation shall give up 20% of its income to the Imperial Government.

Immediately after the official statement of the Imperial Office, thousands of colonists flocked from Windica to the colony of Psyriph, with the Corporation's backing. With the wealth of the Corporation, colonial officials started to fortify the claims of Windica, and all around the colony, natives were either forced to leave their homelands, enslaved, or killed. The Corporation has also brought in its 'small' army, the Windica Corporate Mercenaries, to control the colony. Of course, with colonies come profit, and the Corporation has put up some buildings dedicated to bringing profit from the colony like hotels, malls, and plantations. This brought more income to the Corporation, and also brought more income to the Empire from taxes.

The Emperor has sent a message to Onyenu, offering a hefty sum(A$10 Billion) for Onyenu's southern domains. If accepted, this area shall also pass into the Corporation's hands. Also, the city has been inaugurated as the 'capital city' of the Corporation.
