Almost a year ago, the state of Steinbaach seceded from the United Socialist States of Oppermenia. This was because of many authoritarian, almost oppressive actions Oppermenia's government took. With gun control, forcing criminals on death row to fight to the death and televising it, and other actions regarding both domestic and international policies, Steinbaach felt it had gone too far. Outlawing capitalism and installing Socialism as a national policy was the last straw.
Steinbaach maintains that the government is too tyrannical and oppressive, and they've gone too far in the past, and will continue to do so. So, as a result, Steinbaach seceded from the Union and declared war on the Oppermenian Federal Government. A Libertarian country, they hope to win the war and become their own country, built off of Libertarian, Capitalist, Democratic values. It's being led by the Libertarian Governor of Steinbaach, Michael Stein (ironically enough, cousin to the leader of Oppermenia). This will be particularly interesting, since Steinbaach holds one of the largest military defense strongholds in Oppermenia, so it could give them an incalculable advantage.
Oppermenia maintains that Steinbaach is being arrogant by seceding from the Union, and that any conflict started can be solved and ended through simple negotiations. Oppermenia doesn't want to fight this war, nor see one of their oldest member states leave. Yes, they were once authoritarian and tyrannical. However, they've taken less oppressive policies more recently. After Socialism was installed, they also installed vigorous welfare. They also made marriage equality the law of the land, even giving citizens the right to multiple spouses. They increased political freedoms by giving citizens the right to vote on more things, and further increased civil rights. They hold the position that they've changed, and there's no reason for Steinbaach to leave. They hope to work out whatever problems they may have, and keep Steinbaach home. It's being led by Mitchell Opperman, the country's founder.
After almost a year, the civil war still rages on. It hasn't gotten hot yet, with little battles, and just negotiations. It's been at a constant stalemate. However, this will soon change. Steinbaach is looking for allies. And because of that, Oppermenia will need allies, too. So, join a side. Either Steinbaach, the Democratic Capitalist Libertarians; or Oppermenia, the Democratic Socialist Left-wingers. If Steinbaach wins, then they'll become their own country. If Oppermenia wins, then Steinbaach will stay. Or, will they? Who will win? Well, how about we find out?
