The Gateway War

July 1898, in past two decades the Empire Radimostan was defeated in multiple colonial wars, the fallout of these failed wars was severe. Almost all colonies have been lost and the wars themselves completely depleted the state treasury. On 3rd June 1896, the unpopular Radimostanian monarch, Emperor Venceslav VII died without an heir. The very next week, the Parliament had assembled to find a solution for this, peculiar situation. Their decision shocked the nation. The so-called Radimostanian Empire have been abolished. Now it is already two years since the President Lukáš Vlček has taken the office and the wounds still weren't healed. With no colony that could be used as a source of revenue, the homeland was on its own. In order to at least somewhat stabilize the financial situation of the new government, the import duties were increased substantially.
Meanwhile on the northern side of The Great Gateway straight laid another nation, the so-called Monarchial Socialist Republic of Vymar. It was an interesting, or more accurately, bizarre state. Formed in 1836 when a socialist group exploited the popularity of a claimant of the Vymarian throne, in order to depose the Vymarian Republic. Unfortunately, while the monarch gave the socialist movement some legitimacy, it was now a problem for the socialists to get rid of him. This resulted in a hybrid monarchical-socialist regime, which is de facto nothin more than a regular dictatorship. By the late 19th century, Vymar was a rising power with great ambitions. Nevertheless, it was still quite depended on foreign markets, so when the Radimostanian Republic had declared the new tariffs, Vymar responded with a blockade. Hoping that they will not only be able to lift the punitive import duties, but also usurp the status of the Regional Power, from once prospering Radimostan.
At first, open warfare seemed implausible. After all, Radimostan has raised the tariffs in order to pay its already existing war debts. And on another hand, Vymar was not yet prepared to fight a major power. So the nations had begun to negotiate. But as the days turned to weeks, and the tariffs nor blockade were lifted, it became obvious that the voice of guns will roar once again.

Estaria is an open and young region. While we have some rough idea of how the lore of this region should look like, there is a lot of place for your ideas and, let's say "customization."
