Rain swept the weathered flagstones of Jesney Island, driven by a fearsome northerly wind tinged with an unseasonable chill. The little town, radiating out concentrically from the huge complex of military drydocks at its centre, slept on, oblivious to the tempest breaking out at sea. Jesney had seen its fair share of storms. The easternmost Alexiandran settlement, it formed a natural bulwark against the stormy waters that guarded the Republic's maritime frontier. It might seem curious, then, that Jesney had been chosen as early as 1904 to serve as the Alexiandran Navy's primary staging post for outbound operations. Yet the inclemency of the island's environs had great strategic value, if estimated correctly. During the Great War, the nation's submarine fleet had taken refuge here, relying on nature's wrath to deter pursuit. In the conflict's final stages, Jesney had served as the rally point for the High Seas Fleet, Alexiandra's principal blue-water strike force; aided by timely meteorological forecasts from nearby Hockney Point, friendly warships had been able to navigate the region's perilous channels and thus safeguard themselves from enemy ambush. Not even the inexorable march of time could diminish Jesney's value as a strategic emplacement. Now, with modular ships and ever-more accurate forecasting, the Alexiandran Navy could peruse the labyrinthine channels with relative ease. Moreover, the dark storm clouds that habitually masked the settlement effectively precluded satellite photography and frustrated all but the most sophisticated of reconnaissance planes.

It came as no surprise, therefore, when the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced in an internal bulletin that Jesney would serve as the assembly area for forces bound to the defence of the Australian Democratic Union. Within hours, a wildly variegated assortment of ships had trickled into the island's harbours. Destroyers stood in shark-like profile against the rising sun, the waves lapping at their matte-grey hulls. Some kilometres to the south, in the island's largest natural inlet, bobbed two truly gargantuan constructions - Harbinger-class aircraft supercarriers, titanic legacies of the previous administration's naval expansion programme. Their runways shone with oceanic perspiration, almost ready to receive the scores of fighter jets sitting like grounded eagles on each craft's surface. Men crawled like ants over these vast metallic tableau, hauling crates, fitting weapons and cursing the summer downpour. Inland, meanwhile, their counterparts in the Air Force cursed with equal ferocity as they fought with slippery fingers to fasten couplings, load ammunition and test flight controls. They were observed with some amusement by those members of the Republic Marines assigned to perimeter defence, who huddled about in ponchos and cradled their rifles to their chests in a futile attempt to generate heat. The whole tedious operation of refitting, resupplying, rearming and replenishing this vast armada had been ongoing since the day previous, and was finally nearing completion. On the other side of the country, across the vast plains of the midwest and the riverine landscape beyond, the process was being scrupulously imitated over and over again. Alexiandra was going to war for the first time in years, and the whole convoluted machinery of state was grinding into action.

On the bridge of the PS Uprising, his flagship, Admiral Pierre Guillot greeted the rising sun with a yawn. Coffee cup in one hand and binoculars in the other, he was a child's image of the field commander - mustachioed, balding and imbued with all the postural rigidity the Academy could instil. The map in front of him, on the other hand, presented a more modern image altogether. A long LCD display, it set the position of each ship in the fleet against the most recent satellite imagery of the region. There was Jesney, shrouded in darkness, and there was the open sea beyond, recalcitrant as ever. The Admiral blinked, momentarily blinded by the sun, and set his coffee down on top of Lockbourne. Everything was well, at least according to the map - all fifteen ships of the initial screening force were on station at Jesney, with the thirty earmarked for blockade duty still inbound. The last ship (PS Robin, out of Fort Orange) was due to arrive in a little under three hours. After a couple of hours for refuelling and repairs, the task force would be ready to depart. Nodding with practised satisfaction, Guillot rehearsed the plan in his mind, projecting it mentally onto the map in front of him. Later that day, the fifteen ships of the advance screening force would depart for the Australian Democratic Union, preceded in their turn by a pack of hunter-killer submarines requisitioned from the northern frontier. Once they had verified that both the literal and the proverbial coasts were clear, the main assault force - consisting of fully thirty ships - would set sail, accompanied by an entourage of ten hunter-killer submarines. The combined fleet's objective was simple: to find and eliminate Trabenian naval forces in the vicinity of Australia. Worwinian forces were to be considered co-belligerents of the Trabenians, and thus subjected to attack wherever encountered. As Guillot's task force completed its grisly task, a second armada - containing the all-important troopships of the Republic Marine Corps - would amass at Jesney and begin the voyage to Australia. Once there, they would land in support of Australian forces.

This bipartite operation was no simple task, and many in Lockbourne had balked at its magnitude. Alexiandra had been secure in its naval prowess for many years, and many in the Assembly had forgotten the whinny of engines and the thunder of guns. But now each passing day brought the promise of new bloodshed to awaken the sleeping bear, and the general public was beginning to overcome its instinctive pacifism and warm to the task ahead. Guillot himself was unperturbed by public sentiment, whatever its direction - he was a sailor, and had been since the Great War. He was among the finest Admirals the Republic had to offer, and was bound by his aged conception of honour to defend Australia to the last gasp. And that is precisely what he intended to do, even if the coffee aboard the Uprising was positively rancid.

The Worinian navy begins their assault on the Australian navy, successfully making it far enough for about 800 troops to land on the Australian shore. However, Worwin suffered quite a few casualties, with six sunken ships and about 500 soldiers dead out of a total of the initial 6,000 (not 7,000). This leaves 4,700 troops still on battleships, continuing to clash with the Australian fleet.

I have approved the deployment of 15 thousand men of the 12th armored guard's regiment... These are our elite tank crewman and once mobilized we also plan to send a regular infantry division. Our Airforce is also sending The 21st Expeditionary wing, a crack mobile response wing that consists of two fighter squadrons, both with Su-30s, An interceptor squadron with Mig-31s, two airlift squadrons with Il-76s, and one rotary wing squadron comprising of MI-8s. I thank the nation for its support... so let's win this war!

Good evening my fellow Novalinians. I and saddened to report but a couple of days ago, the United Henryist Republic of Trabena have declared war on our Democratic Kingdom. This will not go unanswered. Some news outlets may have already reported it, but the aircraft carrier, LMS Rolling Thunder, and some other destroyers and battle ships have left dock 30 minutes ago. The carry 650 planes, with 200 of those being bombers, and 3,500 men ready for combat. They left from Guam, and will arrive in Oceania in a week, with Australia and Trabena in striking distance in 3 days. Thank you, and God bless our brave troops.

We as Orosians should stand to oppose unprovoked violence, as well as warmongering dictators, and the Henryists have shown disregard for the peace. As much as I personally oppose the Australian government, it is in the interests of democracy and freedom to side with them, regardless of ideological differences. OOC: In the name of time my troops are now in Australia, pretend weeks have passed or whatever it just does not make sense to realistically wait for the trip to conclude.

The T-90 MBTs and BTR-80 APCs were ready to storm the Worwin left flank. The division was 15,000 men strong and hoped that the overwhelming air support and artillery fire would allow them to surround the Worwin frontlines. The artillery waited for the planes to start their attack, for each battery an officer was screaming the time to kick off. Finally, the SU-25s roared overhead and the officers screamed FIRE! The Tanks and APC's immediately started rolling as artillery and jets roared overhead. A four-ship of Mi-24s came overhead, then wave after wave of attack helicopters appeared. The Artillery did not stop they were firing so fast that soldiers had six hoses on each piece to keep them cool. Under the cover of the artillery and jets, the tanks were able to put the Worwin flank in the range of their guns and started to fire at there positions. The attack could be heard for miles and many wondered if the worwin troops would stay and fight.
