Greetings,

It is the opinion of the God-Empress, Crown Princess, and Imperial Government that Aestoria has been slow to act and is generally more focused on keeping other nations out of Azadistan than restoring order inside Azadistan. Aestorian thinking in this conflict has been dominated by half measures and poor planning. As it stands the men of the Aestorian military serve as the walls of a petri dish containing a dangerous cancer that must be destroyed.

The God-Empress and Crown Princess would say the Aestorian government had taken the correct action in absorbing Azadistan, had the Aestorian government taken the appropriate action to mitigate, curtail, and eventually eliminate the threat of rogue elements within Azadistan. However, Aestoria has failed in doing so, which was the sole purpose of inserting themselves into this conflict. Aestorian words are just that, words. Has not taken appropriate physical action to aggressively correct the state of affairs in Azadistan.

Though the Aestorian government has repeatedly asserted that “there is no longer any need for war, and there is no longer any war to fight” they have turned a blind eye to the very circumstances that brought them to Azadistan. In the days since this proclamation the Aestorian government has allowed Azadistan to menace yet another nation unchecked, the Munkcestrian Republic, and raid neighboring countries without repercussions. They have also failed to take action against terrorist elements operating in Azadistan as well as the Sultan which operates a military force with impunity.

As it stands, Aestorian plans to operate hospitals and schools within Azadistan will be for naught if the terrorist elements within Azadistan are free to The God-Empress and Crown Princess question whether the Aestorian government is capable of wresting control of the situation and has a desire to so. Or, was all of the military might brought to bear around Azadistan’s maritime borders just a fleet-week like exhibition. Old Beringia will not be deterred by such displays.

As it stands your military is only serving as a barrier to prevent other nations willing to do what is needed to be done to restore order while Azadistan makes a mockery of your nation, by terrorizing its neighbors and continuing the behavior the Aestorian government pledged to end, behind your steel wall. The Imperial Government does not usually recognize the concept of war crimes but if there was ever a time where the term would be appropriate it would be with regards to the actions of the criminal, failed, and illegitimate Azadistan government and the Sultan which leads it.

The Aestorian decision to absorb Azadistan has only served to shield a failed terrorist state from the justified and appropriate consequences of it’s actions. The diplomatic channels Aestoria has chosen to promote are fundamentally flawed when Azadistan is still able to indiscriminately and remorselessly export their brand of chaos to their neighbors and the world. And the Aestorian government is unwilling to root out the terrorist elements operating with, what are now, it’s own borders. As such the Empire of Old Beringia will do so in it’s place for the benefit of the international community and world at large. With or without the approval of the Aestorian government. Should Aestoria choose to prevent, hinder, or otherwise impede Beringian ships, aircraft, and personnel a state of war will exist between the Empire of Old Beringia and the Aestorian Commonwealth.

The God-Empress’s justice will be swift and a new Azadistan, created in her image, will be allowed to thrive in it’s proper place. We will aggressively seek to restore order and punish the wicked.

The sea was relatively calm today, typical of the region. A lone container ship sailed towards the Aestorian blockade along a standard shipping route into Azadistan, seemingly unaware of the abnormal circumstances brewing beyond its deck. It had been steaming forward at a lowered speed of around 22 knots for most of that day in order to conserve fuel. The craft carried a standard compliment of 17 crew members, with two of them being government mandated “counter-piracy advisers”. A fancy way of saying private contractors that read the Imperial Government’s memo on piracy. The Dardanelles bridge was manned by the bare minimum of three men, a navigator, a lookout, and one of the two CPAs.

Though the Imperial Government was attempting to make inroads with the new administration. Considering forces using the Canary Islands as a staging point had already begun to amass there, this was a last minute decision. The sudden shift in the landscape of the conflict had prompted quick, yet considered thinking, and the Privateer Corps was the answer. Azadistan was not to be the target of a Beringian expeditionary force or the pin cushion of the nearest naval based QRF, an arsenal ship battle group in the Mediterranean. That was neither the objective of their mission or the desire of the Crown Princess, who crafted this operation. Nor was it the image she wanted to project to the international community at the moment.

Composed of smaller, more heavily armed craft and subs it was a flotilla designed to harass larger formations, merchant shipping and other lone ships as well as perform coastal raids and other low intensity land operations. With an attached unit of the DIII’s Field Operations Division/Special Action and Observation they had a much more pointed goal than invade. But before any of that was to happen. Commodore Bordelon, the flotilla’s commander, had to meet with Atkemri officials on the Canary Islands. A small security detachment joined him as a RHIB ferried him to the coast for the meeting.

Re: The Exodian & Beringian statements

We regret that the Executive Office of the Exodian Territories & of the Foreign Correspondance Office of Beringia has not joined international observers and observed the arrival of 20,000 federal police officers and 2,000 prosecutors. Since they have hitherto failed to approach Azadistan in peace, it is not to be wondered that they lack a complete picture of the facts, which, in the interests of international peace and security, we will endeavour to provide. Of course things are a bit chaotic by our standards but I'm assured that the civil servants are getting stuck in to the challenge and we expect the number to rise considerably as we continue to sort out office space and hire locals.

We recognize the Azadistan regime was undoubtedly not run to the Aestorian standard, or even the lower prevailing standard. This is why we proposed their taking a break from being independent. There appears to be no other reasonable way to solve this problem short of outright invasion, which, while perhaps the preferred course by the Executive & Foreign Correspondence Office, would not be a great idea. Because Azadistan is now within the law and order of the Aestorian Commonwealth, the regime can now pose no further threat to international security, and they are not beyond the reach of the perhaps slow but meticulous due process that is Aestorian law, with its universalist approach to jurisdiction. It appears the Executive Office of the Exodian Territories & perhaps also the Foreign Correspondance Office of Beringia have not yet fully appraised themselves of the meaning of clauses 104, 105, 201 (i), (iii), (iv), (vi), (vii), (viii), 202, and 301 of the governing treaty, which I would be happy to explain in greater detail if they would like me too.

It is also the case that Aestorian law requires that its local governments have elected representatives, and elections will be arranged shortly.

We note that we have saved Azadistan from the fate of having their country bombed into destruction. We have further saved your countries from starting a war on terror which would kill millions of people and probably serve no purpose except to make different religious groups and nationalists try to bomb and murder and rape each other. As I said to Parliament only yesterday, "f the people of the Angel alliance had any sense they’d thank us. I hear that Muslim counterinsurgencies can be extremely bloody and extremely expensive. Their executives may have a gung-ho jingoistic attitude, but there is nothing light-hearted about war and terrorism and if the people of the world have any sense they will restrain their bloodthirsty warmongering politicians and vote for a more sensible foreign policy than trying to invade a nation which is on the brink of becoming a failed terrorist-filled state while simultaneously fighting a fully developed nation with powerful trading allies, which, if push comes to shove, will give them a war that will teach them the benefit of peace." This statement could apply equally to Beringia, although we note their more restrained tone does them more credit.

Finally we note that Azadistan is entirely free to resume their sovereign independence when it ceases to be convenient. States have previously peaceably exited the Commonwealth, e.g. Bvordxa, and they are freely entitled to do so. Azadistanis, as a peoples, did not intend to be terrorist haven, and we intend to help them get rid of that.

While we hope and expect the Exodian territories to refrain from further escalation, until the Executive Office retracts its statement, the Commonwealth hereby revokes the presumption of innocent navigation enjoyed by military forces of the Exodian Territories on the high seas. If the embargo is not lifted within a week we shall further consider what measures are necessary to exclude them from international markets.

As regards Beringia, we would welcome the assistance of any intelligence agents or indeed aerial and border intelligence within the proposals for an International Monitoring Group. To be clear, this includes Beringian ships, aircraft, and personnel.

However we are also concerned that due process and the elimination of crime and terrorism can only be effectively provided by boots on the ground, notepads in the pocket, lawyers in court, and an army of investors waving money around behind. Extrajudicial killing is at best imperfect and would lead to civilian casualties and resentment in the population: I understand it is difficult to definitively identify a terrorist from twenty thousand feet. More broadly we do not think it appropriate that large numbers of weapons should be brought into Azadistan, as we do not want people in Azadistan to feel compelled to own them for their own defence. A hundred million guns in a still shaky country would not make it a safer place. Further military forces are at best unnecessary and at worst positively dangerous, increasing the possibility of friendly fire. Besides Ausitoria already has more than enough force to invade Azadistan several times over, even if everybody there turns out to be a terrorist. There are already peacekeepers from over seven different nations.

Therefore we will be compelled to either search and relieve any Beringian craft entering the exclusion zone for weapons, or, for a reasonable number of forces, require that Beringia agree to refrain from using their weapons except in self-defence or with the clear permission of court warrants. We would of course be happy to provide our own armed escorts if Beringia would like. We look forward to discussions with Beringia about which of these options they would prefer to pursue.

More generally, as I think it might be useful for the executives in these offices, I would like to recount a story that a couple of generals have told me, in different forms. The first talked about his grandfather, the later Emperor Polepen of Valexia, who, when he started his campaign against Bvordxa, worked for a government that had decreed that an army could live off another country. Now, this was forced somewhat by necessity, but the decree was of course right. That is until the country decided it didn't like being lived off.

The other general talked about how, when he was a commando, he witnessed first hand how one side requisitioned mattresses, while the other side handed out provisions, and he knew instantly which side was going to win the war.

More widely I note we have also dispatched forces, led by the 73rd Battle Fleet, to assist Kyneland should it require it for any reason.

The very furthest patrols were carried out by a mixture of Kraken Flarecraft and Angel II Fighter-bombers. With their extensive range, and the fact that they were smaller than the large patrol aircraft and therefore did not so much refuelling, it was their duty to float around checking ships.

John Fitzchen buzzed his Kraken flarecraft round while a small drone leapt off his left wing to go and circle closer. It was a container ship, the CS Dardanelles, flagged Beringian, was sailing along a standard shipping route into Azadistan. This was extremely standard except for the peculiarity that only Panessos investors were seriously trading with Azadistan, and that the Beringians had just issued what they called an ultimatum. (The devil lay in the detail).

"This is Flying Office John Fitzchen of the 32nd Aestorian Battle Fleet," he said, nonchalantly over the radio. "You are entering an exclusion zone. How d'you do," he said, his accent slipping slightly Austrailanorian. (It happened).

Current State of Azadistan

War:

In view of the complete absence of attacks upon the Aestorian Commonwealth or its territories and protectorates, the Aestorian Commonwealth is operating under the assumption that the sole declaration of war (from Atkemri) against the Commonwealth is notional and that war has been averted.

As such the Commonwealth will continue to provide assistance to Atkemri civilians on the high seas and protection from slaver raids. However the Commonwealth shall cease to presume innocent navigation on the high seas by Atkemri warcraft.

The Commonwealth would like to note a wider war would be disruptive to its trade, especially with major trading partners in the Panessos Free Trade Zone, Reichsburg Free Trade area, the Western Atlantic; if such trade was interrupted the Commonwealth and its allies would be compelled to take any such war to its enemies to strangle their economies and political willpower as necessary to restore peace. However the Commonwealth, unlike the aggressors, has no territorial ambitions against any would-be enemies and intends only the defence of justice, peace, liberty, and prosperity. We would like to reiterate that the correct way to achieve these is through appropriate courts and diplomatic channels.

To this end the Commonwealth requests and requires the return of former prisoners of war, now held in bondage without charge or habeus corpus, as required under multiple international laws; and the proper treatment of human remains, as required under for instance clause 11 of GAR 375.

The Commonwealth would finally like to note, in the interest of de-escalation, that our deterrent covers Azadistan.

Peace:

The Commonwealth would like to thank international peacekeepers and humanitarian workers in the country for their assistance while we set up the federal government. The Federal Government has divided the country into ten administrative districts and is planning to operate 100 ports and airports, planning 100 new power stations, planning to operate 1000 hospitals, planning 10,000 new schools, planning everything from waste management to wifi and firefighters to financial systems, and there are now well over 100,000 federal civil servants working on Azadastani. International assistance will be greatly appreciated in assisting development plans in the coming months.

The Commonwealth shall also be exempting Azadastani from federal income tax, company tax, and value added tax this financial year as part of the refugee resettlement programme.

The government of Mecklenburg-Cispomerania wishes to communicate the following to all other nations on it's stance regarding recent events involving war between the nation of Azadistan, a protectorate of the Aestorian Commonwealth, and the Angel's Alliance organization.

We acknowledge that the original cause of conflicts was related to hackers operating within Azadistan committing illegal actions towards the state of Radiata, in connection with Radiata's restrictions against Islamic practices. The nation of Thermodolia in response condemned Azadistan as a state sponsor of terrorism, regarding Azadistan's statements defending the hackers (Azadistan's leader stating that "They don't intend to create terror, but to liberate the Muslims.") as well as it's lack of apparent effort to find the perpetrators. It then placed heavy economic and military sanctions on Azadistan, followed by condemnations and sanctions from other nations such as Kyneland and Atmerki.

We acknowledge that the leader of Azadistan denied that Azadistan was a terrorist state, and explaining that Azadistan had self-admittedly 'lenient' policies regarding terrorists is because they simply were forced to follow orders or were coerced into performing such actions, also arguing that harsher punishments may lead to instability in the 'Underworld'. After a series of communications between Azadistan and Kyneland, the latter concluded by stating that "Azadistan is doing all it can to ensure its criminals - terrorists included - can maintain their illegal operations and remain an organised force." and then proceeded to announce several measures in response to Azadistan:

• The ending of diplomatic relations with the nation of Azadistan.
• The supporting of sanctions directed towards the nation of Azadistan.
• Announcing that Azadistani nationals wishing to emigrate to Kyneland would be accepted as refugees.
• Announcing that arrested Azadistani terrorists would be executed by firing squad if found guilty for crimes committed.

We acknowledge that these communications were followed up by further condemnations against Azadistan, and then by a military response. Seemingly without provocation, multiple Atmerkian warships fired missiles towards an Azadistani naval base. Azadistan retaliated by striking Atmerkian naval bases with submarines. Kyneland issued a statement condemning and sanctioning Atmerki. Azadistan, seemingly unwilling to fight Atmerki offered to end the war status quo ante bellum. This offer was rebuked by the President of Atmerki, saying that there would be no end to hostilities until the 'Azadistani Mafia' had been destroyed entirely.

We acknowledge that after a extremely complicated war between Azadistan and several nations, the nation of Azadistan was absorbed into the Aestorian Commonwealth. Atmerki chose to continue the war against the Aestorian Commonwealth, not acknowledging the status of the now defunct nation of Azadistan. A 'flurry' of diplomatic condemnations was once-again sent towards most sides of the conflict, Kyneland alone condemning both Atmerki and the Aestorian Commonwealth.

Mecklenburg-Cispomerania thus states the following as their official response to these events:

Mecklenburg-Cispomerania expresses disapproval at the Aestorian Commonwealth's sudden and arbitrary move to offer Azadistan subjugation for no apparent reason, being a foreign power with no relationship towards Azadistan. Mecklenburg-Cispomerania feels that this action is simply a classic example of imperialism towards a fellow Islamic nation by a larger, monolithic nation which may not administer Azadistan in a way best servicing it's people. Thus, Mecklenburg-Cispomerania condemns the Aestorian Commonwealth.

Queen Bilqis, Minister of Defence as well as Ayatollah A.Ali, Foreign Minister have said that they are involved in anti-terror operations, that they did not sponsor the hacking and that the hacking was not terrorism.
they said they do not know of other nations getting this treatment and so say it is "subconcious racism".
They say Radiata is opressing people not them so Radiata is more terroristic.

The organization and deployment of a force that could maintain a base for a sustained period would take some time. That was not the case, however, for the 93rd airborne division. At any given time there were always a multitude of units prepared for rapid deployment, with these units being rotated out over time. It was the 93rd who’s time in the cycle coincided with the Aestorian request. The unit was maintained as to be ready to deploy for a week in the field with minimal logistical support. With Aesitorian logistical support, however, the 93rd would be able to operate indefinitely. Not that it would need to, with its deployment being a short term show of commitment. Within the week (or the next few, depending on how the situation developed) it was expected that a more sustainable and significant force would be en route to the country. Even now, preparations were under way.

For that matter you also can't (legally) go about transferring funds between nations, as that's a treaty, and it needs authorization under section 201 (vii)].

Colonel John Brogdon, commanding officer of the 3rd airborne battalion, sat aboard the C-10 Galaxy cargo plane that was carrying elements of his unit towards Azadistan. He thought long and hard about the mission ahead. The plane was surrounded by many more like it, loaded down with the other units of the 73rd airborne division. The planes had made a few stops in friendly territory, to refuel and supply, as well as pick up and exchange their escorts. Planes were loaded with the men and the supplies necessary to carry out and sustain the operation at hand, with that operation being the establishment and maintenance of a temporary military outpost, until the army established a “permanent” base. Brogdon’s unit, upon arrival, was tasked with the fabrication of the temporary structures, in coordination with the engineering attachments that had been added to the 3rd.

The operation was expected to be easy, as long as the parties that had Ausitoria on edge refrained from starting a serious war. If they did, the 73rd would do what it could. Fight the good fight, hold its ground as long as possible. It might hold out, it might not. Heavy weapons and heavyvehicles were at a premium, with only a handful of Sorcha IFVs being deployed, a few Tarnantulas AA vehicles, and the vehicles necessary for logistical support. Not the best makeup for a unit expected to wage a war, but it was fine for a short term staging operation.

As the Rhinoceran contingent approached Azadistani airspace, the proper checks were conducted to ensure that everything was in order, including checking in with Azadistani and Aestorian authorities. Within the hour, Rhinoceran boots would be on the ground in Azadistan.
