Peace is a precious commodity, held together by an organization known as the Cobaltian Union……….until that peace was shattered. In a world known as Anastasia, the world lived in a perpetual state of warfare. The peoples of the world found themselves falling to each other’s sword, “man has dominated man to his injury” as the old Elven proverb went. And truly, as the technology of the world advanced, so did the creativity of the men of the world as to how they would bring their fellow compatriots to their downfall. The went from stones, to bows, to swords, to guns. From rafts, to boats, to gallys, to galleons, to Destroyers. However that changed in the year 984 C.E.(Equivalent to 1918 technology wise) 6 nations came together to declare themselves arbiters of peace, wishing to put an end to the blood spilt. The nations were Atrilian, Canafa, Gama, Shadow Guardia,Tai, and Alaroma. To their credit, it was good for a time. Many of the nations of the world began to join the Union, and peace began to reign. It was ecstasy as some put it. However, it was not to last.
The Cobaltian Union was founded as an arbiter of sorts, an Super National figure to help solve disputes, and keep the peace. However, what it meant to “Keep the Peace” grew more vague over time. It went from mediating disputes, to it’s credit it was good at, to using economic leverage to keep nations in line. For example, using the power of the Union, which grew increasingly centralized in the Atrilian District, to announce unilateral sanctions on a certain nation. It only escalated from there, to the point of the Union determining economic policies for certain nations. It used this as a handicap for some nations, so it could help others. In other cases, it forced people to buy products from one nation or another when it could have been gotten cheaper elsewhere.
Then came the sourcing of natural resources for the Centralized Government to “advance the cause of peace” without compensating who they took the resources from at times, and at times taking over very valuable areas. This was all to found the “Peace Corps”, troops who worked on behalf of the increasingly Centralized Government and “protected the peace.” Now interestingly, this leads us back to the Union of Alaroma. When considering this nation in particular, it values autonomy highly. It also was a founding member, so it pushed very hard against these new reforms. The Alaromans were not pleased when troops from the Peace Corps came into their nation. It started off with immense resistance to the deployment of these troops at a Political level, Alaroma pointing out its history as a firm supporter of the Cobaltian Mission, and the cause of peace. However these groups were being sent everywhere so they were paid no heed. Granted, the move was unpopular in many nations other than Alaroma, but what follows distinguishes Alaroma
This takes us to the city of Hope. Hope is the old Political Capital of Alaroma, and the Religious/Cultural Capital of the nation. Filled with Temples to the Alaroman Diety Cthulhu, it’s considered a sacred city to the Alaromans. The deployment of foreigners was bad enough, but the fact they were non believers occupying holy ground? This caused a wave or protests in the city, and across Alaroma against the Peace Corps troops. However, one protests went awry when Black Clad protesters clashed with Peace Corps troops in the city of Tel Bunni, who ended up killing 27 rioters, and wounding 63 others. To be fair in multiple regards, the rioters were armed with deadly weapons, and the protest had escalated. However, this was no excuse for many. It went awry when 5,000 Religious Extremists, called the “Sons of Longhorne”, in Hope took up arms, and “forcefully removed” the 300 troops stationed in Hope. Outside the city, what is to be called “the May 18th incident” happened, the extremists killing all male troopers and personnel from the unit, amounting to 234 dead. The remaining 66 female survivors were forcefully converted to the Extremist Sect, before vanishing. The international community was alarmed, and this prompted the Queen to finally have the government to act. It’s response? The immediate disarmament of all Peace Corp troops, and their immediate returning to their homelands. This caused outrage from Atrilian District, to which the Queen essentially told “shut up.” Going further, she emphasized the competence of Alaroman armed forces, and Police Forces. She also launched a search for the captive women from the Hope Detachment, declaring “In Alaroma, we respect rule of law. This kidnapping will not go unpunished, the murder will not go unpunished, and the city of Hope will be redeemed.”
It took a year, but after negotiations, raids, and other actions by the Alaroman Police forces, the leaders of the Extremists were caught, and the women from the unit set free. The capture of the assailants known, the head of the Cobaltian Unitary Council called for “The Immediate hand over of the perpetrators of all involved in the horrid massacre of Peace Corp troops by Alaroman authorities.” Alaroma again refused, the Queen stating once again “This is outrageous! These Alaroman citizins will be tried to the fullest extent of the law in Alaroma, where their heinous crimes took place.” This however did not please the council. The new Queen, who was showing to be far more belligerent that her father had been in regards to Council requests, was required to attend a meeting of the Council. At this council, new laws were to be put down to make sure Alaroma was back in line. It also hoped that if the Council could shut down the belligerence of a founding nation, any future belgierence would be found in the wrong. This included the redeployment of Peace Corp troops, deployment of Political Officers in all nations, and the forbiddance of any leaving of the Cobaltian Union, which has been floated around in Alaroman Circles, and is growing in popularity.
The Queen on the other hand was appearing before the council to demand an end to the transgressions against their national sovereignty. This included no more peace corps, no more trying to control the Alaroman economy, and no demanding Alaromans be tried in someplace other than Alaroma.
In the nation of Gama, [insert city name] was in riot after the peace corps moved in. The nation once supported the movement to create such a thing, but as the resources were taken, some of those in the government began to go against them. As the nation battled itself within parliament, it seemed the nation was about to split and a bloody civil war might occur. The king at the time supported those going against the reforms, and even tried to rally the nation. But one night, a heart attack silenced the king, leaving his heir to take the throne. After a year with him in support of the reforms, he asked the peace corps to handle the rioters in a peaceful manor. When the Alaroman queen was brought to the council meeting, the king sent his brother to have her called for her nation to be under proper supervision. As for those that were the cause of the attacks, he called for their punishment to be done in the main government rather than the local government seeing as it was those who were from outside Alaroma that were harmed.
In Oakneth, protest towards the king have begun to slowly rise, calling for his brother to take the throne rather than him. He was against the reforms but was abroad in the central government on behalf of his brother, not knowing of what was going on. Parliament was mostly comprised of those that supported the reforms, keeping the brother in the dark about these protests. Once the brother heard of what happened in Alaroma, he gave public support for her in his address to the council and ignored what his brother had asked of him. Once he returned home, the nation was at a boiling point once again, and about to erupt into a civil war. Just as many had feared with the peace Corp being called to the aid of the current king and his parliament to end the small rebel forces that have begun to rise. The nation was about to break.
Canafa, a Socialist Republic, reacted to the “May 18th” incident much the same way as the Central Government had, demanding the perpetrators be tried in an international court. It supported the implementation of the no secession and peacekeeper laws for numerous reasons; for one, the nation had been in internal conflict going back decades between the two primary peoples of the nation, the Perisi and the Canafians. The Perisi longed for independence, both from the central government and from Canafa itself, and a New Perisibaian-backed coup was recently launched against the Canafian government, leading to Perisibaian territories losing much of the power they once held. A second reason is that the Canafians generally spent alot less on their own national military than the average nation, though a decent portion of the national budget goes towards the support of other Cobaltian militaries. The third, and most important to the Canafians, is the simple fact that the Canafian economy is near entirely dependent on their neighbors, mostly the nation of Greater Redosia, as the nation has little to no manufacturing sector of its own. The Republic is a peaceful one, and as such has much to lose by being confronted on both sides by either faction; however, the current government in power refuses to abandon the organization they helped to found.
In the end, nations found themselves agreeing with the Alaromans, torn, or fully rejecting the notion of succession or reform. Soon there is to be another meeting withing the Atrilan District, and there all sides are determined to come away the successor. Granted, one can only see that it won't take long for the leaders of Cobaltia to take their descisions full of heart. The Die is Cast, and it's time to see where it all lands in the end.
Welcome to all, outsiders and insiders, as we find ourselves at the behest of a great war. A war for the soul of Cobaltia, and Anastasia. The year is now 1044 CE in the world, and the nations of the world are heading on a collision course. My name is Alaroma, or as some of my more intimate friends know me, Apror. While this Civil War might indicate otherwise, I'd like to point a disclaimer that I love this Region. Truly with a passion, and I hope we all have a good time in this RP. That being said, I will be moderating this RP with the help of a few others. So, let's get to the rules shall we?
