NATION DIVIDED OVER EAST APIKAI,

Riot police at 10:39AM
At 10:32 AM today, Mass protests about the situation of the military coup d'état in East Apikai turned violent, as protesters clashed with riot police. In the middle of the situation, at 10:38, Molotov cocktails were thrown at the riot police, and eventually the military were sent in to deal with the riot. Multiple historians have drawn parallels to historical events.
The riots prompted many discussions about which side Madossa should go with, either with the emergency government, or the former president. Currently, the government has not taken a stand on the issue, with the only statement released that was related to the East Apikai was the request that foreign ships did not cross into Madossa's territorial waters.
There have even been rumors that a civil war may break out soon, with relations between the people, the government, and the military have been deteriorating. The tensions have been worsening for a decade, but East Apikai has made the situation critical.

General Cartwell paced around the office, as he tended to do in one on one conversations such as these. "Sir, the world's navies continue to draw closer to our shores. Meanwhile, the investigation into the bombing has stalled. I suggest a larger deployment force, both on the homefront and near our waters."

Blume shook his head. "At home, I'll consider. But deploying even more ships would only inflame the situation more. We're trying to prevent a war here."

Cartwell stopped his pacing. "In my opinion, we need to face the reality that war might be inevitable at this point. Even the Madossans are being pressured into a response. Unless you want to give up on the new constitution entirely--and we know that's not an option--we need to set up to defend against an invasion."

"Not necessarily," Blume said, pulling a folder from under his desk. "I have a plan. It's a bit of a last ditch effort, but it'll look good. I want a summit set up as soon as possible, as publicly as possible."

Cartwell tilted his head and raised an eyebrow. "A summit on what, sir? If you intend to negotiate, what do you plan to bring to the table?"

Blume smiled. "If it's influence they want, then surely, they can't refuse the chance to help draft the new constitution."

Freilibre MEPs urge other EU members to halt further relations with East Apikai until new constitution

Brussels (FBE)— Early this morning, Freilibran MEPs and the government have announced that it will not be attending the summit in East Apikai to construct a new
constitution. This comes after weeks of extraordinary foreign involvement in the affairs of the Free Republic. While other MEPs and political commentators are baffled,
it hasn't been much of a surprise as Freilibre's new neutral stance in geopolitics comes into fruition this year.

In a statement during the emergency EU summit in Brussels, several Freilibran MEPs who claimed to be representing the Queen and the government, stated that "While East
Apikai is, has, and will always be an ally to Freilibre and the rest of the world, we must stay impartial and allow others to represent the free world in this summit. This is not
a diplomatic slap, nor is it a denouncement, we must be adamant that after concerns of foreign involvement, Freilibre is not fit to attend any summit of this magnitude, nor is
it in the economic interests of our industries."

While the government had validated their statement, critics refuted it, and numerous reporters of several media outlets have
pointed that it contradicts statements in the past; that Freilibre has large economic relations with East Apikai.

The public is divided among the news of a possible new display of Freilibran neutrality in international politics. In social media this morning, Queen Margret IXX tweeted her
opinion that "It was a concern for both me and High Chancellor Sohrab that Freilibre would be involved in away way with a military junta in a supposed 'Free Republic' that
will be rewriting its constitution to suit the nefarious interests of totalitarian foreign nations and pressure groups" she continued on, "This military coup could have been
avoided if their government simply held a tribunal of some sort, for an impeachment of the president-- yet this forceful removal of power continued, and now massive
foreign involvement only makes their situation more suspicious." The Royal Crown and the family have since denied any further comment on the Queen's statements.

Meanwhile, Vraxuis Corporation's allegations continue as a large shipment from Freilibre landed in East Apikai last night, and have only contradicted the government's statements
further. Vraxuis has since reported that it has interests in East Apikai, but further information have been revoked from public access.

middle east in some other foreign country? Right..

Well yeah, if a European nation like Freilibre, France, Germany, or whatever intervenes in another free country's affairs, it sorta doesn't bode well with
relations with- y'know, other free countries.

I mean can you blame them for worrying about other nations involved? Large empires with secretive political interests, rivals that Freilibre can't afford right now.
I think this is the most sane solution for a government such as ours to follow. Neutrality worked for the swiss, hey, it might work for other countries as well

When the Empire of Europa was created by the Four Powers Union in 1821 which united the French Empire, Russian Empire, Austrian Empire, and Kingdom of Prussia, the status of Switzerland had been of great contemplation. The four original states along with their respective satellites in Europe were each to form as Royal State’s with their own Parliament and sovereign to form a Council of Noble’s thus led by a ruling Imperial government and a rotating position of Emperor of Europa. Thus Switzerland became the Imperial State where the central government would be housed and the Imperial monarch would take up residence, Geneva effectively became a government city, inhabited by members of the European Imperial government and by a significant portion of the officers of the Imperial Unified Forces, the unified military separate from each Royal State’s own State Forces. Entire portions of the city were devoted solely to housing and servicing one ministry or another; government housing blocks and ministerial buildings effectively dominated the city broken only by the occasional corporate headquarters, foreign embassy, and hotel. Still the city was the beating heart of an empire which spanned three continents and with territories across the globe and even commercial stakes on the Moon for Helium-3 mining, as such news reached the capital fast when it was necessary for the Imperial government, not one of the individual Royal State’s, to act.

Many call Europa tyrannical based on several factors which the European’s fiercely disputed. The first being that religion was effectively illegal within the territories of the Empire by a constitutional statute, with being a member of a faith in the overwhelming secularized society cited as a crime against the ideal’s of Europa worthy of the consequence of deportation or possibly execution if one is a member of a formal religious organization directly defying European laws as a European citizen. In rebuttal, European citizens both ordinary and in government office, within the Royal State’s on Europe itself and the Imperial Dominion’s which administrate the European holdings on Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, cite religion as one of the number one causes of conflict throughout human history and, as Europa is also a nation dedicated to scientific advancement, as one of the major dead-weights holding back logic and reason. Another accusation comes from the ban on political parties and organizations which has been Imperial Law since 1949, reasoning that the common citizenry has no voice in government, to be countered by the statement that this is an indiscriminate targeting of all political ideologies to solve inefficiency in the Imperial government and prevent the bogging down of the Imperial Parliament due to political issues. The final accusation stems from the fact that besides being the sole nation on the European continent, Europa’s control of the entire Middle East save for Iran, almost all of Africa save South Africa and Ethiopia, and Indochina and numerous Pacific territories through Imperial Dominion’s is an imperialist blight. However, the European Central Government maintains that the Imperial Dominion’s are managed as a way of bringing colonial territories up to European standards of infrastructure, administration, education, and health for eventual admittance into the Empire as a Royal State. This includes the European Constitutional laws requiring a mandatory education at state-funded schools and university attendance immediately upon graduation, the programs to develop a super highway and high speed rail service connecting North Africa with Central Africa by crossing the Sahara Desert and also establishing massive wind and solar power plots across the Sahara.

Back to the matter at hand, the topic of discussion at present for the Global Command Staff of the European Imperial Military is that of the situation developing in the Free Republic of Apikai following the military coup there with intent to restore a functioning democracy. The some sixty officers of varying ranks and of all the branches of the service were observing latest news reports on holofeed in the center of the conference room while they milled about discussing strategy if the situation turned volatile. The Imperial Military Intelligence Service or Aries as it was commonly referred to, had been compiling reports on the foreign military activity in regards to Apikai and the recent bombing of a civilian protest in the said nation. There was significant evidence, according to HUMINT sources on the ground, that a foreign asset had been involved in the bombing and this was causing great concern for the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Foreign Affairs given the threat a rogue state operator destabilizing a fragile area of the world ever further posed to the Empire’s own interests both foreign and domestic. Perhaps it was time for Europa to step in to protect this newly rebuilt democracy and also investigate a possible threat to global stability by foreign operatives.

Admiral John Arthur Dalton, commander of the 8th Fleet currently stationed out of Kuwait, was speaking with Grand Admiral Hugo Aristade Demangé, the Duke of Normandie and the Chief of the Imperial Navy Staff regarding the concerning amount of foreign naval activity around Apikai presently. “Yes I see the concern sir, without outside assistance, the interim military government in Apikai would be hard pressed to break a possible embargo blockade by several nations at once let alone even one nation given the chaos currently awash in the country.” Demangé nodded, exactly as he expected. They’d all read the latest reports from Aries and by all accounts the government in Apikai was still taking stock of their available forces, who was reliable and what assets remained at their command cutting their effective order of battle by at least half if not more. “Indeed Admiral Dalton, however, if say a potential ally were to reinforce Apikai and ward off any attempt at embargo blockade, that would tip the scales no? By say, sending a fleet to get the message across that any attempt at incursion on the sovereignty of a neutral democracy will be met with a military response by the international community.” Dalton smirked as he got the point Demangé was hinting towards.

“His Majesty has given the Foreign Office the green light to offer protection to Apikai until such a time civil order has been restored and their defense forces reorganized rather than chaotic then? 8th Fleet is close enough to make a long-term deployment sortie to Apikai in full force and with or MANTIS guns now installed on the Arabian side of the Persian Gulf the Iranian’s can’t challenge us for control of the Gulf even if 8th Fleet leaves its post. I take it then that I will not be the only asset we are offering to protect them with.” Demangé shook his head and let out a hearty chuckle as he handed Dalton a data pad with a file displayed called ‘Operation Tiger Dawn’ and an order of battle for assets to be transferred to Apikai once the European government arranged an agreement of alliance and a guarantee of independence for the country. “Hmm, aside from 8th Fleet, submarine assets from 23rd Fleet based out of Ceylon have also been allocated for active sortie in the potential zone of operations, and six airborne battalion’s and an armored brigade in Indochina to draw on as well. Impressive, should be enough to ward off any threat posed by a foreign power, and with its current situation can Apikai afford to turn us away as a potential ally when we’ve prepared such a significant force count to come to their defense should it be needed. But my question is what do we get from this besides wielding our diplomatic and military influence?”

Demangé did not hesitate to respond, he knew the reason and had found it sound enough to not refuse His Majesty’s request when organizing Tiger Dawn. “We’re hoping for strategic basing rights to Apikai’s ports as an equal partner and ally. That’s all, and in exchange they would of course become a major trade partner to Europa which would be extremely profitable to their economy and also we would give them access to our Helium-3 research and possibly a test pile for energy production trials.” Helium-3 was a rare but powerful resource on Earth but extremely plentiful on the Moon, hence why Europa stared mining it on the Moon back in 1997. Helium-3 produced massive amounts of energy even in small quantities, a twenty-five ton chunk of it could power Europe for half a century, and presently the Empire also utilized Helium-3 for its experimental weapons development programs such as the development of shielding technology and energy weapons. “European investors would help finance a revival of Apikai’s civilian and military infrastructure and we would assist them in upgrading their armed forces.”

Dalton stowed the data pad inside his jacket and saluted the Grand Admiral. “Well then I’ll get on the first flight to Kuwait and be off when ordered.”

By the authority of His Majesty, the Empire of Europa does also declare its guarantee of independence to the Free Republic of Apikai and its intent and duty to respond be it diplomatically or militarily should that independence be threatened. Firstly no European delegation will attend the proposed summit in Apikai, for the simple reason that we wish to take it a step further. As of one hour ago, His Imperial Majesty’s government signed into action, with the consent of all fifteen Royal State’s of the Empire and the accompanying signatures of their respective sovereign’s and Royal Chancellor’s, a declaration that the Empire of Europa formally recognizes the legitimacy of the interim government in Apikai and the legality with which the armed forces enacted their coup there to restore a functioning democracy as per Apikai’s constitution. Accompanying this is a formal pledge that Europa will guarantee the independence of the Free Republic of Apikai against any foreign body attempting to violate said, and should Apikai’s independence be threatened by military force, Europa will respond in kind. We are prepared to impose a total economic embargo on any nation attempting to act militarily against Apikai. That is all I have at present, Good day to you ladies and gentlemen.” The Baron stepped down from the podium as the General Assembly chamber erupted in hurried conversations and outbursts of shock. Was Europa truly willing to go to such lengths to preserve a potential ally? A total economic embargo by Europa, an extremely resource wealthy nation, was a serious thing and so was military action. Time would tell just how serious the Empire was...

STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED

Just today, at 9:24, CET, the government declared a state of emergency due to the countless riots all around Madossa. Some were around issues that had been around for decades, such as joining the unified Europa to the north. Others, however, had only been around for a week, such as East Apikai.
The government stated the declaration wasn't a hasty decision, but the status of the state is about to boil over. The government has been looking frantically for another nation to support them, but at the moment, It seems unlikely.

"Sir, a message for you," exclaimed one of the bridge officers, handing Admiral Van Der Luyden a paper with Blume's message written on it

"Alright. From who?" Asked the admiral

The bridge officer paused for a moment, and with a slightly concerned look, stated, "it's from Blume, Sir."

The Admiral quickly snatched the letter and began reading it.

"W-w-what are your orders, sir?" The bridge officer asked nervously

"Don't worry about it. I will personally write him a response. I believe I know what we can offer Apikai," stated the admiral.

Herman Von-Kitchener sat at his desk reading the Apikaian transmission, which Heinrich Ferdinand himself bringing him it. After reading it, Kitchener nodded and said "Having foreign powers dictating the constitution of another nation? This won't end well," he paused, "we can play their game. Send a transmission to them saying we accept, and I would like you to represent us in this.". "Are you sure, Sir?" Heinrich asked, "This sounds dangerous. Especially with me involved." Kitchener looked up and said "The Apikaians know just as well as us that war will erupt if the situation is not resolved. I will have a team of guardsmen accompany you." "I understand, Sir. I will see to it." Heinrich turned around and left the room. Kitchener then grabbed his and dialed a number.

"Admiral Farson," Mitchell answered, "What can I do for you, Sir" "The East Apikaian site has changed. Again," Kitchener replied, "their new government has invited us to a multinational assembly. We plan to attend. You may finish your plans, but then hold. I will give the signal myself to begin. Understood?" "Perfectly, Sir," The admiral said. "Very good. I am counting on you, admiral." Arthur Salvator had been an agent of the Thermodolian Secret Service for 15 years now. At the beginning he was just a lowly agent, now he headed all TSS operations in Apikai, both east and west.

Salvator looked out the window of his office and sighed the last few weeks in East Apikai had been nuts. Bombings, coups, and foreign governments all sending fleets he definitely had his work cut out for him but he could handle it.

His moment of introspection was over as two agents burst in the door.

“Sir we have a problem.”

“We always have problems, that’s part of our job.” Arthur dryly replied

The agent acknowledged this and continued, “As you are well aware the bombing that happened a few weeks ago was orchestrated by a foreign power however we have some reason to believe that it was Crysuko who was behind it.”

“Are you 90% sure it’s Crysuko?”

“No, it’s more like 66% at the moment.”

“I want this proven or disproven immediately. I’m putting all non essential agents on this case at once. Come back to me when you have 90% or more.”

The agents both nodded and walked out of the room. Salvator cursed under his breath, “Please don’t let this be true” he thought to himself.

Sunshine, East Apikai

Alex Sæn stood in the middle of the crowd half listening to the speakers and half observing everyone. For the past few weeks he had been undercover in this movement even before his own nation ever officially got involved. If there was one thing the TSS did is was planting moles, undercover agents, turning agents, and having a slew of double agents on its payroll.

Sæn had been an agent of the TSS for five years now recruited directly from the military after his four year service was up. Now at the age of 27 he was working for the TSS in East Apikai where he had been stationed for the past year.

His train of thought was interrupted when he noticed a suspicious person dressed in all black and wearing a backpack out of the corner of his eye, the person was only a few meters from him no more than 5. He had been briefed on the possibility of Crysukon involvement in the recent attacks and too be on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary. He began to stealthily move toward the suspicious person with his hand on his gun in case things went south.

There where two ways that this would go down, either Sæn was going to capture the suspicious person or he was going to kill them. Since there was no backup his mind was already made up, if the person attempted to flee they would be dead. Sæn hoped that he could capture the suspect himself but that would be hard to attempt in this crowd.

Alex was just 1.5 meters from the suspicious person when said person spotted him. In a quick moment his hand brought up his silenced 9mm FN FNP semi-auto pistol and fired off three rounds at the unknown person. Sæn raced towards the person hoping to grab that backpack before anyone else could, when he got to the person it looked like the dark clad individual was dead. Alex didn’t stick around for long and as soon as he got the backpack he ran off to the nearest safe house, 2 kilometers away. This place was going to be nuts in a few.

Outside the Crysukon Embassy
Viribus, East Apikai

Luis and his partner, Elsa, sat inside the van parked across the street from the Crysukon Embassy. From the outside the van looked no different than the local power company while on the inside the van it was chocked full of surveillance gear and all sorts of high tech gadgets.

Raymond “Dogbait” Elâson was the final member of the team and he played the job of meter reader, first going to all the other buildings in he area before going to the embassy so as not to arouse suspicion. He was to plant new listening devices and add some more. Unfortunately do to the haste that was needed they couldn’t get inside of the Embassy so outside devices would have to do.

From within the van Luis and Elsa both grew anxious. Against his superiors orders Dogbait had installed a bomb in his bag that at a moments notice would explode killing him and destroying all of the devices in case things went south. Both of them in the van waited for an explosion to go off. They where both so focused that they didn’t hear Raymond get into the car until he slammed the door shut.

“Goddamnit you asshole you had us fucking worried that you where going to blow yourself up.” Luis said in an exasperated tone.

“Relax. The devices are planted and tuned. If any conversation takes place outside or near any of the windows or doors we will know about it.” Dogbait said proudly

“Good. Now let’s get out of here. This place gives me the creeps.” Elsa said as she put the van in drive.

Thomas just received a direct message from his father, apparently the East Apikai have sent out an official notice to the International Community inviting them to a sort of Summit so that the Nations that have expressed their discontent with happenings within the nation can assist in drafting a new constitution for them. He was given the task of leading the Shazite delegation in these talks and to ensure that the emergency government would give up its power and instill a fair Constitution to all of the members of their populist. Thomas was quickly making his way through the ship to the hanger level of The Sovereign-class CVN. He slowly made his way past the security checkpoints, past the Marine Barracks on board, and walk up the ramp into the hanger deck of the ship.
He was swiftly walking through the hanger until he saw them in the distance. The Emperor's Fist, his men, the 6th Company, 1st Division of the Marine Corps. These men were hand picked by Thomas himself when he took over the Six One two years ago. They saluted him as he walked by them and into the ladder well that was up to the bridge of the carrier. It was time for the admiral to know of his presence. As Thomas walked onto the bridge, the CO of the ship acknowledged his presence as he walked across the bridge to the Communications Station.

"Send a message to the lead ship," he ordered the radioman. "Tell them I want to speak directly to the Admiral of the Fleet, but DON'T tell him who wants to talk to him."

The radioman nodded and then moved his headset up onto his head, "ISS Heridad, this is the ISS Therngras, requesting permission for high profile official on here to speak with the Admiral."

"Aknowledged," came the reply from the other vessel. "Admiral is on."

"Yes?" replied the Admiral. "Who wishes to speak to me so urgently?"

Thomas smiled, he could hear the content in the voice of the Admiral as no one normally called the Capital Ship to talk to the Admiral unless there was a major emergency.
"That's no way to speak to your Crowned Prince," Thomas replied. You could hear a pin drop from the silence that occurred within the bridge of the Therngras.

"Your Highness, I didn't know that you were on a ship in the fleet," the Admiral replied. "If I would have known," he continued, "I would have put together a dinner in your honor on the Heridad."

"Stow it, Admiral," Thomas snapped. "I know you have heard about the call for a Summit to assist with the drafting of the Constitution. I have been ordered by my father to attend the Summit on behalf of the Empire. I already have a V-24 Swift Fox ready with a small contingent of my men ready for launch." He smiled, once again, before continuing, "I have the radioman here sending an Official Communique using the Digital Imperial Letterhead. You better authorize the launch of the aircraft or else you won't be an Admiral for much longer."

"Yes, Sir," the Admiral replied, his voice visibly shaken by Thomas' stern demeanor. Thomas then cut off the transmission and turned around, heading back out the bridge.

I have been ordered by my father, the Supreme Emperor, to attend on behalf of the Empire. I am currently posted to one of the ships of the Imperial Fleet just outside of your territorial waters and am requesting entry permission for myself, 7 Marines from my Company and one V-24 Swift Fox VTOL. My Marines will be armed with only M23-9CM Pistols, to be used mainly for defensive purposes. I await your reply.

All the talk of the war effort and secret plans would be taking place over encrypted, darknet channels, nowhere near any embassies. Although they did have the server equipment needed to bounce encrypted comms around, the central command did not deem it necessary at the time, and to keep the latency low they decided to go direct.

Meanwhile, in East Apikai

Kyeeto and Staris were downtown, at the drop point. They had been told an individual with the package would meet them, so the escrow transfer could be confirmed and the package handed over. A slight acrid smell hung in the air due to the nearby industry, but both kept their composure, wearing feature concealing trenchcoats and balaclavas. As the warm air swirled around them, another, equally shady figure approached carrying a backpack flanked by two others. "you have it?" asked staris. The man nodded, opening the pack to show them the large white grains. Staris bent down to study it, taking a grain out to crush into a testing kit.

The indicator fluid turned a pleasing green, and staris nodded. "your turn now, confirm the escrow" the smuggler replied. Kyeeto pulled out a tablet, entering an access code to begin the transfer. a short while later, she'd gotten a message to confirm it. "it's done" she said briefly. One of the muscles that came with the smuggler picked a phone out of his pocket, making a call. "has it come through?....good. thanks" he hung up. "we've got the money, boss". The smuggler handed the back to Staris. "pleasure doing business" he said before turning away.

It was a short walk back to their car, but the entire time Staris had a gleeful grin on his face. "I know exactly what we can do with this, there's enough here to make a good sized bomb, there's a police station in the inner city which sees a lot of traffic nowadays. We wait until the evening for the civilians to clear out, but the night shift will be rotating in. If you have the car around the corner, I can hurl it through the front door then book it." They got back, taking great care to ensure that they weren't followed. Staris took his coat off, putting on a filter mask and apron "let's get creative!" he laughed.

Thomas swiftly made his way back down the ladder to the flight deck. As he walked along the ship, he cared not about the aircraft that continued to take off for their patrols around the fleet as his objective right now was to get to the Three V-24 Swift Fox's that were lined up along the side of the ship to the stern of the Command Mast. There, his men were waiting for him, standing around the VTOL's in their full weapons gear, waiting for him. He approached them and motioned to the VTOL's and they started to load in. Two of the VTOL's were loaded up with the full amount of Marines on them, while the last one only had Thomas and the 7 Marines that he notified them about in his message.

"Radio's On," he stated to his men over the radio. "Our orders are to head in, the Echo 2 and 3, you are to hit the deck, fly low and insert into a rural area and await further orders. While I, aboard Echo 1, will head high to their capital for this conference. Echo 2 and 3 teams, you should have a full loadout for your insertion."

"Sir, Yes, Sir," they replied.

"Echo 1 Team, all we have are handguns, correct?" he inquired.

"Sir, Yes, Sir," the 7 marines on Echo 1 replied.

"Good, let's get this going."

He motioned to the pilot of Echo 1 and it lifted off the deck, the other two followed suit. Echo 2 and 3 rose high enough to just make it off of the deck of the CVN then when they were clear of the deck and a couple meters away, they dropped to as low as they could fly in without being seen. Echo 1 switched to a different flight path from the other two and heading up into the air roughly 250 foot, putting them clear in line to be seen by any radar system on the face of the planet. When each one of them fixated on their flight paths, they switched the rotors of their VTOL's to flight mode, rotating them to be in airplane mode. Thomas smiled as he looked out through the middle of the windshield of the VTOL. He thought of an old Shazbotian proverb, He who wishes for a swift victory shall learn the trade of stealth. So be it.

“Well, this puts the situation in a new light given the opportunity now presented to us eh Thompson?” Pieter Jan-Vokkers, Minister of the Imperial Office for Foreign Affairs, said to Sir Elias Thompson, Head of the Diplomatic Corps, with whom he was discussing the message they had received from Thermodolia, which had been rather surprising. The various analysts of both the Ministry of Defense and the Foreign Office had predicted that the other superpowers involved in the Apikai Crisis, regardless of position towards the new government, would oppose Europa’s entry into the affair due to a conflict over influence in Apikai. However, Thermodolia had received Europa’s entry and support of the new Apikaian government with open arms and an offer of cooperation which had been the outcome with only a 27% likelihood of occurrence. This presented a rather interesting opportunity to perhaps share influence in Apikai, particularly with the European plans to invest heavily in Apikai such as upgrading both their civilian infrastructure and their military industrial complex as well as upgrading their military. This would allow Europa to tie the loyalties of certain influential individual’s in Apikai to Europa and therefore when elections came, European efforts would be put towards covertly enriching said individual’s chance’s to succeed in the Apikai election guaranteeing European influence following the election.

At present, Pieter and Thompson were awaiting the arrival of General Wilhelm Hoenegn of the Armed Forces General’s Staff, for the military’s input on the matter. It did not take the man long to arrive and the discussion began immediately. Pieter opened the discussion with the most direct question he could ask. “General, would Europa be able to militarily force influence upon Apikai by expelling the foreign powers currently invested in the affair?” At this Hoenegn pressed a key on his holowatch to project the needed information for his audience. What was displayed were intelligence reports by Aries operatives in various foreign powers and stolen documents etc. which concerned foreign military statistics. “Your Excellency, the only powers we should be concerned about in this affair are the other superpowers, those being Thermodolia and Shazbotdom, however individually our Armed Forces dwarf either of them so the main question is the toss up of fighting them combined alongside the minor powers in the affair. It is possible and the Global Command Staff is already working on contingency plans for such an event, but preparations for minimum success ratio would take at least a year and desirable success ratio three years.” Pieter nodded, taking this information in. “So the military’s opinion is that we accept the offer of cooperation with Thermodolia and include them in our plans for Apikai? That way if the other superpower Shazbotdom objects to our actions in Apikai, we will be dealing solely with them and soundly defeat them correct?” General Hoenegn nodded and even gave a little tidbit regarding the possible conflict with Shazbotdom. “At present, Eighth Fleet is underway to Apikai and even its resources alone should be more than enough to deal with what our satellite reconnaissance shows to be the Shazbotdom forces within the area. The inclusion of the assets from 23rd Fleet at Ceylon and the six airborne battalions in Indochina along with the armored brigade there would make the matter not trivial but not strenuous for His Imperial Majesty’s Armed Forces.”

Pieter picked up his desk phone to call Baron von Aarnsdörff at his office at the United Nations, with the intent to have him reach out to Thermodolia’s ambassador to the United Nations and arrange a meeting between European and Thermodolian official’s. General Hoenegn then received an urgent message on his own phone from Global Command. It was a brief call but it made a vein on Hoenegn’s forehead standout immediately which signaled trouble to the other occupants of the room. When the call finished he turned to the Minister with a look of intense concern written across his features. “Our satellite’s have picked up three VTOL’s en route to Viribus, launched from a Shazbotdom carrier it would seem. However, close up imaging the carrier flight deck before they took off appears to show them being boarded by armed troops, far too many to be attending a conference. It may be possible they intend to seize the capital by force.” Pieter was extremely concerned by this, it was a serious escalation of the crisis and one which may lead to war. Of course, Europa had a minor consulate in Viribus so the Consular Officer could warn the Blume government about potential foreign troop insertion on their territory. Or perhaps they could reach out to the Thermodolian’s about the issue. “Have we any assets in place to possibly intercept?”

Hoenegn grimaced but nodded all the same. “Eighth Fleet’s aircraft could potentially intercept in time but it would be touchy with fuel and they may not have enough in the tanks to make a combat sortie and then return to the carriers. Or one of the cruise missile submarines in the detachment of 23rd Fleet en route to the crisis zone could bring down all three VTOL’s but there is the possibility that some legitimate foreign dignitaries are aboard the craft and it could cause a diplomatic incident. Additionally the Imperial Rocket Corps has an armed upper stage in position that could launch and detonate a minor yield EMP tipped Space-Launched Ballistic Missile midair and disable the craft. While all three would likely hit the ocean, its extremely likely all occupants would survive if indeed these are trained combat troops they will be able to survive the minor ocean crash.” Given Europa’s recent proclamation to vigorously defend Apikai’s independence both militarily and politically, in diplomatic theory all these actions would be justified, but in reality they would be an act of war. “Tell General Dornberger to have that upper stage launch the EMP. Bring down the craft without killing anyone.”

European Imperial Rocket Corps

Captain Pyotr Byelkov received his firing orders to no great surprise after hearing the chatter from the Aries communication channels over the ODINSEYE network. His only surprise was that he launching an EMP tipped missile as opposed to a nuclear tipped one, but he followed his orders. Naturally since no human could make the necessary calculations to accurately launch a ballistic missile from space, let alone a moving target, all European upper stage modules meant to operate as part of the Strategic Defense Corps were equipped with an onboard supercomputer to perform the calculations, all the pilot had to do was prep the missile and fire. Pyotr did just that as he cycled out a 50 kiloton tactical nuclear warhead for a Class B Electromagnetic Pulse warhead on his fifth launch tube and finished preparations to fire. Calculations complete and input into the V-23’s guidance system, Pyotr entered the launch code and fired.

The missile sped away down into the atmosphere and headed for Apikai, its state of the art heat shield preventing damage to either it or the warhead as it closed in on its target. The missile passed through the atmosphere and was fifty seconds from target over the waters near Apikai, the three VTOL’s en route to Viribus.

At an altitude of approximately 700 feet, less than two hundred feet above the VTOL’s over the water, the warhead detonated the EMP. The pulse expanded quickly but briefly to cover a diameter of one kilometer which did indeed affect the three VTOL’s quite easily. All three craft lost all power entirely from the pulse...

Unbeknownst to them, the Thermadoilan agent had fallen for a decoy of sorts. After the deal had taken place, the three smugglers had split up, each one of them carrying a weighted pack. On opening it, all that would be found is a few lead weights. A trick designed to fool law enforcement so the actual one carrying the contraband could get away unharmed.

Meanwhile, the fleet had assembled and was making way to the active zone, a few days out from it. They had already detected several other groups operating in the area which would no doubt make things difficult, but nobody in the chain of command was expecting it to be easy. With them, they could make coastal drop offs to the spies which would make the ongoing black operation considerably easier.

A message was sent to the new government of East Apikai by the Secretary of War from Cruxa. It wasn't a long one, or a complexly worded one. It was short, sweet, and to the point. And this is what it said:

Your coup and its repercussions are greatly disturbing to us. The former President of East Apikai was a just leader, and the transition of power was not bloodless. Stand down now and return the country to its rightful leader, or face immediate and swift military action on behalf of Cruxa and the world.

The ships cruised over the crystalline blue waters to Apikai, containing 5,200 soldiers in total. The group was headed by the three warships-- CNS Brutus and CNS Cerberus, destoyers, and CNS Abraxas, a carrier. 40 supply and transport ships followed closely. Rear Admiral Isaac Kidd surveyed the group from the bridge of his carrier with pride. They'd be taking the fight to Apikai.

I must also say that we are not exactly defending you simply because of your new military government, but for the fact that such a change with the amount of foreign involvement has brought an issue about security within our own sphere of influence. Not a few minutes later after Staris had changed into some non-chemical smelling clothing, they were on the way. "I've cased that station, it's not a particularly big one and will be quite busy. you could easily hide it behind a door, under some seats or suchlike. not difficult" she said as they entered the district. "and with a device of that size, it'll be a real mess" added Staris gleefully. They pulled up, the bomb hidden in an innocuous looking bag. They went in the front, their entrance delayed so to not appear to be together. Staris took a seat while Kyeeto went to speak to the duty officer. There were many others milling around, and his seat was in a corner. He set the back underneath it, fiddling with the detonator in his coat pocket. As kyeeto wasted time, he pushed it back where it wouldn't immediately be seen.

Eventually, the officer grew tired of Kyeeto's waffle and both were told to leave, which they did so hurriedly. Around the corner, Staris furtively took the detonator out, little more than a small battery, a short range RF transmitter and a few IC chips, he pressed his thumb down on it, activating a 30 second timer. Hastily, they got back in the car and set off back. Not intending to be around when it went off.
