Guns don't work much,so the only thing they can do is go full on BANZAI with the ceremonial katana(it's still a katana,so it's still very sharp) that's given during graduation from the academy and is mostly used for show off......

Oh cool,all police batons in Bengal have a taser at the upper end,but I suppose it's not gonna make much of a difference.Most of the police forces in the city where the portal appeared are gonna die,I'm sure of it.Unless a Inari goddess from the local Shinto shrine suddenly pops up and gives the demons a taste of hell.....

Correct. Solid matter, except for certain very specific materials that I have not yet revealed, passes through them as if they were not actually there. Because they are not made of matter. They are formed of massless particles. They're as tangible as ghosts. In fact, that would be a good way of thinking of them.

Electricity will work on some of them. That really depends on the particular entity. Some are affected normally by electricity, some are weak to it, some are resistant to it, some our outright immune, and a couple are actually healed by electricity. Same goes for any other "elemental damage" type.

A notable caveat: if someone had a magical weapon (not something that will likely be happening any time soon) which deals some kind of damage in addition to normal damage (e.g. a "flaming sword") that would work... but only in as far as the non-physical damage. And the other damage would be subjected to any resistances or weaknesses the entity has outside of its ethereal immunities. (Which I might say, are a lot of immunities. Physical damage... biological damage... acid damage... petrification... poison and disease...)

The good news is, when you do find what materials work, you don't need to have the weapon made entirely out of it. Simply plating a melee weapon in the substance is sufficient, or giving bullets a jacket or tip made of the material. The bad news is they still lack an actual anatomy. There are no weak points. Attacking the "head" and attacking the "little finger" have the exact same result. They can't be dismembered or decapitated (they'll just grow back anything they lose... this isn't true regeneration though, because their "health pool" isn't going back up when they do that; mind you there are ethereal entities which do have regeneration, but these are a minority), and fighting such a thing is truly unlike fighting anything else. Dealing damage depends not on precision, but on surface area.

Nah, in all seriousness, I thought of that first, but then there was a blackout scheduled at 7 o' clock, and it was about 6:30 when I was getting that post done, when I edit the continuation in, I'll try to organize stuff.

As for the creature that was introduced, it's some sort of zombie, but this condition is caused by another entity and the zombie itself cannot transmit its condition.

Well, there's loads and loads of and loads of kinds of undead in DNM, as I'm sure you could probably guess. In the end, it doesn't matter a lot as to what it is specifically, except in the matter of figuring out how to take it down, though it is worth thinking about how it functions. There's three main "classes" of undead:

Mindless -
Usually reanimated by some kind of magic (such as the actual zombie), mindless undead are completely and utterly incapable of any thoughts of their own. They require commands, and often guidance, from their creator. Depending on the magic, they may be able to receive commands from their creator at a distance, or possibly be issued long-standing commands, but in any case, any action that they take is not the result of any degree of sapience. Mindless undead do not have souls. They are little more than meat-puppets of their creator.

Mortal Possession -
Usually a case of being possessed by the same soul that inhabited that body when alive, though not always the case, these undead are a diverse and eclectic lot. Ranging everywhere from barely sapient (such as the case of ghouls) to fully sentient (such as the case of slain), these undead are just as varied as the living. There are any number of reasons a mortal might become this form of undead; in some cases it is caused by insanity (ghouls), magical disease (plague undead), or even just sheer willpower (slain). In some cases, a mortal soul other than that of the original one inhabiting the body may be possessing it; in those cases there is some degree of overlap with the one below. Many times, killing does not put down these forms of undead for good, as the reason they did not pass on has not changed with the destruction of the body, and hence that will only result in having to deal with an angry shinirei konpaku.

Oftentimes demonic in nature, though other kinds of entities are not unheard of, these undead are usually fully sentient (though there are a rare few exceptions, such as with sanguine shamblers). Most of these forms of undead are fairly powerful, and in some cases the very body has mutated even in death. Also, with that in mind... it is worth noting that in DNM, undead are not "always evil". If it is sentient, one can attempt to reason with it. That goes for anything. (Doesn't mean it will always work, but you can always try.)
