The Battle of New Boston (Terra Magna only)

Postby Great New England Confederation » Sat Apr 21, 2018 7:41 am

New Boston, a colony on the outer ends of human space, and major jumping point for the Confederation's efforts in the sector. The planet is this very important, and the CNES-Ocaris-A, an Inconquerable-Class Cruiser has been assigned to the planet to operate from it, commanded by Captain Kevin Sherman, it operates from the planet, executing the will of the Confederation and defending its borders. However a dark force has discovered the planets existence, one that the Captain has faced before

The CNES-Inconquerable was cruising just outside of the planetary orbit of New Boston, her Titanium-Cadmium alloy hull shined in the light of the Systems star. The six hundred meter long vessel moved with a surprising amount of speed, her massive plasma-impulse engines pushing the vessel along with great ease

Aboard the bridge Kevin stood watching the view in front of him, have loved being out here, seeing the universe in person. He was about to give the order to set course when his sensor officer looked worried, the officer then said "Sir, sensor contacts, at least eighteen, they just popped up sir, on the edge of the system"
He frowned and said "Can you I.D. them commander?"
The officer shook his head and said "Negative sir, they don't match any know registries"

Kevin frowned and said "Get me in contact with the ground commanders at New Boston, and bring us to battlestations. Send out a distress call, we're going to need reinforcements."
"Yes sir, sending it now, and ground command is on the line"

"You contacted Captain?"
"Yes, we have unidentified forces approaching the planet, you need to ready your forces for a possible fight"
"Affirmative, we will mobilize immediately"
He nodded and said "we will buy you time, Kevin out"

He crossed his arms and said "Their move now"

All he could do now was wait to see what happened.

On the surface of New Boston, far below where Captain Kevin Sherman commanded the CNES-Ocaris-A with the goal of protecting the colony, was his wife, Crown Princess Victoria of New England. The Crown Princess was in New Boston with the goal of visiting the colony and presenting herself to the subjects of the Confederation.

Crown Princess Victoria and her friend, Szimonetta Balint-Király were taking a tour of the colony as Captain Sherman was bring informed of unidentified incoming forces. They were in an armored towncar heading towards one of the primary schools and read to the school children. Since her marriage to the Crown Prince just four months prior, Victoria had thrown herself into the duties befitting a future Queen.

She had convinced Kevin to start a royal charity for veterns and she had herself created a charity and a foundation focused on giving the best education for children and students. It was all in an effort to create her own public image of a mother, despite not yet having a child, though not for trying. Victoria had made a strict regimen for herself and her husband to optimize chances of conception, testing herself everyday, she had done so just that day, but had left before she looked at the results, not wishing to be late.

As the car stopped at the school, servants opened the door for the Crown Princess and Mrs. Balint-Király as they stepped out. It was a sunny and beautiful the image of the gas giant that the colony orbited looking beautifully over them.

“How wonderful it is today.”

Szimonetta said with a smile. Szimonetta and Victoria had been friends for years, and Victoria had invited Szimonetta to become her lady-in-waiting, to which Szimonetta had hesitantly agreed, first having to resign her position was Treasurer and Controller of the Naval Forces in Polonge, getting Kristóf Mezei to replace her and moved her and family to New England.

“It truly is.”

Victoria turned away from the school as they reached the doors and looked up at the sky. Somewhere up there her husband was there doing his duty of protecting his country. Victoria had protested, not wishing for him to serve in the stellar fleet, but she knew that he was a bird who needed to be free and fly. Victoria blew a kiss up towards the sky, towards Crown Prince Kevin.

“Be careful my love.”

3rd Reserve Regiment
Commander Will Julie

Will was clad in the standard armor of the Confederation Army, with his Particle rifle slung over his shoulder, as he instructed the men under his command to their posts. The local reserve regiment was being deployed in full, including tanks, artillery, and aircraft. The sound of the CM-189 tanks was able to be heard throughout the colony, as they moved into strategic positions. He heard slightly panicked comb traffic come through as the confused officers and soldiers tried to find out what was going

He looked up to the sky and said "I hope the ships are ready"

Captain Kevin Sherman
Over New Boston

Kevin frowned, the sensor contacts had suddenly vannished, and it only made him think of the events of the battle that had fatally damaged his last ship. He had managed to raise two Galileos and a Hilan Class Cruiser, but they were still heavily outnumbered, if the sensor readings had been correct on what they were facing.

He was about to make an order to change position when his sensor officer yelled out "sensor contacts just reappeared, thirty kilometers!"
"On screen now!"
The vessels were shown and he was about to give the order to open fire when the vessels themselves began opening fire.
"Incoming fire!"

The ships shields stopped. The incoming plasma, but one of the Galileo class corvettes was overwhelmed, her shields failed, and she was torn apart by the projectiles, resulting in her antimatter reactor exploding violently.

"Return fire! All vessels execute evasive maneuvers, CNES Olik fall back and keep them from making landfall"

The Ocaris unleashed a brutal volley with her Plasma-beams and antimatter torpedoes, while herself dodging three torpedoes. Two of her torpedoes struck home on an unfortunate vessel, breaking through the shielding and striking the vessel, releasing the massive yield of their antimatter warheads, causing an explosion that appeared as a small flash in the sky of the planet below, the second such flash since the engagement began.

The battle had begun

Victoria and Szimonetta both froze as the sound of tanks rolled out across the colony. Both women were more than well enough familiar with the sounds of the military. Victoria looked away from the sky and to Szimonetta.

“What is that?”

Szimonetta hesitated, looking around. It was the sound of war. But she didn’t wish to distress her friend and instead gave her a small smile.

“I am sure it is nothing, perhaps just an army drill. Come on, you go ahead and go inside. I’ll catch up with you in a moment.”

“Very well.”

Victoria nodded to her friend and headed inside. The Principal of the school smiled and bowed to the crown princess, telling her how it was such an honor to meet her while she returned the greeting to him. He then lead her further into the school, taking her to the classroom of fourth graders that she was going to be reading to.

Meanwhile outside, Szimonetta had start to make sure that Crown Princess was safe. She found a private place and changed into combat gear and directed the royal guards that were positioned to protecting her, ordering them guard the school with priority on Victoria. Unlike the crown princess, Szimonetta was more then just a regular soldier, and she would do what was needed to protect her.

Over New Boston
Kevin Sherman

The Battle was raging fiercely, with Ocaris successfully destroying two enemy vessels, however the Confederation ships were being forced ever close to the planet.

Kevin felt his ship shake as the Ocaris came under heavy fire, her shields holding up to the heavy barrage. He said "hit that vessel, fire three!"
"Three out!"

The antimatter torpedoes streaked from their launchers, and slammed into one of the enemy vessels, destroying it, and sending chunks of the defeated vessel in all directions at high velocity. The Ocaris fired another volley from her plasma-beam arrays, slicing into an enemy vessel, and tearing off a massive chunk of the vessel.

However the sensor officer suddenly yelled "sir additional sensor contacts! Slightly larger this time sir, they seem like possible troop transports"

Kevin frowned and said "Get the Galileo after those vessels, don't let them touch down!"
"Affirmative sir"

Before the vessel in question could do anything she was struck by an enemy torpedo, tearing the small vessel in half, the bright explosion visible from the ground

On the Ground
Commander Will Julie

"Minakov and Kornik are gone! More enemy vessels are entering system!"
Will cursed and said into his comb system "we need those defense guns operational now, I don't doibt the captain but things aren't looking good"

He was in a field command center with other reserve officers, and they were already talking about evacuations.

He frowned and said "Evacuation isn't an option, we don't have either the time or the ships present. We need to start getting people into shelters now"

He then said "what of reinforcements"

The commander of the local Stellar marine detachment said "unless the ships managed to drop troops, were all we've got"

He frowned and said "then let's hope they can win"

Victoria smiled as she stepped into the classroom. The teacher smiled and she gave her a curtsy.

“Your Royal Highness, a pleasure to meet you.”

“It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss-?”

“Kaur, Hollie Kaur.”

“Miss Kaur. And these are your students?”

Victoria looked to the collect of fourth graders, about 18 or so of them that were all excited to meet the brand new crown princess, a woman who’s wedding had been broadcasted across the homeworld and the Colonies.

“Hello children.”

“Hello Your Royal Highness!”

The children spoke in unison. Crown Princess Victoria smiled and said hello to them as she sat down and after letting the children pick which book they wished to listen to her read, she starting reading Mattock by Monika Szalai. She was in the midst of reading the book when there was a sudden flash from outside. Victoria stopped mid-sentence and everyone looked to the window.

“What was that?”

Over New Boston
Captain Kevin Sherman

Kevin felt his ship shake as the shields were again struck, he frowned and said "damn those ships" he then noticed the troop transports were starting to close with the planet below. He thought and then said "we need to destroy those sh-"

He was cut off as a massive explosion occurred aboard the CNES Olik, the patrol cruiser being consumed by the breach in its antimatter core.

He frowned and said "ignore those cruisers, focus on those transports! Get me transmitting on all frequencies, now!"
"Affirmative sir, your transmitting, both visually and audio"

"Any nearby human warships, this is Captain Sherman of the CNES Ocaris, I am in orbit of New Boston, we are under heavy attack" the ship shook as another volley struck the shield "three ships have been lost, and enemy forces are attempting to land, I will hold them off as long as I can, but please hurry!"

He nodded and it was put on a loop, while he returned his full attention to the battle at hand.

"Fire on the transports closest to the planet!"

The Ocaris fired another burst of torpedoes, hitting two enemy transports, destroying them, and causing pieces of the vessels to start falling down to the planet

On New Boston
Commander Will Julie

Will heard the report of the loss of the patrol cruiser and said "that's it, get everyone into the shelters now! And get those Defense guns firing!"

The Air was filled with an extremely loud, high pitched whine, followed by loud booms, sounding like Thor himself was unleashing his might, releasing loud thunderclaps that could be heard for kilometers as the massive mass drivers fired, sending their shells screaming into space, two of the shells slamming into an enemy ship, severely damaging it

Around the colony reserve troops started moving civilians into emergency shelters.

At the school a squad of marines, clad in full armor arrived in a armored vehicle, followed by armored transports and commandeered civilian vehicles. The Sargent quickly moved through while the soldiers started loading people into the vehicles. He found where the princess was and said ,through the mask of his helmet "Everyone needs to follow me now, we have to get you to the shelter immediately, stay calm and do what the soldiers tell you"

He had a Particle rifle in hand, its setting lever moved to the highest lethal setting, making it clear that this was not a simple drill

Office of the CINCV, Bekan Keep, Sothea, Kingdom of Vrakya

Grand Admiral Praas was working on paper work as part of her duties as the Military Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Vrakya. Nearly after six years after the closure of the Atmoran-Vrakyan War with Praas leading the Atmoran fleets to a glorious total victory over the Vrakyans. Up until the news of the CNES Ocaris being assaulted by unknown combatants there was six years of undisturbed peace.

As Praas was finishing up her paper work, she heard someone knocking on her door, she looked up from her work she, raising her voice so the people behind the door could hear "Yes, come in." Soon after a young Intelligence officer walked into the room saluting Praas before standing at attention to give her the report.

"Ma'am, IASC INTELCORPS have picked up a distress signal from the Crown Prince of New England! He's requesting for immediate reinforcements, New Boston is being attacked Ma'am."

She thought for a moment on who would be best fit to relieve the defences at New Boston, after some thought she spoke out "Iona patch me in to Admiral Talens, I wish to have a word with her." the AI construct appeared in her holographic form in front of the Grand Admiral bowing "Right away Grand Admiral Praas, patching you through to Admiral Talens."

Moments later, a holographic avatar of Admiral Talens appeared. Talens saluted "Ma'am how may I be of assistance today?"

"Erika I want you and your fleet to make a jump to New Boston, they are under siege and requiring assistance. So it is our duty to yet again defend mankind against those who wish to see our extinction."

Talens nodded "Affirmative Grand Admiral." before Talens signed out she put her hand over her heart and shouted "Glory to Mankind!" and in kind the Grand Admiral did the same.

Crown Princess Victoria set down the book and followed the soldiers, Szimonetta appearing by her side and holding her arm as not to becsoeraded from her. Victoria resisted the urge to panic, but she was not one used to being ordered around, she had always been the one to do the managing and ordering, it made her nervous to have it done to her.

“What is wrong? Someone tell me want is wrong.”

Szimonetta whispered to Victoria as she was directed into her personal armored car and it was sent driving towards the shelter.

“There is an emergency regarding the safety of the colony.”

“What? What could—”

Victoria’s eyes widen. That flash from the sky. Kevin was in charge of the protection of New Boston. If there was a conflict, he would be in the thick of it.

“Oh God.” Victoria clutch her hands together and began to pray, chanting in memorized Latin the prayers of protection over her husband.

“In virtute tua confirma nos, Dómine, Deus. Induite vos loricis nobis ut possimus stare adversus insidias diaboli. Scimus quia non est nobis conluctatio adversus carnem et sanguinem, sed adversus principes, et potestates, adversus mundi rectores tenebrarum harum, contra spiritualia nequitiæ, in cælestibus.”

In Orbit
Captain Kevin Sherman

The fight was growing more desperate by the moment, the enemy had his ship outnumbered, and the shields were very close to falling. However the Ocaris was putting up one hell of a fight, she had brought down eight enemy transports, and two more enemy warships.

"Redirect power, get as much out of-" he was thrown down as the ship was struck hard.

"Sir shields just went down!"

"Destroy that-" he was interrupted as more rounds struck the Ocaris, two hitting the saucer and another hitting her starboard engine. "Report!"
"Starboard engine is gone sir, and decks two, three and four have been breached"

He frowned and said "I want all hands off this ship and down on the planet now! Redirect controls to my-" he was jolted as another round struck the stubborn vessel. He got up and yelled "All hands, abandon ship, I will buy time to get down to the planet. Hurry!"

He took control of the vessel, and said "Computer set course for the coordinates"
"That course will cause a collision"
"Override, X-ray Mike Delta Nine Zero Two Four Hector Romeo"

Four shuttles managed to get off the Ocaris, though two were destroyed as a round struck the cruisers hanger.

The Ocaris began moving at flank speed in an intercept vector for one of the enemy vessels, firing with its remaining weapons as it did, destroying another enemy cruiser in the process, causing another explosion.

Kevin stood as the Ocaris began to approach the vessel, he stood as straight and proud as he could, and gave a prayer for his wife as the ship collided with the enemy vessel. The impact destroyed the front section of the Ocaris, and caused a reactor explosion on the enemy vessel, leaving only pieces of the Ocaris left floating over the planet, as her own antimatter reactor exploded, in a display that illuminated the sky.

New Boston

Will heard the call through the comns, and felt his heart sink as the words came through
"Ocaris is gone!"

He looked up and the remenants of the flash, it was his turn now, as the loud thundering of the defensive guns continued, shaking the ground with their thunderous call.

On the vehicle the marines were loading people in when the same statement came through, and the Marine seemed to hesitate, but he immediately jumped back into action.

"Is everyone loaded?"
Another soldier called out "the building is clear sir!"
"Then let's move! Those bastards will be landing any minute now"

The marines loaded onto a different vehicle, as the armored convoy started moving towards the shelter, the marines were taken to their defensive posts. The convoy passed several of the posts, as well as came in view of one of the firing guns. The soldiers were hastily setting up heavy weaponry, Bolt cannons, anti-tank weaponry, even a plasma thrower. Aming then was a Death Marine, helping to organize the effort, standing at 8' in the red power armor, with his bolt rifle in one hand, the fight was coming.

The four shuttles managed to land at the shelter, and began immediately offloading the Ocaris survivors, as well as bringing off several wounded on stretchers, each of whom had varrying degrees of plasma burns.

Adm. Erika Talens, HMS Miyazaki, Imperial Sixth Fleet, Somewhere in Vrakyan Space

Admiral Talen's fleet of fifty three warships, 1 super-dreadnought, 2 battleships, 4 battlecruisers, 9 heavy cruisers and 38 destroyers and frigates were preparing for their jump into slipspace with the intent of relieving the New English defenders. While the Sixth Fleet wasn't as massive as the Fifth Fleet or the System Fleets. It was still a force to be reckoned with. As the final preparation where made, Admiral Talens instructed her AI construct; Julianna to send the orders to other 52 smart AIs in the fleet to make the jump into slipspace. As soon as the orders where given, all 53 Atmoran warships made the jump to slipspace.

Talens got up and overlooked a holographic field of New Boston space, showing what the Intelligence Crops believes to be eighteen enemy warships and three troop transports. Talens gave a little laugh, 18 enemy warships vs. 53 Atmoran warships.

Crown Princess Victoria was still muttering her prayers to God when another flash of light enveloped the sky. Victoria stopped in the middle of her pray and looked out the window at the deadly bright light of the explosion of, unknown to her, the Ocaris. She stared in horror at the explosion, until Szimonetta pulled her away.

“Stay away from the windows, they’re bullet-proof but just to be safe.”

“Oh Szimon. What is happening?”

“Don’t worry Toria. Everything will be fine. We just have to be strong.”

“Then why does it feel like it won’t?”

Szimonetta had no answer to this and simply held her best friend’s hand as Victoria continued her prayers. She would have joined the princess, but she had to keep vigilant and aware of this dangerous situation as the defense guns continued to boom, shattering any stred of silence that have settled in. As the car stopped at the shelter, Szimonetta and the princess stepped out and hurried towards the door.

“Wait!”

“What? What is it.”

Victoria stopped and was pointing at the shuttles that were unloading the crewmen of the Ocaris, Victoria recognized their uniforms as her husband always wore his uniforms so proudly, despite her attempts to get him to look more like a prince than an officer.

“Those are officers of the Stellar Fleet. What are they doing here? I—“

Szimonetta stopped her, pulling her back.

“Toria, you can’t. You know better than anyone that you can’t afford to lose your head at a time like this. You are the crown princess, you have to stay calm, you have to be the leader.”

“But—“

“Toria, please.”

Victoria looked at the officers, wanting to run to them and search them for Kevin, for surely he would be among them. But Szimonetta was right. Victoria let out an irritated sigh and nodded at her friend.

“Fine. But find him. Find him Szimon. Promise me.”

“I promise.”

Szimonetta cupped Victoria’s face and nodded, though she had a sickening feeling that this was a promise that she would not be able to keep. Szimonetta reaches up, as she was slightly shorter than Victoria and kissed her forehead. Victoria nodded and went into the shelter with the rest of the civilians while Szimonetta ran to find Commander Will Julie for answers.

Inside the shelter Victoria could see the children from school gathered around their teacher, none of them cry or saying anything, instead deadly silent. They looked terrified and Miss Kaur was struggling to calm them down. Victoria put on a brave face and stood up tall and straight. She couldn’t lose her head. She was the Crown Princess of New England, she had to be a leader.

Victoria walked over and gave them all her best smile.

“Come now, let’s not worry. Whatever it is we shall all be fine.”

One of the little boys looked up with wide blue eyes.

“Really?”

Victoria nodded assuring him.

“Really. Isn’t that right Miss Kaur?”

Hollie Kaur jumped a bit, she looked closer to tears than some of the children. Perhaps she had some one important to her on the Ocaris, just as Victoria, perhaps a boyfriend or a brother. Either way Victoria hopes that they would be re-united. She hoped they all would. Nonetheless Miss Kaur contained herself and nodded.

“Yes.”

“Good. Now, do you still have that book?”

“Huh? Oh yes, I-uh, grabbed it on relfex.”

“Good, it is okay. May I?”

Victoria took the book from her and sat down in the midst of the children and smiled and began reading to them once again. Quickly she found herself distracted from the rest of the world. Soon the children and Miss Kaur too were too distracted listening to the princess to be scared. And as the battle raged outside, in that little bubble around Victoria there was a calm as she read.

New Boston
Commander Will Julie

The Commander saw as the enemies landing craft began approaching, he frowned, it was going to be a long day, as at least two transport vessels had survived to drop their troops, despite the guns claiming three enemy warships. He heard the sound of ramjets as Confederation atmospheric fighters began engaging the enemy, the loud booming of missiles exploding filled the air.

Unkown to him a news drone was showing the battle unfold, with triple A fire and beam weaponry lighting up the sky. Despite this some of the enemy forces managed to touch down, depositing their deadly cargo on the surface.

It didn't take long for the fighting on the ground to pick up, as the high pitched whine of Confederation Particle rifles, and the rapid thudding of bolt weaponry filled the air. They were joined by the deep booming of the guns of tanks.

At the shelter several medics came running in with men on stretchers, and rushed them into a medical section. The soldiers, both men and women, had horrible burns, some with their armor melted to them, screaming in agony, while others weren't moving. Yet despite the danger, the medics left again, to risk themselves to save the ones who were injured. In the medical area the survivors of the Ocaris were also being treated, and their injuries were no better. Among them was only one of the bridge crew, a Officer who was the chief security officer of the Ocaris.

Atmoran Sixth Fleet, New Boston

The Sixth Fleet jumped out of slipspace behind the enemy fleet. When the fleet was out, Admiral Talens had Juliannna transmit a message through New England forces comms.
"This is Admiral Dame Erika Talens of the Imperial Atmoran Space Command, Fleet Commander of the Sixth Fleet. Reinforcements have arrived, I repeat reinforcements have arrived."
as the transmission ended, Talens nodded to an officer in the command centre to give out the orders to begin engagement of the enemy ships. As soon as the order was given, the Miyazaki fired a salvo of tungsten slugs followed by the battleships Haruna and Kirishima. The battleships MACs tore through the hulls of enemy warships as they made impact. 5 Vendetta class destroyers begin to launch anti-matter missiles towards the enemy fleet, meanwhile the heavy cruisers Princess Cordelia and Princess Jennifer and 3 accompanying Vandettas begin racing towards New Boston to reinforce the front line of the New Boston fleet.

Szimonetta pushes her way through the buzzing shelter, looking for someone to find information regarding the Crown Prince, or even better the Crown Prince himself. She ran towards the medical area and could see that many had the ugly scars of plasma fire. Victoria had described it once to her, but it was different seeing it up close and personal. She looked among the injured. Had they come from starship, if so, there were so many of them. Were they all in such great danger.

Szimonetta went to the ones that appeared the least injure, trying to get them to talk to her.

“Has anyone send Captain Sherman? Can anyone direct me to Captain Sherman?”

New Boston
Commander Will Julie

Will heard the Atmoran transmission come through over the comns, and he said "This is Commander Julie, 3rd Reserves, the fleet is a bunch of floating wreckage. We've been engaged on the ground, we can hold here on the ground for the moment" he stopped and said "but we would appreciate any help you could provide"

The fighting on the ground continued on fiercely, with several dozen Confederation soldiers being wounded or killed. However they were handing the pain right back, dropping at least equal their number in enemy forces.

In the medical area the officer heard Szimonetta asking about his captain. He gave her a grim look and said "I last saw him at his post, he didn't board the shuttle when we escaped, and we lost two shuttles on the way out to enemy fire." He cringed, having a burn on his chest, though not a severe one, it still hurt very badly.

More soldiers were brought into the wing, again with the horrible burns, some with entire parts of their body burn almost unrecognizable. One of them was a Death Marine who had several massive holes melted into his thick armor, and part of his helmet had been melted through, but he was still alive, mostly thanks to his enhancements.

Szimonetta whirled on the officer and crouched down next to him, trying to avoid looking at his burned chest. It wasn’t the worst, but it still was bad and she needed to focus. Surely he couldn’t be saying what she feared.

“What? Are you sure? Could he have gotten on another shuttle? What happen to his ship, what is happening—”

Szimonetta stopped, not wanting to bombard him with questions.

“Sorry. Let me start over. I need to know exactly what happened to the Crown Prince.”

The officer shook his head and said "those two shuttles are molten husks, that's if they survived the ballast of the Ocaris." He then said "We're under attack, the same bastards that attacked the original Ocaris" he thought and said "I doubt he was on one of our four shuttles, and if he didn't make it off the Ocaris, in afraid he's part of the dust cloud in orbit, nothing could have survived that exolosion"
He gritted his teeth at the pain, the wound was painful, and making it hard to speak.

Commodore Lodewijk van Brunsveld, the commanding officer of the five warships heading towards New Boston abroad the HMS Princess Cordelia, as the transmission from Commander Will Julie came through the Fleet Communication channel, Brunsveld ordered the marines abroad the Princess Jennifer and Princess Cordelia to begin boarding a pelican, so that Imperial Marines could relieve the 3rd Reserves planetside, in addition to the deployment of 12 FB-104 Curtanas to provide aerial support. Brunsveld hoped his 900 Marines and 12 Fighters could tilt the land battle in favour of the New English forces.

Meanwhile the remaining 48 warships of the Sixth Fleet proceeded to pound the enemy warships, the intensity of the space battle could be seen planetside, with sporadic flashes of light appearing as Atmoran anti-matter missiles from the initial salvo launched from the Vandetta class destroyers detonated destroying the enemy warships. The HMS Chōkai an Astraea class battecruiser fired a salvo of three tungsten slugs towards an enemy warships, as the warships shields flared as the slug broke through the shields before it penetrated the hull detonating the munitions where anti-matter weapons where stored. Seconds later a bright flash could be seen as the anti-matter created a destructive chain event.

Szimonetta was silent as she listened to the officer. A cold shock washed over her and settled down on her. He wasn’t in the shuttles. Even if he had been, the other two were destroyed, molten husks as the officer had said. The Ocaris was destroyed, that, that was what that giant flash in the sky had been. The colony was under attack and the Ocaris was destroyed and Crown Prince Kevin hadn’t escaped.

This was bad, this was very bad. If the Ocaris and the Crown Prince were both gone, the safety of the colony was hanging in the balance. But even worse, Crown Prince Kevin was gone. He, he was dead. She had to tell Victoria. Szimonetta stood up and started to walk over to her and stopped herself, seeing Victoria read to the school children. She looked regal, like a a Queen.

And now she’d never be one.

No. Szimonetta couldn’t go and ruin that. Not yet. Besides, now was not the time to reveal such a thing. Oh Victoria, poor Victoria. No, she couldn’t reveal that information now, it could break her and start a panic among the civilians and demoralize the soldiers at knowing that their would-be future monarch was dead.

Szimonetta turned to the officer.

“Listen to me. You can not tell anyone about this, not yet. This is of the upmost importance that you not speak a word of this information. It is too sensitive.”

New Boston

Will saw the bright flashes, he nodded in approval, but said nothing, focusing on the fight at hand, his men were holding, but at a great price. His unit alone had suffered thirty-two percent casualties, and the other units were doing much better, but they were holding the line valiantly.

In the medical bay the officer frowned and said "most of the soldiers with access to comns already know" he then said "but I won't say anything"

More wounded, dozens, of not hundreds, were brought in, with more of the same horrible burns. One of the wounded was a tank operator who's entire upper body was burnt, his vehicle had been penetrated in the fighting and two of his crewmen were brought in, they were both dead.

Szimonetta nodded in thanks and went to one of the medics bringing in yet another person into the medical area of the shelter. She spoke with a sense of determination in her voice.

“Is there anyway I can assist?”

Meanwhile as Victoria read she couldn’t help but glance over that the soldiers being carried into the shelter. Surely her husband was among them. But she noticed a Death Marine pulled in. What was that about? Had the fighting truly reached the ground? But if so, what of her husband and the starships in orbit?

Victoria shook her head and went back to reading. She had to distract herself.

New Boston
Commander Will Julie

Will had made due Speed for the shelter as soon as he was certain that the enemy was held in check, and with no hope of the enemy being reinforced, they wouldn't break through anytime soon. However he had lost a lot of good men and women in the fighting, and he knew morale was going to be somewhat low, especially with the knowledge of the death of the Prince being near common knowledge among anyone above the rank of Sargeant.

He arrived there, and exited his vehicle, knowing the princess would have questions for him. He walked into the shelter, and made for the medical ward first, checking the wounded. He frowned at the chilling sight of burnt bodies, but he didn't let it affect him. He then moved back into the main area, taking stock of the situation, he started recieving reports from both a medical officer and the officer who had made sure to keep order in the shelter, while also reassuring people who asked that help was on the way.

Szimonetta saw Commander Julie enter the shelter, the man who she had originally meant to find but he had been busy overseeing the defense of the colony, and rushed over to him. She spoke formally and softly.

“Commander Julie, Sir, may I speak to you for a moment. I know that news of the Crown Prince’s death is spreading, but Her Royal Highness doesn’t know yet and I think it might be unwise to tell her at the moment.”

New Boston

The Commander frowned and said quietly "That is a very cruel thing to do, the longer we keep the information from her majesty, the longer we entertain the thought that he might still be alive." He then said "It would not benefit anyone to withhold that kind of information, especially now that the situation is in some sense of under control"

He then said "I will not give it at will, but if Her Majesty requests to know I will be obligated to inform her of his passing"

His face showed that he was serious, and the ongoing battle didn't exactly help his mood being ideal for an argument. He then said "The enemy made it to ground, and the prince hasn't shown up, it won't take long for people to figure it out themselves"
