OOC: You ever going to comment on the fact that the original Dexterity got hit by hopscotch munitions?

Upon the arrival of the Dexterity, the Catarapanians deploy hopscotch munitions. The station closest to the warship - merely a single light second away - manages to fire exactly one missile prior to its destruction. The missile - weighing about 300 kg - leaves its tube traveling at 203 km/s relative to the Dexterity. Such energy densities would have been impossible to achieve, had it not been for the lessons learned from the enemy landing castles.

The weapon points its nose directly at the bridge of the enemy warship, and activates its (relatively pitiful) warp drive. For an infinitesimal fraction of a second, it enters hyperspace, traveling faster than light. In the blink of an eye, it expends its fuel and falls back into realspace. But now, the hundreds of thousands of kilometers that separated it from the Dexterity are behind it.

As are the Dexterity's shields and hull. The missile drops into realspace inside the Dexterity's bridge. About ten meters in front of it? The Emperor's throne.

The missile passes between his calves, still traveling at 203 km/s, and collides with the throne. In the blink of an eye, 1.2 petajoules of kinetic energy become thermal energy.

Raised bridges are vulnerable, so bury the bridge deep inside your spaceship and leave it there.
Corrolary: if your bridge is retractible, retract it in combat and show it off during peacetime, not the other way around.

Don't deploy anyone important to the front lines, or you'll have to learn to do without them.

And never, ever, put anyone important on a raised bridge on the front lines! Murphy has, like, zero self control, so taunting him is just dumb.

There's going to be a bit of bunnying in this next story of mine. Particularly involving Alliance members. Feel free to void whatever you disapprove of, and I will edit this post accordingly.

IC:

The First Summit ended in tumult. A new nation had entered the war and attacked Kodiak and Casvania, the Rakdaic/Casvanian cold war flashed for several days, and peace talks were postponed. Ultimately, the Vulcanites offered their services to the Solarian Alliance, the Swarm slowed down the Rakdaic forces enough for escalation to grind to a halt, and Emperor Kaolin Krai expressed a willingness to hold a Second Summit.

On the third day of the talks, Premier Stanton of Smithtonia delivered his infamous line, summarizing perfectly the Alliance's approach towards dealing with Piethrixia: "They called. We answered. And we will never cease answering until the calls stop." This had been met with applause by Alliance members generally, and - surprisingly, given the way the summit had gone up until this point - even by Emperor Krai himself. But the real turning point of the summit was a sudden Piethrixian attack on Io. That appeared to be the last straw for Emperor Krai. He declared the alliance with Piethrixia null and void, and joined the Solarian Alliance. That very day, Rakdai unilaterally released all prisoners of war from Alliance nations and returned them to their homes.

Meanwhile, Catarapanian and Kodiakite ships stationed at Ceres responded to the Piethrixian attack on Io. Mercurian assets were mobilized as well. The fleet battle that followed was nothing short of epic. The Piethrixians revealed a dangerous new weapon known as the Eclipse, which apparently allowed them to nullify the existence of enemy assets - or something like that. Volcanite reports on what, exactly, had happened to the shield generators were absolutely perplexing - the devices had simply vanished, as if into thin air.

The Volcanites had responded by weaponizing Io's unique geology. An exchange of antimatter and atomic weapons followed. The battle was ended when the Volcanites used some sort of super weapon to destroy the Piethrixians fleet. An estimated 91% of Piethrixian assets were mission-killed by the weapon. Most fled successfully, and many were destroyed outright, but some were merely disabled. These were quickly taken and studied by Alliance scientists. This was a cause for great celebration back on Earth. The Alliance had dealt the Piethrixians yet another bloody nose.

But the joy was short lived. Emperor Kaolin Krai had to leave the Allied War Room (currently stationed in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, having been moved to the Rakdaic capital from the border of Casvania) later that day when an aide delivered a message to him. A few minutes later, he returned.

"Is everything alright, Emperor?" asked Chancellor Davis.

"Just a rebellion on Titan. Nothing much to worry about," replied Emperor Krai.

"That sounds like a thing one would share with one's allies," said Supreme Leader Eisenhower of South Acren. "I'm sure we would all be happy to offer what aid we can." Eisenhower looked around the room. The leaders of other members of the Alliance nodded in assent.

"While Rakdai appreciates the offer, we fear that such aid would place a burden upon the Alliance - a burden you can ill afford while the Piethrixian threat still stands. We will handle this ourselves."

"Isn't the point of an Alliance to share burdens among the allies?" interjected Secretary-Leader Erich Kurov of Casvania. "Moreover, I think I recall you mentioning that your people had been in favor of a war with our nation. Calling off that war and joining the Alliance, while clearly a good decision on your part, does risk the possibility of popular unrest. However, if your people were to see a tangible benefit to the empire coming from this Alliance, such unrest could be alleviated. While Casvania's space-based assets are limited, we will provide such aid as we can."

"As will Catarapania," spoke Chancellor Davis. "The burden of dealing with this rebellion will be dealt with by some Alliance member whether or not we provide aid. You are one of us now, remember? If the Alliance can ill afford the burden of dealing with this rebellion, then the best thing for us to do would be to work together and put it down as quickly and efficiently as possible."

Primier Stanton, who had been on a roll with Alliance rhetoric since the Second Summit, had his own contribution to make. "When Casvania was under threat by your forces, we closed ranks around them. Now that you have joined the Alliance, and are at risk of Piethrixian reprisals, we are closing ranks around you. What makes you think we will stand idly by while your colonies are attacked by insurgents?"

President Mastif, of Eastern Kodiak, had the last word. "Alliance is for solidarity, yes? We stand together! Strong! Undivided! Show whole galaxy that we never be broken."

Emperor Krai nodded. "Very well, then. If you think it is the best way to ensure victory against the Piethrixian menace, Rakdai will accept whatever aid you may be willing to give."

In the event, it proved to be a very wise choice on the Emperor's part.

Admiral Sheng, near Io, had been given new orders. At the beginning of the war, there were only two key points that Catarapania had to deal with: Mercury and Earth. The Alliance had complicated things, adding first Ceres then Io to the list of places that needed to be protected. Moreover, the Piethrixian withdrawal from Earth orbit had made Mars a center of enemy power. Now, Rakdai had joined the Alliance, and Titan was a new point in need of defense. And it was currently under threat.

He had at his disposal four Rukk class dreadnoughts, thrity-five Agamemnon class cruisers, and eighty Firedrake class destroyers. Back around Mercury, between forces that he had left behind and forces that had been built since deployment, there were two dreadnoughts, twenty cruisers, and sixty-five destroyers.

These were his resources. He now had to decide how to allocate for the accomplishment of each objective. The first step was easy: don't send anything to Mars. There were at least seventeen fully functional landing castles there, each of which was almost certainly capable of fending off attack by the Swarm, and were quite probably resistant, or even immune, to breacher munitions. No point sending good ships into that meatgrinder. The next two decisions were also easy: Ceres and Io were well protected by their colonizing polities. That left Earth, Titan, and Mercury in need of defense. The most urgent need for reinforcements was around Titan, but the most important was unquestionably Earth. Mercury was capable of defending itself, Hermes had managed to rebuild about 23% of the Caloris basin Solar Farm, and had begun an equatorial band for additional energy. Meanwhile, multiple nuclear reactors many kilometers under the surface could top off the flywheels until the solar facilities were finished.

Ultimately, Admiral Sheng decided on the following order of battle: of the Ionian forces, thirty Agamemnon-class cruisers, seventy-five Firedrake-class destroyers, and all dreadnoughts around Io would begin a brachistochrone trajectory for Saturn. They would inject somewhat above the orbit of Titan, and more or less coplanar with it. The remaining five cruisers and five destroyers at Io would make best speed for Earth. Meanwhile, Mercury would commit fifteen cruisers, forty destroyers, and both dreadnoughts to the defense of Earth. The remainder of the fleet - five cruisers and twenty-five destroyers - would continue to be stationed at Mercury.

He proceeded to divide the Titan Command into three divisions. Division one consisted of fifty destroyers and ten cruisers, and served as a vanguard. Division two was about fifty thousand kilometers behind Division one, and consisted of ten cruisers and twenty-five destroyers. Division three was twenty thousand kilometers behind division two, and consisted of the four dreadnoughts and fifteen cruisers.

Injection into Saturn's orbit was fairly uncomplicated. As planned, the fleet was somewhat above the orbit of Titan, and somewhat prograde to the moon. As the moon began to catch up with the Catarapanian fleet, division three made a retrograde burn and began to "fall" towards Titan. A few hours later, division two also made a retrograde burn, and fell towards Titan along a different vector. Within a few hours, they would both manage to fly by the fleet of the "Grand Republic" in what essentially amounted to a pincer movement. The first division remained in its orbit, serving as a means of cutting off (or, at the very least, drastically complicating) the retreat of the Republican fleet should it choose not to give battle.

The choice for the Republicans was simple: stand ground, and get caught between a rock and a hard place; run, and face up against the imposing reserve force (which, should they attempt to flee from it, would certainly buy time for the first two divisions to line up a second pass); or ignoble surrender.

But before that action could resolve itself, the Piethrixians launched an indiscriminate attack on Titan, resulting in massive casualties amongst both Loyalists and Republicans.

TL; DR version:

1. The Allies talked Emperor Krai into accepting their help with the Republican invasion. (OOC: I tried to give as many leaders a speaking role as possible, and I've decided that Premier Stanton of Smithtonia is going to be Mr. Quotable from here on out.)

2. Admiral Sheng has placed two divisions of warships on an approach to Titan from two different vectors, both of which pass by the Republican fleet. The division coming in on a retrograde vector (from a Republican-fleet-stationary point of reference) consists of four dreadnoughts and fifteen cruisers, the division coming in along a radial vector consists of ten cruisers and twenty five destroyers. There is also a reserve force of fifty destroyers and five cruisers, prepared to move in should the Republican fleet either manage to get the upper hand or attempt to flee.

Destroyer - a ship capable of destroying things. Catarapanian destroyers are typically around 160 meters long and are armed with strips of phased array laser emitters for point defense, and a primary battery of ~5 kt casaba howitzer missiles.

Cruiser - a ship specialized for C4I and often utilized in a missile defense role. Usually around 200 meters in length. If you've ever been in the hard Sci Fi scene, you can think of it as a laserstar with extremely impressive C4I and electronic warfare capabilities.

Dreadnought - more than an order of magnitude larger by displacement than any other mobile asset of the Catarapanian Astry, these 700 meter behemoths are built around a single titanic mass driver. They can turn huge volumes of the battlespace (more technically, the battlephasespace) into deadly minefields.

3. Suddenly Piethrixians start shooting at the moon and everything is on the brink of dissolving into a Charlie Foxtrot of... Titanic proportions. (YEEEEAAAAAAAAH! ) Nobody knows who to shoot at and, given the nature of exoatmosphiric force deployment, Sheng's divisions are still on course to intercept the Republican fleet.

But even if the bridge was retracted (in spite of the fact that you never once mentioned that fairly significant tactical decision until just now), the hopscotch munition would still have been able to hit your ship somewbere, releasing 150 kilotons worth of energy. That means that about half a kilometer of your ship is going to be straight-up vaporized, and the resulting shock wave traveling through what remains (probably two pieces) will produce fatal over pressure throughout the entirety of the vessel. And that's before we start asking questions about things like major hull breaches.

So. If you can't come up with something you had set up ahead of time, or a reason why I shouldn't even have been able to fire in the first place, or something along those lines, things aren't looking good for Jacobus.

"Looks like we made the right decision" Koalin Krai states as the Piethrixian ships attack the allies. He offers a parley with the Grand Rebublic of Titan. If they join the allies, they will get 2/3 of Titan, Dione, Phoebe, Tethys, Pandora, and Janus, while Rakdai will get 1/3 of Titan, Enceladus, Mimas, Iapetus, Rhea, and Hyperion, and we will share the remaining moons, and Grand Republic of Titan will get 10 Arrowheads.

The full Rakdaic fleet is prepped to launch from the Oort cloud.

OOC: in the factbook it says the larger cannons can Create craters 100 km in diameter. i'm not talking about a Large ALDNOAH Cannon here, I'm talking about a Gigantic ALDNOAH Cannon. It would at least create an explosion that reaches 200 km away. Also how would you hit something 2 meters wide going at Mach 15? (thats 5145 M/S)
