The Emperor stares off into space. He rembembers the atrocities that the Piethrixians had done in the last war. He has done what would be best for the Empire, but he hates it. It's too late to turn back, but that doesn't stop the constant protests, debates, and arguments. He can't declare neutrality, the Piethrixians would attack. He will stay allied for now.

OOC: That might not be as useful as you might think. Space is big. Combat ranges will be in the hundreds, or even thousands, of kilometers. At that sort of distance, hitting even a kilometer-long ship would require milliradian - or even sub-milliradian - precision. That's a REALLY small target, and since any two ships will be moving at considerable speed relative to one another (depending on tactical decisions, somewhere between tens of meters per second and tens of kilometers per second), the target is liable to have changed position in the sky between the time that it fires and the time that the projectile comes back around.

IC: Admiral Sheng inquires if it can take a nuke. Given the Piethrixian predilection for such weapons, this is a fairly important consideration.

On board the Leader of Casvania is Treated like royalty. THey are given the finest of Wines, Breads and Other things from Vers.

When they reach Vers they are sat down with the Emperor alone.

Meanwhile, on Earth:

Increasingly invasive. That would be how the Kataphracts would describe the little recon drones. Getting them out of all the little nooks and crannies in each mech's chassis is becoming more and more difficult, and some have suggested that it isn't worth the trouble. Really, it isn't like the Catarapanian freedom fighters can face a mech in combat. Of course, the more advanced weapons - hypersonic missiles, railgun rounds, and the like - can be very dangerous indeed, but for the most part, the Catarapanians are still holding their heavy artillery in reserve. What, exactly, is the danger in letting them have good intelligence on troop dispositions? Should they ever have the numbers or technology to stand up against the Kataphracts, precautions would be necessary, but right now they quite simply don't.

All AA Guns are pointed skyward with orders to shoot any enemy planes out of the sky. Citizens are relocated to Unknown Bunkers. All Military personnel are authorized to shoot any enemy soldier on sight.

The Smithtonians send 20% of their entire war effort in just a short amount of time. 4-stacker and Twin-stacker ships steam towards South Acren, carrying supplies, men, and soldiers. The ships are escorted by heavily-armored chrome-clad battleships, and the forces sent total 4 million.

Admiral McCallister, Commodore Okoye, and theatre supremacy cruiser Argus make weigh for South Acren, along with their entire battlegroup: the railgun-armed battleship Manticore, two drone carriers with 60 drones each, a pair of light cruisers, four distroyers, six anti-submarine frigates, twelve radar/sonar pickets, and something like half a dozen assorted submarines. About a third of the Catarapanian Navy is now devoted to defending South Acren's shores.

The Huge Landing castle creates a huge explosive blast as it lands on the surface of the planet. A huge wave is sent towards the Fleet of Smithtonian vessels.

The Landing castles entire barrage of Rockets fire off towards the Fleet.

OOC: I think it might be a good idea for us to sort out some basic geography and an overview of available forces. Just so we know who will need help with what.

Catarapania is an island nation about one third the size of Australia. Temperate climate, the Catarapan Mountains in the middle, those surrounded by fertile praries, and a ring of port cities around the outside. Catarapania City, which is currently housing an ongoing insurgency against the Piethrixian landing castle, is on the Southwest cost. Since every Catarapanian male over the age of eighteen is technically a member of the Catarapanian millitia, there are plenty of freedom fighters there. The millitia has taken heavy casualties, but there are still about 8.5 million men around. However, they're not equipped to leave Catarapania.

The mountains reach the sea up in the Northwest, with a maze of fjords and caves. The water there is surprisingly deep. That's where the Catarapanian shipyards are... though, since all Catarapanian ships are capable of operating underwater, the shipyards themselves are also underwater, so it can be hard to tell just how active those yards actually are. I have a second battlegroup that looks more or less like the one I sent to South Acren, and a half-battlegroup consisting of an Argus class theatre supremacy cruiser, a drone carrier, and about half as many escorts as the "standard" battlegroup - 1 light cruiser, 2 destroyers, 3 frigates, 3 subs, and 6 picket ships. There are also independent forces, totalling to maybe two dozen destroyers and frigates. Finally (well, there are other submersible assets I haven't discussed, but you can't expect me to reveal all my secrets), I have one arsenal ship already built, and a second one under construction. When the latter is finished, the former will leave Catarapanian waters to report to South Acren.

The Terriers (Terrestrial Fighting Units) and the Aerospace Force (which handles operations in the atmosphere and within Earth's Hill Sphere) are based in the central Catarapan mountains. The Terriers number about 2,400. In terms of equipment, they all wear power armor (think Halo, not WH40K) and none of 'em carries anything under 7.62. For support, they have 200 AFV's and 50 Main Battle Tanks. These troops can be fully deployed to any point on the glove within 24 hours.

Most of the Aerospace Force is pretty darn high-endurance. The most important assets right now would be the four Catarapanian Aerospace Fighter Wings. Each wing consists of six squadrons of six fighters. That's 144 spacecraft total. As their name suggests, they are equally capable of maneuver in the atmosphere and outside of it, though they tend to stay high whenever possible. They're particularly good for C4ISTAR and EW. There are other platforms (most of them long range, high payload aircraft limited to endo atmospheric operations), but again, I have tricks up my sleeve that I don't intend to reveal right away.

The Astry (which handles operations outside of Earth's Hill Sphere, though they often collaborate with the Aerospace Force) is nominally based on Mercury, but Mercury's taken a pounding recently, so most of the Astry is currently operating near Ceres until there's a chance to do something. As discussed previously, I have 20 cruisers, 50 destroyers, 150 corvettes, and 350 "pure" space fighters. Of these, 12 cruisers and 30 destroyers have been equipped with Kodiakite "kinetic shields" and are currently based at Ceres. The remainder are in orbit around Mercury.

That about covers it. With the exception of forces based in the landing castle already in my capital, attack can only reach me by sea, air, and space. How about the rest of you? In particular, do any of you have land borders that might need reinforcement? Because the Terriers are just a phone call away, and while 24 hours is a long time to wait, you can't beat a squadron of air dropped tanks if you need close air support.

IC: the attack is on the edge of Argus' sensor network, but since there's a destroyer, two frigates, and four picket ships attached to the Smithtonian fleet, 'e has eyes on the target, and weapons ready for launch. The RIM-214 Kestrel is a small, nimble defensive missile, used to take down incoming missiles. In total, there are about nineteen hundred on site, packed nine-to-a-cell on the Catarapanian VLS systems. About half are launched to deal with the incoming rockets. Another volley will be launched if any unfriendly weapons make it through the scrum.

About half an hour later, the Manticore (which is stationed a few thousand kilometers away, but when your guns have a muzzle velocity of 10 kips, that's no biggie) welcomes the landing castle to terra firma with sixty metric tons of hypersonic steel.

Meanwhile, in Catarapania City:

Altogether, the situation is deteriorating. Like swarms of locusts, uncountable hordes of tiny ISR drones turn the very air around the landing castle into a thick and menacing fog. Under armor plates, inside cockpits, even a handful in the causeways of the castle itself: the damnable little synsects get everywhere. Ridding the battle space of these things is becoming a top priority, even as the insurgents grow bolder. Barrages of hypersonic missiles and railgun rounds fall from the sky like hail; at last, the Catarapanian military stops pulling its punches. Something has to be done, and soon. Everybody knows that the occupation cannot be sustained under these conditions.
