The Red Mountain (IC, SIGNUPS CLOSED)

Postby Island of Ikona » Wed Apr 11, 2018 10:32 pm

April 5th, 2018
Olera Mountain Base

Lycomedes Manolis watched from the small tower in the middle of the base. All around him men scrambled from building to building. Several trucks full of dozens of men exited from the front entrance and began to descend down the mountain. The abandoned Mavedonian military based served as a perfect headquarters for his rebellion. It sat at the peak of the 1,650 meters above sea level and boasted a beautiful view of the surrounding area. To the north you could see a glimpse of the ocean; to the east and the west were several small towns and villages, and to the south was the Olera forest, an area covered in fir trees. The wind at the top of the peak was present but not too strong, and the sky was completely clear, exposing the sun onto the men below. Despite the serene setting, the peacefulness of the island would soon come to an end.

Manolis had a long history in the Mavedonian military. The 58 year old joined when he was just 18. He was a former special forces member, operating at the 'third tier' as you could call it. He went through extensive training and numerous deployments across the world. The Ikona native returned home to his village after his service expecting a hero's greeting but received anything but that. His family remained in a state of extreme poverty, and their small farm outside of the village didn't produce enough crops to make any decent money. Manolis was not the only one, though- another friend of his, an Ikona native who was in the same unit as him, arrived home to the same scene. It was clear that they were not the outliers, and that much of Ikona was in a state of poverty.

Having read the works of many socialist authors, Manolis was familiar with the economic system and how it would work. The corporations in Nyriona sucked the money out of Ikona, leaving it poverty stricken. Manolis and his friend gathered their colleagues and other veterans from the military in Ikona and discussed making a change for the island. Manolis presented the theory of socialism and his plan for the People's Republic of Ikona. His idea was very popular, and the men agreed to work together to recruit new members, organize militias, and stockpile weapons and equipment.

15 years later, Manolis and his colleagues finally saw their opportunity. The word was spread throughout the island, and men flocked to the abandoned base to await further orders. It had been two weeks since they had first arrived at the base, and now Manolis was ready to begin his rebellion. He looked further ahead of him, down the rugged slopes of the mountain and watched the trucks get smaller and smaller as they drove off into the distance. The men from the Red Mountain had begun their descent.

Iolcyras

The men sat in the cramped apartment, huddled around the small kitchen table. They had a variety of weapons slung across their backs, each designed and produced in different parts of the world. They could hear occasional gunshots ring out in the distance, although they seemed far away and infrequent. The family of the apartment brought them soup, a gesture of welcome to the rebel forces in the city.

"Iolcyras is basically a checkpoint between the western and eastern side of the island" said one man. "By taking this city, we leave the east exposed. We've basically cut off the eastern side."

Another man took a sip of his soup and smirked. "That's dumb. We're so far away from friendly forces, if they manage to find a way behind us then we're cut off and screwed. This was a dumb idea from the start, Theseus, and soon we're all gonna die because of it." Several other men at the table nodded in agreement.

Theseus let out a huge sigh. "You idiots don't understand, the geography of the island makes Iolycras a chokepoint. They're unable to get around us, meaning the area east of us is cut off and exposed to-"

"Shut up general Theseus," teased another soldier, raising laughter throughout the room.

Theseus shook his head in annoyance. These idiots wouldn't understand, he thought. His meal was soon interrupted as the door to the apartment flung open.

"Government soldiers, they're outside! I don't know how they got through, there's gotta be at least 20 of them, plus an APC or something. Nobody's engaged them yet, but- damn it, just get outside!"

The soldier's in the apartment sprung into action. Theseus' heart began to pound. He slung his rifle from his back, grabbing it and proceeding to run down the stairs of the apartment. His team of 6 men went around the back exit of the apartment building and into a small concrete-filled area surrounded by a concrete wall. The men ran against the wall and peered overhead and into the street ahead of them. Almost 200 meters in front were two squads of Mavedonian soldiers accompanied by an APC. They moved down the street together and seemed to be unaware of the rebel presence in the area. One of the men in the rebel team reached for his radio, asking several questions into the communication device before setting it back down. He then pointed to the right of the men where another team of a dozen Ikonan rebels sat behind a wall of similar composition. The leaders of the two teams nodded at one another, and the man with the radio turned to address his squad.

"Alright, listen closely, because I don't have time to repeat myself," he began. There's a man on the roof of the building to our left with an anti-tank weapon. He is going to engage the APC and disable it. At the same time, we will all open fire on the infantry in the street while the squad to our right will flank around the catch them off guard. We don't have much time before we have to withdraw, so make your shots count, especially while they are out in the open. Do you all understand?"

The men in the squad each quickly shook their heads. There was an obvious sense of fear among the men- it was to be their first combat experience, and it was possible that their friends, or even they themselves, would not make it out alive. Many of the men were shaking profusely, with others growing extremely pale.

"Good," said the team leader. "Now get ready."

Theseus checked his magazine and then looked back out into the street. He identified the man that he was going to fire at. He began to clench his weapon tighter in his fists, awaiting the sound of the anti-tank launcher, but nothing came. The men each sat and waited, giving one another puzzled looks. The Mavedonian soldiers were closing in on their position at a steady pace. Soon they were within 100 meters of the men, although there still was no firing from the top of the building. The silence tore apart at Theseus, making him more paranoid as each second went by. Finally, the woosh of a rocket sounded, and a missile struck the side of the APC, sending it into a burst of flames. Theseus rose his rifle over the concrete wall and began to fire at his target.

His first shot ripped through the skull of the Mavedonian man, and his body slammed into the ground. Theseus was shocked, stopping and lowering his rifle for a second. He could not believe what he had just done. "Petros!" Theseus heard to his left. He turned and locked eyes with his squadmate. "What the hell are you doing? Keep shooting you-" the man was interrupted by a bullet to the head, jolting his body back and onto the ground. Theseus was abhorred, and immediately turned back to the street, his fear and nervousness transitioning into anger. He aimed down his sights and locked onto another Mavedonian soldier firing several more shots before hitting him with a bullet to the stomach. Another man ran and grabbed the wounded Mavedonian soldier, pulling him aside and into cover. The Mavedonian soldiers began to retreat, inspiring cheers from the Ikonan rebels.

The team leader's radio began to sound once again. He picked it up, and his face immediately grew pale. "Run! Fall back!" he called, picking up his rifle and sprinting back the opposite direction of the Mavedonian soldiers. Theseus, confused and dazed at the leader's reaction to their victory. Turn back to the street. He soon saw why the leader was running. A Mavedonian tank was coming down the road with it's turret facing their position. He turned around and followed the leader, running as fast as he could. A thundering shot cracked from behind him. He winced, expecting for the round to land in his back, but it instead struck the wall the men had sat behind. He kept running, zig-zagging through what seemed to be miles of small alleyways between the apartment buildings until finally the leader stopped. The team had reached the rebel held portion of the city. They had made it out alive.

"This is an embarrassment!" screamed general Abderus Liakos, slamming his fist against the table. The officers sitting in the small, dimly lit room with him each jumped, none of them daring to raise a word, "How can guerrilla fighters even stand a chance against a professional military force? One would find it impossible, yet the rebels have managed to push us out of Iolycras. How does this happen? The 12th Mechanized Brigade is completely pushed back by civilians with guns? What point is training and maintaining a professional force when some untrained rebels can defeat them with ease."

The men in the room remained silent. The General sighed, and turned to the man to his right, asking a question, this time with a much calmer tone in his voice. "Lieutenant General Tripolis, what is the status of the Pylea Component?"

Tripolis cleared his throat, still visibly frightened by the appearance of the general. "The 3rd and 12th Mechanized infantry brigades have arrived in Ekonos, as well as the 17th armored brigade. The remainder of the component is set to arrive no later than the 9th, sir," he finished, letting out a subtle sigh of relief as the general maintained a calm expression.

"I want that armored brigade and the 3rd mechanized infantry brigade in Iolycras as soon as possible, understood?" ordered the general. Tripolis nodded quickly. "Good. You are all dismissed," he finished.

Outside of Iolycras

"We are going to push directly to the Victory Plaza with Karanos' battalion" said Lieutenant General Tripolis, pointing at a map of the city with a pointer in his hand. The sounds of men barking orders and vehicles driving could be heard from all around as Mavedonian soldiers prepared their assault. "Along with his battalion will be the infantry section of the brigade. The two other armored battalions will advance along the flanks, ensuring we aren't surrounded and caught off guard. Each of these battalions will have an infantry battalion from the 3rd mech. brigade accompanying them. The key to this operation is to move forward at a steady pace- the goal is not to rapidly secure the city, but rather to slowly and safely take back control and eliminate rebel presence. Moving too quickly means we risk biting off more than we can chew. We know that the guerrillas are smart, so be careful.

Iolycras is a city of around 20,000 inhabitants. The buildings are packed very tightly together. Although this may allude to a quick and easy battle, you cannot expect our operations in the city to go by quickly. This is an insurgency- you must clear every building, every street, every alleyway. Platoon leaders will each be given maps of the city and will be ordered to report back up the chain of command each building that is cleared by our soldiers. When clearing buildings keep notice that there may be civilian targets inside. Use armor to take down heavily fortified rebel buildings. If you must, risk the lives of civilians to complete the mission. Although it sounds awful, this is war, and if you want to live some of them have to die. Their deaths in an urban setting are inevitable. understood?," he finished.

The men listening to the briefing each nodded in agreement. "Good," said Tripolis. "We move out in 10. Get your men ready."

April 8th
Iolycras

Argos Maheras watched as his squad mate kicked down the door of the house. He took several aggressive steps inside, quickly checking the right side of the room as another squad mate checked the left. Three more Mavedonian men went upstairs, clearing and checking the rest of the 2 story house. "Clear!" one called from above. Another radioed into the platoon leader to inform them of the clearing of the house.

Argos and the men went back outside and joined the other squad. His platoon had split into two- two squads accompanied by two tanks on one street, while the remaining two squads accompanied by two tanks on the street opposite of the row of buildings to his right. The entire city was organized into advancing units such as this one, some accompanied by IFVs and APCs instead of tanks. The heavy firepower of the tanks outgunned anything the rebels had access to, and provided great cover for when advancing down the street.

Argos and his squad had yet to encounter and rebel soldiers, although frequent gunshots could be heard from buildings across the city. It was clear that the rebels were in the area. He felt as if a million men were staring him down, the weight of their eyes beating on his back. Argos did not feel safe in the city street.

His squad reached the next building. Argos moved to the right of the door and his squad mate once again walked to the door and prepared to kick it down. He raised his leg and shot it against the door, breaking it apart in a single motion. Almost as quickly as the door hit the ground the sound of a machine gun burst from inside the room, striking the soldier several times in the chest before he fell dead to the ground. Argos and his squad immediately took cover. He reached for a grenade, pulling the pin and tossing it into the room. After a shrill scream the explosion went off. Argos motioned for the men to come along with him. They entered the room, clearing the first and second floors and identifying three dead rebels, each killed by the grenade. Argos motioned to exit the building when he heard a massive explosion. Looking out the window of the house, he saw one of the two tanks engulfed in flames. A rebel hidden explosive had been detonated, destroying the tank. At the same time his squad leader's radio began to pick up. "They're moving in, get ready!" called the voice on the other side. Despite the vagueness of the message, Argos and his squad knew exactly what it meant. They each took position in various room of the building and began to open fire on advancing rebel soldiers.

Rebel soldiers began to peek out from windows and doorways of buildings all the way down the street. Argos saw one door open and a man's body slide out from behind, the rebel firing at a Mavedonian in the street. Argos fired a single shot into the mans chest, causing him to fly back in a single violent motion. He began to search for another target when he heard a cry from a Mavedonian soldier on the stairwaybehind him. "Technical, coming down the road! It's got a .50 cal!" yelled the soldier before heading back upstairs. Argos turned around and peered again out the window. He began to hear the shots of a heavy machine gun before finally seeing the technical speeding down the road. It was an old truck with a machine gun mounted on it's back. Around the machine gun was metal plating to protect the gunner from enemies. Argos ducked down as the gun swiveled towards him and began to unleash a storm of bullets in his direction. They had advanced too quickly, and the rebels were taking advantage of it.

Operation Panther
5th Fleet
100km from the Island of Ikona

Fleet Admiral Ian Tan was a short, arrogant man. Having reached the rank of fleet admiral at the young age of 36, he was a brilliant tactician but was also very cautious. He was given command of Operation Panther, the goal was to take out the communists and restore order.

“Sir! We are approaching the island.” Tan’s thinking was interrupted by the young officers report. “So we are. I need all of the high command in my office now.” The young officer confirmed, saluted the Admiral and went to fetch the members of the Operation’s high command.

“Gentlemen I want us to blockade the city of Iolcyras as soon as we get in position. Our intelligence has the communist rebels concentrated in the city. Our intel also says that the city is an important chokepoint on the island,” the Admiral began. “If we can take it we can severely hurt the rebels.”

“So what are we going to do Admiral?” 56 year old Marine General Gorge Thæn asked.

“I’m glad you asked. I first want us to just blockade the city. Halt all traffic in and out of city. Then I want us to establish air superiority, we won’t shell the city just yet as there is reports of Mavedonians conducting operations in the city. We just need to provide air and naval support for our allies. Understood?”

“Yes but what fighters are we going to use?” Asked Commander John Farn, Navy flight Commander.

“At this point I want to use 50 of the F/A-30 Lagrels alongside of the fighters I want at least 10 of the Anakonda Attack Helicopters to help support our allies. At this moment we will hold off on using the UAVs. That concludes our meeting gentlemen.”

SUBJECT: On the war in Ikona

Dear citizens of the world, and whomever it may concern,

We have been recently monitoring the war in Ikona, and after extensive information gathering and multiple hours-long meetings, we have determined that a peacekeeping force in the area is necessary.

We believe that Mavedon has been abusive of the Ikonan people, and thus we shall not associate ourselves with their government. However, the recent communist organization in the island will be a threat to the world once it succeeds.

Due to these circumstances, we shall attempt to deploy a small peacekeeping force and offer an ultimatum soon to both parties. We encourage other nations that are involving themselves in this conflict to reflect on the actions of either side.

May all this come to a safe, and logical conclusion.

Dear President Jacob Zarman,

Through our surveillance of national affairs, it has come to our attention that you are sending a small part of your navy towards the island of Ikona, which is currently in a civil war.

We are also sending a peacekeeping force into the region, and we would like to request that you do not open fire on or make enemies of our troops. We are not going to region in support of the rebels nor Mavedon; we are simply there to assess the situation before we can make a move.

We also request that you remain in contact with us in order to maintain organization of our forces, and avoid fatal accidents from occurring.

Hopefully our mutual respect for eachothers' respective nations and organizations will be fruitful. May God be with your nation.

Fleet Admiral Tan,

I have been informed by the International Security Corps that they will be deploying a force of peacekeepers to the region. You are under strict orders to not directly attack them and you will inform them of any major attacks where there are high concentration of their forces.

I am officially green lighting all air superiority strikes, air raids, and bombings against the rebels. I am also approving of the shelling of rebel positions, to begin effectively immediately.

Admiral Tan was deep in thought as he looked out on the city. He had just finished reading the letter from the president informing him of the presence of peacekeepers. “This will complicate matters” he thought to himself.

“Oh well. We still have a mission to carry out”, Tan said to himself. “Capitan Richards assemble the high command. We need to go over the particulars.” Tan barked at his assistant.

President Zarman,

Mavedon will be forever thankful for your support in defeating the communist radicals. We will ensure that we take every measure necessary to coordinate our attacks with your men and ensure the safety of your forces.

We would have to ask to hold off on the shelling of the town of Iolycras. There is still a significant civilian population in the area and shelling would result in an abundance of unnecessary casualties. This would not help our cause in the eyes of the international community, specifically the ISC, who has alluded to an ultimatum.

To the governing body of the ISC,

The recent mention of the deployment of a peacekeeping force and an ultimatum have deeply troubled the Mavedonian Ischyroídom. Such threats on our national security cannot be taken lightly, and the notion that you will violate our national sovereignty and send soldiers into our borders without the consent of the Ischyroídom leads us to believe that you are more of an enemy than a friend.

As such I have requested to immediately meet with an official from your nation and discuss the ongoing situation as soon as possible. I hope we can resolve this through diplomacy and not an aggressive ultimatum.

April 8th
Iolycras

Theseus swiveled the gun back in front of him, firing at another small group of Mavedonian troops. Behind him followed two more makeshift-technicals, each speeding closely behind. Theseus' car quickly skidded to a stop and turned back around and began racing back down the road it had just come from. He kept firing at the Mavedonians, noticing what appeared to be the beginnings of a retreat. As they raced past the men once again and back behind the lines of their soldiers on the ground, Theseus called to the rebel men; "They're starting to fall back! Push forward, take more ground!"

Rebel soldiers began to advance forward, chasing the fleeing Mavedonians back into the streets of Iolycras. Theseus jumped out of his vehicle and joined the men. A cry of victory ensued. The Mavedonians were now back to the outskirts of the city, and Iolycras would soon be completely secured by the rebels.

April 13th
Olera Mountain Base

Following the victory at Iolycras the next major goal was to secure Ekonos. The city of Ekonos was the largest in Ikona, with a total population of around 170,000 people. The city's importance was more symbolical than strategic. Many of the rebel soldiers had families living in Ekonos and freeing them under the banner of the People's Republic would boost morale in the rebel ranks greatly.

There was one huge obstacle in the way of taking Ekonos, though. It was where the majority of the Mavedonian brigades were stationed. Taking the city would be extremely difficult, but Lycomedes Manolis had a plan.

"To launch a full offensive on the city of Ekonos would basically be suicide," began Manolis. He spoke to a group of 10 or so officers in the middle of the base, pointing at a map of Ekonos and the surrounding area. Their faces were lit by a campfire nearby. "Our forces would be decimated by Mavedonian soldiers. We must remember in every combat situation that our men are mostly civilians with guns and theirs are professional soldiers. The key to defeating Mavedonian forces is not to defeat them during battle, but rather defeat them by dictating what kinds of battles we fight. Our success in Iolycras has come from the support of the civilians and from smart ambushes. Fear must be our most valued weapon, followed by the valor of our men, and then our rifles.

Now, taking Ekonos will take a long time and will likely be very bloody for our side, although in the end the benefits of securing that city are infinite. My goal is to implant soldiers into the city and recruit more from the local population. If we keep sending men and arming the population, soon we will have a significant force implanted within the city. We wait for Mavedonian soldiers to move out to other parts of the island and then strike from inside, ambushing the remaining Mavedonian soldiers and using the support of the people to our advantage." Manolis stopped. After a long pause, many of the officers around him nodded in agreement. Manolis smiled. "Anyone not in favor of the plan, speak now." The base remained silent.

3km from Tomyrian, North Ikona
The 3 major commanders of the Tobiasian 9th Army sat around the wooden table in the centre of the operations room. Field Marshall Douglas Benroff began to speak, “reconnaissance aircraft have revealed our communist comrades to the east in difficultly. As we all know, the security cabinet have ordered us to Ikona with the intent of supporting them, and my associates believe the best support would be to open up a second front on the island. Any objections to this first of all?” No-one raised a hand, so Benroff continued. “My sources have suggested Tomyrian, on the northern coast, to which we are closest. The attack will, with the permission of you two and the security cabinet, take place in 2 hours exactly. 2,000 paratroopers will take down the infrastructure of the city, capturing the police station, transport and communication lines, followed by an intense aerial bombardment with low-payload missiles and a cruise missile attack onto the nearest military bases. Then the main force of 13,000 troops will take over the city (if all goes to plan). Do we have authorisation?”

The generals nodded, before saluting and leaving the room, onto the deck of the TNS Jubilant, the 4th fleet’s flagship aircraft carrier. Above them, TA91-4 marine warfare aircraft scanned the seas for submarines, and several air tankers in support.

To the right of the Jubilant was the TNS Vendetta, a missile destroyer having seen action across the globe from Wariztan to Zelphosia. Below decks the missiles were put in place, and all around the ship, as far as the eye could see, were Tobiasian vessels: destroyers, frigates, helicopter carriers, submarines, amphibious attack carriers, troop carriers and corvettes. This would be the biggest deployment of Tobiasian troops in a foreign land since Western Sammarin during the Great War, and it could be one of the most dangerous.

“Captain”, Lieutenant Alyssa Dawn began, “Intelligence says that the rebels are mostly in the western and eastern portions of the city, with a number in the center.”

“Understood,” Captain Max “Madman” Eæst replied. “We are going to attack the western section as it’s the closest to our allies. Squads 2, 4, and 6 on me.”

15 F/A-30 Lagrels led by Captain Eæst began to strike the rebels in the western portion of Iolcyras

Tomyrian, Ikora
Private Matt Desmondson sat tapping his Valkiri rifle in the hold of the transport aircraft. The countdown began: 3...2...1...GO! Exclaimed the loudspeaker. With a run and jump he launched himself into the sky. Through the glass of his visor he saw the landscape of the city laid out before him like a painting, and with a tug he ejected his parachute.

All around him, thousands of other parachuters fluttered down. They landed on the roofs and streets all across the city. Desmondson’s group went straight for the central train station near the harbour. As they dropped he landed on the roof of the historic building. He hooked himself onto the gutter and winched himself down into the main station building. A confused Mavredonain soldier turned in surprise, but was hit in the back by a silenced bullet. Three others at the entrances also fell. In shock the few gathered commuters began to run.

Sporadic shooting began to break out across the city as the Marvedonians realised the attack. Over on the docks and beaches, heavy transports were coming in fast, loaded with soldiers. Within just an hour, the city of 15,000 people had fallen. In a few large fields to the east, engineers have begun the construction of a large base complete with a runway to accommodate bombers to be used in the war.

OOC: Mavedons user informed me the city could be smoothly and quickly taken by TG, this isn’t just me godmodding

Dioscene

General Liakos sat in the same room along with many other Mavedonian officers. He flipped through the TV channels, stopping at the Mavedon News Network.

"It has been confirmed that soldiers from Tobiasia have taken control of the Ikonan town and have inflicted heavy casualties on Mavedonian soldiers. Various sources report anywhere from 1000-30,000 Tobiasan men have taken control of the town and the surrounding area although non of these estimates can be confirmed. It is likely that this will result in the spl-"

The general turned the TV off, and swung around in his chair. "The loss of Tomyrian is a serious blow to our operations here in Ikona," he said, keeping a grim look on his face. "This has effectively split the northern half of the island in two. Our success in Iolycras will be short lived if we cannot either take back Tomyrian, keep control of the southern roads, or do both. What is the situation in the west?" asked the general, turning to another man at the table.

"The intersection between Despiae, Byllamos, and Tomyrian is completely secure. The three towns are also prepared for any possible assault."

"Good," said the general. "The security of these three towns must be our utmost priority, along with Dioscene. Order our men in Iolycras to begin to push into the city and coordinate with our Thermodolian allies."

Grand Temple of the People, Santnagar, UPR

An agent knocked on the broad door of the 4 star general of the People's Liberation Army, carrying a file. "Come on in" he stated resonded, "Not like I have nothing else to do". The agent, indifferent, laid down the file on the table. The general opened it up, details on a new rebellion, bold and large letters shone in his eyes, WORKERS REVOLUTION IN IKONA, his face shot up with exictment, but in him was a feeling of dread, peaceminded party members could destroy the rebellion and allow the reactionary forces to win, he vowed to not let this happen. The officer saluted the general and walked out. He got his glasses on and studied the briefing.

Finally he called up the leader of the People's Intelligence Directorate, to start sending supplies to the rebels, and train them. He wanted to send 1000 troops to prepare for, before sending in the PAL to Ikona. No other officials were called.

Office of the People's Intelligence Directorate

Arjun was working, typing up an intelligence report over the sitution in Ikona. The Directorate had become very interested in it recently, and officers were instructed to learn as much about it as possible. He received a text from the High Office to come there. He walked to the Office. "So, Arjun, you got a promotion" the officer smiling. "The General is looking for someone to man the operations in Ikona, and he picked you. You will get your own private office, but will have to travel"

Arjun gleefully accepted the offer and prepared for the operation. The Raj would now walk into Ikona, would it succeed?

Operation Panther
In the skies above Central Iolcyras

“All right boys. We need to push into the center of the city to help our allies” Lieutenant Avery Wilson said.

“Yes ma’am” came the reply from the 8 other fighter jets

“Follow me. Fly low, fly fast, and shoot everything.”

9 F/A-30 Lagrels came in speeding in low into the center of the town. Dropping ordinance and shooting at rebel encampments in the center of the city.

Operation Panther
Thermodolian Naval Blockade of Iolcyras
TNS Aślon

“Sir,” an officer said while saluting Capitan John Sæn, “Fleet Admiral Tan has ordered us to fire missiles on eastern side of Iolcyras. He also want us to fire the missiles at the Tobiasians in Tomyrian”

“How many does he want?”

“20 on Iolcyras and 50 on Tomyrian”

“Very well then. I want 10 Lancer missiles to hit the roads just to the north of Iolcyras and I want 10 to hit the roads just to the east of the town. Then I want our 50 Lancer missiles to strike any troop emplacements around the city and anything that could be used to their advantage. Such as roads, factories, that sort of thing” Capitan Sæn said. “Understood?”

“Yes sir!”

“Good. Fire the missiles!”

From the missile tubes of the arsenal ship rose 70 Lancer missiles, each containing 450kg of high grade explosives. 50 of the missiles rocketed over Iolcyras towards Tomyrain while 10 missiles rained down on the northern roads of the town and 10 did the same to the eastern roads. These missiles would deal a lot of damage and effectively cut Iolcyras off from the rest of the island.

Tomyrian, Tobiasian Occupation Zone
The sun was emerging it’s way from the clouds as Field Marshall Benroff finished off his inspection of the 32nd Infantry Brigade. The soldiers in camouflage gear saluted Benroff, before filing out into the Tomyrian police station, now repurposed as a barracks.

Above them, however, 50 Thermodolian missiles were heading straight for the occupied city. With a roar they ripped into buildings across the city. Houses disappeared into rubble, soldiers and citizens alike were caught in the streets unprotected. Within minutes, smoke was rising from the city and hundreds were dead.

“The attack has begun!” Screamed Benroff, striding across the operations room of the new base. They will come from the southern road or the east. “I want everything we’ve got put up on those roads: landmines, artillery, anti-tank missiles, everything!”

Hours later, on the southern road troops began the operation. Bunkers were started, dugouts built, landmines and wire laid and artillery pieces put facing the road from obscured positions. Around the road too, for miles across even more defences were set up. At all the houses between the Marvedonians and Tomyrian, snipers lay in wait, and they were all booby-trapped.

Overhead, stealth reconnaissance aircraft flew high over the enemy line, and attack crews prepared for an overnight bombing of the front.

Iolycras

Theseus and his men sprinted through the city streets at the bombs unleashed their deadly payloads all around them. Buildings were reduced to rubble in almost an instant as the Thermodolian aircraft continued their attack on the city. Along with the air assault came the missile barrage from their naval assets, causing equal if not greater destruction to the fleeing men. The Thermodolian attack along with the subsequent Mavedonian advance meant that staying in the city was a death trap- the rebels had to fall back from Iolycras if they wished to live to fight another day.

Although Iolycras may have been lost, advances in Tomyrian could not be ignored and posed a huge threat to the Mavedonians and their allies. The opening of a front in northern Ikona meant Mavedonian troops would become spread thin. The attacking Tobiasons were also no pushover, not to mention they had deployed a sizeable force to assist the Ikonan rebels in their war for independence. Although Iolycras may have been lost, things were looking in favor of the rebels at the moment.

OOC: Sorry for the short post, I have little time ATM. Will write some more later tonight.

The Proleterian Dictatorship to Begin Humanitarian Airlifts to the Island of Ikona

The Democratic Peoples Republic of Kelvinsi under the wise and insightful guidance of the Eternal President of the Republic will soon begin humanitarian airlifts to aid the beleaguered people of Ikona. The Peoples Republic would like to state that it is unwilling to pursue military solutions as of it. However, the dear and wonderful Supreme Leader of the Peoples Politburo of Peace, Co-Prosperity, and Mutual Friendship has said that they are willing to broker a solution to the conflict in a peaceful and amicable manner. Furthermore, in a demonstration of the Glorious Revolutionary Union's solidarity and desire for peace and mutual prosperity among all citizens of the world, the country shall officially be sending humanitarian airlifts to the Island of Ikona. The first airlift is to begin tomorrow and shall last 10 days with 40 of the 50 Il-76s that will partake in the air raid inspected by the World Assembly and declared as legitimate airlift vehicles. The other 10 vehicles due to a prior accident were unable to be present for inspection due to regularly scheduled maintenance. The Eternal President has made this statement. 20 of the large planes will be bound for government-controlled areas, while another 30 of the large planes will be bound for rebel-controlled areas.

It is the duty of the Peoples Republic to spread the revolution through kindness and benevolence, not violence and weapons. It is only with kindness and humanity that the socialist revolution can stand.

-The Dear Eternal President, Hero of Borkensov, Savior of the Fatherland, Supreme Soldier of the Red Army, Chancellor of the High Peoples Congress, Hero of Borkensov, Dean of the Kelvish Way to Socialism, Honorary Eternal Mayor of Kresden, and First Citizen of the Republic.

The humanitarian airlift will be for exclusively that purpose. However, for the purposes of the protection of the airlift, fighters will be sent as protection for the airlift, these airplanes will be armed exclusively with air to air weapons, and will only engage enemy forces if fired upon. The shooting down of any of these humanitarian convoys will be tantamount to war against the Peoples Republic says the Supreme Diplomat of the Republic.

CONGRESS APPROVES POLICE ACTION IN IKONA
4K soldiers confirmed for deployment
Image
One of four (4) MBTs commited to the action

VIRIBUS, APRIL 15 2018--After several days of deliberation, Spokesperson Blume of the Congress announced that the legislature has voted for intervention in the conflict in Ikona. The final vote count in the Senate is 59 YAY--41 NAY, contrasted to the more united House vote of 699 YAY and 1 abstention. You can see what your representatives voted for here.

The Congress has passed authority over the operation to the top brass, who has confirmed that approximately 4,000 soldiers will deployed, along with a small armor division consisting of four (4) M1 Abrams main battle tanks. The military refuses to provide further details at this time due to security concerns.

Spokesperson Blume emphasizes that "Apikai is not at war--this is a purely volunteer force that will be immediately withdrawn in the event of significant casualties. We are helping to topple an oppressive regime."

Nonetheless, critics say that the action is a distraction from the resignation of President Snow and a poor attempt at projecting influence.

Semopeion

Manolis rode through the city of Semopeion in the back of the small armored sedan. The town of around 50,000 citizens had been left stranded and unprotected by the Mavedonian military, leaving it susceptible to the rebels. His forces were able to stroll into the city unharmed as the local police had joined his ranks. As the rebel soldiers poured into the city the local population burst into celebration. Citizens working in local manufacturing facilities began to produce flags for the new People's Republic and distributing them among the local population and the ranks of the rebel army. The city streets were draped in the white and red flag of Ikona. Despite the ongoing festivities, this was no time for Manolis to sit back and relax. His rebellion was still young, and was at extreme risk of falling apart due to Thermodolian airstrikes in Iolycras. Much of the small town had already been recaptured by Mavedonian forces.

Manolis was taken to a small house in the city. He exited the car and went inside, finding a dimly lit room with a handful of officers sitting around a wooden table. "Gentlemen," said Manolis, addressing the men with a nod. He took his place in an empty seat at the table.

One of the officers cleared his throat and began to speak. "East Apikai has reached out to us and sent a message detailing their support," said the officer, sliding a document to Manolis. "They are sending a force of around 4000 men to assist us."

Manolis looked over the document for a moment, and then set it back down. "Very good. Send a message back immediately and inform them that we are losing ground quickly in Iolycras." The officer nodded and left the room. "Golias, I need you to set up a recruiting center in the city. Meet the mayor at the capital building in 30 minutes. He has informed me that he can assist you in finding the right facility to use and in advertising to potential recruits. I need the rest of you to prepare to move out and occupy the rest of the land east of Iolycras. You each know your assignments- ensure that Taureze and all of the surrounding villages are under our control. We will begin the operation tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 PM. Our sources report that there is no Mavedonian presence on this side of the island east of Iolycras, but make sure you proceed with caution anyways. Our sources in Taureze have been spotty over the last few days, I suspect that they may not be on our side and are agents of Mavedon.

It is imperative that after taking each town and village we set up recruiting centers in each one. Guerrilla warfare is very taxing in terms of manpower- I'm sure you're all aware of the losses we have sustained. Despite foreign intervention I believe that the heaviest fighting will be done by the people of Ikona. We must not only ensure that our numbers are replenished, but that they grow as well, as the Mavedonians and their allies are sending more troops to the island as we speak. Every man counts, and as a result so does every village. Make sure each one of them has a recruiting center. Am I understood?"

The officers at the table each nodded their heads. "Good. You are dismissed," finished Manolis.

The Situation Room underneath the Presidential Office Building in Viribus

As soon as the reply message was received, it was transferred to the waiting generals looking over political maps and satellite images of Ikona. Not from their own satellites, mind--they had none, and with the current chaos among the political establishment with the emergency election, a space program would have to wait, military or otherwise. No, these were from a map app.

There were two generals looking over the map for now, a very old man and a middle-aged woman. When the message appeared on their phones, the woman sighed. "That's what I was afraid of. We're a volunteer force, not prepared for urban warfare."

The man looked over the map, stroking a scruffy white beard. "We won't need to do as much on our own, remember. This is a volunteer force, support. We mostly need to make way for the rebels."

"So you suggest a search and destroy mission?"

"Yes, General West, that is exactly what I suggest." He pointed at Ekonos. "We'll make a setup. We make them think our forces are to land here, at Ekonos, which will force them to divert at least some of their forces down the road to counter it. Then, we'll land in the rebel controlled area and lead the charge with our tanks."

The woman raised an eyebrow. "Assuming they fall for the ruse. It's an old trick, they might suspect it."

The man considered this. "...Have some of the transport plane escorts do a quick sortie over the city as they pull out. Nothing fancy, just a quick hit-and-run with minimal casualties. They'll probably interpret it as recon gathering."

The woman nodded. "Sounds good to me, I'll make the calls."

In recognition of the longstanding oppression of the workers of Ikona by the Mavedonian junta, and recalling the inalienable right to self-government of all peoples, the Presidium and Central Committee of New England approve the following:

1. To IMMEDIATELY extend full diplomatic recognition to the People's Republic of Ikona as the legitimate government of Ikona.
2. To name COMRADE JAMIE LEE WATERS as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the People's Republic of Ikona, pending approval by the Ikonan government.
3. To invite the People's Republic of Ikona to appoint an ambassador of their to the Commonwealth of New England, and to establish an embassy in Boston.
4. To dispatch a military expedition to aid the People's Republic of Ikona.
5. To DEMAND that the Mavedonian government withdraw all military forces from Ikonan territory and recognize the independence of the People's Republic of Ikona.

Operation Panther
Thermodolian Naval Blockade of Iolcyras
Command Room of TNS Wilson Day

“Sir Intelligence has found that the Tobiasian Naval forces consist of 1 aircraft, 2 destroyers, 4 corvettes, and 10 transports. Intelligence has also intercepted a transmission from East Apikai, according to TMID the transmission is most like a ruse due to how easy it was intercept and decode it.”

“What did the transmission say?”, General Gorge Thæn asked.

“The transmission said; ‘All divisions are to land 100 kilometers north of Ekonos and push south down the road to make way for rebel forces. Air recon will be available shortly after landing.’ Intel believes that this message is most definitely a ruse.”

“What do you think Sir?”

Admiral Tan who had been sitting in silence listening finally spoke up. “Absolutely nothing, that’s what we are going to do. Ignore the information and pass on our assumptions to our allies. Hold the line.”

“Understood Sir.” The Intelligence Officer snapped of a salute and walked out of the room.

“Now,” the Admiral began again, “I want to land our 2,000 Marines and 15 tanks in Iolcyras. I want the helicopters and UAVs to provide air support.”

“How many helicopters and UAVs?” The general asked

“I want 25 helicopters and 15 UAVs. But first we are going to soften up the harbor with our air forces. Understood?”

The officers nodded in agreement.

“Good. Now for that Tobiasian fleet. I want all of our submarines to attack the fleet as the subs are attacking the fleet we will fire on the fleet with 80 Lancer missiles. Understood? Good. You are all dismissed.”

Edge of the port of Iolcyras
TNS Guardian

Lance Corporal John Alston sat in the RHIB with the rest of his unit. His platoon was all around him, all in the rear well deck of the TNS Guardian. He had heard that the helicopters and UAVs had already launched. Soon they would too.

Moments after he thought that a voice shouted out “this is it boys get ready!” As those words where spoken the rear hatch opened up and water began to fill the deck, once the water was high enough the RHIBs began to move out from the ship towards the city.

Operation Panther
Off the coast of Tomyrian
Command Room of TNS Destiny

“Ma’am we are within range!”

“Thank you Lieutenant.” The lieutenant saluted and walked out.
“All hands this is Commander Alex Rœth, battlestaitions! Capitans fire torpedos and Lancer missiles!”

As the commander said that 40 torpedos launched towards the Tobiasian Carrier and corvettes, while the 80 Lancer missiles burst out of their tubes flying towards the Tobiasian destroyers and transports

NES Cthulhu
Open Ocean

Rear Admiral Terrence Hawthorne examined the plot. The arrival of the Thermodolian fleet was a major problem. Even without that carrier, intelligence estimated their strength to be twice his.

Fortunately, they were already engaged with the Tobiasan fleet, which gave him an opening. He directed Hydra, Squanto, Bangor, Worcester, and the transports to move on Semopeion. If he couldn't break the blockade of Iolcyras, he could at least take another port and link up with the Ikonans.

But he was going to give Iolcyras a shot.

Waters South of Iolcyras
~2,000 feet underwater
The submarines Miskatonic, Harvard, and Dartmouth crept stealthily through the thermals. At this depth, sonar was limited, but they would also be nearly impossible to locate. And they weren't tracking a single target, but an entire fleet. All they needed to do was get close...

A faint sonar signal, one ping, flashed from Harvard. The subs stopped, drifting forward on inertia. Each captain carefully watched the clock... waiting... waiting...

In the skies above, 30 Harpoon cruise missiles screamed through the skies. Launched from Cthulhu and her escorting frigates, they were targeted on the destroyers escorting the Thermodolian carrier. At the prearranged moment, the New English submarines let loose their own payload. Six torpedoes now streaked towards TNS Wilson Day...

(OOC: the New English submarines (all Miskatonic-class) are roughly equivalent to OTL American Seawolves)
