CEASEFIRE DECLARED; PEACE ON THE HORIZON?

ILGRAVIA, VEDOKTARIA -- The 18-month internal conflict in the Vedoktarian peninsula has ended, official sources say, with an unconditional ceasefire declared by separatist elements in the nation's eastern region. A statement released by the nation's Ministry of Defence this morning has revealed that rebel groups have agreed to lay down their arms and submit to government authority after the bloody episode which many outside observers have labeled a civil war.

The Vedoktarian government has consistently branded the conflict as a "stabilization effort" in which security forces have been deployed to pacify the contested region. The conflict has been destructive and bloody; nearly 5,000 soldiers and civilians have lost their lives, and many thousands more have been wounded or displaced by the fighting. Both sides have been accused by observers of human rights violations and war crimes; international press coverage has been severely restricted and censored by elements of the Vedoktarian government for "security purposes."

"It is hoped that this is the first step in a long path to peace," Vedoktarian General Secretary Ilyich Serkariakov said today in a press conference, "The dear price of the stabilization effort has been paid by our security forces and our civilians. We must begin the process of reconstruction and the normalization of political relations in the troubled areas."

The conflict's effects have destabilized the nation's economy; with many civilians without basic needs, such as running water, access to food, lack of medical care and safe shelter. General Secretary Serkariakov has vowed to use troops to provide humanitarian efforts to the best of their abilities but noted that the process is "ongoing" and the needs of the people throughout the country are "extensive."

The Tovakian AIr Force's Air Mobility Command has allocated 10 IL-76's for humanitarian aid transport to the nation of Vedoktaria.

The Sixth Administration and the Asian People extend their support for Vedoktaria and their ongoing economic strife. Exportation and Importation of trade has been subsidised to aid the struggling socio-economic condition of the Vedoktarians. The States promise that Humanitarian Aid and assistance is on its way to provide service. Whilst neoconservatives remain bullish on this act of benevolent compassion to the foreign country, liberals are positive that this effort will mold a new opportunity to revitalize the dying reputation of the States to the world.

Alfred Schmieder's office felt at times more like a cave then a government office. Deep in the brutalist structure that housed the foreign services. In the dim light of a single lamp, Schmieder sat hunched over his desk processing foreign documents day in and day out. He had picked up smoking, just to get some fresh air. It was as the clerk was returning from the small courtyard where he smoked, that he found the summons waiting for him. The Secretary to the Deputy Minister was waiting for him. Curious, Alfred climbed the stairs to the 5th flour. The receptionist pointed him to the office at the end of the hall, a corner office with two large windows.

"You'll have to wait" she said, her accent only slightly betrayed her provincial upbringing. "He is on the phone, discussing party matters."

Schmieder, as a civil servant, was of course part of the party, but only knew enough to know that it was safer not to know. Little did he realize that this party matter would effect him in a very personal way.

Secretary Schülz, was notified of Schmieder's arrival as soon as finished his phone call. He promptly called the clerk in. The two had met before, but only in passing. The Secretary obviously did not remember, and reintroduced himself.

"I have a special assignment for you, we are sending a delegation to Vedoktaria, led by Raffael Ludwigs. Your language skills qualify you to assist on the team. I want you to prepare to depart later this week. Mr. Ludwigs will get in touch with you shortly. Keep this hush hush until then."

Schmieder's face must have show his surprise, because Schülz offered some comforting words and implied it was a promotion, before dismissing the clerk. On his way back to his office, Albert processed his thoughts. To leave his cave of an office, it had to be an improvement, right? He thought to himself.

The Fusonese Government expressed it's concerns in regards to the "bloody" aftermath of the civil war in the nation of Vedoktaria. We saw how the events unfold from the eyes of the media, observers, as well as those who saw refugee in distant, neighboring countries caused by this conflict. In light of this, we would like to assist your nation in needs of humanitarian relief efforts, which also extends to a medium but growing funding in efforts of reconstruction in your nation's regions devastated by the conflict. This of course means that we will deploy peacekeeping troops in the region, which certainly would amount to only by deploying a company sized, volunteer only sanctioned personnel. The National Diet passed this resolution in assisting your country, as the passing times oversaw significant amount of nations torn down by internal struggles, and that we refuse to allow things to collapse by letting ourselves sit and watch things unfold while the world falls into turmoil.

Our initial delivery of humanitarian goods will come ahead of schedule, but the request of sending peacekeeping troops and other essential personnel in assisting to get much of your nation back on it's feet requires your permission. We await your response for a better future for your nation and her people.

After a great debate between the hawks and doves in the house, The 10th Airborne Division has been given the permission to deploy (in the name of keeping the peace) to Vedoktaria. In the next 24 hours, The 10th airborne will have full control of the major cities and airports, any resistance will be met with overwhelming force. While this may not be the most popular move we in Grater Tovakia believe that this is necessary to keep the peace.

President Heinrich Vöjhm of the Republic of West-Syrian sat on his office, doing nothing, saying nothing. Suddenly the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Willy Eneger knocked on his door, Heinrich Vöjhm followed suit and opened the door.

“What is it?” Mr. Vöjhm asked.

Mr. Eneger responded “May Nations have commenced humanitarian aid too the nation of Vedoktaria, which has just recently got out of a civil war but is still very fragile and broken due too it just being a cease fire instead of a regular treaty.

“...Let’s send help, mainly building resources and nurses. Maybe we could become a more prominent nation in Arabia if we decide too do this.” Mr. Vöjhm said.

The Goverment will announce that we will supply Vedoktaria with Humanitarian Aid. Vedoktaria has recently broke off from a bloody civil war but is still in turmoil.

These supplies would be delivered by Imperial Air Force heavy lift transports. We are also prepared to dispatch one of the Imperial Navy’s hospital ships, INV Hope, to provide medical assistance to those in need.

The Republic of Leprach is deeply concerned about the internal conflict between security forces and militant groups in Vedoktaria that left number of people displaced, buildings and essential services damaged, and livelihoods jeopardised.

To respond to the growing needs and deteriorating humanitarian situation in Vedoktaria, the government of Leprach agreed to offer urgent humanitarian assistance that shall provide emergency food, medical supplies, hygiene kits and psycho-social support. The assistance helps to improve the living conditions, re-establish livelihoods, increase institutional capacity, stimulate economic growth and meet humanitarian needs.

The Government of Leprach also welcomed the ceasefire in Vedoktaria and strongly supports the efforts by world leaders in providing the humanitarian relief efforts to Vedtoria.
