Morning, 1/8/1869

The port city of Kanton was originally a small village inhabited by the native Polynesians. Victoresian explorers have colonized the land in 1488, and massacred the population and brought diseases. The survivors have fled to the nearby dense jungle. The area was resettled when the Victoresians left in 1579, and it soon grew to be larger than it was at first. Several hundred years later, when Furby Island was settled by the Dutch, and later British, the islands surrounding the main one were left alone, and the natives have worked peacefully. When Furby Island became independent in 1805, the village was left alone. But soon, in the 1820s and '30s, the village's strategically important location made it a great stop for ships heading to and from the mainland. The village grew into a large city. In 1842, Furbish forces took over the city. It became the Kanton City-Province, which would last until getting absorbed by Zuidoostelijketerritoria in 1886.

The port of Kanton was busy as usual on the day of August first, 1869. The port was very large, with docks almost stretching as far as the coasts of the city. As ships left their piers, other ships would quickly replace them, unload their cargo, and leave to make room for more ships. The city was not very large compared the the size of the port, but its architecture showed how quickly the people adapt to new styles. All ships had one thing in common, they were all steamers, being propelled by burning coal boiling water, turning large wheels or propellers. They ranged in size from small ships which carried goods or messages to the mainland, to large ships which carried goods to and from Europe or North America. The ships carried anything from an assortment of cargo, including fish, coal, tea, or other goods, to passengers heading to and from the mainland or other continents, to news from other locations.

Deeper in the city, stood a garrison with several Fusilierbataljons, or fusilier battalions. They were stationed to prevent attacks from Polynesians living in the jungles of the island. Attacks are frequent, but most consist of small bands going on supply raids. However, there are sometimes larger uprisings, which happen every few years. To easily deal with them, the garrison is equipped with some of the most modern weaponry available, including the FG-R2 lever action rifle, Gatling guns, and more powerful cannons. The rest of the army is also being armed with these weapons, and are training on how to use them.

In the morning, ships were moving into and leaving the harbor. There was one ship that entered, that had the Furbish naval jack at half mast, which was relatively unusual. Judging by the ship's direction, it came from a far away location, not anywhere else from Furby Island. By it's size, it shouldn't have come from too far away. It would more likely have come from the Empire of Nevi Seleste, known by most as Victores. Victores was once a powerful empire, which even colonized the island where Kanton is. But it was on the brink of collapse, after many wars with European nations.

The ship docked to the harbor. The deck of the ship seemed crowded, with people trying to get off. A longshoreman walked by, about to ask how much tobacco they need, when many people rushed off the ship. Several asked for directions to Sagala, Uluto, and other Furbish cities, and he pointed them all to a train station. The train went straight to Sagala, where a ferry would take them to Uluto. One person then came, holding a letter, and asked for directions to the Kanton telegram office. He was shown the way, and left in a hurry.

After the people cleared, everything went back to normal.

A telegram has just been sent to the telegram office in Sagala. The building was a small building near the Sagala harbor. It didn't need to be large, it really only received and sent telegrams to and from a few cities in Zuidoostelijketerritoria, and one city in the mainland. To the telegram operators, the morning of the first of August in 1869 seemed normal.

Until the telegram arrived. It was labelled urgent. Only the first part was supposed to be seen by the operators, saying where the telegram was supposed to go and the priority. But to Lewis Murphy, who saw the telegram, it was different. He was curious to see what was inside. He looked at the light flashes, copied the Morse code, and translated the whole telegram.

At that point Murphy thought he knew what it was about. Recently, some Furbish citizens would buy tobacco, and sell it at inflated prices in the nearby nation of Victores. It was condemned by the government, and most people, but some, mostly the poor, did it to make some money quickly. It was a very lucrative business, but it seemed just as morally questionable as slavery. Also, other people went to Victoresian ports to sell things to the Furbish, and they too often did at inflated prices. The tobacco trading has made many people wealthy, but the poor would often gain little to no money due to the overpriced goods. Murphy knew the tobacco traders would get into some trouble eventually.

Governor Nuen of Nevi Seleste executed Furbish citizens.
There was no trial.

At this point Murphy was shocked. He expected something to happen, but not that. The telegram was en route to Furby city, and soon the rest of the country will hear the news. He decided to respect what the telegram said and send it to Furby City only.

Meeting of the Privy Council
Sencho
July 12th, 1869

Twelve men sat around a vast room inside the equally massive Imperial Palace. The Imperial Palace was once one of the largest buildings in the world, though it had been surpassed by many European buildings. Most of the men looked tired and disheveled. In front of them sat a young teenager, by appearance around 15. He was clad in a long golden robe and wore an elaborate gold and feather crown decorated with the finest diamonds, lapis, and other gemstones from across the Victoresian Empire. In a long ago time the Victoresian Empire was so wealthy, every single governor and magistrate could have one. However the Victoresian Imperial power had waned since the glory days of the 16th Century. The Europeans had been harassing Victores since the old days. The Spanish were the first enough to try, they were handed a humiliating defeat by the elite Victoresian army. The Portuguese were likewise repulsed. Indeed, the name Victores itself came from the ferocity the Iberians had encountered amongst the Victoresian military. The Empire held off the foreign invaders for two centuries. It wasn’t until the 18th century when the British cracked open the Victoresian Empire and opened its ports to Western trade. The resentful Victoresian Empire backed the French during the Napoleonic Wars, allowing them access to Victoresian ports. Many Victoresian officials now dreamed of those days. The state of society today was at best an insult to the Empire of Jizva the Great.

“Your Holiness, the governor of Tyrpril reports that the harvest there has failed. The Central Planners failed to account for the drought, and the rice all died. At least 100,000 farmers are facing starvation, as are many great cities. Your Majesty, what is to be done”, reported a man wearing a silver robe lined in gold with a small hat.

“I don’t care. As long as I have fowl and wine, the damn peasants can burn. I am the Emperor, I am the one Chosen by Yvloi. If things are really so bad, I’m sure Yvloi would intervene” said the Emperor.

“Your Holiness, we must act now. Your Uncle, the governor of Erpril. He has declared himself the King of Kings in direct opposition to us, and unlike us, his people are not starving. If we do not act, then soon he will be the Emperor, not you. We need an alternative to the Tahnat(Victoresian pony express), the horses are dying of a plague the White men brought”

“Enough, I declare this meeting adjourned.” shouted the Emperor

The procession of officials rushed through the vast doors, decorated with scenes of the Victoresian victory over many of the former nations that existed on the continent.

Noon, 1/8/1869

Parliament was now in session, debating various bills. The parliament building was a large grand structure, with elaborate marble columns and and walls, large open spaces, rooms for many offices, and a central chamber. Parliament at this time had exactly three hundred, but the chamber had room for over five hundred. Over the years, as parliament grew, the chamber did not expand, but only a second floor was added. And looking at the building, it could have easily been mistaken for a royal palace.

One aide walked in, and came to one MP, and then he stood up, and both walked out. The speaker of parliament, who at the time was Daley Walsh, did not notice them. The speaker had a limited role anyway. The speaker was always a member who was appointed by the prime minister to mediate the debate, but only intervene when necessary. But in practice, he only participated in the debate, but never intervened in other conversations.

The person who left was a man by the name of Sebastian Dawson. He walked out of the chamber, into the long hallways, and into his office. The aide said some urgent news has come from Victores. Another aide brought a telegram. It has said of Furbish citizens being executed in Victores for selling tobacco. Seeing this, Dawson was angry. While what has happened was immoral, but killing anyone who was a little involved? Even if it wasn't against Furbish law? Dawson believed the Victoresians need to pay. He walked back into the chamber, and he would make sure everyone heard him.

MP(1): "In conclusion, I believe that we-"

Dawson: "I have some ur-"

MP(1): "Excuse me, can you not interrupt?"

Dawson: "No, what I have to say is more important."

MP(1): "No, you will let me finish talking first, and then you could speak."

Dawson: "You have been speaking for HOURS."

MP(1): "No, it was only a few minutes. Please let me finish."

Dawson: "I HAVE VERY URGENT NEWS ALL OF YOU MUST HEAR!"

MP(1): "I will finish my speech."

Dawson: "In Victores-"

MP(1): "WOULD YOU SHUT UP ALREADY?"

Dawson: "I will say what I have to say first"

MP(1): "I do support the motion, and believe we shall vote."

Walsh: "Alright. All in favor,"

Dawson: Sigh

. . .

Walsh: "Now that we have voted, say what you have been wanting to say." Points at Dawson

Dawson: "Finally. I have some urgent news from Navi Selesete, Victores. Several Furbish citizens got executed there, for simply being slightly involved in the tobacco trade. They were not given a trial. I believe we must punish them, and go to war."

Those few sentences suddenly cause arguments within parliament. People get up and scream about the morality and ethics, if the Victoresians were just in their actions, and if war was the correct response. Several fistfights broke out, and Walsh was standing in the center wishing he wasn't the one chosen for the jop.

Walsh: "ORDER! EVERYONE PLEASE SETTLE DOWN!"

Lambert: "I believe the idea of going to war is too extreme. This is only a governor. We should send a letter to the emperor asking him to make the governor stop. War is not the answer."

Meeting of the Privy Council
Sencho
July 23rd, 1869

"Your Holiness, a messanger from the governor of Nevi Seleste. He reports that he has executed some We'ertzh Merchants for dealing the poisonous plant amongst our people. He asks for permission to execute even more of these devils" said a man dressed in a black robe and a headress decorated with eagle feathers.
"Tell him to do as he wishes. I could care less about -" the Emperor suddenly slumped over.
As his privy council looked in shock, the Emperor began snoring. He had clearly been drinking heavily for a few months after discovering a taste for foreign liquor. The Imperial Chamberlain quickly rushed over towards the Emperor, placing a towel soaked in herbal fluid over his face and caring him staggering out of the chamber to his bedroom.

The rest of the Privy council looked in surprise and disgust. Many of them doubted how much longer the Empire could survive who was as disinterested in ruling as he was obsessed with the pleasures of life. Suddenly the man dressed in the silver robe stood up and walked in front of the Imperial throne.
Standing up straight he proclaimed to the rest of the Privy Council, "It is now clear that our Emperor is but an invalid. From now on, I will take on all of his executive duties when he is incapable of performing them. This is the only way to save the empire, this is the only way to save Victores."
"Is this a coup?" said one of the men dressed in a grey robe.
"You may treat this as a coup or just another day, as you wish. This is purely a matter of point of view of course. If you choose to consider this coup, then feel free to dispose me. See what happens.”
The man quickly sat down in reservation, “so what is to be done?”
“Nothing can be done. In my opinion war with the White men is inevitable. Be it the British or the Furbish. It will come in months not years. There is no longer time for military innovation and that such, must immediately direct our military northward to defend against an attack on the Northern Front. We best send all our most brilliant generals northward.”
“Would it not be unsafe to abandon the South and Sencho itself?” shouted one of the military commissioners sitting amongst the others on the council.
“We must make a sacrifice for the defense of Seleste, the enemy should not attempt to attack targets this far South.”

Morning, 5/8/1869

After many days of debating, only the topic of the situation in Victores, a clear course of action has not been decided. Parliament was clearly divided on the matter and what to do. There was a small minority, about twenty members, who believed the Furbish should simply treat the executions as a warning leave Victores. A few more were neutral. The rest were near evenly divided, on whether to choose peaceful means or go to war. While many issues split parliament among party lines, this was different. Dawson and Lambert were both liberals, and both lead the sides, war and peace respectively.

In the few days of debating, however, both sides agreed to send a strongly worded letter to the Victoresian government. The letter will be sent directly to the emperor, asking him to make the governor stop. On the morning of August 5th, it was approved by a majority vote and will be sent to the emperor on the next ship that will leave Kanton.

After the vote, the letter was to be carried by one courier, by tge name of Frode Beck, who will travel by train to Uluto, by ferry to Sagala, by train to Kanton, and then catch the next ship to Victores. He was supposed to go on one specific ship, known for its fast travel speed. But on the way there, the train left, and the next one will come in an hour. Beck knew the ship would leave by then, so he needed a new option. He went over to the harbor and asked an employee.

Beck: "Excuse me sir, when is the next boat to Uluto?"

Harbor Employee: "Uluto? Well there is one boat that is leaving soon."

Beck: "Good. I need to get there so I can catch another boat to Sagala."

Harbor Employee: "You're going to Kanton, right?"

Beckr: "Yes."

Harbor Employee: "Well a faster route would be to get a ferry directly to Kanton."

Beck: "True. But it is expensive, and I have pre-paid tickets on that route."

Harbor Employee: "You work for the government, right?"

Beck: "Yes, in fact. How did you know?"

Harbor Employee: "Well because who else in their right mind would not choose the most efficient route? Also the ferry to Kanton is leaving in half an hour."

Beck: "So luckily, I do have cash on me. One ticket please."

By nightfall, the ferry had reached Kanton. Beckr got on the next boat to Victores, and would arrive in a little under three weeks. While on the boat, he hoped the letter would make the governor stop. This letter will prevent a war between both nations, surely. The emperor shouldn't be that cruel.

Almost thirty-six hours later, the city of Kanton will see something it has never seen since its first invasion by the Furbish. Beck had missed it, and will never know about it until his arrival back to Kanton almost a month and a half later.

Morning, 7/8/1869

It was almost a week since the ship with a half mast flag arrived, and two days since Beck left with a letter to the Victoresian government. But more and more ships sailed back at half mast. It was already public in the news, what has happened in Victores. The governor of one province began executing Furbish citizens, but that did not deter much people from going. After all, it was a few, out of the many thousands that are there. Kanton officials warned people not to go, and are planning a tariff on tobacco to prevent more trading, but no motion has been passed yet. As long as it is still profitable, people will continue. And if it isn't profitable in Kanton, rival port cities like Lifulau will have an opportunity.

With the port being the most important part of the city, one major thing is often overlooked. The entire city is surrounded by a large stone wall, with soldiers at the wall. There are large cannons, and the best technology available at the time. Any raid would be silenced quickly by the guns, which are enough to scare off many natives by just a few shots. To those who make it past, the soldiers have Gatling guns, and are armed with breach loading lever action rifles. Only once has a group got past the large walls, and that was when they were under construction. It would requite a large group to get past the walls now.

In the morning of the seventh, people in Kanton heard the sound of the cannons going off. It was quite usual, and most ignored the sounds. The cannons would stop soon. But hours later, they were still firing. This could not be the case, any natives should've been scared and run off, or be mowed down by the shots. One soldier then rode from a stable along the wall, and shouted one word, "NATUURLIJKOPSTAND!" Upon hearing the word, the citizens panicked, but didn't leave to hide. No natives could get past the walls. The foreigners didn't know the meaning of the word, and continued whatever they were doing.

Several people traveled around the city warning everyone. Garrisons that weren't on the wall began to mobilize. Currently a few locations were under siege, and they were being dealt with. Natives used anything they can to try to break past the walls, while under constant Furbish fire. The Furbish believed this will take a while to put down, and the natives would give up soon. Most of them had never dealt with a full scale revolt before, and didn't know that those lasted months or years. At the time, nobody knew that the revolt that just began would take ten years to finally put down.

One small boat traveled fast to Matuata. It is a military base, which started off with the same origins as Kanton. It was a native village, that was soon taken over by Furbish forces. Ships were often docked there, soldiers were often trained there, and many years later it would be a place for planes as well. The military officials needed to be notified of the new revolt which sprang up. The generals knew that there were many more people involved than the ones that attacked the wall. And it would take years to make sure they won't attack.

At the wall, native soldiers used some gunpowder weapons including small cannons. Their technology was outdated, but it was surprising they managed to get them. Natives were believed to be primitive savages according to most people at the time. But they had a reason for having gunpowder weapons. A strategy of the Furbish was the conquer territories by turning the native tribes against each other. They were given the knowledge on how to make gunpowder and gunpowder weapons, and they taught it to other tribes when they turned against the Furbish. The gunpowder weapons were still limited, however.

The battle at the wall at first began as a consistent assault on it. Cannons and percussion lock muskets fired at the wall, with some explosives as well. Small dents were made, but not many. The Furbish fired back using every single weapon available. The natives still has smooth bore muskets, and sharpshooters were ineffective. They preferred bows, which didn't do much besides injure anyone. By noon, many dozens of natives law dead, while fifteen Furbish soldiers were lightly wounded.

This was to change, however. During much of those ten years, there will be a continued assault on the wall. But fighting would be taken elsewhere, to the sea. Deep in the jungle, leaders who planned out the revolt has a way of getting past the walls. They would sail by canoe around them, and fight there. Many war canoes were built for this purpose, and would soon be put to use. Initially, the assault on the walls was meant to be a distraction to that, which was the real assault.

Morning, 8/8/1869

It has already been a day since the revolt broke out in the walls of Kanton. Soldiers estimated thousands, maybe tens of thousands, already at the wall, attempting to break through the walls and into the city. Many of the enlisted soldiers believed that the natives sent their entire force at the wall, and the attacks will be over when every one of them is shot. But the more experienced officers knew the natives were smart, and they only sent a small fraction of their force. They will send a new soldier to replace every fallen one, and it will not be easy. But what none of them realized, is that what will happen is a more grimmer than their original predictions. And to the soldiers, staying on the wall was hard, and many wished that they were reserve units. But soon enough, the reserve units will see some action, and many will soon wish they were on the wall.

All forces in Kanton are under Major General Tuur Beumer. He is in charge of one of the four divisions stationed on the island. He is in a house near the wall, seeing the carnage there. It may seem that there are thousands of natives, but he knew their tricks. They try to make it seem there are a lot more of them then there actually is. There is some futile arrows and spears, and then Furbish gunfire and cannons. Several times, a stray one lands behind the wall. But they are rare. Lord Beumer knew this is an uprising that will take years to quell. He hoped that very few natives will participate, so it will be shorter.

Deep in the jungle, there was a small array of huts. The jungle was dotted with many villages, but this was not like the others. It was the established headquarters of the tribes who participated in the uprising. Many tribes on the island were united under Kahurangi, who believed they must violently revolt against their Furbish "oppressors". But he had planned out an approach a lot more complex than attempting to break through the thick stone walls. On the coast, there were many canoes filled with warriors, and on his order, they will attack. Even though the attacks started a day before, he will launch the attack now.

The attack on Kanton will be lead by Temetiu. He has just received the order to begin the attack. He boarded his canoe, and announced to the rest of the soldiers. The attack begins now. They will board, sail to the Gulf of Kanton, land on the city shores, and give the people a hell greater than has happened in the city before. The attack will be brutal, and he knew that. But they have stolen the land that has never been theirs, and they deserve to be punished.

The large array of canoes swam across the ocean, cutting through the waves. The coast was used to navigate, and soon they saw the gulf. Lead by Temetiu, they traveled into the gulf, near one ship. It clearly had come from Victores, with a flag at half mast. Temetiu looked at the crowded deck, saw the people, many looking frightened, others confused. More white devils. He motioned another person at the canoe, who aimed and fired a blow gun into the ship. Seeing the deck, it had to hit someone. The captain anxiously turned the ship away, and someone was shouting in a strange language. Several more shots were fired into the ship, until the canoe was about to make landfall.

At the division headquarters in Kanton, a lookout spotted that with his spyglass. He reported to Beumer, who did not know what to do. Panicked, he sent his entire reserve force, and notified Matuata. Soldiers hastily left their barracks, and fired at the natives with their new FG-R3 breach loading rifles. Soldiers fired, and then reloaded quickly. Their shots were very accurate. They continued firing into the crowd, hoping to take out as much as possible before they begin landfall.

Temetiu was first to set foot on land, followed by others on his canoe, and then came the rest. They charged towards the Furbish formation, while the Furbish fired into them. Spears, blowgun darts, and arrows came flying from one side, while bullets came from the other. Several injuries happened on the Furbish side, none of which serious. On the other, people came falling in their tracks, ignored by the ones behind them who kept relentlessly charging. For the natives, dying in battle was an honor.

Soon, the fighting devolved into close quarters combat. Natives fought with everything they had, while the Furbish fought back with bayonets and sabers. Temetiu was stabbed by one bayonet, and was one of the first to fall. Commanders stood in front of the formation, and therefore were targets for the Furbish swords. Blood stained their green uniforms, but the fighting continued. They slowly retreated, and exhausted soldiers in the front moved back and were replaced by ones in the back lines. But more natives kept coming.

Soon, the Furbish reached a very open area of the city. On order, they moved out of the way. The natives were at first confused, then charged, and then were met by a large cavalry force. Men continued to fight, using every mean imaginable. The Furbish were pushing the natives back, albeit slowly. By nightfall, much of the natives retreated to the coastline, and established a small camp. The Furbish went back to their barracks, but were on high alert and ready to strike within short notice. And at the wall, the situation still has not changed. Matuata responded, and they will bring reinforcements soon.

Eiasocho cleaned his musket that lay on his lap as the sun began sinking beneath the horizon. Word had come from Sencho to move North to defend against a possible European attack against Victores. He drank a gulp of the black Victoresian liquor that had been produced from the nuts of the Asha tree for more than three millenniums. While his colorful uniform and gold-hilted scimitar harkened back to a long gone century, his brown wooden rifle and metal rank symbols were recent introductions. Another piece of modernity was the small book in his hand. It was a black-and-white document printed on low-quality paper, imported from the North. Across its cover was “Communiszh Manifesto”, the author had not come up with a translation for the second word. The book was very much crowdsourced with many different versions with different translations and footnotes circulating amongst the slums of Victores.
“Hey, whats that book” shouted another soldier who had finished his meal of beef and the Usha, a kind of extremely long grain rice. He gestured to the manuscript as some stew still remained on his mouth. “A political book, from Germany” responded Eiasocho. “Its by Marx. He wants to end all this, the wars, the colonialism, the merchants exploitation”

Little did either of them know at this point, but not only would they eventually see this idea conquer Victores, they would do it themselves.

“The Furbish will be given no quarter. We cannot allow those damn peddlers of death to go unchallenged. This is a trick, the Furbish have made this demand so that we are forced to war. We cannot tolerate their merchants forever, if we break it they will certainly seek war, if we reject it they will seek war. There is no way around this. They cannot dare to attack us. They will never make it through the North, much less through the strong fortresses of the South. We have developed a special weapon for usage against these devils anyways.” said the Chancellor.

“Tear up this stupid letter. Show them that we mean it. They will not force us open like they did to the Shonguns and Huangdis, the Jashajasha must stand. Even if they land on our beaches, we will stop them”

Before sunrise, 9/8/1869

Throughout the whole night, lookouts watched the native camp. It could erupt in any moment, charging the Furbish. Each lookout was watching from a safe distance, with their fingers over one button. It would alert the generals, and soldiers will be sent to the field. It was very dark, with the only light coming from the torches of the native lookouts. Not much else was seen. But if they began gathering for an assault, the Furbish would know, and have enough soldiers ready to confront them.

The grounds where the battle first took place were empty. After the Furbish retreated to their barracks, some stayed behind to clear out all corpses and wounded soldiers from both sides that remained. Their work was accomplished quickly, without any bodies left. When it began getting lighter outside, the lookouts saw something they were fearing. More canoes have been sailing in all night, with fresh new troops ready to fight. During the night as well, large cannons were prepared, pointing at the camp. When they could see, the soldiers fired. They were determined, to cause as much damage as possible before the natives woke up and began their charge. But with all the canoes, Beumer was worried. How much more could they send before ships from Matuata arrive?

At sunrise, soldiers were woken up and called to action. The natives began to attack at around that time as well. A lot has been the same as the clash on the previous day. The Furbish fired rifles, and hand to hand combat began. This time there was a lot more natives, but they pushed forward slower. Many of their leaders were killed on the previous day, and the remaining were not as good at commanding units, especially against a better equipped opponent.

By the afternoon, more were arriving, and some began pushing back the Furbish. The natives believed it was one group in particular, a group of musketeers who had been firing at the Furbish. Lord Beumer saw this while scouting. There should be a way to deal with them. They have also formed themselves into a square, which was a good anti-cavalry tactic. While watching, he saw one officer lead a small cavalry group to the native musketeers. Lord Beumer was shocked, surely a trained officer should know better. But when they were close, the natives suddenly dispersed. The cavalry force cut through the fleeing musketeers, destroying what the natives thought was their best chance of winning.

At about the same time, Lord Beumer spotted ships. They were all ironclads, waving a Furbish battle flag. Some ships fired into the natives ashore, and others fired at the canoes. Canoes starting sinking, and ones that didn't charged futilely at the ships. Canoes that were not shot by cannons were rammed by the ships, which caused them to sink. The many wooden canoes were no match for the large iron ships. The ships sailed, as if nothing could stop them. No native canoe landed another soldier in that attack.

The commander of the fleet was Admiral Barclay McNeal. He served on many different ships, and commanded many different ones. He stood on the fleet's flagship, the FIS Martijn van Reimsdijk. The ship lead the rest of the fleet forward towards the canoes. They were being taken out quickly, far faster than new ones could sail in. The ships didn't just sit in the water. They traveled at the opposite direction of the canoes, to get to their source and take them out from there.

By night, the ships reached a main dock and fired at it. Natives fought back with everything they had. Some had cannons, which fired at the ships. One cannon fired and directly hit the flagship, but left nothing but a dent. Seeing this, the ship fired at the position for half an hour, making sure nothing there survives. Many years later, a heavily damaged cannon is sitting at a museum. It was the only thing to survive that barrage.

The next day, bombardment continued. Other villages were shot at. The coasts were attacked. There will be no coastal villages, no place for boats to be sent from. Several days after the initial attack at Kanton, the last natives were captured, but the siege at the wall continued. For the next ten years, the siege will continue. Not every day, it will be back and forth between both sides. The walls will be broken over ten years later, but the force of natives that attack the city will be significantly smaller than the ones that landed on the first day.

After almost three weeks of traveling, the ship has finally arrived. Frode Beck got off the boat, with a letter to the Victoresian government. He send the letter through the Victoresian postal system, and hopped on a boat back to Furby City. The Victoresian government was given a week to confirm that they have received the letter. Beck hoped they did, and this was the last time he will ever be in Victores. But little did he know, he would be sending a second letter, and then handing the Furbish ambassador to Victores a third.

With the letter sent almost a month before, the issue of Victores was forgotten. Parliament was debating various other matters. After many arguments in the first few days of August, Lambert and Dawson, who were both members of the Liberal Party, worked together on several bills and made them pass.

Beck returned on the fourteenth of September, after only setting foot on Victoresian soil for a few minutes to send the letter and hopped back on the same ship to Furby Island. The letter said that the Victoresians had a single week to respond to it. Lambert agreed, hoping the letter would make the Victoresians stop and avoid a war. Dawson agreed hoping to make Lambert realize that the letter will do nothing. A week after Beck set foot back on Furby Island, the letter did not arrive.

After having lunch, Dawson realized this and decided to bring up the issue after over a month and a half.

Dawson: "With the deadline we gave the Victoresians, shouldn't we have received their reply letter now?"

MP(1): "Yes, they should have. We have all voted in favor of giving the Victoresians a week to respond, and we should have received the letter from them by now."

Dawson: "Exactly. They did not respond to our given deadline, and we must show no mercy."

Lambert: "Or they could have not received the letter."

Dawson: "What?"

Lambert: "Ever since the letter was sent through the Victoresian post office, we have no idea what happened to it. It may have been lost, or sent to the wrong place, or the ship carrying it has sunk. Or maybe the ship can arrive tomorrow."

MP(2): "No! That is impossible! It could only travel by Furbish ship, which would never sink. The Victoresians got it and knew of its existence, and they must have ignored it or tore it up."

MP(3): "Yeah and why would they tear it up? Victores is unstable, and the last thing they do need is a war. They would much rather respond and go to the negotiating table."

MP(2): "They are just as stupid as China was before being attacked by the British. And we're probably going to cause a civil war in Victores by sending a single brigade."

With that statement, all hell broke loose in Parliament again. Soon members of parliament began arguing with each other again over what to do about the situation. Nobody had known, that the Victoresians tore up the letter after reading it. Lambert suggested sending another letter, which Dawson reluctantly agreed to. That day, Beck was then sent again to Victores with the second letter, arriving three weeks later on the tenth of October, and he returned to Furby Island on the thrity-first. On the seventh of November, Parliament will wait for the Victoresian response.
