Location and Terrain

The exercise will be taking place in the South Tasmanian islands, off the coast of Furby Island. They are a small group of seven islands, and have a dense jungle. The islands are relatively flat, with the most elevation differences being a few small hills. In the largest island, there is a POW camp, which was abandoned since 1953. Nature had reclaimed much of it, but the concrete structures still remain.

Scenario

The exercise is simulating a landing operation on several islands. In the exercise, soldiers will be given ten days to land in the islands, opposed by guerilla forces, to secure nine locations across the islands. There is one location on each island, and three on the largest one. One location is within the POW camp.

ORBAT

Each member of the Sencho Pact will bring the following:
-Furbish Islands, 10000 soldiers
-Victores, 5000 soldiers
-Vymar, 4100 soldiers
-Zeljunaar, 243 soldiers

For the defenders, there will a total of 4500 people from various native tribes split into groups of 500 to protect each location.

VICTORESIAN MILITARY
COUNCIL ANNOUNCEMENT

It is the highest order of the Central Military Council of Victores to participate in the Sencho Pact excercise in the Tasman Islands with our comrades in Furby Island, Vymar, and Zeljunaar. This operation marks the first Victoresian military cooperation with foreign military forces on a level where the non-Victoresian forces out number Victoresian ones and are not directly attached with Victoresian military units. This excercise will be used by the Victoresian military to simulate rapid attacks against small islands by Combined Naval Action units of the Revolutionary Guards. It will be simulated by the 11th Revolutionary Guards Brigade. It will be under the command of Comrade Colonel Yurtye Küripril. The 11th Brigade will consist of a naval, ground, and aerial element in an experimental setup. It will be formed from the 12th Seperate Revolutionary Guards Air Wing, Assault Ship Ikio, and the 12th and 14th Revoltutionary Guards Marines Battalions equipped with motor boats. Any soldiers who are part of this formation are to immediately report to Dipvlock and prepare for deployment to the Furbish Islands. Leadership is non-negotiable due to the unique circumstance regarding military cooperation with the non-Victoresian units.

Long Live Victores!
Long Live the Socialist Revolution!

Eupril, Trainline from Nevi Seleste to Dipvlock
Private Chuku read over the leaflet that had been distributed along with the rest of the 14th. Due to a slight miscommunication the leaflets were distributed after they were already on a bullet train towards Dipvlock. The Victoresian rail system was a wonder to behold. They had left just an 2 hours ago and we already half-way to Dipvlock. Normally they had to go slower so that their equipment could keep up, but he presumed that this was to be an excercise and they had specially prepared equipment in Dipvlock. He leaned back in his seat, the entire train compartment was packed full of soldiers, mostly in their off duty civilan clothes. From his studies as a Geography Student at the University of the Toilers of the South, or the Nevi Seleste Central as it was more commonly known, he knew that most of Furbish territory is quite dense jungle. He could assume that they would receive new equipment for that as well. Suddenly the automatic doors at the front of the compartment slid open and a officer strolled in rapidly holding a stack of papers. Chuku watched as he handed out stacks to each soldier. The officer soon made it to his row and dropped one into his lap. Chuku picked up the paper which depicted a detailed map of the region. Printed over the map were a few red lines demonstrating the route of attack. He traced his finger over the map, finding a red line marked "14th". It drew in with the rest of the units from the West. It then turned southwards and broke off from the rest of the force. They were to use their hovercraft to rush all the way up the rivers and hit the jungle itself allowing them to land more equipment closer to the enemy. This procedure had never been used by the Victoresian military in a mass assault like this. Nonetheless, this wouldn't matter to him, all he had to do was to follow orders. The journey to Dipvlock was still almost 2 hours away so Chuku leaned back and tried to fall asleep.

Dipvlock
Five Thousand Victoresian soldiers gathered in several columns on the giant docks of Dipvlock as the autumn sun shung over the waves. In front of them sat the large assault ship Ikio. It was designed specifically for this kind of amphibious assault and was only completed in 2012 amidst rising tensions over Victores's island territories. The waves splashed up and down the hull of the ship. Below the dock several hovercraft drove into the hull of the assault ship. The ship had been refitted to remove some of the area typically used for armoured vehicles and replaced it with more room for more landing crafts. Several crates full of equipment were lifted by forklifts into the vast ship. Behind the columns of soldiers waiting to board were five VTOL jets. This particular model was the Z-9, a design that dated back to the Cold War, an upgraded Victoresian version of the Yak-38 Forger. The aging aircraft were the only jumpjets that were ready, and without the risk of actual enemy missiles, they would suffice. The most notable thing about the formation currently waiting on the docks of Dipvlock was the conspicious lack of armor, something that high command considered useless in the dense Tasman Jungles. Instead they would be equipped with extremly advanced robots from the Cedu Ve Central Design Bureau. There included several experimental hidden spy cameras, robotic "mules" with legs to aid with the soldiers traversing the dense jungle of the islands, as well as light drones capable of scouting the jungle at low altitudes. Suddenly a whistle rang out and broke the crashing of the waves, a few orders were yelled over a bullhorn. The soldiers picked up their modified rifles and equipment and began entering the ship in several groups. The journey to the Furbish Islands was not long, less than a day.

Matuata Island Base, Zuidoostelijketerritoria
Furby Island

East Docks

The soldiers stood on the docks, and walked on board the ships. Since the island of Matuata was conquered in the 1840s, it was used as a base for Furbish soldiers going on expeditions, and a major naval base. The base was modernized during the years, but some historical buildings or objects remained. Of all of them, the FIS Martijn van Riemsdijk, the second ship to bear the name, was the most famous. It was an ironclad warship built on the island, and fought in the Kanton Uprising of 1869, and in the Victoresian-Furbish War, in the same year. The ship was dwarfed by the amphibious assault ships that are carrying soldiers to the South Tasmanian Islands, but it was one of the largest ships built at the time.

As all soldiers in two brigades got in, the ships left the dock. They would arrive to the islands quickly, and at just the right time to begin the exercise. The 49th and 50th brigades will participate in the exercise, under Major General Thomas de Lang, who is the commander of the 17th division.

Both brigades will land on two separate islands, and attempt to secure both key targets on the islands. After which, they will land on the largest island, and attempt to secure the center location there. They will be facing off against native guerilla fighters, which volunteered to be part of the exercise. The jungle terrain will pose a challenge, but the Furbish will probably have an easier time than the Vymarians, Victoresians, and Zeljunaarians. Unlike the other three, the Furbish are more used to the climate, and the jungle brigades will be brought to the exercise.

The ships were moving at full speed without an escort. While in most circumstances that is a bad idea, it is unlikely any enemy would suddenly appear without warning to attack. The ships have a better chance of crashing into a rock and sinking than encountering an actual enemy.

HIGHWAY 147
Northern Vymar

Colonel Alfred Lemmings sat in the front Humvee of his convoy that stretched down 800 meters behind him. The darkness that engulfed him and his convoy was only broken up by the white beams shooting off of Humvees and their red tail lights. The road ahead of him was desolate and empty, only endless farmland and plains to accompany his eyes as the convoy sped through the paved free way. He checked his watch.

"0100"

They had been driving for 2 hours, and according to his driver; there was 2 more to go. He settled back into his seat as he took out a small leaflet he had kept in his front pocket. It was a basic white leaflet, small in design. It read :

TO QUALIFIED PERSONAL ONLY

As part of a new initiative set by the recent military alliance "The Sencho Pact", The Vymarian Armed Forces will be participating in a large scale military exercise in the Furbish Island Chain. As part of typical procedure every soldier will be equipped with standard Vymarian equipment. Before boarding your assigned assault ship, make sure you are carrying all of the assigned equipment that will be briefed and delivered to you at Bouveur Port. Once you enter the "combat zone" do not attack or eat any wildlife as doing so may result in death or serious injury. The Vymarian Government will not cover any expenses resulting from reckless actions with the Furbish wildlife.

If you have not been briefed on our allies in this exercise, we will be working in cooperation of Zeljunaar, Furby Island and Victores. Be respectful of their individual cultures and languages. Our alliance requires not just diplomatic commitment, but commitment from our soldiers as well.

Long live Vymar!
John Williams

BOUVEUR PORT

As the last Vymarian soldier was loaded onto the last amphibious assault ship, the Vymarian convoy of 4100 soldiers set their course towards the Furbish Islands. With them was an escort fleet of cruisers and frigates who were to act as an escort fleet to the amphibious forces. Despite the fact the fleet was in no true danger, it was seen as a waste of time if the Vymarian navy did not get some training in escorting ships over long distances. The entire convoy would reach their destination within a day with some hours later. Many Vymarians on board the ship had never visited the Furbish islands. Rumors of the supposedly "deadly" wildlife spread throughout the cabins of the restless soldiers as their fleet pushed forward through the tumultuous oceans. It had been a long time since Vymar took part in a large scale military exercise; it had to show to its allies that it was not only capable, but capable as well.

Off the Coast of the Tasman Islands
The cavernous hull of the Ikea cut through the surf of the Pacific Ocean approaching the Tasman Islands. Many of these soldier’s ancestors had dreamed of the day they would invade the Furbish Islands, alas they were now doing it in peacetime. Most of the soldiers rested in the relatively cramped quarters for the short trip, just over a week. One of the many woes of the Victoresian navy was the isolated location, any deployment required traveling for weeks, even months. As they began approaching the small green specks on the horizon, the lights of the dock flashed on. Suddenly the intercom turned on with an order to prepare for the invasion. The ship would stop 2 kilometers off the coast and the landing craft would make the rest of the distance with some support from the helicopters. The jump jets would begin bombing the area around the flag, presumably with airbursts of dye. It would take three landing craft to sustain each battalion, and the ship carried enough landing craft to support only one attack at a time. Battalion A and Battalion C would attack first onto the Islands labeled Targets Red and Green respectively. The hovercraft were to be able to push them all the way up the exposed beach, and allow them to enter the jungle very quickly. The planes would then identify and target the enemy positions. The Victoresian soldiers would then move directly towards the target, only a few kilometers inland. Each battalion would then hold one of the islands until the end of the exercise.

Within minutes the dock of the great ship became a hive of activity. Armored vehicles were winched into the hovercraft who were being simultaneously fueled for the dash to the beach. Several columns of soldiers gathered in the well dock. They quickly streamed into the ship clad in their heavy equipment for the deep jungle warfare they expected to face. Most of the armored vehicles were light APCs originally designed to be air mobile, they were chosen for their ability to make it through the difficult terrain of the Tasman Islands. As the equipment and soldiers were packed into the hovercrafts their engines roared to life and began slipping out of the rear of the ship, moving towards towards the islands. At the same time a pair of jump jets rose from the deck of the warship and began flying towards the center of the islands looking for targets.

OFF THE COAST OF THE MAIN TASMANIAN ISLAND
ASSAULT SHIP BRAVO
24TH AMPHIBIOUS MECHANIZED BATTALION

Colonel Frank Keller felt his APC seemingly part the sea as a convoy of 24 AAV7 APCs headed straight towards the beaches as part of the first wave to set a beach head for further operations on the island. The APCs moved in a flat, straight formation as they moved closer and closer to the beaches. From within his APC, he could hear the water sear past his APC as it continued to truck through the clear waters surrounding the island. The Colonel was relatively new to his job and was promoted 2 weeks prior. His new position as a Colonel during a joint combat exercise meant that the pressure was on for the Colonel to show that the military was competent. After all, there would be no point in allying with a nation that couldn't conduct its own operations.

Within 100 meters, the AAV7s popped a grey, thick smoke, obscuring their approach into the beaches. The crews inside of the APCs became restless, ready to exit out of the large back door at a moments notice. within 45 meters, the driver yelled over the speakers in the APC for the group of 24 to prepare to disembark. Before they knew it, the APC rocked back as it hit the sandy shores of the island. The Colonel screamed out for everyone to disembark as the doors opened and exited the vehicle. Around him was a barrage of smoke, sand and gunfire as he slammed his body to the ground and began motioning his troops to take position next to the APCs.

S.S PORTSTEAD

The S.S Portstead flung itself across the sea in a fast but stable matter as IBF-12 Multi-Role fighter jets prepared to take off the runway. Edward Jenner watched in awe as one of the Jets that were given the green light shot across the carrier's deck, up its ramp and into the sky above. Shortly after, another jet was risen up to the deck and another Jet got into position to take off. With the signal from the Aircraft Directing Officer, another Jet shot off into the sky and soon, completely out of view.

The plan was for the jets to drop their simulated "munitions" onto the abandoned POW camp on specific bunkers to attempt to weaken the "insurgents" that were entrenched into them. With continuous airstrikes, the POW camp would be an easy target for the ground troops now landing on the beaches.

OFF THE COAST OF THE MAIN TASMANIAN ISLAND
WEST OF THE POW CAMP
15TH LIGHT ARTILLERY BATTALION

Sergeant Irwin Samuels boarded his Puma helicopter first, with his squad trailing him not far behind. His battalion as a whole were not arriving at the Tasmanian islands to capture a specific flag. Instead, they were to support all the other squads through the use of concentrated and accurate artillery fire that would cover the entire main island. 10 helicopters prepared to take off, 5 of which were about to transport light 105mm artillery guns with the battalion as they landed on the beaches. Within minutes, the helicopters began to warm up their engines and prepare for take off as the final troops entered into their assigned helicopter. Aircraft Directors began throwing up signals at the pilots, all of which left Irwin completely clueless as to what they meant or if they would have to postpone the operation for some explainable reason. Irwin liked his feet on the ground; naturally, he didn't have much affinity or interest towards the other branches. Which was partly the reason he initially was against transporting light artillery across an ocean. However, with some rather harsh convincing (threats of demotion) he decided to go along with the plan. And before he could think any further of the possible meanings of what motions the aircraft director was doing, his helicopter shot up and flew towards its assigned supporting position.

South Tasmanian Islands
Furby Island

Each of the islands has some defenders, who volunteered for the task. They were not armed with much. They were the defenders in the exercise, and they must prevent the attackers from gaining any of the targets. For each target, there were five hundred, and all moved to special positions while waiting for an attack. One southwestern island, the Victoresians began an assault. Two planes few over the island, and dropped some simulated ammunition on the jungle below. Many took cover when it began. The clearing that contained the flag was attacked as well. But there were few casualties. Several Victoresian hovercrafts landed on a beach. Forces were notified. There were twenty-five in the vicinity, but soon more will be on the way. Over a hundred moved to the landing site, armed with various weapons. Most had assault rifles, and some hand anti-armor weapons, and some had anti-air guns. A few set up booby traps for the Victoresians. All of these were simulated, usually involving some kind of dye. The soldiers aimed their weapons and fired. On the main island, Vymarian troops landed, and on two others, Furbish troops did. The what the guerillas did on the island where the Victoresians landed, the same was done on the other three. Natives prepared and fired on landing troops and their air support. Their goal was the hold out against attacks from four nations, for ten days.
