People's Union of Letwinist States.
"Citizens of the press, thank you for coming." Oliver Jogi nodded at the men and women gathered around his podium. In preparation for this last press conference, the room had been crammed with extra chairs as the Union's foreign office found itself in the unprecedented spotlight of the international community.
"We have worked hard in these last weeks to organise the Summit for International Understanding in Vesimaa. So it is my personal pride to announce that the meeting will be commencing as planned. In order to further international understanding and possible cooperation, delegations from seven countries have announced their participation.
Representatives of the PAS, the Free Lands of the Selkie, Haeraelia, Provinci, Oflandia, Puerto Colijito and Byshel will be coming to the ULS and meeting with our own delegation in the Vitomir-Letwin-Hall. On this note, I would like to thank all our friends in these countries for their interest, as we hope for fruitful discussions.
The delegations will be arriving shortly and we hope that the people of Vesimaa will welcome them warmly as they travel from the airport to the city centre.
Unfortunately, we have been warned by our comrades in the People's Commissariat for Population Security and War that this international meeting may also draw the attention of less tolerant individuals and groups. Let me state that we will not tolerate any attacks on foreigners on our ground. We are an open nation and cannot allow hate to prevail. I therefore ask all my fellow citizens to be vigilant and remember their duty to the community and our nation's forthcoming in whatever the summit will bring.
Thank you, are there any questions?"
It was a rhetorical question and everyone knew it. Immediately, multiple hands shot up.
"Yes?" Oliver pointed at a middle-aged woman sitting right in front of him.
"Thank you comrade Secretary, this is for the Obli News Service: will the People's Police be able to guarantee the safety of Union citizens?"
"The Secretary of the People's Commissariat for Population Security and War has informed me that she does not see any danger for the Union's inhabitants. Nonetheless, both Militia and People's Police Units are on stand-by to protect both our guests and citizens, should there be a danger for either."
"I am Petyr Haaflenga from the Network of Free Oblii Press. Will the summit be dealing with matters of military nature?"
"Thank you for this question. No, matters of military nature are not foreseen on our schedule. Even if the topic should come up, our delegation will stand strong in our foreign policy and the People's Congress' resolutions. I wish to also say that we will be notifying the press of all goings-on during and at least after the summit itself. There is no need to worry about intransparency or the like as long as the People's Administration is the host of such a meeting."
"Comrade Secretary, will the delegations..."
