"I...I can't...thank you, I suppose, but this isn't technically for me, I'm him, but I'm also not him. We're two different universes apart. I shouldn't have this." replied Yuuya. But his alt-half-sister's argument and transdimensional aura countered his argument. He needed it more than he needed it. Yuuya had made peace with his heritage long ago, when he faced off against this dimension's Yui during their battles on Earth. He loved himself like his half-sister loved him, though they were still at odds when the war ended, ostensibly with Japan's defeat, which is now completely turned on its head.
But to the task at hand, Yuuya must deal with the current crisis that his team, and the CON, are facing. "Thank you again, I'll try to reconcile with this dimension's you, as it is my duty to bridge the divide between me and my half-sister. Goodbye, and godspeed."
He turned to return to the Frames with Marinaris, who was stunned by the sudden onset of Yuuya's authority and confidence.
After seeing them off, Hawthorne approached alt-Yui. "Shall we get you back to your home?"

The four Zipangese vessels materialized almost in 30 seconds after a strange burst transmission from somewhere on the ship was registered by the black log. "Even the Admiral's encrypted messages are stuck in the Stone Age with this enemy. Shit." replied the communications officer to the on-duty bridge commander. "We're also getting a transmission from the ships, sir. Open, and in English."
Just as the Zipangese broadcast was finished, Admiral Magbaredge entered the bridge. "Open a channel with their flagship, you should have triangulated it by the broadcast." Several 'yes, ma'ams' later, a figure in a dark, ornate robe was on the screen, about to parley with the effective leader of the Commonwealth of Nations and its Space Development Initiative.

Empire of Europa
The walls of the Ministry of Defense shook violently as the ground beneath did, clearly caused by the shockwaves of the Zipangese orbital bombardment of the planetary shield grid all across the globe. Admiral Henrik Van Doorner gnashed his teeth in frustration as he gripped the arms of his chair so tightly the knuckles turned white, the scene playing out in the war room not at all satisfactory. Aides and officers alike were rushing around like foolish twits trying to get order among the chaos though it was a task even the mythical Olympian Gods may have faltered in at this point.
The massive holographic dais in the center of the room, circled by a council table staffed by only half as many Admiral’s, General’s, and other officers as it could fit there having been no time to carry out promotions to fill the now vacant spots caused by casualty or desertion, displayed the Earth surrounded by the Zipangese fleet bombarding the shield grid protecting everything beneath low orbit and the remains of the Europan navy in high orbit suicidally trying to break the blockade. The Planetary Shield Grid was designed as a secondary protection against asteroids and NEO (Near Earth Objects) should the particle cannon grid fail and was projected by hundreds of thousands of transmitters across the Earth though the Commonwealth systems had long since been disabled forcing the Imperial Intelligence Service to hack into the Common’s system to reactivate the transmitters in their territory. At present it seemed to be living up to its reputation and no fire from the blockade had yet broken through to strike the planet, though the shockwaves generated by the impact with the shield were creating small earthquake like tremors across the Earth and reports were already coming in of serious damage caused by these tremors across the globe.
Henrik watched as another cruiser was blown to smithereens attempting a hopeless charge against the enemy blockade; over a hundred warships had already been lost including the sole remaining Olympus Mons dreadnought seeing as twelve were destroyed at the Battle of Jupiter, three during Grand Admiral Kaalzebrütt’s engagement, and the other seven were taken by the exodus. Though his orbital forces were dwindling, he did still have several thousand helicarriers and atmospheric warships available, though none could venture into high orbit and the planetary shield would have to be lowered to do so anyway; the main strength in these ships was that almost every single one carried thermonuclear weapons of some kind be it missiles or railguns so when the enemy pierced the shield, Henrik’s forces could still bring down as many of them as they could before being destroyed. Henrik turned to his aide, Captain Rodrigo Salieri hoping that his last resort was ready and in place. “Captain are all SSBN’s reporting in from their staging areas?”
“They are Your Excellency, all 407 submarines have arrived at their predesignated staging areas and have primed all onboard warheads to fire when ready.” Henrik knew he could not hold the Zipangese at bay in orbit or in atmosphere so his final line in the sand was total obliteration on the ground. Once the shield barrier was down and the atmospheric fleet cleared from the board, the Zipangese would no doubt begin landing troops on the planet and once they did, he would strike. All of Europa’s remaining ballistic missile submarines, a total of just over four hundred each equipped with at least ten missiles, and the Europan standard SLBM the XC-24 carried ten warheads, giving Henrik a grand total of over 40,000 nuclear warheads with a range to hit anywhere on the face of the planet. “I should again remind you that the detonation of so many nuclear warheads is likely to radiate the entire Earth and render deceased much of the life on our home world. Would it not be wiser to launch a nuclear offensive against the Zipangese fleet in orbit in coordination with our atmospheric fleet?”
“Yes it would but the Emperor demands I hold our submarine forces as a final resort-“ Though in truth the real danger there was that it would require the shield to be lowered in order to fire so many missiles into orbit and thus would expose Earth to the enemy bombardment. Of course the Emperor did not think in those terms, he only thought in terms of how much destruction he could wreak upon his enemies. But the old fool was not in the room right now and Henrik was technically Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and thus had to act in the best interest of all Europa, not one mad lunatic ruler. A nuclear offensive was much more logical than waiting for each layer of defenses to be destroyed and then rendering Earth uninhabitable. The decision was made. “Captain send orders to all submarines to target the enemy fleet in orbit and give the same to the atmospheric fleet. I want all nuclear munitions available targeting the enemy fleet. In all that’s about eighty thousand warheads but enemy point defense will bring down at least a fourth of that, another quarter won’t hit their targets in orbit due to the fact they weren’t meant to be fired into space, and at least half of the remainder will likely detonate before they hit the target meaning only about a quarter of the warheads should find their targets. And it will take grouped volleys of warheads to bring down the enemy capital ships but twenty thousand nuclear weapons should be enough to kill a fair few enemy ships even if it would only be to buy us a little more time to hold out.”
Before those orders could be put in though, a new hologram suddenly took over the dais, one of Prince Dietrich the Traitor looking rather smug. Henrik was about to scream and shout and the Prince began speaking. “Greetings High Command, this is a recording built into the nuclear launch system. Clearly one of you fools had decided to launch a nuclear attack so I prepared a little surprise for anyone who attempted this. A virus I planted in the strategic command network will now proceed to deactivate almost every nuclear weapon connected to the network; I say almost because some will still be used...against Europa.” Then the recording shut off and alarms began blaring as the monitors read launch detected over and over. Captain Salieri looked down at his monitor in horror.
“Your Excellency, two thousand tactical nuclear warheads have just been launched at targets across the globe while every other warhead has been deactivated! The targets include the MANTIS Network Uplink Centers in Europe, Arabia, Siberia, and the Congo, the terrestrial Helium-3 mines in North Africa and Turkey, and...oh God!” Henrik’s fears were confirmed seconds later when Rodrigo declared the third set of targets. “The Central Uplink Stations for the Planetary Shield Grid!” In one fell swoop Europa’s nuclear suicide bomb had been turned against itself and would now be the instrument of the Empire’s demise. They could all only watch in mounting horror as the two thousand tactical nuclear weapons launched from Europan silo’s and made for the targets across the Empire; the MANTIS system was not designed to flag Europan ballistic missiles as viable targets and so would not shoot them down. Within moments the warheads began striking their targets and moments later ever more horrifying news:
The Planetary Shield Grid had come down.

The bridge fell silent and all eyes turned to the cyan, three-dimensional figure pacing about the holographic display table. Ikaruga, according to the latest intelligence reports of the former Union of North American Provinces' foreign intelligence agency CIND, he was head of the former JPS' overseas espionage cells, with extensive resources and connections, like the NKVD chief Beria but without all those skeletons in the closet.
Magbaredge's eyes followed him as he paced about holo-table, giving his usual bullshit spiel and acting like a sinister inspector of the secret police in a totalitarian state promising safety from being shot in the back of the head and the sparing of one's family if they cooperate fully. She wasn't afraid of him, partly because she did not let such things get to her while in front of the bridge crew. Plus, she was determined to have the CON survive, thrive, and return to make them all pay for their crimes, past, present, and future. She made up her mind in her quarters. Survive, thrive, and return. Bigger and better.
"Well, you are a polite gentleman to escort a lady to the door. We are ready to depart this system, in spite of everything. Shall we go in about 20 minutes? You may proceed with your warning the meantime, I suppose. No need to delay your Shogun's warning any further."
Near the IZN Agano
Yuuya's Frame decelerated suddenly a good 10 clicks from the coordinates he...acquired. The visions he was having was giving him a vague sense of clairvoyance. The reason for this was his half-sister, and this messed up multi-verse fucking with everyone's minds. He was immediately getting hailed and a flight of two spaceborne TSFs flanked him about a minute after he arrived a good minute after he reoriented himself and accelerated towards the Agano.
He responded to the hails in perfect Japanese, something he learned while in the service but his accent and pronunciation wasn't good for intelligence work. Now he made the pilots escorting him to the ship pause at the quality of his Japanese, perhaps causing them to wonder if he was a deep insertion agent for the ZSE flying in for a debrief.
After landing his Frame, he exited and climbed down. The skeleton maintenance crew and security complement for this part of the ship were watching him, quite confused at this apparent stranger. A fellow in what appeared to be officer garb approached Yuuya with four guards. Natural distrust, of course. This is wartime.
Before the man spoke, Yuuya spoke in his perfect Japanese, in a way that commanded authority: "Take me to Takamura Yui; she wants to her half-brother." He held Yui's katana in his left hand, with the the small rope that was tied on the scabbard holding the guard, keeping the weapon sheathed.
The waves and current of the multiverse
Hawthorne giggled and laughed as he skipped and danced around Anthony Asgill and another person, both who were collapsed on their own hard energy platforms. Asgill slowly stood up. The person he saw next to him looked female, and familiar. A forgotten face from long ago.
"You...you again? What the hell are you doing to me? And now this poor woman! You are a kidnapper, who tortures innocent souls across time and worlds."
"That may appear that way, but this is the only place with no prying eyes. Well, except the Ultimate Evil could see and hear us, perhaps." replied Hawthorne. He goosestepped and made a faux-German accent, yelling in quasi-gibberish German. "Ya vole, commandant. Ya, mein fuhrer." He did a little tap dance, which made Asgill recall a comic opera and attempted fraud case from long ago.
"What do you mean? And what about her?" he demanded. The woman woke up, her hair falling over her face as she raise herself by her arms. "God, I feel like I've been slapped in the face endlessly by a self-entitled version of myself, with no fashion sense and terrible hair. Is that what some people think I am? Good god." she asked aloud. She turned and saw the two men arguing, and then the stark whiteness of her environment. "Where the hell am I?"
"Fraulein Hyacinth, you are not well!" Hawthorne replied in his character. Hyacinth? Hyacinth Amagi, Asgill remembered. The MP from that protest in 2017, two centuries ago. She's still alive? "You're that Mountie from Vicky, the one who diffused that situation in front of the Japanese embassy. I was pushed to the ground. You arrested the man who pushed around with you and your men." recalled Amagi.
The two stared at each other, with Asgill moving to help her up. "Now that both of you recall each other from two centuries ago, we get down to business. A greater evil than the two empires that control the world--yes there is something worse than those who don't have any sense of humor and care nothing but military control and blah blah blah. Anyway, They Who Must Not Be Named, the Devil Incarnate, control several million universes in our corner of the multiverse, are poised to take over ours and subjugate it, in their eternal campaign to control everything and everyone..."
Hawthorne began his long-winded explanation, ending on the need for everyone to prepare for the future. Asgill and Hyacinth stared at each other again. "Asgill, you'll be preparing on your end via your position, and Hyacinth from yours. I'll, from time to time, summon you when I need to for updating each other and preparing for the Big Day. You'll find out more from the factions as they have been preparing for sometime as well. But they don't have what I have, and I don't have what they have. You'll be intermediaries." Before both could ask their questions, Hawthorne snapped his fingers, and the two disappeared.
Asgill was back on Zipang Prime, in his stateroom. Hyacinth was back on the Duty Bound, back in her sleeping quarters.

Magbaredge knew what Ikaruga was referring too, though didn't show it to her crew as they became confused to what he was referring to--the Devils that created this Hell-on-Earth were the Jerry tyrant and She-Wolf Meiya. All things in due time to be revealed. Bridges knows apparently, though the admiral, though she wondered where the hell he was. He was due back and now the CON remnant fleet was about to leave Sol for the its longest sojourn ever.
As Ikaruga gave ominous detail on how the Europan Empire would be essentially destroyed and its former territories becoming military governorates, and CON territories becoming a mix of hostage-states and protectorates, Magbaredge mentally outlined her plan for the Andromedan Empire, a phoenix in this ash-heap of a galaxy would arise to fight the transdimensional Ultimate Evil, and this dimension's Lesser Evils. While the IZE and the Europan remnant that fled Sol shortly after the Battle of Jupiter would eventually contact each other and resume the endless bloodbath, Andromeda would build itself up to be the New Galaxy, opposed to the naked tyranny of the Old Galaxy, a reestablishment of liberty and justice. Never again shall tyranny run unopposed. Never again. The CON will not be pushed around anymore.

"Yui...sister. It has been...some time since our reunion. I take it the years have been kind to you; you don't like a day over 20." replied Yuuya, staring at his his half-sister. He held his katana in his left hand, still secured in the scabbard. "But we both have little time to discuss...family and personal matters. We have important affairs of state to discuss. Let's begin."
He was unsure what she was going to discuss. Defection? Fat chance of that happening. Double agent? Same fat chance. Jerry fleeing like the JPS did in the past? That was already being made a cliche by the enlisted. That the CON was doing the same thing? The troops weren't unaware of the similarities.
But there was a nagging feeling of something larger than these three scorpions in a bottle. Something worse.
"I'm all ears, sister."

"I'm sorry sister, I cannot leave the CON. That is not compatible...with my character. Besides, an intermediary of sorts maybe needed in the future, the only one you can trust is me." Yuuya stared back at her, his eyes indicating that he was serious. He wasn't going to defect the home he has known all his life to serve a monster, even if this monster wanted to defeat a greater monster. Allied, in this unorthodox manner, yes, but this was an alliance of convenience and necessity. Yuuya turned to the woosh of the doors opening in the bridge's rear. Three figures emerged out of the semi-darkness, the one in front informing Yuuya of a much more important audience. "Catch you later, Yui," he turned his at her, and then turned again to face the open doors.
Yuuya walked forward, moving past the admiral-like figure directing him with his right arm stretched outward, with a strong blue tint to his skin and the red irises piercing into his, though Yuuya held firm against his intimidation.
As he walked down the dark red corridor, he felt a sense of power, a strong entity that grew stronger every time he took another step.
Another set of doors opened up, a spot light revealing where he should stand. Needlessly dramatic. He thought. He entered the spot, and he heard a voice, amplified by a PA system, and then it switched to a loud but natural sound, bolstered by the local acoustics.
Yuuya stared with a mix of reservation and defiance against the figure before him.
The Multiverse, Local Group Series
Asgill, Amagi, and Hawthorne were all observing the possible outcomes of the many versions of the impending war of the Three Empires against the Ultimate Evil, though of course in any one parallel dimension there are multitudes of variables that make it into a different dimension. "Fate is fluid, in the hands of men," Hawthorne said, summing up the great and noble cause of everyone to crush this Ultimate Evil. "That is why we all must take the utmost care in every step of the grand operation."
"We will coordinate with our allies when needed to, and will make the appropriate measures and actions to ensure our parts of the plan are carried out. We will have to communicate to the Zipangese, Versan, and CON remnants to keep them abreast of developments." said Asgill. This would entail certain espionage, assassination, deception, and ultimately defection. All in the name of the Anti-Final Reich Force, Amagi and Asgill would do these things to defeat the Ultimate Evil of the Multiverse.
Asgill will work with the ZSE until he defects to the CON remnants, and Amagi with work with the CON until she defects to the ZSE, for their jobs in helping the Trans-dimensional Resistance.
"Now, we shall execute the first phase. You will go to your initial points in this dimension, and I will go about in it informing the Versan, Zipangese, and this remnant of the CON. We shall meet again in due time. Godspeed to you all." finished Hawthorne. With a snap of his fingers, Asgill's and Amagi's worlds shifted back to familiar settings.
Asgill was back on Zipang Prime, sitting in a rather comfortable chair in his state room. He looked like he woke up from a nap. He was being served tea and other refreshments by droid servants. The door opened, revealing a cadre of figures in military uniform, Royal Guard garb by the looks of it. Another summons by the powers that be.
Meanwhile, Amagi was sitting in her cramped flagship quarters with the Deputy Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, the only real remaining civilian member of the old CON government. The Deputy Minister was laying quietly on his cot, holding his blanket. He was suffering from the shell shock of the last battle, a distant memory to Amagi now though only a few days before, amplified by the shock of the near-total loss of the civilian government.
But now there was someone new in charge, Admiral Magbaredge, to lead the remainder of the CON to not only survival but also renewal.
A general alarm sounded. By the yelling of the crew members running past the open door of the quarters, it sounded like another CON ship entered the general vicinity of the rump SDI fleet. She exited her room and looked out from one of the port windows in the next section of the ship. What she saw astounded her. It was an older class of colony ship, though re-purposed apparently by the Bengali officers and crew of an old frigate that was attached to it, providing power. It came onto the scene just as the ZSE flotilla made its formation around the rump CON-SDI fleet.
A few of the smaller class of tonnage of the ZSE fleet maneuvered out of the way as it exited its jump. A few space stations were in orbit around the gas giants, and come to think of it, there is a Bengali station out at Neptune. The ship and the frigate made its jump to the Jovian Trojans, no doubt hearing the smatterings of the remaining CON intelligence and communications network of the solar system.
"A fighting chance for our future." Amagi whispered to herself. More crew ran past her as the Bengali frigate powering the colony ship called Dhaka, came parallel to the Duty Bound's port side.
The flagship's PA system announced. "ANYONE WITH MEDICAL TRAINING AND KNOWLEDGE OF BENGALI LANGUAGES PLEASE REPORT TO THE CIC FOR INSTRUCTIONS." It repeated again. More refugees, sick and wounded. Hurt soldiers and sailors.
But it came out here to move on to the new life beyond the Milky Way. "A fighting chance."
