The Second Nigerian Civil War(Democritus only!)

Postby NPC Controller of Zackaroth » Tue Feb 13, 2018 1:46 am

Unresolved issues from the first civil war left Nigeria in a state of balanced chaos. Over the past year, the governments inability to get along has caused massive issues to go unattended. Now, three factions battle to gain control of the country while the CSN plots a military intervention to stop the chaos and finally bring order to Nigeria.

Factions

Name: The Islamic Caliphate of Nigeria(ICN)
Location: Northern Nigeria
Capital: Kano
Summary: Born from several groups within Northern Nigeria, the ICN proclaims it is a legitimate Islamic state. It also claims that the Middle East has fallen to non-believers and that the time for Islam to retake its place in the world is now. Using gurellia and terrorist tactics, these groups are eerily similar to the long gone terrorist factions of the 70s and 80s. They purposely plant IED in the roads and commit suicide bombings in non controlled settlements to put fear into people. Within their territory they are absolutely brutal to non-believers.

Women are taken as slaves, children as well. Those unwilling or unable are tortured or killed. Entire villages have been burned down, their people slaughtered for supposedly not following Islam. All young Muslim males are forced to join the army in some way and are heavily indoctrinated. The fact the ICN also allows its soldiers to loot and pillage enemy towns and militaries draws many of the young men willingly, most with families to feed. Sharia Law is to be enforced at all times and any deviation is met with harsh punishments.

Because the northern half of Nigeria remained relatively untouched by the first civil war, many of the weapon caches left to the Army are in the hands of the ICN. Many of these weapons are French or Zackarothian make. However, because some of these weapons are so advanced they are mostly used improperly and are not well maintained. They are still deadly. Their most dangerous weapons are some Zackarothian tanks and MANPADS to fire at enemy aircraft.

Northern Nigeria is not as well developed, limiting transport of goods and sub optimal communication. This also keeps the ICN from being a majorly cohesive unit. This does aid them however as ICN troops can blend in seamlessly with the local population and the jungle like terrain makes it easier to conduct ambushes.

Name: The Holy Nigerian Army(HNA)
Location: Southern Nigeria
Capital:Onitsha
Summary: In response to the increasing radicalization of Islam in the north, those who followed the Christian faith also began to radicalize. Unlike the ICN, they are much more cohesive and resemble a much more traditional military then a guerrilla insurgency. However like the ICN, they are not shy about committing war crimes to all degrees. Women are little more then property, children can be soldiers and non believers/sinners are killed by way similar to the Old Testament. The religious fervor is high amoungthe HNA as many of them believe they are God's chosen to cleanse Nigeria of non-Christian taint.

Like the ICN again, the HNA has foreign weapons in its inventory. Most their weapons are actually of South American origin, either in stock at the Nigerian military bases or stolen from the Communists in the Southwest. Their guns are their most dangerous weapons along with the South American MANPADS. They don't have access to any mobile infantry units from South America but have much more Nigerian tanks and the like when compared to the ICN. They have actual uniforms and some of their leaders were former officers.

They are also aided by the fact Southern Nigeria is much more well developed then the North, their control over the oil fields and better communications. However this is also their disadvantage as well as it makes them an easier target for an invasion since they are more similar to a traditional army rather then an insurgency group. Unlike the ICN, they don't have systems in place for loss of communication and are easily identified on the battlefield.

Name: Nigerian Socialist Republican Army
Location: South Western Nigeria
Capital: Lagos
Summary: The smallest but dubbed the toughest faction in the Nigeria, the NSRA was reformed after the country began to collapse in itself. Made up of veterans who fought in the last civil war, they are some of the toughest soldiers in Nigeria today. Having the only close to a functional government, the NSRA only controls a small section of the country, mostly Lagos and some of the outlying areas. They are constantly under siege from the HNA but have been able to repel each attack with minimal losses.

The NSRA strength comes from the fact it is not religious based and takes everyone into its ranks. They made up of most and ironically, tribes who refuse to give up their identity and those who support a Socialist government for Nigeria. However they do have some drawbacks. They are immensely suspicious of all outsiders and have refused CSN help, viewing them as capitalist backers and cronies who seek to ruin Nigeria further. They have become a lot more radicalized without a guiding force and have been purported to torture and even kill successful business major owners in Lagos, claiming their blood money fed this war. While not everyone who fled to Lagos supported the Nigerian Communist Party, they had best keep that to themselves as those who supported the other two are either cast out or worse for being traitors.

Though they only number around 40-50,000 strong, the NSRA is well versed in guerrilla and modern warfare. Lagos has become a fortress city and even some modern militaries may find a siege upon the city a nightmare. They are also the only faction to has an airforce. While it only about 20 aircraft strong, in a war where no else has a plane, they are useful. However because of the amount of MANPADS given in the last war, they are used sparingly and carefully.

Their greatest strength is also a large weakness. Being confined to one city means supplies are limited, both for the civilians and the military. Since nations are banned from sending aiding to any one group, the NSRA lacks the funds and power it had during the last war and its port sits empty.

In Kano, the city was suddenly rocked by the massive explosion of Italian missiles striking the Kano Central Mosque, where the ICN was based out of. The early morning prayer was viciously interrupted as the enter mosque exploded from the strike. Surrounding building where set ablaze or demolished. People ran and screamed as the chaos unfolded. ICN troops quickly flooded the area, regaining order. The damage was bad but had effected only the north eastern part of the city. More akin to a terrorist group then a real army, the Kano central Mosque had only been symbolic and the ICN leaders where safely stowed away else where in the city to prevent such an act from occurring. However, it did provide good propaganda. The destruction of a Mosque, especially during morning prayers was a powerful tool for recruitment. In the coming days they would use the video of the exploding mosque as proof the European powers where supporting a Christian Ethno state, since they didn't attack the HCN, despite flying over it. The attack lead to the deaths of 200-300 ICN members with around 70-100 civilian causalities that where in the area.

As the Italian planes flew back from their mission, their warning systems would be immediately going off. ICN troops in the jungle would attempt to shoot down the planes using their MANPADS. While the MANPADS where modernized, ICN troops were not true soldiers and had little to no training in using guide RPG missles, instead relying on the lock on feature to help bring down the Italian aircraft. Any surviving Italian aircraft that made it back into Southern Nigeria would soon find themselves targeted again, this time by HCN forces. Unlike the ICN, much of the HCN where trained military men. While not used to advanced MANPADS they where able to learn some of its more advanced features to strike down enemy aircraft that flew over its gains.

Operation Blackjack Commences

JSDF Special forces outside Forcados

The last thing the people of the small town of Forcados on the Nigerian Coastline expected was to wake up to an amphibious invasion, but it was what awaited them. At 0300 under the cover of darkness JSDF special forces teams deployed themselves on the beaches outside the town and secured the landing site for the transport vessels. Being so far from the fronts and any major cities they ran into no resistance and set up staggered scouting positions a mile inland and just outside the town. Next the teams cut communications with the town, preventing them from alerting the city of Warri of the incoming landings. At 0500 JSDF Huey helicopters launched targeted barrages at the towns Aiyetoro in the north and Brass in the south. The attacks hit the forested regions outside the towns and served to act as diversions for any HNA garrisons in the area. Lastly at 0530 the JSDF destroyers Agato and Tako launched missile strikes on Highway A2 and the Warri-Patanai Highway further delaying any actions by the HNA.

Image

At 0600 the first wave of CSN transports depart from the fleet and the landing craft hit the beaches at 0617 just as the sun begins to appear over the horizon. The first wave quickly lands ashore and pushes inward while the JSDF Special Forces isolate Forcados from the invasion and send a message to the people, stating that they will not attack the town and wish to negotiate a peace and terms to use the towns pier. While they are waiting the JSDF seabee divisions have begun deploying floating piers along the beach for larger transports to unload their troops. At 0730 the first vehicles land of the beach as JSDF Humvee make landfall, shortly followed by Seabee construction equipment.

In the skies the JSDF is maintaining air superiority via its helicopters deployed from the ONS Kaga and using anti-air emplacements from the escort ships. The JSDF currently has 1,200 of its 4,000 men on the beach and they have begun to set up a defensive line around Forcados and the beachhead until more CSN forces land.

Forcados, Nigeria

The CSN force had finally arrived. Japan launches two strikes, one at Aiyetoro and one at Brass. Aiyetoro didn't sound any alarms for the HNA as it was in NSRA territory. Brass was a different story and it was enough to get the HNA's attention provide a diversion. While it was true the town was far away from the main fighting, it was also an important area for the country for oil. The Forcados Oil Terminal was located just outside the city. About 200 troops were garrisoned in the town. The Japanese forces cut communication, the first sign something was wrong when people could no longer make telephone calls and the garrison could not make its morning update to higher ups.

When Japan sent a message, the HNA troops were stuck at a massive crossroads. 200 against 4,000 was a losing battle. But to give up would give the foreign powers a hold, and an important one at most. They all believed in the HNA cause and they viewed the other world powers of wanting to control Nigeria and her resources. The fact that they chose Forcados with its oil terminal was reason enough. After a few minutes of debating they decided what to do.

In response to the Japanese message, they would get one in return. The troops garrisoned in Forcados had retreated, too small to take on a force of that size and were heading into the jungle to try and reach Burutu. This was true...mostly. 100 men of the 200 men had headed east to Burutu. The other half instead snuck out of town and retreated to the nearby Oil Terminal.

At the oil terminal, oil was stored for eventually shipment to the outside world. A pipeline connected to it, allowing Nigeria to easily ship oil to other countries. However with the civil war it sat abandoned. The men quickly began opening the valves to ensure the tanks where at maximum capacity while other men began planting C4 charges on the base of the center drums. Once they where ready they began trying to retreat into the jungle, setting off the charges behind them...

The Oil Terminal violently exploded in the day time, sending a plum of smoke and fire into the air. The men who had set the charges weren't far enough and were completely vaporized in the explosion. Forcados itself was rocked, windows exploding, poorly built houses toppling over and people beginning to scream in fear. The entire terminal was up in flames, the other large drums now threatening to explode as well. Parts of the surrounding jungle where set ablaze, black smoke and fire covering the sky. If the CSN forces didn't do something soon the other drums would explode just as violently as the first one and level the town. The true war for Nigeria had begun.

Forcados, Nigeria
With plumes of smoke appearing through the jungle as fires spread from the exploding oil terminal, it soon became very clear that Forcados was in the path of the destruction. The JSDF jumped into action and began to evacuate civilians in the area while using patrol boats on the river to act as fire pumps. While it was not enough water to outright stop the fire it was enough to cool the adjacent tanks and contain the spread of the fire into town. While the fire fighting got underway the special forces unit advanced to join the bulk of the JSDF forces on land at the front lines. Meanwhile 500 JSDF troops occupied the town and began to distribute aid to any hurt by the fire or the explosion. Using the translators the JSDF troops try to explain to the local population that they are here to help the Nigerian people and end the civil war, not take their land and sovereignty from them.

While the JSDF forces around Forcados worked on containing the fires, the main force of 3,250 men and vehicles rolled off the beach and into the jungle. Type 74 tanks rolled into the treeline, making the very ground in front of them tremble. Artillery on the beach began to lob shells over the front line onto the retreating HNA forces that were headed toward Burutu. The forces advanced to three miles off the beach before stopping once more and digging in. The commander of the JSDF forces, General Minimata Shoju, has issued the order to prioritize securing the landing zone before giving chase to the enemy in the jungle. However, this doesn't stop the rain of shells on the jungle as JSDF mortars and artillery rain down steel on the enemy.

Meanwhile the CSN fleet begins to launch a second missile barrage, this time targeting the lines of communication surrounding Warri and the local area to buy as much time for the JSDF forces as possible before the main HNA Army arrives. On the beaches the floating Piers are now fully set up and concrete wall segments and bunkers and being trucked onto the beach to prepare to fortify the town once it has been secured.

While all of this is going on in Nigeria, on the other side of the world in Tokyo a new front has opened up in the conflict. The Japanese Cyber Force makes its debut by launching an information assault on the HNA. The JCF sends report after report to the HNA of false attacks all over the nation and false sightings of aircraft and warships all along the coastline. They do mention Forcados as a possible attack, but they make it appear as a minor skirmish with the main assault taking place off Oron.

Leopard 3v5s about to be launched into the Atlantic set for the Nigerian beach

CSN GUAF forces make it to Nigeria landing zone.

Today, after the oil explosion incident, CSN GUAF forces have landed in Nigeria. So far little has been done other than reinforce JSDF positions with 2000 marines and 30 Leopard 3v5 Tanks.

In addition to these forces, Super Carrier HMS Karjala along with her escorts have joined the Japanese navy and have launched fighters to maintain air supremacy over allied space.

Meanwhile on the transports in the Atlantic, the additional Tanks, AFVs and 15000 troops are making final preparations to join the established forces in Nigeria

Operation Blackjack- 4,000 soldiers arrive to back up JSDF

Today 4,000 Italian soldiers, COMSUBIN Special Forces units, mobile artillery units, numerous C1 Ariete tanks and other AFV's landed on the beach head established by the JSDF. They were dispatched from the Charles de Gaulle-class aircraft carrier ITS Sergio Mattarella and a mistral-class amphibious assault ship, part of a larger Italian fleet stationed off the Nigerian coast alongside other CSN naval forces.

The 2,000 soldiers and their vehicles advanced from the beachhead to join JSDF forces in Forcados to keep the peace and ensure that the town is further secure from attack from HNA troops. The soldiers are being supported by nEUROn Stealth UCAV's from ITS Sergio Mattarella that will monitor the jungle and any open land around Forcados using infrared cameras to identify any groups of possible HNA soldiers in hiding or planning an assault and will terminate them.

350 COMSUBIN Special Forces units have advanced past Forcados slightly further up the river to secure 2 small seemingly unnamed possible tribal villages that consist of only a few hundred people to ensure that they cannot be captured or used by the HNA to launch attacks on Forcados. A translator has travelled with the Special Forces to ensure that the people of the small villages are informed of the reasoning behind the stationing of foreign forces in their villages.

The remaining 1,650 soldiers on the beach head will set up a more permanent base camp just off the beach where the jungle is being cleared, from here naval transports will unload prefab buildings for use as a temporary HQ for the 4,000 forces. A few dozen of the 1,650 soldiers will be stationed in the 2 unnamed villages to replace the 350 COMSUBIN personnel as they return to the beachhead to be briefed on their next mission.

The Triangle made an official announcement following the deployment confirming that a further 20,000 soldiers are en-route to the CSN fleet off the coast of Nigeria and will remain there until they are called to land on the beachhead.

Official Message from the National Bolivarian Armed Forces of Puertollano

To Japan

We are currently aware of what could be considered an attack against the NSRA in Nigeria. Giving the Japanese Government and the Japanese Defence Force the benefit of the doubt, Puertollano will not intervene in protection of the NSRA. However, if such display of aggression is shown to allied forces on the ground, Puertollano will have no choice but to intervene in protection.

The National Bolivarian Armed Forces hopes there is not another incident similar to this.

Kind Regards, High General Hugo Chavez.

Forcados, Nigeria

The fires raged in the Oil Terminal but thanks to Japan, the fires were quelled. Sea Water pumped into the raging fires helped suppress it enough for the fire to burn itself out. The Oil Terminal itself was ruined but would not cause any further damage. Their aid was well received as well. The people of Forcados were not overtly repressed but many of them did not follow Christianity, instead following obscure African religions that where common in areas less modernized. When the HNA rolled in, they were all outlawed and any caught practicing "heathen" religions were killed. The town had been heavily damaged but thanks to the quick actions of Japan and the CSN there where no casualties.

They began bombing the jungle but with only 100 men out there, they might as well be looking for a needle in the haystack. Artillery shells thundered across the jungle, exploding tree lines and setting fire to the pristine landscape. However, while they got close they never struck the 100 men that escaped. Within the area the JSDF began cutting lines of communcation but southern Nigeria was much more modern then some people gave it credit for. While phone lines where down, internet and some mobile cellphone towers where still intact to allow communication between the HNA. The false flagging campaign did work to rile up the HNA into protecting towns on the coast line and force them to divert or maintain forces that could have been better spent elsewhere.

Discussion between the HNA High Command was tense. There was no way in a head to head battle could they win against the CSN. Instead they choose to reinforce important cities. They knew the CSN would have to go after the ICN as well and a protracted war against one side could force them out to go attack the ICN or stalemate them enough to force some sort of compromise. They also realized Warri seemed to be of interest to them so they began sending out their own recon forces. While the CSN forces did possess powerful weapons of war, they would soon find that anything not built for it, would find themselves bogged down in the swampy jungle or stuck in the very tight treeline. This area also made it excellent for ambushes as CSN forces would have to attack the town of Burutu to get to Warri or go around it and leave their flank exposed.

Meanwhile as German planes began to take control of the airspace they would find every once in awhile a guided shoulder fired rocket would launch up to try and take down one of their jets. The jungle helped conceal these small anti aircraft teams and they would be constantly moving.

Lagos, Nigeria

The 50 million dollars helped the NSRA a great deal. This allowed them to pay their soldiers and those dedicated to the cause. It was also used to purchase new small arms from the budding black market around Nigeria. While actually physical aid, in the form of weapons or such would have been better in their eyes, money had it uses as well.

Forcados, Nigeria

With the HNA now pulling back from the Area the JSDF began mop up operations and began building up the defense of the town. While the town had been moderately damaged, there had been minimal civilian casualties and those who had been injured were currently receiving medical attention from the JSDF. The JSDF forces advanced to a point three miles from the beach along the bank of a river flowing inland from the Forcados River. Once there the Seabees began to dig trenches and pile sandbags to make emplacements. 12.7 mm machine guns soon had dirt emplacements and tanks had mounds on dirt in front of them, showing only the turret of the tank and reducing the risk of a direct hit. A half mile behind them heavy machinery began to cut down the forest, creating a clearing. The longs that were cut were brought back to Forcados and set in another clearing by these machines. While this was going on a road network was being established, though the progress was being slowed by the muddy terrain. By D-Day+4 the JSDF Seabees division had established a rudimentary front line, road network, and beachhead for the CSN forces. However, the Seabees unit was not stopping there. Using the wood from the cut trees housing units were quickly established both for the Peacekeepers and for the townsfolk to provide shelter for everyone within the perimeter. Some of the burned structures in Forcados were rebuilt and those damaged were reinforced, creating an outreach with the locals.

Image
CSN Field Hospital

On D-Day+5 the front line got their first real defense when trucks from the container ship carrying cement pillboxes and bunkers arrived at the front line. Part of the Modular Base Program developed by the regular military these structures were quickly set up across the front line. A total of 32 pillboxes, 12 bunkers, and 12 miles of barbed wire were brought to the front line by the JSDF Seabees making the muddy oil town now a hardened target for any raids or small assaults. The JSDF plans to set up a wall as well to decrease the manpower needed to defend the beachhead and an airfield to launch larger fixed wing aircraft.

Image

While the Seabees were fortifying the beachhead, the rest of the JSDF began to offload the rest of their heavy equipment. With the emplacements now set up and the roadways now somewhat usable the heavier weapons were brought to the front. 15 type 74 tanks and 35 APCs, and 2,500 JSDF troops currently man what is being called the Forcados Line with heavy machine guns and shoulder launched rockets for both air and ground targets. A quarter mile behind the line are 20 155mm artillery units that have been shelling the forest for the past three days up to five miles from the front. These shells for the most part have been cheap tracer or dummy shells. This has been to zero in the artillery and train the crews to fire under in the environment as well as allow them to set reference points to zero in on targets.

Image

Meanwhile the 1,500 remaining JSDF troops have been reading themselves for combat and outfitting themselves and their vehicles for jungle combat. On the pier six JSDF patrol boats and ten transport vessels are gearing up for an assault on an undisclosed location.

Puertollano has decided to donate 10 million dollars to the Nigerian Socialist Republican Army,
pubically announcing its legally tenable position in the on-going Nigerian Civil War. As well as this, Military Advisers and a General has arrived in Lagos to help in organisation and planning new assaults against the Radical Islamist and Christian militants. Puertollano will be also conducting training with the Republican Army, teaching them military skills and survival skills.

Operation Supreme Gentleman Nighthawk

In the middle of the night, several UH-60 Black Hawks, guided by Japanese and North American stealth drones flew overhead, flying high and keeping a sharp look out given the circumstances. The drones would play a mix between a reconnaissance and defensive role. If the drones spotted ground troops with potential SAM weapons and so much as thought that they noticed the stealth aircraft in the air, they would open fire upon them and continue to rush through. If fired upon, they'd release some decoy flares, and the drones would bombard the now given away SAM position as the helicopters rushed through, though they'd definitely try to avoid this as much as possible, given how much they capitalized on stealth in this scenario. Of course, this wasn't the only thing lurking.

Many civilian drones that have been rigged with explosives, a select few with 9mm automatics, and basic night vision would be deployed with them, however they'd only be deployed when they were starting to get deeper inside the dense jungle. They would be sent to fly throughout the dense jungles below, searching and killing off enemy HNA troops that spot them, and focusing on any potential hidden HNA forces with SAM's, shoulder mounted or held, however they'd only be deployed when they were starting to get into the thick of the jungle and would need the ability to see better down below, and would only come back up for the most part when they were starting to get close. But overall, their main goal would to be to avoid detection and avoid making too much noise. But overall, their main goal would be to keep the HNA forces focused on the ground, not the air.

Assuming they do manage to get close and not get blown out of the sky, they'd head towards the location of the trapped politicians and soldiers, quickly attempting to get them on board so they can take off.

The trip from Forcados to New Karu would be a dangerous one. Luckily under the cover of night their chances at success where much higher. It would not be an east trip though. Separated by a whole country, the stealth copters made their way. HNA forces where not expecting aircraft that so deep in the country yet and many where focused around Warri rather then the path the evac team was taking so the first leg of the trip was an easy one. However, things would take a turn for the worst.

Getting to New Karu would mean passing between Agbor and Onitsha or Asgbor and Benin City. All three of these cities had a heavy presence in and around the city. No matter which way they took, they would be made. HNA troops would spot them quick enough and mobilize, calling that unknown enemy helicopters had been spotted. They began firing their MANPADS, not expecting the decoy flares or the drone bombings that soon followed afterwards. The civilian drones with handguns didn't do much. The dense forest in the area plus the recoil would make the drones inaccurate at best. But they where an annoyance that had to be dealt with.

If the helicopters made it past the choke point, they indeed would have been made but the HNA lacked radar and could only spot things by sight. They would give chase but but most likely end up looking in the wrong directions or not quick enough to catch up with any surviving Helicopters. From there they would face some resistance but not much. Nobody knew where to look and everyone believed it was going to be a massive strike team, not a rescue force.

Things would again take a turn for the worse. The Helicopters would see a fleeing HNA army leaving the area of New Karu. In the city itself, an army of around 500 ICN soldiers, trying to push forwards and claim more ground. The congressmen where taking shelter in the Mararaba General Hospital as their loyal troops tried to defend them from enroaching forces. The entire city was a mess, bombed out and smoking. It was right in the middle of No Man's Land and thus had seen some of the most brutal fighting of the war and never was held by any one side for long. The extraction team would have to be quick. The ICN had not noticed such a small force yet but it would as it send teams to try to get to hospital to grab much needed medical supplies.

Meanwhile in Lagos...

NSRA commanders listened to the HNA frequencies. They where able to hijack them weeks ago and used them to spy on troop movements. This new report however interested them. Helicopters had been seen flying towards New Karu. It had taken awhile but it clicked in their heads. Someone was trying to rescue the old government pawns. This did not sit well with the NSRA. The old government, even the communist party, had been completely inefficient in running the country. If they where rescued it may prevent the NSRA from being seen as the legitimate government they believed they where. They had to take action...but how? They had the smallest territory and where not near the city.

Well...they did have one option.

New Karu

The North American rescue team would rush the hospital. One of them, being a multilingualist, would quickly shout in throughout the Hospital that ICN forces were closing in on the building and that they were coming to evacuate them. The remaining civilian drones, with explosives strapped to them, would rush the ICN forces coming towards the hospital, flying towards, from their left, from their right, and flying from above and behind them. Due to them being in a more urban and open environment, their night vision would at least allow them to see their positions much more clearly and perhaps blow up enemy positions more accurately. The stealth drones would unload their missiles onto the largest concentrations of ICN soldiers, but not before most of them relocating themselves a bit away from the hospital with only a few, but enough, maintaining their position at the hospital. Soldiers outside would get themselves into hidden, ready positions to open fire on the remaining ICN troops should they dare advance, but in between this, the remaining civilian drones with their pistols would be sent off in different flanks further away from the hospital. Their pistol was arguably their greatest strength as well as their greatest weakness; they'd open fire from different positions to throw the ICN soldiers off as to where they're being attacked from and where their attackers are. Meanwhile, the Politicians and as many soldiers as they could without leaving any North Americans behind would be piled onto the Helicopters; any that had to be left stranded were given directions as to where to go to reach Forcados. The Helicopters would quickly take off, and the drones would continue to barrage and keep the heat on the ICN soldiers for as long as they possibly could, only enough departing to properly defend and escort the helicopters; keeping a close eye on the ground, and deploying whatever few civilian drones they had left into the dense jungles to be used as cannon fodder to distract potential hidden ICN or HNA troops on the ground. The helicopters would fly out of No Man's Land and into ICN territory, but would avoid as many roads and open urban areas as possible and keeping themselves flying high and using the night as their cover. They'd fly into Cameroon, assuming all went well. (According to France) When the North Americans quickly notified the Cameroonians they'd be flying helicopters through their airspace but only temporarily to avoid getting shot down, and the Cameroonians would allow it, namely because the North American aircraft would be quickly met with French air-forces, most notably jet aircraft to bolster the escort, and escort the North American aircraft out of Cameroon and lead them out through to Cameroonian waters. They'd quickly fly through using the cover of Cameroonian territory, and a helicopter carrier and a few destroyers and frigates would meet them shortly outside Cameroonian waters. They'd land on the Helicopter carrier and simply leave as soon as they landed, readying all anti-air and anti-ship defenses, including HELLADS systems, not trusting that any particular faction would try something as they left, and knowing what kind of precious cargo they were carrying. They'd depart straight for the NAF.

New Karu.

The CSN forces began their landings on the roof of the medical center. What followed was a bloodbath. The ICN forces where investigating the noise when they where fired upon, 20 of them killed by drone fire. This sparked a massive attack as the rest of the 500 hundred began converging on the area. Drone and Rocket fire exploded in the night air. The CSN forces had one major advantage, the hospital was located in a large field with the city to the north. The ICN forces couldn't advanced into the open field without getting slaughtered, so they where forced to stay back and stay in the cover of the city's buildings, firing at the copters. One solider was able to stay hidden in the building and fired a rocket at a Helicopter that had just landed to pick up a group of congress men before his building was destroyed by a drone rocket. The smaller drones exploded in the city, again keeping the ICN back.

15 minutes in, only a few more left for the CSN is when things would take a turn for the worse. The ground shook as 3 massive, Zackarothian Overlord tanks crashed through the line and began approaching the evac site. They where massive, slow and unwieldy. But the terrain was perfect. The Overlord tank was an experiement by Zackaroth to create a large, mobile tank with heavy armor and heavy guns. It didn't fit their needs and the few they had where sold off. These had been given to Nigeria during the last war. Their armor was tough enough to shrug off a few of the drone missiles and they stayed far enough apart to prevent cluster fire. One of them was equipped with a gattling gun that was inaccurate but self reloading and able to be controlled from within the tank. The gattling gun fired into the air, shooting at all the protecting drones while its the guns from it and the two other cannons fired at the hospital and them right at the landing sight. These 6 ZPT 125m cannons shot of thunderously, their shells turning the ground into craters. Worse of all, the 300 ICN troops left all charged in a suicidal banzi like attack to overwhelm anyone left on the ground and fire into the sky.

Only 48 of the 100 soliders could fit on the plane. They had promised to guard the rightful government of Nigeria and so they did. The 52 two left went one step beyond. They created a perimeter, around the evac site. Their guns blared as they tried to hold off the advancing forces and give the CSN the time they needed to escape. If the CSN forces survied this onslaught they would be ten minutes out when the next and arguably biggest problem hit.

---
NSRA quickly had it pilots load up 15 planes. 5 of them where old Chengdu F-7's. The F-7's where the first to fly out but they where little more then sacrificial lambs. They where escorting a much more bigger threat. Orostani EE-2 fighter planes. They roared across the sky, the F-7's enaging any HNA forces that tried to go a kill. Somewhere shot down, others kept going to renage enemy postions. The EE-2's where fast and went unhindered as their allies bought them time and protection. If they where going to die, it was going to be for the Socialist Republic.
---
The surviving CSN forces would be 10 minutes out of the city when all of sudden their missile alerts would be going off. From the night sky, came the 10 EE-2's. Targeting the CSN copters they fired well out range of their weapons, seeking to destroy the entire convoy in one go. Then they noticed the drones as well. Drones that went after the EE's would find themselves outmatched in speed and skill. Their was no way a drone could keep up with a veteran pilot and they would try to outmaneuver and destroy the drones with their guns, saving their guide missles for the CSN copters. The pilots fought without any caution or care about their own safety. They where completely ready to die for their vision of Nigeria to succeed. Missiles fired and once exhausted they would attempt insane maneuvers to shot the helicopters down with their guns and if need be...ram their jets right into the air convoy. The NSRA was making it clear they would do anything to win this war.

General Castro, the Puertollanoan military advisor to the Nigerian Socialist Republican Army on the ground in Lagos was quick to react to the scenario. He swiftly made his way to High Command, giving advice straight from Puertollano. “Puertollano advises you not to attack those helicopters. We have reason to believe they are sanctioned by the North American Federation, and unless you want a 3-way war, we suggest that the soldiers do not launch their assault. We understand that the corrupt officials must go, but this is not they way to go about it.”

Sharp End PMC Spotted!

Image
Possible Australian soldiers, serving in Nigeria

LAGOS- Several photographs taken by an anonymous source have been uploaded into the web, showing what appears to be Australians in military gear with the Sharp End International logo in their shirts. The photos were supposedly captured in Murtala Muhammed International Airport at around 2AM in the morning of September 3, with the contractors, more than a hundred can be counted from the picture, disembarking the aircraft transport. The pictures have been uploaded to various social media websites and has caused a frenzy across the world, due to the still unknown reason as to why Australia military contractors are in Nigeria. It can be remembered 4 months ago that the government of Australia and Sharp End International had agreed to a deal that sparked interest among groups, especially after reports surfaced of the possibility of Australia using PMCs to interfere in foreign wars.

22 hours after the pictures waere posted in the internet, the government of Australia denied in a press conference of the government's participation and involvement in the PMCs being deployed in Nigeria and reiterated its commitment to staying neutral from the various conflicts across the globe. The government spokesperson, Jonathan Natles, also told press that the government only supports peaceful means in the Nigerian conflict and the Australian government would happily send aid. This statements however come as a direct opposite to prior statements of the government which in prior months had expressed its intentions of strengthening and helping the Socialist factions in Nigeria. This and the spotting of the PMCs in Nigeria have more than given several people evidence that the Australia government is using PMCs to help, aid and support the NSRA in the Nigerian conflict that is still being fought bitterly by several factions.

After takeoff from a base near Garoua, two groups of Rafales had been waiting away from radar on the Cameroon side of the border supported by a tanker plane while the American helicopters had been sent to New Karu. They timed their incursion into Nigeria so that they would meet up with the American forces as they started to withdraw. The Confederation pilots had been told that their mission was of great importance, and that as a consequence they could expect hostile anti-aircraft presence to be felt - however, they had not expected the message they received as they approached their escort target; coalition satellites had detected that socialists warplanes had been being readied for operations, and that by now they could be anywhere in Nigeria. Despite their professionalism, there was some nervousness felt by the crews of the escort mission; it was suspected that the socialists were using fifth generation aircraft. If their enemy chose to do so, they would be spotted long before the Rafales could hope to identify them on radar, and knock the Europeans out of the skies before they knew what was happening. They would not stand much of a chance in such a case. However, by engaging the Rafales the socialists would be forced to take the heat off of the helicopter teams and thus give them more time to reach the safety of Cameroon. However, if the socialist jets were fixated upon the helicopters, it would mean the Rafales would be able to get close enough that their missiles might be able to have a chance at medium ranges, or even closer so that their infrared missiles could be utilized, followed by their guns if required. Either way however, the aircraft would need to actually reach their beleaguered allies if they were to make any sort of difference. To achieve this, the two flights of planes utilize their specialized electronic warfare jamming suites to provide an insurance against SAMs.

The Socialist planes had detected the French planes coming in. They knew this would be their only chance to fully destroy the old government. Luckily some Chengdu F-7 had survived their blocking runs and made way for the French Aircraft. 3 of them made their way and while they would no doubt be behind, they would provide a dangerous distraction to the French. Meanwhile the NSRA planes began to close ranks, purposely moving in closer to the American helicopter convoy, hoping to stave off the Rafael's out of fear they may hit their own allies. It showed just how suicidal and committed(depending on your point of view) they where.

In a Bunker in Lagos

" We understand your concern General Castro but this is the best chance we have at this" one the NSRA generals said. There was too much riding on this and it was too late to call it off.

State of Nigeria((Assume this to have happened after the decided outcome of the attack))

The ICN

The ICN suffered a large set back after the failed attack on New Karu. Due to the amount of forces they lost, they could stop a push back by the the HNA. However, they are holding steady and still face no massive opposition within their lands. Military forces in Niger have reported ICN incursions on their borders, sparking fears the ICN may be trying to expand outside of Nigeria. Its also been reported they are now conscripting male children into their ranks to replace those lost at New Karu.

The HNA
The HNA had a good push, despite CSN forces taking parts of their land. The CSN has not made a concentrated effort to expel the HNA or fight them head. This has allowed the HNA to continue their push towards Abuja. However, this push was turned into a Pyrrhic victory as the NSRA took their shot at continuing their own push into their territory. The HNA may be on the verge of taking Abuja but even they do, it will not end the war in they way they hoped.

The NSRA
The NSRA is now obviously being funded by outside sources. Their troops are well trained and seem to have help from some sort of forgien state as they launched an attack on HNA controlled Ogbomosho. They completely annihilated the HNA forces within the city and scattered them. The NSRA now has made large territory gains and many Nigerians fleeing the violence are rallying under their cause, swelling their numbers to unseen levels. Liberated cities and villages are starting to see them as the legitimate government and unless the CSN does something soon, any attempt to remove them may lead to a popular revolt against the CSN.

More aid for the NSRA

Image
The NSRA slowly turns into a conventional force as aid and material come from Australia

CANBERA- With the National Socialist Republican Army proving to be effective in terms of organizational structure and security, the Australian government is more than ever willing to send more aid and needed materials to help the NSRA efforts of bringing stability to the war-torn country. However, it not just aid that the country will be sending to the NSRA, but also technical advisers to help create a working government services program as well as establish a government structure that involves hiring civil service professionals. This is in order for the NSRA governed territories to have their citizens have running water, electricity, waste disposal, healthcare and several more key agencies in order for them to continue in their normal lives while battles rage on the frontiers. More than 100 advisers will be sent, with a security detail to be hired from Sharp End international. Along with the advisers to be sent will be Captain Richard Clark and Captain Luis Roppel of the Australian Army, they will be helping form and train police units of the NSRA as well as advise NSRA military leaders in their objectives.

AS the NSRA continue their offensives and battles, the 2 Australian Captains have been ordered, according to various sources within the Australian military, to focus on clearing out the HNA due to it being reportedly committing heinous war crimes on children and women. However, mixed into the discussion was because the HNA was rich in oil deposits and is easier to access, with it relatively close to sea and adjacent to the NSRA with good roads, worth mention was the possibility of a amphibious assault by either the NSRA itself or foreign units on the HNA.

Military Aid

Military Aid and field testing with the Nigerian Socialist Republican Army

4 Canberra-class landing ships are now stationed just off the cost of Nigeria, although the Neboan government admits to having contract and relations with the Nigerian Socialist Republican Army they refuse any claims that they are giving support. Neboan military officials have said when confronted that actions taken in Nigeria are classified and are purely in the interest of the homeland not in Nigerian rebels.

Another shipment to the NSRA?

Image
A T54 transport aircraft, one of Australia's largest aircraft prepares to leave

CANBERA- With the CSN still voting for the proposal regarding the delivery of aid and material, the Australian government had greatly rushed the sending of the second shipment of aid to the NSRA before the proposal would be passed. The sent shipments were sent via plane through the same route as before. The sent shipments were not disclosed to media, although it was said to either contain more food cans or more ammunition that last for 6 months. About 8 transport planes, 2 of which were T54s, able to carry 100 tons each, were sent in September 17 fully loaded in order to arrive in Lagos in within a day a half.

The government expressed its dismay on the proposal in its latest statement to the CSN.

The Second Nigerian Civil War

By JORGE MERLO

In Nigeria, there is currently a three-way civil war occurring, between radical Islamic and Christian factions and a socialist faction. The FSR has been uncharacteristically quiet about the war, despite past involvement in the previous Nigerian Civil War. This, however, was not due to indifference or apathy, but rather the preparation of aid. The FSR has sent a large number of humanitarian volunteers and groups, along with food and water supplies, and various other infrastructure-related materials. The Federation has also begun sending social groups and advisers, along with volunteer teachers in order to increase quality of life in the war-torn area, along with donations of up to 10 million dollars. Most, if not all, of this aid is being sent to the National Socialist Republican Army, which is the only faction involved that has not committed heinous war crimes. These aid programs are working in conjunction with those of the Federation's ally, Australia.

Some have claimed that anti-aircraft guns and other weapons have arrived with the new humanitarian aid through arms smugglers. The Federation government claims no involvement in such military aid, although many have theorized a connection.
