In 1972, Letheny's most rebellious colony, Australia, was granted freedom after a 14-year long war of independence. King Ran, the monarch of the time, simply felt it was no longer possible for Letheny to maintain the colony, and faith in the Empire's power dropped. The next two decades would be marked by a general spirit of rebelliousness. Letheny and her Royal Army remained vigilant for any colonies seeking independence. Finally, at the turn of the century, the rebellious spirit died out quietly and was forgotten quickly.
Upon King Ran's assassination in 2017, his son, then Prince Luka, was crowned the new King. This ambitious king proved he was a master of warfare, who could put down any threat or enemy of Letheny anywhere across the globe. With a glorious victory in China, and two grand victories in Africa, the new King and his strong nationalist rhetoric brought the Lethen Empire to a new, ferocious level of might. His sights of glory eventually turned to the old colony of Australia.
This conquest would be an incredible feat to pull off. The Lethen Australians were some of the most ferocious rebels Letheny had ever faced, and now they would face them oncemore, albeit these rebels were now proper soldiers. Horrific terrain and monstrous wildlife would be an icky obstacle for the Lethen invaders, and so evidently this took planning. Luka, in fact, had been planning this conquest for a rather long time now. Australia's coast towards the Lethen colony of Aotearoa was blocked off by mountains, which meant a longer trip. Fortunately, the Lethen territory of Melanesia (IRL Papua New Guinea and a bunch of islands to the east) was practically a strait away from Australia.
Lethen forces were aware of this, and planned accordingly. They knew that this is where the Australians would expect an attack, and so could not make the peninsula their main invasion location. It was also obvious that the Australians knew Letheny would opt to not attack through the mountains. A massive array of Lethen naval invasions and paradrop operations were readied and planned out. Finally, in the dead of night, timed so perfectly, the Lethens attacked.

Pictured: Red dots are paratroopers dropping. Each paradrop numbers about 17,000 men. Each red arrow is a Lethen movement (over water, obviously meaning an amphibious attack).
Lethen soldiers stormed the coasts of Australia with staggering speed, and paratroopers came from the skies and landed ahead of Lethen troopers. The paratroopers formed defensive lines, and the main armies began pushing to link up with the paratroopers. However, some paratrooper operations were only there to capture small pockets, like the small pocket of non-mountainous land in Tazmania. Within 12 minutes of the attack, Australian forces were alerted and began to mobilize. Within 30 minutes, news of the invasion appeared on news channels all over the world.
