Empires at War 1914 (Closed)

Map: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=rou ... /id=953191

It is the summer of 1914. After centuries of colonialism and aggressive expansion, the great powers of Europe grow more fierce in competition everyday. The Holy Empire of Routcher spreads its reach into Africa, controlling rich oil fields and the all-important Suez Canal. If it is not stopped soon, it will control all of Northern Africa. The Empire has also expressed a promise to guarantee the independence of the lands of Hesseburg-Aschaffen, Jurgenborg-Bjorgynbeck, and Gotesbourg; meaning any attacks against those small nations will bring Routcher into war. So far, the only major friend Routcher has is Estovlaka, whose Emperor has proposed an alliance.

As each day passes, tensions grow higher. Who will challenge Routcherian imperialism? Who will take advantage of the smaller, less prepared kingdoms? Will the decidedly-neutral nations of Spain, West Ukraine, and the Southern European Confederation remain safe from aggressive expansion? Only time, and the will of the great Empires, will tell.

Saint Mary, Routcher
The Emperor, Alexander III, glanced at his large world map; his commanders and advisers at his side. He smiled, for soon he would be the Emperor of all of Africa, and the entire world would be at his mercy. However, he couldn't let himself get carried away. He knew he had an already large empire as it was, and he needed to be methodical to not sacrifice it just for oil. He considered this: he had the quickest route to the Indian Ocean (and the Pacific Ocean) under his control. The only real threats to his total domination of the Mediterranean Sea was the United Kingdom of Bumbernickle, and the Queendom of New Cyrenaica. He wasn't necessarily wanting to go to war with them, but he knew that if he wanted to remain the top power at sea, he would need to move more ships near those nations to protect his interests.

Malta
The HMS King Desmond, a massive Dreadnought and the flagship of Admiral Joseph N. Ingram, as well as an escort of three Destroyers, came fast upon the island of Malta, a territory of [nation]The Ivaland[/region]. The crew aboard the bridge sent the following message to the port in Malta:

"This is the HMS King Desmond of the Imperial Rouctherian Navy. We have orders to patrol the waters around your island, and also to inspect any suspicious vessals that come by us. Do not be alarmed, we have no ill intent towards you or your people."

The Admiral let a small sweat gather on his forehead before wiping it away and sending the message. He wasn't sure if the Emperor was serious about being peaceful, but he followed his orders in full faith anyway.

Palestine
"Well, it's true that the Queendom thinks of Palestine as it's territory," General Hugh Kites said to the local governor of Palestine, "but I look around here and I don't see any soldiers from Cyrenaica, do you? I only see my own men here. And who do you trust more to keep you safe from foreign dangers? The soldiers that aren't here, or the soldiers that are right here next to you?"

"With respect, General, we here in Palestine consider you to be the foreign danger. My loyalty is to the Queen, even if there are no soldiers here at the moment. I shall not betray my Queen and surrender my people to your armed Routcherian thugs," was the reply of the angered governor.

"Very well," the General said calmly, "Me and my boys will head back to our base, and we'll tell the Emperor of your reply. I'm sure you'll have nothing to worry about, however. He's a reasonable man," he taunted, "just try to remember that misplaced loyalty and a bit of anger doesn't save you from me. One way or another, Palestine will have our flag waving over it." He left the office and got into his car to return to his base.
Long Live Emperor Tywin II!

Patriciast City, The Grand Senate of Heidenstaf

At the direction of Emporer Robert C Lee IV, Supreme Chancellor Shirtless Kylo Ren is presenting a speech to the Grand Senate of Heidenstaf

"Today my brothers," He begins, "We stand at the edge of an era! For over one hundred and fifty years we have fought for and conquered what is now known as the Greater Caucasian Empire with the blood of young Heidenstafian men and the hands of all true peoples of Heidenstaf! However, this world is changing. It seems that God now wishes for a cleansing of our rhetorical ways and our new world order. The Anatolians to the south, yes the men we used to call our brethren in times of strife, have sternly renounced all calls of decency and normalcy of the human spirit. I have heard the news you shall now bear witness to... on the day of our Lord June the first of this year a grand crime on our blood was committed: three hundred men, women, and children of our patrimony were murdered in their realm for a non-felonious crime of any sort, the human urge of liberation. In the border town of Yurkisandt, these peoples were attempting to petition our Empire to acknowledge them as a legal right of the Great Heidenstaf, but the Anatolians could not bear it. Neigh, they resented it with the urge of purgatory's flames! These heathens had the sense to abide by the devil's words and attack this innocent livestock of freedmen to fearmonger an oppressive regime into their locality. I do not propose war, I despise war, but I do demand recognition of this heinous crime in our fair and apostolic assembly!"

As the Supreme Chancellor concludes his speech, none could hear above the roaring coalescence of cheering and debating

NOTE: In referring to the Anatolians, I am talking about the player of Turkey: New Cyrenaica

Sofia,
June 6th, 1914

Today, Prince Alonso II was driven through the streets of Sofia as part of an official state visit to the South European Confederation. The route was guarded by armed police, deployed after threats were made against the Prince’s life in the weeks leading up to the visit. It was clear to see, no expense was spared on the protection of the visiting monarch.

Fortunately, the visit went as planned, with crowds cheering as the prince waved from his open topped car. He subsequently viewed a military parade, where more than 3000 confederate soldiers took part, along with a small number of Heffburgian troops.

After meeting with the confederate head of state, the prince was invited to make a short speech. He remarked on the beauty of Sofia, and the welcome reception he recieved. He concluded with “The South European Confederation has, and always will be one of our closest friends.”

Prince Alonso II is expected to visit various other confederate cities in the coming days, before returning to his palace on the outskirts of Budapest.

A spokesman for the royal family, when asked if this was the beginning of a formal alliance said: “We are alike culturally and linguistically. Thus, it is only reasonable that we should strengthen mutual ties, to ensure the security of both our great nations, now and in the future.”

The Emporers Personal Library

Enter the Supreme Chancellor and Praetor of Heidenstaf

"Your Highness, I have yet to hear from those Anatolian fiends of the south; what are my orders?" Shirtless Kylo Ren questions. "First off, I'm not a pothead so don't call me 'Highness'; you know I hate that" sputters the Emporer, "Anyhow, have they seriously ignored us?! We practically procure a Casus Belli on them, insulted their leader and called them heathens! What more should we do?"

"Well sir" begins the Praetor, Tims Podgeworth, "We did work up one plan to strong-arm these pansies..." The older man seemed to say with a conniving grin. "Our idea is to send the Imperial Grenadiers to the border town and *ahem* 'confiscate' their local government facilities, as well as arm the local pro-Heidenstaf militias with any *AHEMMM* 'liberated' weapons from the town garrison."

After a few moments of contemplation, the Emporer remarked: "Do you have a cold coming on, Tims? Ah well, the plan is sound, tell My grenadiers to prepare their gear and prepare my warhorse. I shall move with my men on the morn'!"

After consecutive bows, the two high ranking men exit the extravagant library with a jump in the step of men prepared to fight...

Approximately 100 miles from Sankt Dölstfurt, Volausia

The Volausian Emperor Frederick V sat on his horse with several distinguished generals of the Imperial and Royal Army by his side.
"Cold this morning, your Majesty," one of the generals remarked.
"Mmm," the Emperor nodded, "cold... and hard." The group sat in silence. A storm was coming - the storm of war.

The uneasy silence was finally broken when the Emperor turned his General of the Calvary. "I believe it's time, General."
"Indeed, your Majesty," the General replied, "it is time."

As the Emperor and his accompanies began to ride back towards the capital, the General murmured, "Time, indeed..."

It’s getting close to winter in Africa. A Prince looks out he looks at his countries sunset border with the Rochterians from his capital. All of a sudden a man comes in to the door. Prince Sizwe Rochterians arming the borders. The Prince turns around relooks out his window then says ‘These People should have never left there own land’ he takes a break and looks at his map on his wall and looks back at the man and comments again. ‘Prepare the men we will not let any empire take us.’ Before the man runs to tell the royals advisors he asks ‘Should I contact any of our allies’ ‘Yes call the ambassadors from Axelsson and Itcattli they’ll have bias against colonization and help us’ So the man leaves. The Prince looks out his window he sheds a tear then thinks ‘Why did these people need to mess up our way of life, why can’t you just leave our way of life alone, why is a question every man in his kingdom asks. So as he gets ready for a night he has one thought. War is Coming.

A warm summer night settles over Glemician city. From a distance it seems almost as if a soft glow and a dull murmur are coming off of the city. At the heart of the Imperial Seat, King Jakobi Nickleston overlooks the chaos of his city on fire.
"These Sceonese rebels are getting quite far for Northern peasant dairy farmers," mutters the King, "Never in our history have the people formed together like this! And under what standard but that of the Duke of Sceon? That dimwitted, backwater, refuse spilt off from my noble house!"
Enraged the King stands and goes to prepare himself to make a most desperate, humiliating plea.

After sending his telegram to the neighboring Empire of Routcher begging the aid of Emperor Alexander IV, the King sits down to dine, but soon finds his appetite ruined by the pungent northern cheeses being served.

"My friend, King Jakobi," the response telegram begins, "I would be greatly pleased to assist you in your time of need. As you are reading this, I have sent the Kory Brigade of 4,000 men to your kingdom, and I have instructed Colonel Huey Cross to place himself and his Brigade under the control of your Army command. Use them as you will. I am also sending a fraction of my Home Fleet into the Irish sea, to provide security against possible rebel ships. These ships will remain under my Navy's command, but will work closely with your Navy. Once we have stabilized your provinces, there are other things we will discuss, but let's just say I dream of a future where our great nations may rule the world as friends and allies. -Alexander III"

As that message was being sent, the Routcherian Navy was put on high alert near Gibraltar. Admiral Ingram, still near Malta, had sent a message to the ships patrolling near Gibraltar: "New orders from Saint Mary lads. The Nations of North Africa appear to be turning hostile. Hold your position for now, and be on alert for Npho and Iccahtli ships. I will be sending other ships to Algiers as the Imperial African Army begins readying itself for combat. Good luck."

Now, with the Army and the Navy mobilized into a position to go to war with Npho and Iccahtli (if things went south), tensions were higher than ever.

A courier from the Intelligence office slowly enters the Emperor's chamber

"Good morning your highness, i'm sorry to disturb you sir, but, It appears that many of our neighbors have begun to mobilize their armies," he mutters. "Our generals are asking how you, our beloved Emperor, would like them to respond."

The Emperor rises from his bed, and looks over the Imperial Gardens

"Send out an Imperial decree: All able bodied men are to register at their local conscription office. As for the general's orders, he is to send all available forces to defend our borders in the south and in the east. The time has come..."

Noble Governorate of Malta, The Ivaland. June 7, 1914

In response to the message sent by Admiral Joseph N. Ingram of "the Routcher Navy", Dogue Governor of Malta "Antonie W. Richelieu" convened the Noble Council of Government of Malta to discuss this matter.
In the end, they made the decision to give permission to the Routcher Navyto patrol the area; but as there was no full confidence, they restricted the landing and lodging on the island for the sailors. They knew that, on the one hand, if the Emperor Alexander III told the truth and had no evil intentions, apart from patrolling the island, they would be protected from the barbaric attacks of Africa; on the other hand, they could try to take a coup d'etat and take over Malta, closing the western Mediterranean for The Ivaland.
Discreetly and without commenting to anyone, Commander Mark L.L. of the Malta Guard ordered the government palace custiodar and strengthen security in Puerto La Vallette.

Immediately, they secretly sent a message by telegraph to New Philippi, to communicate what happened to His Highness, the Prince monarch of The Ivaland Emmanuel II.

A Message from His Imperial Volausian Majesty's Minister of War

To the esteemed government of Estovlaka,
The Volausian Minister of War, on behalf of HIM Emperor Fredrick V, would like to request a military partnership between the Estovlakan Armed Forces and the Volausian Imperial and Royal Army in a united effort to preserve all that is imperial, all that is holy, and all that is Germanic against those who wish to tear apart our way of life. Volausia extends a welcoming hand to the emperor and Armed Forces of Estovlaka to join us in this heroic effort at our most desperate hour.

The Veidus Times
June 8th, 1914

In response to the actions of the ever aggressive Volausia, Prince Alonso II today decreed for limited conscription of the populace, with 20% of able-bodied, prime-aged men required to enlist. The minister for war has said “this is a neccesary step towards the protection of our homelands, securing ourselves against foreign aggression.”

The decree is set to raise the raise the number of enlisted soldiers to 1.7 million men, a reasonable increase on the previous standing army of 1 million. Although the armies of Heffburg are not fully mobilised, it is plain to see that Heffburg is readying itself for war.

These newly enlisted troops are to be predominantly stationed on the Heffburgian-Volausian border. The production of materiel is also set to increase, with the ministry of war planning the construction of 2 large munitions factories in the east of the country.

An Envoy from the War Department enters the Imperial Library. The Emperor is sitting on his favorite chair, reading next to the window.

"Good morning your highness. We received a telegram from the Volausian Minister of War, and we thought you would like to hear it at once."

After an awkward silence, the Emperor looks up from his book.

"Alright then, what does it say."

The Envoy begins to read the telegram aloud

" *Ahemm* The Volausian Minister of War, on behalf of HIM Emperor Fredrick V, would like to request a military partnership between the Estovlakan Armed Forces and the Volausian Imperial and Royal Army in a united effort to preserve all that is imperial, all that is holy, and all that is Germanic against those who wish to tear apart our way of life. The Emperor rises from his chair, and paces back and forth across the library

"An Alliance could be arranged, tell the Minister of War to telegram me here. I would like to go over the details personally."

"At once, your highness."

The Envoy takes a long bow, and leaves.

Yesterday in the harbors of Sochi, Emporer Robert C. Lee IV was overheard by his Minister of War, saying: "Damn, I wish we had a cool warship like those Routcharians... I'm not trying to compensate for anything, I just wanna go on vacation on a badass ship one day."
In response to this, the Minister of War has created a new Department of the Navy with only 5 officers and 150 sailors as well as one new purchased light cruiser christened "The ol' Rust Bucket". The cruiser is armed with three 95mm cannons and two 75mm cannons.
The Emporer's only response to this was: "Oh cool, now I can go on... Vacation... In Malta with Routcher now..."
We will know more on this story as it plays over.

His Majesty King Jakobi sighs as he finishes reading the telegram he's just received.
"This is the biggest disgrace my house has seen since the Great Folly…" he mutters, "to require Routcherian aid in putting down such peasants! The shame of it! Not to mention the position this puts Glemica in, I will be in debt to His Imperial Majesty, a position I find most abhorrent!"
Standing His Majesty storms out of the room to telegram General Werstings who is pushing north from the Caraxian province against the Sceonese rebels. His Majesty's telegram reads:
***
WERSTINGS (STOP) SITUATION IN NORTH WORSENING (STOP) ROUTCHERIAN AID IS BEING SENT (STOP) PLEASE CORRESPOND WITH COLONEL HUEY CROSS OF THE ROUTCHERIAN BRIGADE (STOP) TIME LIMITED (STOP)

HM
***
In Southern Glemica, General Werstings receives His Majesty's telegram, and, with rejuvenated vigor, sets out to telegram Colonel Cross.
***
CROSS (STOP) PLEASE CUT THROUGH SCEON (STOP) SCOTLAND (STOP) THEN MOVE INTO IRELAND TOWARDS GLEMICIAN CITY (STOP) OUR TROOPS WITH MOVE NORTH TOWARDS THE CITY AND WE SURROUND TRAP THE SCEONESE ARMY ALLOWING NO WAY FOR RETREAT (STOP)
***
His Majesty the King sits and drinks his tea, it is Routcherian in origin. In light of his new debt to Routcher, he spits the tea out in disgust.

Laxenburg Palace
Laxenburg, southeast Volausia

The Volausian Emperor Frederick V's middle son, the Archduke Lothair III, stormed through the halls of the palace with a determined face, as his servants rushed to follow behind him.

"Your Highness, you please! It's too dangerous, I must ask that you exercise caution!"
The Archduke looked at him, causing the servant to bow down quietly and scurry behind the other servants.
"I intend to visit the people in the southeast of our Kingdom," the Archduke continued, as he marched towards the mahogany doors of the war room, "for it is my duty to view firsthand the situation there and assure my people, our people, that Volausia will forever remain as the true uniters of the Germanic race."

The general of the Volausian Imperial and Royal Army stood to attention as the Archduke burst into the war room. "We've mapped out a route for the scheduled parade, your Highness," the general began,

"It will allow you to drive by the most populated areas of the city. I'm afraid we can't guarantee our usual degree of security with the recently observed militarization in our border with Heffburg, your Highness, but I assure you, I have my most trusted Oberstleutnant and his battalion accompanying you, and they will protect you to the best of their abilities."

"It's good enough," the Archduke replied, "not ideal, but it will have to do."
"Your Highness, as my duty as a soldier, I must warn you..." the general was quickly silenced at the wave of the Archduke's hand.
"General von Peuifen, prepare your men."

The Emporer's Forward Command Post
-5 Miles West of Yurkisandt-
June 15th, 1914

The Emporer is sitting, visibly bored, on his favorite travel chair inside the command tent; "Have they issued a formal response yet, Podgeworth?" The grizzled and obviously extremely grouchy Praetor responds in almost a contiguous sigh, "No sir, not even a damned word from the Queendom; although, there are reports of minor partisan resistance by the local Anatolians according to my men."

As the two old men groan and beckon about how tiresome and boring this southern venture has become, the commander of the 2 Army Group (the "Phantom Army") arrives in an angered rush.

"With all due respect sir, I am damn tired of just sitting here rounding up a bunch of brown skins with no true purpose to our intervention." He takes a deep, controlled breath before continuing. "My Liege, without your knowing I called upon my Phantom Army and have begun to equip and prepare them for an invasion of these damn Turks. I just cannot wait here for things to never happen..."

Once the young and brash general has finished his rant the Emporer slowly begins to wear a sly grin. "Yes! God be praised we have action!" The seemingly archaic man manages to roar from his breast. "Podgeworth, rally my Imperial Grenadiers back to the camp. We shall formulate and announce our plan on the morn!" The Praetor gleefully jumps to his mission as the Emporer bends over a fresh map of the Anatolian Peninsula.

The Queen’s Private Residence, Istanbul.

“My Queen, surely you do not plan on staying quiet any longer.” stammered her chief advisor as he hurried to catch up to her, “the threats upon us...”, but he is cut off by a laugh from the Queen, “Have you not realised the true meaning of all these ‘precautions’ that I have ordered to be made recently?”, by now any traces of her laughing had disappeared, being replaced with an expression of great seriousness, “We have known all this time that peace would not last for long among us, despite any efforts I have made. It is a shame, indeed, but alas, I assure you we are fully prepared for the outbreak of war.”

A few minutes of silence passed. Finally she added, “Be sure to station a brigade of our soldiers in Palestine, as well as any of our provinces that Heidenstaf may target.” She suddenly became aware of the look of uncertainty upon her advisor, “Your majesty, he began, if anything were to happen as a result of our actions...”, the Queen waved her hand for silence, “The time will come, and when it does we will be prepared.”

Malta
The HMS King Desmond and its escorts began its patrol of Malta, stopping many merchants ships for inspection, causing many ships to be a bit late to their destinations. The Admiral received reports of the military on the island picking up activity, but cared not of it. His orders were to patrol the waters around Malta and attempt to stop hostile African ships.

Corsica
Imperial Garrison Commander Ryan Hoppe, the man in charge of the Corsican Defense Force, received the following message from Imperial High Command:

"We are stepping up our efforts in the Med. Sea. A Task Group of 15 vessels from the Imperial Navy is en route to reinforce your own Defense Force vessels. Pick up patrols around your island, and stop to inspect all foreign ships you encounter."

The leader of the Naval Task Group, Rear Admiral John Killroy, was instructed separately to patrol both Corsica and Sardinia, even though Sardinia belonged to Fortzendorf.

Algiers
A border patrol force fired upon citizens of Mpho in a mix-up, killing 5 men, 3 women, and a child.

Saint Mary
The Emperor smiled practically ear to ear once he realized that not only did he have a powerful ally in Europe, and not only did the Ivaland let him have his way without a fight, but now he would soon have the King of Glemica in his debt. The war in the Middle East was about to heat up, and he may even have an ally there as well. Things looked good. The only thing he needed was to send more troops to the Alps, in case the land of Fortzendorf took offense to the increased naval presence. Some more reinforcements were being sent to the Spanish and Catalonia borders, as a precaution.
Long Live Emperor Tywin II!

"My Liege! My Liege!" A young boy, no more than 15 years of age, came huffing towards the Emporers advance column; "Sir, our scouts have spotted 4 separate columns of Turkish line infantry headed towards this location approximately 90 miles to the West! They are going to fight us, sire!"

Once the boy had settled down the Emporer glanced up at his Praetor and knew that they shared a mind, "Well then boy, as your reward for this dreaded task you shall be gifted the rank of Corporal in my personal detail. Ther is no place safer than with us men of steel on the field of battle; Kennsig! Bring this boy a pistol and blade!" After he sent the exhausted boy off he turned to Podgeworth, "Tell the advance guard of our Phantom Army to find the largest plateau in the locality and set up a fire-base and resupply point, tell the infantry commanders to advance towards this town here, Ardahan."

"At this time a mass of 100,000 young men with over 500 Artillery pieces in stow is unknowingly marching on to forge a chapter in the history books of man, but only God knows what history they shall make."~Me

The Battle Of Khan Yunis, Palestine

General Kites grinned as he read the telegram from Saint Mary.

"General, your orders are to Organize the 1st Sinai Infantry Division and seize the city of Khan Yunis from the the Palestinian Government. Intelligence reports indicate that the Queendom will be sending troops into Palestine, and most likely Jerusalem. Rush for Khan Yunis in the Gaza Region and establish your foothold there. The Navy will be dispatched to assist."

"Finally," the General thought to himself, "I can show that governor who the real boss is." He ordered his troops to move out. By nightfall, the 1st Sinai Infantry Division of roughly 10,000 men set out from Sinai to the Palestinian border. The attack was a surprise and the under-equipped Palestinian soldiers provided little resistance until the Division had reached the city of Khan Yunis. Once the Palestinian forces retreated to the city, they fortified their position and began making a serious effort to repel the Routcherians. In the end, the city was taken with the Palestinian Army abandoning the city 3 days later with the arrival of a Naval Task Group and around 1,000 Routcherian Imperial Marines providing artillery and infantry support, respectively. The Sinai Infantry Division lost 500 men in the 3 days of fighting, and were able to fortify the city of Khan Yunis and make it into the Headquarters for the Joint operation of Army and Naval forces in Palestine. For now, the orders were to hold the city, with the Navy patrolling the waters and the Army patrolling nearby villages and settlements. Eventually, they will try to take the entire Gaza Region, at least according to rumor.
