Pikasistan wrote:I am officially contesting CASM's last post on the orbit above "Beacon". To me, it looks like an attempt to change the outcome of a lost battle with a single shot. Let us run the facts here. First off, the MAC-X fires its payload at 0.5c, which makes it incredibly hard to target, of course there is mass expansion due to heat, but at the speed it is going and the distance between the ships, the 149896.229km/s speed of the round makes the trip really short (an incredibly small fraction of a second, didn't bother to make maths as the distances between the ships are approximate, but still being less than thousands of kilometers), making the shot improbable by itself as mentioned by CASM. However where it gets even less legitimate is on his previous post (http://prntscr.com/jsd3yo). In it he explicitly says he's targeting the carriers and corvettes with his guns. This means, according to the disposition of the battlefield above Beacon, that he got clear shots on the carriers, being situated directly above me. Finally, according to his post (http://prntscr.com/jsd67h) he only lost a few PD drones (according to him, there where a hundred total, so that means only 33-34 drones) lost which is ridiculous considering there are many other things that were shot at him.
I am not disagreeing with the outcome of the detonation of the round, this is scientific facts and , I am disagreeing with the fact he managed by "pure luck" to hit the most devastating round shot at him in a scenario where the loss of all his expedition. At this point it's scorched earth tactic, hoping the rads being unleashed will kill Izumi, Thrashia and I in a convenient shot.

I'l grant up front that I'm not directly involved in this thread, but I am watching and would like to address at least part of your objection.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you are objecting that there isn't enough time to target and fire upon the incoming .5c projectile? If this is indeed the case, then I'm afraid that even the small fraction of a second is enough time for the CASM systems to register, track, and target the round. The CASM are a coalition of trans-sapient uploaded minds operating on very powerful processing hardware. This hardware accelerates their thoughts to the point where that fraction of a second could subjectively be minutes or hours.
Now that doesn't address the time it would take to bring a weapon to bear and actually fire, something which cannot be accomplished merely by accelerated thoughts alone, so on this point I'd tend to agree with you.
As to the rest of your objection, I haven't had a chance to read all the relevant posts, so best to ask for a ruling from Thrashia on this one...
