The Hidden, Pure Light [FT RP | OOC Thread]

Postby Thrashia » Fri Jan 19, 2018 11:32 am

This is the designated RP thread for the IC thread. Please address any and all OOC comments and questions here. This is also the application thread.

Basic Story:

A mysterious energy source has been discovered that is seemingly limitless, breaks the boundaries and laws of known physics, and is unclaimed by any stellar empire or entity within the Beta Quadrant or greater galaxy. It has remained hidden, until now. It's very existence is seemingly impossible. There are mysteries within mysteries. How shall they all be untangled? Softly, or by a sword? The Gordian Knot is tied.

Groups/Factions:

There are basically two groups to this: outright invaders who wish to conquer the system and claim the power source, or those who wish to simply study it and perhaps preserve the lives of those sentient beings living on the planet.

Basic RP Rules: No GMing, no idiotic large fleets, no flaming, and try to make things a bit more character driven if possible.

Nation Name: Co-Prosperity Sphere of Auman
Faction: Observer
Short Background: Clean and limitless energy is definitely a draw. To be able to ascertain the source of the energy and reverse engineer it would grant obvious advantages to not just the Sphere, but to any nation they choose to pass it along to. Further, study of the local culture and specifically the means by which they have been pacified is of significant interest to the Armed Forces.
ORBAT: One scientific cruiser, well armed for self defense against pirates... And one Battlespace Domination Task Force on speed dial, which includes 72 ships in total, with the Gorgon being the primary battleship. Probably won't need all of them if something kicks off and I'm hoping I don't need any of them.

Nation Name: The Federated Worlds of Olimpiada
Faction: Invader/Observer
Short Background:
1. Having four hundred and sixty billion people crammed into seven planets does not a happy nation make. Olimpiada is always on the hunt for habitable worlds to seize, and this is no exception. With the recent acquisition of the Vosporos wormhole enabling easier access to the Beta quadrant, the eyes of the nation have been cast to its empty wilderness as a place to tame, civilize, and most importantly, expand into.
2. Ever since their initial first impression of galactic society was made by slavers which captured their generation ships, Olimpiadans have been wildly xenophobic. They view the human population on Beacon as being made dirty by their cohabitation with so many xenos, and thus have an obligation to save them from themselves.
ORBAT:
Led by Fleet Admiral Augustina Philopona

3 Basileus-class dreadnoughts
5 Perseus-class siege guns
20 Hwach'a-class arsenal ships
20 Constantinople-class escort ships

1181st Infantry Division - Ten thousand soldiers, fifty transport gunships, fifty aerial superiority fighters
2095th Infantry Division - Ten thousand soldiers, fifty transport gunships, fifty aerial superiority fighters
1479th Infantry Division - Ten thousand soldiers, fifty transport gunships, fifty aerial superiority fighters
57th Heavy Infantry Division - Two thousand soldiers, twenty transport gunships, deployment by drop pod from orbit

NOTE: These infantry forces are meant to clear the way for a full scale planetary invasion, I do not intend them to be my full deployment for the course of this war.

Hyper-commodified cocaine capitalism. Urbanized solar systems. Omnixenophobia. War economy without end. Radical body augmentation for fun and profit.

I make exactly two exceptions from a fairly strict adherence to realism, and hate them both.

Nation Name: Divine Sovereignty of Houseidou
Faction: Invader
Short Background: Currently involved in multiple conflicts across the galaxy, the Divine Sovereignty is not only defending their own borders against assault from giant Von Neumann machines called the Basaka, but also expanding into the Beta Quadrant via a stable wormhole, and contributing forces in an auxiliary role in a GESO-wide effort. With resources stretched thin, the prize of unlimited energy is simply too tempting to pass on. With the Basaka currently pacified for the moment, DSHIGHCOM makes the risky decision to dispatch a force to secure this power source, and reluctantly selects Admiral Gorou Serizawa to head this expedition, giving him overall command along with his "daughter" Vice-Admiral Megumi Serizawa's 12th Fleet. Serizawa, the head of the Divine Sovereignty Celestial Navy's Naval Special Warfare Division, aka NavSpecWar or just NSW, is eager to get his talons on the energy source leaked to him by affiliates within the Olimpiadan forces heading to also secure the Beacon. Furthermore, DSHIGHCOM has extended a covert invitation to their counterparts in Pikasistan via back-channels. Hoping to quell tensions between the two powers, they shared the information on the Beacon, promising its power could be shared if they worked together on this classified assignment.

Nation Name:Eclisian Empire/Eclius
Faction:Observer
Beta Quadrant Resident: N
Short Background: Eclius is a mechanocratic nation that, side from seeking the application of energy, we wish to convert organic lives in the beta quadrant into cybernetic machines that operates around organic consciousness. (originally I was going to be an invader, but due to availability, I've decided to be an observer and play as a slightly more minor faction in the broader conflict
ORBAT:
x10 Department of Science and Technologies research vessels (converted from ECPO-350 guider class cruiser, they are however, completely unarmed)
x4 ECPO Tramper class cruiser (military escort, in case of emergency)
x10 resource vessels
x2 converted Irida class siege platform (used to host more expensive and heavy research equipments)
x10 ECPO-90C "chiron" fighters (used mainly for defense only purposes)
X1 ECPO-780 Legionnaire class ship (the iconic Eclisian battle cruiser is used merely as a command ship. On board are the lead scientists and political representatives from Tchninomy in case of need)

@Auman: I'd appreciate it if you could simply demarcate what ships could *immediately* be deployed. I don't imagine a science vessel would be allowed to operate independently without escorts...but that's just me.

@Olimpiada: I would be appreciative if you'd choose one or the other of those "fleets". I'm a bit hesitant on the sheer number as is, but reducing it down to a single fleet would make things less...just less.

@Houseidou: I'd like you to reduce everything down to one fleet and then go into more detail concerning just how big that fleet is. As the OP said, we want to avoid "lol-huge" fleets.

Short Background:After ascending to the dominant power of the inner Solar System, Peninsularian Naval Defense Forces have undertaken multiple ventures beyond the Kuiper belt, thanks to jump field technology. After detecting the system, Pollux Flight has been sent on a risky journey. The PNDF hopes to study the planetary system, and whether it could function as a colony for the growing population. However, they are also armed and ready to defend themselves, and willing to do so against any aggressor.

ORBAT:Pollux Flight: 12 Hornet-class Destroyers; 4 Nuisance-class Transport ships, transporting the 79th Light Company, the 134th Infantry Comapny and the 6th Company of 13th Demigryph Trooper Regiment.

Fixed it. After Sun and Steel, I figured more forces might be a good idea for these sorts of situations, what with the orbital fustercluck which transpired there, but I can give it a go with the usual 48.

Faction: Invader
Resident of the Beta Quandrant: Y
Short Background: A nascent but powerful empire in the Penton sector, the Greater Imperium of Pikasistan is in constant search of new worlds to claim and new ressources to fuel it's expansion. Currently stuck in a cold-war with the Divine Sovereignty of Houseidou over an unclaimed system bordering the two empires, Emperor Trasymacus saw the invitation to join their rival in the conquest of the beacon as a way to ease tensions between his imperium and the sovereignty. Despite this, distrust reign between the two partners and the Emperor decided to dispatch the Steel Wardens, elite warriors second only to his personal guard, to make sure they wouldn't be betrayed by Empress Izumi...
ORBAT:
Task Force Palatis - Vice-Admiral Pontius Skitaros
25k Steel Wardens (Elite infantry)

The Task Force is composed of: 1 Chatto-class Flagship, 4 Aurelia-class Heavy Carriers, 5 Gladius-class Heavy Siege Platforms, 20 Praetor-class Destroyers and 40 Astar-class Corvettes.

Also, 5 Steel Warden battle-barges (Troop transports with PD and heavy armour) and a Caryx-Class Colony ship (unarmed, will serve as command post on the planet's surface) will be part of the fleet, but aren't aimed to fight any space battles.

Apologies for the late addition, but there is a new and vitally relevant information request that has been added to the OP application form. I'd greatly appreciate it if everyone could check and alter their application accordingly. Much obliged.

Nation Name: The Marauding Weaponised Planet of Tethys 13
Faction: Observer
Beta Quadrant Resident: N
Short Background: Tethys 13 found itself in the area by sheer chance, as they got completely lost on the way to Andromeda. Appearing in the area, they found they could not teleport out and faced a malfunction in the quadrillions of laser cannons covering the planet and surrounding billions-strong fleet stemming from the unknown power source, so the nation's planet-obliterating arsenal - its primary line of defence - was deactivated to prevent a cataclysmic overload. Forced to rely on lesser weapons for a meagre planetary defence, it was decided to hide the planet and send out an expeditionary force to discover the cause and restore the planet to functionality.
ORBAT: 30 Tethysi townships (each equipped with 4 currently defunct Laser Cannons (which would normally each be able to destroy a small country), some hastily assembled minor defence weapons, advanced science facilities with scientists ranging from prodigy to mad, heavy armour but no shields, populations of several hundred)

I don't have "discord" and don't really know what it is, is that a problem?

After receiving numerous reports about a perfect, limitless power source, the Hexagon soon sends a small fleet to investigate the matter, contain the power source if possible, and keep it away from any nation or civilization that aims to take it for their own.

ORBAT:

(x1) Hexagon Capital Ship, Hexagon Catalyst Alpha
- 281,484 men on board

@Auman, Olimpiada, Eclius, The Peninsular: Applications confirmed. Please wait to post until I've posted one more time, to help establish things further.

@Arkeyana, Pikasistan: Applications pending.

@Tethys 13: If you follow the link provided you will have Discord. It's a free, online browser chat system that we all use to communicate -- and when I say "we" I mean most of the active FT community. It would definitely help if you were to join, but if you're stuck only with posting here in the OOC thread, then that's OK too. Just be aware that people will be getting back to you slower. Also, I'm slightly confused by your application background. Are you saying that you're arriving in what are, essentially, "arks" with your entire nation's population?

@Hexagon Industries: Would you be kind enough to go into a little more detail on your application? Just how big is your flagship if it has a crew of 45,100,000 men? The same for your other ships as well. Your factbook is not exactly illumating on the subject.

Something that I should note, and why I had included the extra information bracket of whether or not a nation was in Beta Quadrant, concerns the original open transmission that other nations will be intercepting. The message was not a broad-band signal -- but rather a tight-beamed sub-space transmission. The likelihood of anyone *outside* of the Beta Quadrant actually intercepting it is rather slim. The likelihood of anyone successfully supplying a major military effort outside of their own home quadrant in the face of local powers is rather slim. Etc, etc, et al.

Just things to keep in mind. I'm OK with those players that have thus far been accepted, because I believe them to either be capable of rp'ing this well enough -- or I know their personal history of being amenable toward fair rp.

My nation is the Marauding Weaponised Planet of Tethys 13, it is literally a planet surrounded by a fleet so large it looks like a ring that flies freely through space blowing stuff up. The fleet pretty much never leaves orbit, so I came up with a reason why some ships might. And I'll check out Discord soon, just got a brand new cold so my head hurts too much for RPing right now.

Yeah, sorry, I haven't got time to make their factbooks. I'll just post each ship's dimensions and role here. I would make adjustments if needed.

- - The Hexagon Citadel
- Class: Mobile Superstructure
- Main Role: Main Military Outpost of the Hexagon branch present in the current universe. Houses a Hexagon Commander, the Hexagon High Command, and a population of agents, usually ranging from 40M ~ 50M. It is lightly armed, and likely shielded. It relies on other allied ships for protection. Most of it's population consists of basic androids, maintaining the ship as it glides through space.
- RP Role: Accompanies the Fourth Tangent on their quest to finding the power source. Provides additional supplies, weapons, and agents to ground forces, or even additional ships if needed, nothing else.
- Consequence if destroyed:
Communication to Hexagon Central High Command is destroyed.
Supply line and reinforcements are severely affected.
Commander defeated.
- Size: 48,000,012mi (Length), 20,400,000mi (Circumference)
- Average Cruising Speed: 0.012pc/h
- Planned Location: Four parsecs away from the planet.
- Appearance: Much like the Mass Effect Citadel.
PASSIVE - Will not participate in main conflict, however, it may be attacked and destroyed to cripple the main force.

- - The Hexagon Deathbringer/Hexagon Primary Capital Ship
- Class: Weaponised Superstructure
- Main Role: The Deathbringer is the Hexagon's largest superweapon, and the main craft primarily used for colonization attempts on other universes, where deploying a Citadel is too dangerous. Universes overrun by conflict, or containing extremely hostile natives are some examples. A giant cannon can be located at the very bottom of the main Spire, able to slice through planetary bodies and hostile battlecruisers with ease. It is, however, hard to aim, and takes extremely long to fire.
- RP Role: Protects the Citadel, and acts like antennas to amplify the signal of the connection between the Citadel and the Hexagon Central High Command.
- Consequence if destroyed:
The Citadel becomes almost defenseless.
Connection to Central High Command is weakened with every Deathbringer brought down.
- Size: [Only applies to the Main Spire] 12,047,411mi (Height), 758,000mi (Circumference)
- Average Cruising Speed: 0.0058pc/h
- Planned Location: Orbiting the Citadel.
- Appearance: A long, thin main spire, being orbited by six, shorter black spires.
PASSIVE - Will not participate in main conflict, however, it may be attacked and destroyed to cripple the main force.

- - Hexagon Catalyst Alpha
- Class: Heavy Stellar Dreadnaught/Hexagon Secondary Capital Ship
- Main Role: Leads the attack in most minor Tangents, it is heavily shielded, and moderately armed. Most Catalyst Alphas are assigned to protect major Hexagon planet outposts in hostile areas.
- RP Role: Leads the search on finding the power source. Most supplies from the Citadel is transported in these crafts.
- Consequence if destroyed:
Supply Line from the Citadel is affected.
- Size: 10,474mi (Length), 3,044mi (Width), 3,508mi (Height)
- A.C.S.: 0.048pc/h
- Planned Location: Near the planet.
-Appearance: Same as the UNSC Punic-class Supercarrier.
ACTIVE - May participate in open combat.

- - Hexagon Catalyst
- Class: Light Stellar Dreadnought
- Main Role: The main, and one of the few Hexagon stellar ships designed for combat, the Catalyst is a large, stellar ship, it's main weapon capable of tearing through large planetary shields in just a few blasts. It is also connected to the nearest Hexagon outpost, allowing for strong, constant connection between the fleet and the HCHC (Central High Command).
- RP Role: Carries most of the dropships, used by agents to deploy into terrestrial surfaces.
- Consequence if destroyed:
Terrestrial deployment is cut down.
- Size: 8,747mi (L), 2,848mi (W), 2,929mi (H)
- A.C.S.: 0.052pc/h
- Planned location: Near the planet.
- Appearance: Same as the UNSC Phoenix-class assault ship.
ACTIVE - May participate in open combat.

- - Hexagon Vortex
- Class: Vertical Take-off and Landing Dropship/Heavy Support Craft
- Main Role: A dropship, mainly used by the Hexagon. It is also sufficiently equipped to provide air support to land forces.
- RP Role: Deploys agents on the planet. Gives assistance if possible.
- Consequence if Destroyed:
Nothing, really. We might lose a couple few men.
- Size: 50m (L)
- A.C.S.: 0.049pc/h
- Planned location: Accompanying the attack.
- Appearance: Sleek, white aircraft with two engines at it's side, and two more behind it. It has a large cannon underneath, and missile pods at it's side. Additional weapons may be installed.
ACTIVE - May participate in open combat.

I'm not even going to bother criticizing the rest, let's just go for the big boy in the lead right now. 48 000 000 miles long. That's about 250 light seconds long. Just consider that for a minute. A radio signal at one end takes four minutes to get to the other. No material that exists or will ever exist is even the slightest bit capable of supporting that sheer bulk, including modern materials like carbon nanotubes and graphene, or really esoteric stuff like neutronium or strangelets. The square-cube law makes the mass even more appalling, to the point where I'm not even going to attempt to calculate it except to say that it's disgusting. You're flying a boat which is literally larger than many stars. Which means that either the thing implodes under its own gravity well or it uses technology so advanced that it makes one wonder why you would even bother fighting a war in the first place.

The only warship of yours on that list that even approaches reason in the slightest is the Catalyst, which is still four times larger than the biggest ship I've ever seen anyone look at and consider reasonable, and even then, their deployment is a rarity, not the sort of thing that you'd hurl seven of into a fray. Why conquer planets when you're flying sixteen crafts that dwarf them? Doesn't your nation have something better to do like permanently altering the speed of light, or a real challenge like figuring out why kids love the delicious taste of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
Hyper-commodified cocaine capitalism. Urbanized solar systems. Omnixenophobia. War economy without end. Radical body augmentation for fun and profit.
