I'm thinking of starting an RP based on Nation Stats; probably a war focused on conflict between Autocratic and Oppressive Regimes against Democratic and more Socialist ones.
The war would basically revolve around the three core statistics; that being Political Freedom, Civil Rights and Economy. Military technology would be based on Industry: Arms Manufacturing whilst quantity would be based on whether there is compulsory military service or not and population. This allows more veteran nations to have bigger influence on the war than smaller ones. I believe this is only fair, as statistically, they're more probable to have fought more wars in the past anyway; and have more than likely grown their military greater than newly independent ones. I've seen nations with a population of 6 million or so deploy 1 million units to invade a relatively small island on the IR forum; and this is simply riddiculous.
However, there are other ways to fight a war than just conventional warfare. Just as America may have been stronger militarily, but Vietnam successfully prevailed the conflict anyway. Low Civil Rights and/or high Political Freedom will result to nations being succeptible to public outcry. Corruption statistics could lead to easier assassination attempts, and so on.
The RP would basically be one big D&D game, with NS stats being virtual character sheets. Algorithms for the above are a WIP; any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. If this post gets enough positive responses, I'll make a Sign-up thread.
Also, this will more than likely include strictly MT-PMT tech only. Magic could be allowed I suppose, as long it isn't absurd. Besides, what use is a Fireball against an APACHE HELICOPTERRR
