[OPEN]New Regime Threatens Nationalization of Foreign Assets
Posted: Thu Nov 30, 2017 3:11 pm
Upon taking power from the former Republic of Diyaristan, a coalition dominated by the Diyaristani Communist Party has threatened to nationalize all foreign assets in the country. The reason the coalition existed in the first place, despite sharp ideological differences, was because of a revolt against a Republic of Diyaristan increasingly dominated by the Islamist Hizbi Tawhidi (Monotheism Party) that suppressed certain civil liberties and increasingly alienated more socially liberal elements of the population.
Now that the common Islamist enemy has been decisively defeated, the people are filled with uncertainty, optimism... and a growing undercurrent of fear.
The DCP is in the process of consolidating power, having voted in a new flag by what some say are unethical means, and a power struggle is emerging inside the government. While the coalition has promised to restore elections, certain forces do not seem to be cooperating very well. Some suspect the DCP leadership for recent political assassinations, though there may be other players involved.
The Major Parties and Factions:
Diyaristani Communist Party (DCP): far-left Maoist organization led by Chairman Salam Istiyar.
Social Liberal Party (SLP): Left-leaning but much more moderate than DCP. Led by Alsa Lao.
Dura-Tek Industries (DTI): A shadowy private military corporation with shadowy leaders and a shadowy agenda.
Nationalist Party (NP): Right-wing, pro-market, a minor party in the DCP-dominated coalition. No dominant leader.
Various third parties. [OOC: which can be invented by the player]
News is coming in that several employees of the United Schooling Corporation, a company based in Allanea, have been attacked by armed assailants unknown. Meanwhile, messages from the Provisional Supreme Ijma (Congress) have been mixed, but some voices are speaking cryptically about "doing away with the reactionaries".
OOC Rules:
For once, let's try one of those rare diplomatic international incidents.
First rule: you may state you have assets or nationals in the country.
Second rule: CHANGED; military intervention is now a realistic option. You may foster new groups, or foment factions inside existing groups, aligned with your country's politics, though be aware that you have a better chance of winning if your faction has support from multiple countries. Brute military invasion without local or foreign allies is also possible, but also most likely to face heavy resistance from existing forces.
Third rule: you may also roleplay Diyaristani nationals, ordinary citizens, businesses, political parties, and so on involved with your nationals. We have ethnic minorities, but in general names invented should be Turkish/Central Asian or Arabic.
The GOAL is to determine the future shape of government in Diyaristan.
Incident is OPEN to all participants.
