Ukraine Crisis

"Operation Resurgence"

Image

Introduction
For years Ukraine has been devastated by continuous war in the east. Thousands of lives have been lost, leaving the people of Ukraine with no one to look to. Yet there was an opportunity that came upon them. Shortly after the Minsk Peace Agreement, a referendum was presented to Ukraine which allowed the nation to become a state in the U.N.E.

Ukraine joined the UNE after voting yes on the referendum with a narrow margin. Ever since Ukraine was incorporated into the UNE as a state, the nation has seen large amounts of violence in the area. Protests against both separatists and the UNE have risen and have sparked violence many times and a surge of corruption scandals in Ukraine have come up recently. Europa has tried to combat this by imposing tighter security into the Ukrainian government to find corrupt politicians. As of now, 5 politicians from Ukraine have been found guilty of colluding with Russia and separatists to make it harder for the UNE to keep peace within Ukraine. 2 years later and the situation is worse.

Protests that take place get more violent, Russia has greatly influenced Ukraine politicians within the state, and the Ukrainian military has been losing in fights against separatists in Ukraine. Now the UNE has placed Ukraine under martial law, overpowering any Ukraine officials and placing EFF soldiers to keep peace within the region. Now it is up to the U.N.E and her allies to decide the future of Ukraine.

RP Summary
This RP will be based on the real Ukraine crisis that is taking place. I know that depending on who you are it can be a very touchy subject but I would like to put it out as I’ve felt it has lost attention. This RP will be incorporated into later history factbooks for the UNE concerning Ukraine. The first part of the RP will be diplomatic only as ISA officials from the UNE and Vangaziland will have summits with Russian officials concerning their role in the Ukraine crisis. As the summits go on I will plan for them to go badly and result in a military campaign against Russian separatists in Ukraine. You will be able to RP as a soldier in the EFF(European Federal Forces), Vannish military, or as a soldier from your military sent in as military aid. Keep in mind this RP will be MT and any amount of soldiers you send in will be a small amount as the U.N.E. will mainly be in charge of the campaign. The military campaign's goal is to restore peace and to defeat separatists in Ukraine. This will be achieved by taking control of railways, airports, and closing any weaknesses in the Ukraine-Russia border that would allow for enemies to come in.

Rules
  • No OOC posts in the IC
  • The military conflict part of the RP will not start until the diplomatic section is over with and the OP gives the go
  • No starting war against other nations in this RP
  • No Godmodding/Meta-Gaming: This can be defined as playing your character without limitations or having your character know things they couldn't possibly know.
  • Keep combat within your posts realistic
  • Do not try and take the RP into your path, I don't want us working at a summit then out of nowhere someone declares war on Russia
  • If your nation likes to be cozy with things such as human right offenses, then don't be surprised if I don't accept you
  • If a rule comes up for combat procedure then you must follow it. We are fighting a war here but we're not trying to turn the populace away from us
  • No one-liners. Try to put some work in your posts
  • This RP is onesided so there will be no support for the separatists. I did this so this RP wouldn't drag on as a long war between others. I might do a second RP that follows the POV of separatist later on.
  • 400 ground force soldiers max, 2 air squadrons max, and 2 tank companies max, staff needed are not included in the 400 ground force troop limit so you can have as many as you need

Ukraine's Brutal War Rages On
After 4 years, eastern Ukraine is still engulfed in violence across the region

Donetsk, Donetsk oblast -

With the heavy fighting that we saw in the city of Donetsk, it has been made clear to many that Ukraine's continuous 5-year war is in the favor of the UNE. So far allied forces have pushed the separatist forces back to the eastern half of the Donetsk yet one important city is still in separatist control, Avdiivka. The city isn't new to conflict as last year it saw the heaviest fighting between Ukrainian and separatist forces throughout the whole war. A year later and the UNE and allied nations are ready to make a heavy push towards the city once more. Many are expecting fighting to occur in the city but nowhere near the scale it saw last year. Adiivka is an important location as it's close to the H20 highway, which the separatists used to get supplies to Donetsk. Although most forces have been pushed, there still seems to be a somewhat large force holding in the city.

Euro News traveled to Donetsk earlier this month and found a city struggling with renewed violence and power cuts. For the soldiers of the 72nd Mechanised Brigade who’ve been fighting in the city, the experience has been total hell.

“During the last three weeks of fighting, six people died right in front of my eyes,” said Hanna Schneider, a 24-year old female soldier in the EFF Army German Corps. “I knew three of these people really well.”

Schneider had just come in from the front with the rest of the soldiers, where she’d seen 1 of her friends killed a week before. “The situation is quieter now. Yesterday we had a btr rolling straight at us. It fired ten times and then disappeared. I honestly don’t know what to expect from these separatists, but I know that this is Ukraine's soil and we’re prepared to fight for it.”

Euro News witnessed six exhausted Ukrainian soldiers returning from the frontline, trudging down a path strewn with debris. They’d been fighting with Russian-backed separatists throughout the night, in freezing temperatures. This was the tail end of a brutal month of fighting that saw nearly 40 people killed on both sides of the frontline — some of the highest combat deaths in nearly 4 years in east Ukraine.

Many civilians have been hit extremely hard since violence had surged. The residents at one aid area we visited were desperate, living like refugees in their own city. The situation in Donetsk was such that some residents were volunteering to be evacuated after the government issued an order to do so.

“Once we were issued an evacuation order, we decided to leave immediately,” said Andriy Shevchenko who was just about to board a bus outside the aid area. He had two children, one of them cradled in his arms. “My eldest daughter is scared of the noise. She’s even scared of the rain and thunder now. I want my kids to be comfortable. I don’t want them to see all this.”

While Ukraine's eastern region is busy with conflict, it has also come up recently that someone else has been busy lately. Dozens of Russian tanks were seen near the Ukrainian border on Friday. They arrived in the southern Rostov region on cargo trains and were deployed near a Russian village just six miles from the hostile Ukraine border. Russia has several military bases in the Rostov region, where its military often holds drills. Last month, Russian officials said they would reinforce its western and southern flanks in response to the UNE's increased military presence in Ukraine and the Baltic states. As a result of these actions, the UNE has called upon Allied leaders to meet and discuss future procedures to contain Russia after the separatist threat has been dealt with.

Disastrous UNE-US Summit
A disastrous UNE-US summit leaves behind bitter relations between the two nations

Chancellor Linda Schulte and US president Donald Trump shake hands after summit

Brussels, Belgium

After a week of the worst barrage of insults yet from U.S. President Donald Trump, the United Nations of Europa is looking westward toward the White House less and less.
Making it worse, Trump spent Monday cozying up to UNE adversary Vladimir Putin in an extraordinary chummy summit with the Russian leader in Helsinki.
Never mind. In an age when Trump has made political optics all-important, on Tuesday the UNE struck back. Key UNE leaders announced future summits for possible alliances that didn’t include the US. A motive that has been described as “necessary for the future of the UNE.”
Trump's abrasiveness and "America First" insistence had been a given even before he became president. Europe's increasing resignation to letting go of the cherished link to the White House is much more recent.

After last week's brutal summit where Trump derided Europeans as freeloaders, UNE chief Donald Tusk spoke on Tuesday of "the increasing darkness of international politics."
"This Helsinki summit is above all another wake-up call for Europe," said Linda Schulte, the German chancellor of the United Nations of Europa.
She ended an interview about the summit with the statement "We Europeans must take our fate in our own hands. If we don’t then the nation will succumb to a state of disrepair that can’t be fixed."

-3 x MOWAG Eagle V 4x4(security element)

So I'm using the airborne cav.. All these vehicles & units are in accordance with my factbooks. The vehicle is searchable. It's the only one I know that can be airborne. Many can be broken down and put into an aircraft, some dropped on pallets.. But not dropped with crew inside and driven off. Also note we're cavalry. Their job is mainly to work with armor and scout. But they're infantry-minded shock troops so they're a general force. The vehicle is formidable as a light tank as well and is worth an internet search.

We also deployed support elements with part of our numbers, just enough to support our units though. Same with the fighters. I'm assuming the UAE is doing most of the logistics.. Things we could use could include artillery or mortar assets, especially if self propelled.. It could be less needed if we're all armor with direct fire weapons. We'll still want artillery for the high angle and off site support.. Although we do have aircraft.

OOC we know it'll only go so far, but ICly we'd want to have at least one nation with indirect fire (artillery/mortars) and infantry as well (maybe mechanized since we're working with armored forces: APCs/IFVs)

It's classified in the article and up to UNE to base the staging area OOC. But I wanted to get an introduction post up. That link leads to a general news thread. I'm sure an IC thread will be up soon.

Commander: LtCol. William Tremblay
Amount of soldiers: 360, in addition to 1 tank company, 1 medical company and 1 combat support company
Amount of tank companies: 1
Air force squadrons: None
Amount of military vehicles: See below

ORBAT:
3rd Mechanized Brigade Combat Group
14th Armored Battalion:
D Company (52 crewmen)
- 13 M60L3 "Destroyer" Main Battle Tank
8th Motorized Infantry Battalion:
Headquarters and Headquarters Company (84 command and support personnel)
- 6 M998 light utility trucks
- 4 M923 5-ton cargo trucks
- 4 Armored recovery vehicles
- 3 M1130 Commander's Vehicles
A, B, and C Coy. (360 infantrymen)
- 36 M1126 Armored Personnel Carriers, 324 personnel
- 3 M1130 Commander's Vehicles, 18 personnel
- 6 M1129 Armored Mortar Carriers, 18 personnel
Medical Coy. (90 medical personnel)
- 5 M997 Ambulances
- 5 M1133 Medical Evacuation Vehicles

Cosparian troops IC are largely concerned with providing medical aid to Ukrainian and other friendly forces as well as displaced civilians, and acting on the offense is currently a secondary priority; thus, only the medical company, HHC, and one infantry company (1/3 of listed assets; deployed as a security measure) will be present at first. However, if more troops need to be brought in, the Cosparian Armed Forces can deploy the rest of the battalion and the tank company to the area, to provide offensive capabilities if necessary.

(edited to reflect the idea that crewmen and non-combat personnel are not counted towards the soldier limit)

Nope your application is completely fine. The 400 soldiers max only counts to ground forces like rifleman. Vehicles crews and medics are not counted into that number.

After the message yesterday and today's post, I'll add to my ORBAT the following.

B Co, 125th Armored Regt, 18th Armored Division, II Corps (1 Tank Company)
12 x T-90S
2 x Recovery Vehicles-Tracked
1 x MOWAG IIIP Ambulance
1 x MOWAG Eagle 4 x 4 (Artillery Observation)

B Battery, 440th Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Armored Division (125 Soldiers)
12 x M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System
2 Recovery Vehicles-Tracked
1 x MOWAG IIIP Ambulance
1 x MOWAG Eagle 4 x 4 Commander

adding above. Note we'll also have support assets in the background, some will come out in the story.. Mostly stuff that'd be needed to keep such units afloat and others including medical that don't need detailing before this particular RP as they'd be theater assets not necessarily attached to this Task Force.

Also looking forward to writing with the Stryker guys!

Vangaziland wrote:Also looking forward to writing with the Stryker guys!

Likewise looking forward to writing with your airborne cavalry!

The Strykers I feel are going to be especially interesting for me for a couple of reasons, both IRL and IC: 1) IRL I've never RP'd on a scale larger than two people, and 2) ICly, the Strykers are a fairly recent addition to my army. The CAF is currently going through a "transitional" modernization phase, since the large inventory of M60A3's and M113A3's means it currently looks, as one Cosparian private puts it, "like a Cold War surplus dump"; hence the presence of essentially 57-year-old tanks with anti-aging makeup alongside the relatively new Stryker family.

I'm really interested to see how this will turn out, diplomatically and militarily.

There's a good rundown of Vannish Army vehicles in general. Plenty of other factbooks there if anyone wants to check it out. I'll be looking into all the factbooks of nations here. Eclius, your forces seem fine. I'll be interested in seeing the doctrine at play there. I also like your Comanche and 'F-23''s as we call them. So we have that in common. Same with the Comanche. Both of which are cancelled programs that could easily be produced today, just weren't invested in.

Part of me wants to make an FT Vangaziland.

Cosparia, if you're looking to add to your Strykers.. Look up the FSV variant. If you have the mortar carrier, you'll want at least 1 Fire Support Vehicle per company to post up with the infantry to call in rounds. There will be members from that team also following the PL or his RTO to give people away from vehicles more eyes on to call in mortars.

You can also get deep and add another team from battalion to act as COLT (basically a team with a wide leash to operate) or just another set of eyes and radios. They have the ability to direct artillery and mortars within like 45 seconds.. Point & click, laser grid...

With this deployment stock in the TV episode that's in production will become more relevant to our viewing audiences... Glad to have the Hayesalians in this.

To summarize my first post in the IC, I had my forces moving around behind friendly lines.. I see it as in UNE territory, if not free Ukraine. I kept it generic for Europa to choose our starting position. We may all even have different locations.

So Europa, let me know what area you have us staging in. My post also references a post I did in a news thread. viewtopic.php?p=32837627#p32837627

Thanks to everyone who signed up! I will be gathering maps very soon for us to use. We will fighting in eastern Ukraine in the region's of Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donestk. Forces will also be sent to Crimea. Summaries of vehicles and equipment that the separatists are using will be made very soon also.

So are we holding in Western Ukraine or allied territory aka a European state? We need a starting location. That's where my forces are and if we're moving into that whole region we may cross from different staging areas. So it's either we're in Western Ukraine or some nation in the UNE. Probably Western Ukraine because if I remember, it's pretty far east and deep into Europe.

So should I post a little bit about my troops mobilizing to fly into the Western Ukraine/Eastern UNE region from my nation? ICly I've plunked my country where Canada would be IRL, so I personally thought I might put some background into the mobilization of troops and how they got there, since unlike Vangaziland, I don't have a "prequel" post to justify my soldiers being there already.

If you would like to work that in that'd fine but you can just say your militaries presence is because of political deals with the UNE if it's easier for you.

Looks good, but as I mentioned, expect NH to be a relatively non-belligerent party.

I'll be basing my troops as follows

Alpha and Zulu Troops - forward operating base to be established at this location.

Bravo Troop - forward operating base to be established in the field 2.7km south of this post office.

Charlie Troop - forward operating base to be established in the field adjacent to the west of this facility.

Air Component - based at the southern end of the international airport.

Noting that there has been advanced notice of the need to supply the NH Military with equipment, a New Hayesalian Army Auxiliary Ship is already on it's way to provide the equipment necessary to quickly establish these bases. I still have to write more about how this system works, but essentially, the FOB is pre-packed into 20 foot containers and shipped to a friendly port. It is then transported into theatre. In this case, it would be loaded onto the Ukrainian railways system and then transported to the nearest hub. From there, the armoured vehicles would be deployed to use this bad boy to transport and deliver the TEUs to the FOB. It's a relatively quick process, and a full FOB for 100 men can be achieved with 20 or so containers. There would likely be additional containers to better achieve the mission objectives, but you get the idea.

Definitely a good starting point. I should refine my list as well. So to summarize, we jumped outside Poltava in the news thread prequel and drove to the city in the IC Ukraine thread post. Now we'll be holding there. Remember, we only jumped recently. The tank unit is also in transit, which I should post about.

So Europa thought about having character RP style be a big part of this, so I'll try to do plenty of third person instead of my typical articles... I'm writing from the colonel of the 10th. We'll see where I'm at with the tanks... I'll still jump around, but I'll try to write from several characters' views for this.

Should be fun.
