West Kerry, Brigantica: After an emergency session held by the General Council of the League of Free Nations, the United Federated Districts of Yarova has been officially kicked out of the League. The state, which was the most recent member to join the League, has experienced a rapid and hard turn away from international cooperation since its recent elections. This has culminated in the suspected unofficial deployment of Yarovan troops to and later full invasion of Aukalnia and Sartland. Prime Minister Lucius Silvanus, representing the Republic of Legantus, spoke after the decision on the steps of the General Council.
“The League, as with all international organizations, is based on the principle that the strength of many is greater than the strength of one. That cooperation, not conflict, leads to better outcomes for all. It is evident that Yarova has decided that it no longer values diplomacy or cooperation. If it wishes to put its trust in arms alone, it can face the consequences of that decision alone. The League of Free Nations officially revokes the membership of the United Federated Districts of Yarova. In addition, it officially withdraws from all trade agreements with that nation. It is the recommendation of the Economic and Social Division that all member states withdraw from any trade agreements with that state in anticipation of sanctions. The League officially condemns the Yarovan invasion of the United Republics of Aukalnia and Sartland, as it finds this attack to have begun with the illegal and undeclared deployment of troops into a sovereign state without insignia or a declaration of war. The League will not be party through tacit acknowledgement nor the treasure of our people to such a cowardly and deceitful act. The League will remain, as it always has, a beacon for those reaching for freedom and liberty. We have no use for tyrants cloaking themselves with these values while seeking only to increase their own power and stroke their own ego.”
The expulsion is the first in the history of the League, with the member states that left during the Small States Crisis having done so voluntarily. It is unknown as of now how this will affect League diplomacy moving forward, though many policy analysts expect shifts from Eastern Artemia to Avalonia or Kesh.
In addition to the expulsion of Yarova, the League has also announced economic sanctions on the member states of the AES for the invasion of Graznavia. These sanctions focus primarily on lumber, ore, refined metals, and electronics but does also include a number of smaller items. It is also reported that sanctions against Yarova were discussed, but as of writing have not been implemented.
