Nation name: The Empire of Shikihara
National goals: Fukoku kyōhei - rich nation, strong military
Nation's Leader: Empress Hatsune no Himeyuri, Amenoshita Shiroshimesu Ōkimi (Great Queen Ruling All Under Heaven)
National Government: De facto absolute monarchy, with a parliamentary democracy supposed to check the power of the Empress.
National history: around 900 B.C.E. the archipelago was invaded by the Yori people, who brought the first elements of Shikiharan culture to the peninsula. They worshiped foxes, tools, and talisman which they believed was endowed with magical powers. Because of their fixation on the fox spirits, the Yori were known to sharpen their teeth and dye their hair red or silver. Between 600 - 400 B.C.E. the islands were again invaded by the Shiroifuku people, who were known for their reverence of the sky, swords, dolls, and martial weapons. These people, marked by a white hair dominant trait, conquered the archipelago and established themselves as the aristocracy, by 100 C.E. the House of Shiroi was established, originally claiming descent from the storm goddess it would develop throughout the centuries into the House of Himeyuri.
During the 10th century, the Arashi branch of the imperial family would launch a campaign to conquer the continent and "unite all under heaven," for that, they justified their martial campaign on the basis that the storm goddess' wife, the sun goddess, had told the ancestor of the imperial clan that she would rule all underneath heaven, and the mythical founder of the Himeyuri's was said to have proclaimed "Let's spread the reign of white hair and blue eyes across the world." these campaigns eventually failed.
Between the 11th and 19th centuries, Shikihara was dominated by a military class of samurai, who came to power following the civil war between two empresses who claimed their right to succeed the throne. Most of these powerful clans, such as the Inufusa, were lead by relatives of the royal house. Buddhism, Confucianism, and other foreign religions were wiped out because they were perceived as patriarchal and foreign in contrast to the youthful and feminine native beliefs.
At the end of 1810, having destroyed the Shinonome shogunate, the Empress was restored to power, but was practically a figurehead for the first few years of her reign, due to the machinations of the oligarchy, who were indebted to foreign merchants. In 1855, war broke out where Empress Hatsune, forced into war due to a rebellion, defeated the merchants and established a newly independent Shikihara with herself as the absolute monarch. Emphasizing the Himeyuri's descent from the sun goddess and the three creator gods, Hatsune does not seem content with the role of a parliamentary monarch and pursues a kind of deification similar to the Pharaohs or Oriental kings.
Territory: The Stormy Archipelago
Language: Japanese
National Religion: Tamadō, an indigenous variant of Shinto.
National Culture/Identity: Japanese
National Passtime: Kyūdō, Kendo, Dolls
National holiday:
December 21st - Empress Day (Empress Hatsune's birthday)
March 14th - Fatherland Day (Mythical date of the founding of Shikihara)
Nation's Population: 40,000,000
Allies: none.
Enemies: none.
Political issues:
- political factionalism and rivalry between an Empress who believes her authority is absolute and God-given and a parliament which hopes to convince her to restrain her power.
- anarchist terrorism, recent attempt on the Empress' life.
- growing xenophobia and ultra-nationalism, with the belief that Shikihara needs to expand and drive the foreigners out of her sphere of interest.
Chance of revolt: no.
Greatest Victory: the 1855 Merchant-Shikiharan War, where Admiral Yamada managed to wipe out the ships of the merchants in a surprise attack.
Most Embarrassing Defeat: the Arashi continental campaign, when soldiers went on a joyful rampage and had to flee because they had wore out their supplies.

Greatest Strengths & Weaknesses: the doctrine of the royal army can be summarized in three words: speed, shock, and spirit. Because of it's position as an island nation, much of the state's funding goes into the navy. Furthermore the military staff is extremely reactionary and motivated by the belief that superior spirit can make up for material disadvantages on the battlefield. This leaves the regular soldier of Shikihara disadvantaged when it comes to modern arms, but also means they tend to be intensely trained. An average Shikiharan soldier often marches for hours on end in the heat or cold, they've learned from their anarchist enemies the usefulness of primitive explosives, and are trained in hand-to-hand combat. This combined with a national ideology that the monarch is an arahitogami (god incarnate) who is descended from the creator of the universe makes the typical soldier quite fanatical and enthusiastic. But it ensures that Shikiharan assaults that don't manage to breakthrough will result in a disproportionate number of casualties.

My nation's current political situation is based on the early Meiji era, before Japan had any colonies.
Also, I feel that the long nature of the application might be one reason that discourages people from joining. It's rather excessive.
