Members of The Popular Front (Jabhat Ash Sha'abiya)

Members of the relatively new JS/PF group, formed in mid-2012 to overthrow the Shurjahi government and replace it with a leftist one, have conducted their largest attack yet. They took over the country's largest Dam outside the capital Muawiyah, the attack started around 10 in the morning with several SUVs showing up to the dam and armed men killing security staff and they were unable to sound any alarms due to how quickly and unexpectedly the attack happened, and they took the dam workers hostage, by 11:30 one worker was able to contact help, then by noon the group posted a video online describing their demands and declaring who they are (transcript below). Though the government was aware by then, they were still planning how to respond to the attack, by 1300 electricity was cut off from the dam by the group as they forced dam workers to shut off the power. By 1400 Shurjahi forces set up positions to attempt to retake the dam however Popular Front fighters are deeply embedded in the dam and surrounding areas and are holding hundreds of hostages.

The group hung two large plain red flags and lowered the Shurjahi flag on the large flag pole near the dam and replaced it with theirs, they also blocked off the entrances with large trucks with bombs in the hull. As Shurjahi forces arrived they experienced short bursts of sniper fire and fire from a hill and an lmg, as the fire hit the ground around them and their vehicles they fired back from mounted guns and one fired RPG back at the position as the reflection of the sun could by seen from the snipers scope however the sniper survived and was able to return fire along with over gunmen firing from the dam itself, the Shurjahi RPG man took cover behind a vehicle other Shurjahi forces got out of the trucks and took cover behind rocks and fired back in busts of fire, all while an PF lmg gunner returned fire back in full auto and the rounds could be seen through the air appearing as red streaks and this back and fourth confrontation continued for several hours into the night with no causalities or injuries yet.

Shurjahi forces are still stuck in an engagement with them and fear they may take a nearby farming village of Tal Al Nahr.

The Foreign Ministry of Shurjah put out a statement regarding this saying the situation is under control and not a concern of the international community and all and any methods will be considered in this counter-terror operation.

Popular Front fighters in the captured village

As the stand off between Shurjahi and PF fighters continued in a stalemate with neither side making advances, Shurjah's government feared that the nearby village of Tal Al Nahr with a population of 920 was vulnerable to takeover by the insurgents with minor clashes occurring near the village at the begging of the assault. These fears have become a reality, with dozens of PF fighters seizing control of the village late last night and setting up several defensive positions and several of the village's inhabitants are being taken hostage some have even been forced to be held in the dam. 3 villagers were killed after they attempted to resist PF fighters, Shurjahi forces did move in however the PF insurgents are entrenched in the village and surrounding areas. Shurjahi forces after minor clashes shelled the village with mortars for about half an hour but stopped in fears of civilian casualties so far no PF fighters have been killed in the village.

While Tal Al Nahr had fallen to PF Shurjahi forces were sure not to allow this to happen to the other larger village of Bani Azzam with a population of 1030 and considered a suburb of the capital. Shurjahi military and police forces closed off roads leaving the village towards the dam and Tal Al Nahr with checkpoints, stone barriers and barbed wire with armed men positioned in the roadblock and technicals patrolling the area. While several soldiers manned positions behind mounds of dirt created by bulldozers to protect them from gunfire.

As a result of the leftist insurgency in Shurjah and their hostage taking in Tal Al Nahr caused anger and panic across Shurjah causing some to take action into their own hands, out of feeling the need for self-defense. The most prominent being Ansar Al Sharia Shurjah which recently announced that it would counter PF causing concern in the international community, formed in 2011 during the Arab spring however it was largely inactive with its leadership running a Mosque in Shurjah's capital with little interference from the government as they have broken no laws in Shurjah and caused no conflict unlike the other branches of Ansar Al Sharia. Ansar Al Sharia Shurjah released a video online, showing several men in military style clothing and balaclava masks and holding assault rifles mainly kalashnikovs, with a speaker in the center without a mask but his face blurred and he spoke while an Nasheed played in the background.

As Ansar Al Sharia declared its aggression towards the rebels a few days ago they have already done a few attacks against them including 2 drive-by shooting and a stabbing attack this was the largest so far in the group's history and was filmed.They discovered the brother of someone who funds PF, by bribing a police officer in the area to report PF activity to Ansar Al Sharia instead of his superiors and he noticed a transaction at a cafe. They got out and radioed the attack's organizer blocks away in an apartment, we're here the organizer replied well go hurry! and the attack said yes, by the will of Allah and they started moving. They walked to the front door of the house and knocked no one answered they knocked again then a third time, then they tried to kick down the door and heard moving inside and one said Make this easy and open the door!. there was no reply, so they moved to the back of the house. They broke a window and entered the house and a man threw a book at one the others tackled him and put a zip tie on his hands, and made him kneel the man said Why are doing this? I'm just a street sweeper. The assassin pointing his gun to the back his head said We know what you do the man asked What do I do? the assassin replied We know you gave a handgun to your brother at the cafe 2 days ago, we are hunting you dogs those 900 being held will cost you your life. The man started sweating it's just a handgun? he's my brother he said he feels his life is in danger, I don't support him but he's family. He's the one in PF he's the one with the gun he's the one who said he feels threatened kill him not me! The assassin said you're real scum, I thought he was 'family' tell us where he is or went. The man frantically said okay, okay he went to a safe house in Dier Al Bahr there's 4 other guys there they run supplies from Algeria to the group, I doubt they even like Popular Front he likes money too much that's why he does it please he's family he's my only brother please spare us turn him to the police or expel him from Shurjah, please! The fighting was relativity slow today with several mortar shellings throughout the day which PF has grown accustom to over the weeks of fighting. Shurjahi forces had them surrounded but with no way of easily wiping them out as they held the dam and citizens of the city hostage. African Foreign Fighters in The Shurjahi Royal Arab Army

The government launched multiple rockets at the village to try and drive them out however mostly hit empty buildings. The army engaged in minor exchanges of fire near the village in a more rural area killing 4 PF fighters while 2 Shurjahi soldiers were injured. The army deployed 4 technicals with zu-23s mounted on the back and fired multiple times at them over a great distance from behind mounds of dirt created by bulldozers, the technicals were covered with dirt to make them harder to spot and carried Shurjahi flags on them with government markings on the hood and doors some had stickers on the windshields with phrases like Allahu Akbar or La illa il Allah. As the technicals fired rockets were fired as well along with mortars. After an hour of shelling and rockets a helicopter went in and attacked positions in the end causing 7 causalities.

At some point during the day Al-Maseera Shurjah's main news company traveled to the front lines to interview fighters and they shared their perspective.

Aftermath of a car bombing at a Mosque

After carefully planning a new offensive to expand into the capital Popular Front fighters attacked the main hospital in Muawiyah. The attack began around 18:00 in a similar style to the dam takeover with insurgents driving to the location killing security and closing themselves off in the buildings. A police technical stationed outside the building for security was captured by Popular Front and fighters were instructed to kill anyone trying to escape and the occupiers ordered doctors to continue all medical treatments on current patients to make themselves look charismatic however they were also told to treat wounded fighters first. The hospital was staffed with 10 police prior to the conflict but after the eruption of violence that number increased to 35 along with 4 police technicals armed with Pecheneg lmgs the police assigned to the hospital were each armed with AKM assault rifles, M4 rifles, or FN FAL rifles. As Popular Front showed up they drove an Isuzu moving truck used for transporting supplies with fighters in the back and drove to the hospital's loading bay. The truck backed into the loading dock and the door opened and fighters began getting out and moving through the dock a worker tried to stop them however he was shot another tried to pull the fire alarm to hopefully cause people to evacuate and was also shot. Fighters closed off the dock and awaited another moving truck with more fighters to show up along with one cargo truck as the hospital was quite large and consisted of three buildings. After 2 hours of intense hallway to hallway fire fights, insurgents full controlled the hospital killing 15 police and holding the remaining 20 hostage threatening to kill them. A total of 100 insurgents took over the hospital while also repelling assaults from the army and police while.

As government security forces arrived they took positions in a parking garage adjacent to the hospital setting up DShK machine guns, SPG-9s and deployed snipers to other positions Shurjahi military and police technicals armed with ZU-23s also took positions on the parking garage. On the top floors of the hospital insurgents also made defensive positions with DShk HMGs of their own and snipers using modified Kalashnikovs. From the parking garage it was noticed fighters were assembling a DShk then Shurjah's military began shooting at them Popular Front began returning fire at the garage injuring 4 Shurjahi personnel thus they responded by firing an SPG-9 followed by a Carl Gustaf at Popular Front killing fighters in that room while also causing minor damage to the building and fire black smoke could be seen rising over the building from where the rounds hit.

Shurjahi Government forces attacking Popular Front Forces

As the Popular Front continued to hold the hospital government forces attempted to break enemy lines around it by storming the area. The government of Shurjah was rumored to harbor war criminals from places like North Korea, Kosovo/Bosnia and South Africa. The government tasked former Kosovo Liberation Army member Agim Krasniqi who fled Kosovo to avoid prosecution for partaking in a mass execution of POWs and some civilians and taking part in administering a concentration camp. When he reached Shurjah in 2000 he was interrogated and it was discovered he was wanted by INTERPOL and the EU he was given an offer to help the Shurjahi military and intelligence and some aspects of the police and get paid a large sum of money or to be turned over to The Hague so naturally he accepted the offer and was granted asylum and lived comfortably for years with this being his first instance of combat in years since the Kosovo war. He arrived to the area in a Shurjahi government technical he was wearing a red beret with Shurjah's triangular government seal and a desert digital camouflage uniform, he had a pistol holster with a Glock 18 and he was holding a standard issue AK-74 with the stock folded to make use in an urban setting easier. Though living in Shurjah for over a decade he still struggled with Arabic at times and spoke with an accent. The technical pulled in and parked behind a wall made of sand bags and he got out and ordered the men he was to command to come around, Peace be with all of you, they all returned his greetings of peace Many of you probably do not know me and that's fine, however I have a lot of experience with this sort of combat and I promise by Allah if you follow my orders we will liberate this hospital, right now all of you are like kittens but I will make you into lions by the end of today. He pulled open a backpack with a tablet and opened the map app and showed the location of the hospital and he began to instruct them, This is simple all we have to do literally walk in the door, on this side of the building there is the emergency room for building 2 which is in the middle while they focus their attention in building one and three with DShKs and RPDs this entrance has like 2 or 4 men at most from what I've been told. I don't know about the inside and neither does the government but I recommend using AK-74s like mine, Shotguns, SMGs and other close range weapons like PDWs. Let's go Takbir! after he said this he pointed his gun in the air and the rest shouted ALLAHU AKBAR! pointing their guns in the air.

Everyone loaded up into technicals and other government vehicles and drove to an area closer to the Medical Center and finally arrived to an area near the hospital. They got down and immediately got fired at by an LMG and returned fire.

Popular Front Fighters resisting Shurjahi counter offensive

As Shurjah's government began to counter attack PF had plenty of time to embed itself in the building and a few blocks around with captured technicals and police weapons. Popular Front had men stationed on the top floors tasked with attacking oncoming forces the man on the LMG saw trucks with guns on the pack and Shurjahi flags waving from them with men unloading and began firing rapidly until he had to reload with bullet brass littering the floor of the hospital room, as he reloaded shots were fired back from the Shurjahi technical he got to the ground and began to crawl on the floor into the hallway and got back up and called over his comrades to help him out.

In a maintenance building nearby Popular Front fighter emerged and began firing from the roof at the Shurjahi military.

Ansar Al Sharia Assassination

While Popular Front and The Shurjahi government clashed Ansar Al-Sharia launched their own operation against PF after they interrogated the brother of a Popular Front supporter they sent a small group of 3 men to the northern Shurjahi city of Dier Al Bahr the second largest city in Shurjah and is also a large port and industrial city with ship yards and docks. After hearing the brother of the PF supplier say they got guns from Algeria Ansar Al-Sharia was able to track down a drug dealer associated with the arms smuggling. They broke into his house and kidnapped him and interrogated him, after he reveled the man he bought drugs from to sell was a Druze man from Israel living in Shurjah running cafes, selling drugs, and other criminal activities including arming Popular Front after this they released the drug dealer and they found his supplier's house and saw his son outside texting as they drove up the shooter sitting in the back of the car rolled down the window and shouted HEY! as he looked up the Ansar Al-Sharia assassin began gunning him down then started shooting at a car parked on their drive way and windows the gun he was using was loaded with a drum magazine holding much more than the average clip as the shooter shot he yelled WE ARE ANSAR AL SHARIA ALLAHU AKBAR! then they quickly drove off and uploaded a video of their attack.

The Socialist Republic of Korea voices it's support for socialism in Shurjah, but also states that it wishes for peace in the country.
We also state that the monarchy in Shurjah isn't our main concern however, but the real enemy are the Islamists that attempt to oppress the people.
Korea hereby offers to host negociations between the Popular Front and the government, hoping to archieve an settlement between the two, as only the Islamists will profit from this conflict.
