They were all just doing their jobs to be fair. Higgins probably had the most blood on his hands. Harold was guilty not by choice but by circumstance and he'll probably be allowed to live, albeit as an abdicated private citizen.

I don't want to get into a very technical discussion here, but let me just say that there are several hundred Soviet ships involved, and so it seems to me that trying to sneak a cargo ship of significant size past them would be at best a highly risky proposition.

In relation to the aid aircraft in question, supposing for the sake of plot that they are not spotted then this would not in a significant way alter Allanea's position towards your nation. However its' also true that, as long as a state of war exists between Allanea and the Soviets on one part, and the Shackleyans on another, that we cannot allow cargo aircraft or ships through the blockade, and so if the aircraft or ship is detected we would be forced to warn it away, or failing that, to shoot at it.

Risky, absolutely. Impossible? Not in the slightest. I am not ignorant of the technical details.

Firing on a ship or aircraft operating under the auspices of the Red Cross could be argued to constitute a war crime, and it's certainly a dick move, but leaving that aside, that seems like the basically standard response for NS.

It should be noted that, in the NS universe, there are no international treaties that Allanea is party to that would limit its rules of engagement in any way. Moreover, Allanean naval commanders have no meaningful way of knowing whether the ships and planes that might be headed to Shackley are carrying aid, or perhaps munitions. As such, Allanea has issued fairly clear warnings to ships and aircraft that would seek to traverse the area that is controlled by our warships, and I understand that the USSR maintains a similar policy. The Red Cross of Anglya has ICly received very clear warnings on this subject, and to try and operate aircraft without proper clearance in an area where they’ve been adequately warned they’d be fired upon would be at best irresponsible.

Now, it is still possible to find a solution to the issue diplomatically. On the other hand, maybe Anglya believes it will benefit from getting a plane or two shot down (perhaps by provoking the public in Anglya to support a war?).

(OOC speaking, if you want to RP that a small number of planes gets through the blockade unnoticed I am game).

Oh don't worry with IC military reforms from 2005 to 2017, the USSR has had pretty good results with mock airborne invasions, I'd give it about a week or two longer. Maybe less given I think the RP responds to IRL time and today is the 101st anniversary of the October Revolution so the USSR will have more of a morale boost and troops will want to get operations over quickly to return to the USSR for celebrations.
