Landevarnik wrote:Four men in suits approached the delegates from Japan and the Pacific States, and the United States of Unfreedom. A blue-eyed man with a grizzled face and a shock of blonde hair of them showed his credentials, a warrant card of the Landevarnik Polisvakt.

"Ladies, Gentlemen," he said with all due respect, "My name is Inspector Klaus Korvarsson, with the Landevarnik police, specifically the security detail of Government House. We have tolerated your inappropriate behavior for quite some time now -- however, we feel we now are well within our rights to ask that you leave the House. Under Landevarnik law, you have both committed crimes that would have caused you to be placed under arrest, were you not under the amnesty and protection of the diplomatic class. We have observed threatening behavior, and now outright assault. It is therefore our great displeasure that we must ask you to remove yourselves at once."

He gestured towards the door, speaking with an air of discretion underscored by a tone of voice that indicated he was not making a suggestion.

"Please, if you'll both step outside and make your separate ways back to the hotel. We do not wish further conflict tonight, and certainly not violence. Perhaps when your blood has cooled, you might return to the conference tomorrow." he said firmly.

Yurick bowed his head in accord with the Inspector. "My apologies for any inconvenience the Japanese or myself have caused tonight." he said looking at the man. "You as a military man yourself," Yurick began, noticing the man's scarred features and medal-laiden chest, "must know that war is not something we wish for, nor conflict." he said. "Those..people carry themselves as the victors of war, pompous and greedy. I am deeply interested in our world's history myself, and I must warn you that the last time the victors of a war carried themselves in the fashion the Japanese do it only ignited more conflict that cost millions of lives." he said making his way towards the large doors of the Government House. "You have been an isolated nation up until now, but opening yourself up to the likes of the Japanese only brings conflict to your people and your island." he said, aiming the warning at Inspector Korvarsson like a dagger. Yurick watched as Director Hoover made his way to Yurick's side, along with the rest of the Director's security detail. "Mr. Director, this is Inspector Klaus Korvarsson of the Landevarnik Polisvakt, we have been requested to return to the hotel until the morning." Yurick said to Hoover. Director Hoover glared at the Inspector for a moment before bowing his head in respect. "As you please, it is not our nation to decide the rules in." Hoover said to the man as he opened the door and walked out into the frigid Arctic air, leaving Yurick alone inside for a moment. "International diplomacy is a slippery slope, Mr. Korvarsson, and I suggest you tell this to your Prime Minister as well." Yurick said as he began to leave the building. "Good night, Inspector." Yurick said ducking out of the building.

As Yurick exited the building he saw the Japanese entourage walking off into the direction of the hotel and frowned. What must be done must be done, he thought to himself as he pulled a satellite phone out of his coat pocket and dialed a number. "Yes..go ahead with it." Yurick said to the man on the other side of the phone. "Yes..as we discussed it, all Japanese embassy personnel are hence forth persona non grata within the American Federal Socialist Republic." he said a scowl running across his face. "Thank you, and good night Lieutenant." he said as he closed the lid to the satellite phone before putting it back in his pocket. "How does it feel now to watch it burn?" he asked the cold air rhetorically.
The United States of Unfreedom is role-played as a democratic socialist United States.

He lowered his voice a little. "About your question, it seemed to me like the American security detail were threatening the Japanese with guns. I'm sure everyone was armed. It seems to me like this might be the climax of their already terrible international relations. Maybe a war is in the offing."

"I could have guessed that, but still, I don't think that it would be the best idea. Oh, and that was just a rhetorical question anyway." He took his plate of food and sat down next to Prime Minister Hemnevolt. "So Mr. Hemnevolt," he said, "I guess it's time for me to reveal why I am here. But first, an important question: have you heard of the Cold War?"

Hemnevolt heard the inevitable mutterings of the diplomats at the sudden drama. He addressed the room once again.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I must apologize for having to take such measures. Unfortunate, yes, but I'm afraid absolutely necessary. If two persons of their apparent political stature cannot control themselves in such a public meeting..." he paused, "Well, I shudder to think. In any case, I believe that this would be a good time to call our evening to a close. I hope this turn of events has not put a damper on things."

Hemnevolt made sure to have a brief conversation with each of the guests before they trod off into the wintry night, particularly the ones whom he had not had a proper chance to speak to during the chaotic night.

"We will resume these talks in the morning -- we will meet in the conference room, just upstairs, at 10 in the morning. I do hope you all have a pleasant evening, and sleep well."

Each of the diplomats was handed a small gift basket as they left, filled with a various sampling of Landevarnik products, to include food, drink, soap and other local trinkets.

The Emperor took a bite from his ham and potatoes, and chewed it with quick and solemn though. After swallowing one bite, he placed his plate down on the table and shook Celina's hand.

"Nice to meet you, Celina. I'm Emperor Augustus Willanius, Emperor of the Imperial Republic of Willania Imperium and Head Ambassador."

After the handshake, Celina placed her hand over her heart and bowed her head in a small, graceful move, a gesture of greeting usually reserved for greeting an Elder of her own people, but also adapted for foreign Heads of State. "The pleasure is mine, Emperor.", she replied to the greeting.
As she had risen up again, she took a nibble for herself, something with bacon, she thought as she continued the conversation: "Still, the diplomatic implications will be... interesting for Landevarnik. Sure, they acted in accordance with their own laws and with diplomatic conventions, but still... they threw out two foreign Heads of State - neither of which strikes me as a person, who takes such things lightly."
With a swift move, she popped the nibble into her mouth.

"It also came to my head," the Emperor stated, grabbing his dish and resuming his consumption, "that this may fuel to more than just your regular insult. What may happen are that these two states may try to influence the PM to follow their lead in politics. In other words, a cold war may start. I can see in their eyes the hunger of the world, whether for peaceful or militaristic ways. These are two forces, each with the power to destroy each other with the world with it. And their paths has just merged."

The Emperor just took a scoop out of an unusual meaty food, when he overheard...

The Emperor nearly choked on his food when hearing that dog meat had just entered his system. He dropped the dish on the table with a clutter and grabbed a nearby cup. Without stopping to think , he chugged its contents down into his system. The Emperor then relaxed and opened his mouth...

Only for it to start screaming fire. His mouth burned with flames as the tongue of the Emperor stuck out and was bright red. In pain and agony, the Emperor yelled and reached for a bottle. He grabbed a bottle of cider and pulled its cork, before chugging its contents down into his throat. A sigh escaped his mouth, as the Emperor leaned back on the table and took a few breaths. He looked at the bottle, and noticed the words "Non-alcoholic" on them. Thank God, he thought. If that had alcohol in it, I would have been smashed. He quickly stood straight up, and was about to enter the conversation, when...

The Emperor straightened up and walked over to the PM, who was conversing with some other delegates, no doubt some of the smaller ones. He tapped lightly on the PM, who noticed it and immediately turned to him.

"I would like to thank you for this fantastic chance to meet you, and I would like to state that you shouldn't let those two worry you. But, I do advise to keep an eye out for them. Those two could attempt to extend their influences on you, and make you a puppet. Just a word of warning between acquaintances."

The Emperor smiled and shook the PM's hand, and quickly walked in the opposite direction to the door, not without taking a small gift basket on the way. The Emperor walked to his limo, where his driver was reading a magazine article on the science of the Fountain of Youth.

"Driver. Take me to the Brigatten Hotel."
"Of course, sir."

The ride was uneventful, and the Emperor soon found himself in his room with the gift basket on his desk and waiting for the line to the President to pick up. It did within moments after the realization.

"Augustus?"
"Quite right, Bill."
"How did it go?"
"Well, I can assure you that this PM is a nice guy. A friendly one, he is open to us and wishes to know more."

"Well, there was a fight between two foreign heads of state. One was a socialist, while the other was a Shogun."
"Oh dear. What happened?"
"Well, they got into a heated fight over something and got themselves kicked for threatening each other with assault."
"Idiots. Make certain not to get on their bad sides. What happened after that?"
"Well, the part continued only for a little while. The drama was enough to have the PM end it, but I managed to meet some new leaders. We'll be meeting in the conference room at 10 AM tomorrow."
"Great. Try to make good with the PM and get us some trade deals. While you're at it, see to find the ideologues of the two foreign head of states and figure out what we should do with them."
"Granted. I'll call later."
"Alright. Bye."

The Emperor hung up, and went to the restroom. After changing, brushing, and washing, he went to his comfy luxurious bed and closed his eyes.

After the two squabbling leaders had been sent to their rooms, if one thought about it quite literally, Felicia assembled the other two Selkie around her, Ava and Celina. The girl from the Merchant Guild looked satisfied in a business-sense, which was always good, while Ava smiled.
From the corner of her eye, Felicia had seen, that she had given her dance partner a quick peck on the cheek in gratitude, so both of them hoped, that Owen was not offended or anything of that kind.
Be it, as it may be, after exchanging a few words, friendly platitudes, with the Prime Minister, including hopes for a calmer meeting tomorrow morning, the three Selkie made their way back to the hotel, enjoying the cold night air and carrying their gift baskets. One would be sorely mistaken to believe, that only because the Geansai was a rather skin-showing piece of garnment, that the Selkie wearing it were cold, quite on the contrary as they kept themselves warm with tales of their exploits during the night - and quite a lot of tales there were, shared with laughter and smiles, which made them all warmer inside.
Back at their hotel, they went into their rooms and nearly straight to bed: Felicia called Fortham because of the agreements she made with Dominic, Celina and Ava brushed their hair out, then went to bed.

Come next morning, the three Selkie were back at Government House around 9:30 o'clock in the morning, Felicia clad in an attire similar to the one of the previous night, Ava, warned by last night's escalations, wearing ceremonial horseman garb, Celina clad in a finer Geansai then the night before, this time in all-black with white stockings, Cailb's colours.
Ava's ceremonial garb rested on a gambesson, a padded jacket she wore as a foundation, above it the chestplate or half-cuirass as the Selkie preferred it. It protected the chest, a little bit sculpted, but definately with ornaments, engravings and inlays in silver on the polished steel. Her arms were protected by pauldrons, couters, vambraces and finally fingerless gloves, which had a small plate attached to the back of the hand for additional protection. On her hips, a pair of tassets were attached to the upper legs, poleyns and greaves protecting the legs in addition to heavy, brown horseman boots.
On the belt around her hip, she carried a sword, a helmet of the Cuircín or Comb-Style, as well as a quiver and a bow, currently unstrung. For ease of entrance, they had decided to leave the lance at the hotel, but Ava's hand rested on the hilt of her broad swords in a relaxed gesture. She was not supposed to participate in the actual talks, but to wait, where all guards were supposed to wait - at least, they all hoped, that bodyguards would be banned from the actual meeting taking place, otherwise, the room might get a bit cramped.
As it were, they waited for the other guests and the Prime Minister to arrive in the lobby of Government House, where they waited.

Elected Emperor Taziira Ormnavva walked out into the freezing northern nighttime air. "Snow," he said smiling, "When was the last time I saw snow?" He entered his linosine, which pulled out of where it was parked in front of the building, with an armoured car on each side. They drove through the streets, and outside of the windows, people walked through the snow. Most of them would stop and stare at the procession going by. These people are content, thought the Elected Emperor, looking out the window. They don't know anything outside of their daily routine on this little island. But of course, that would all change soon. They pulled up to the hotel, and Taziira got out, followed by his guards and driver. He walked into his hotel room and said to his entourage, "You all can get some rest. I assume that the Prime Minister will have his police force guarding the place". They went to their own rooms, and he closed the door, got changed, and lay down in bed. Everything is gonna change here, he thought, I pray that it's change for the better.

Dominic Kang
Government House, Tornstval, Landevarnik

It wasn't everyday that Dominic was at a loss for words. On this occasion, however, he was truly at a loss for words. Savoring the mango chips and the booze, he had to agree with Felicia: regardless of which nation got to host, diplomatic relations between the Confederation and the Free Lands would be decisively warm. He just hoped they didn't mind the weather; there was a monsoon affecting the Kingdom of New Luzon to the north, and given the geography of the Philippine Islands, that meant there was a good chance it would be raining for the better part of the week.

As the Shogun and the Director of the two rivaling nations were sent home, Dominic sighed. A pity that the feast had to be cut short because one or two leaders who ought to know better didn't. Ah, what the hell, he thought. As he returned to the hotel room with his bodyguards, who remained discreet enough the entire time to be almost beneath notice even as the Japan and the Pacific States and the United States of Unfreedom faced each other in a Mexican standoff, he couldn't help but wonder if there were better circumstances than that; not even the Cold War of decades past was that heated up.

The next day

The clock read 09:35 when Dominic returned to the Government House. He was still checking his tablet as he waited for an update over the DFA intranet; he was unsure if differences in time zones had anything to do with the delay. Dressed in a midnight blue two piece suit that concealed the additional bulk provided by the ballistic vest he was wearing underneath--he found it uncomfortable, but the previous night disabused him of the notion that he could go without it--he could see the Selkie waiting as well. In contrast to him were his bodyguards; far from the sleek black suits of the previous night, their suits were somewhat bulkier due to the trauma plates fitted behind their ballistic vests. Just like the previous night, however, they carried their M1911A1 pistols in shoulder holsters concealed by their coats.

Dominic felt the need for a smoke while waiting.

Ava grinned to her white haired friend at the... relatively unusual greeting.
"Good morning, Mister Wells.", Celina remembered her manners and bowed her head with the hand over her heart. "If I may introduce? Felicia Sciotóg of the Tribe of Monaghan, Deputy Head of the Foreign Office of the Free Lands."
Felicia repeated Celina's gesture of greeting with a small amused twinkle in her eyes. "It's a pleasure, Mister Wells. Ava told me quite a lot of things about you... all of them positive. If I may ask, how's your son?" The question was, contrary to the question by the Americans the night before, as innocent as they came, it was honest interest and a bit of small talk as well. "Attending his studies while enjoying life, I take it?"
Meanwhile, Ava threw a quick glance around... quite a few people were a bit bulkier, for the lack of a better term, then the night before, and she had the feeling, that this had nothing to do with a sudden increase in weight overnight. Then again, she was attending in full horseman garb, so she wasn't one to talk.
She turned back to the conversation, smiling.

The Next Day

The Emperor's eyes slowly flutter open, as the view of the ceiling from his bed in the hotel suite enter in his mind. He climbs out of the bed and goes straight to the restroom, where he brushes his teeth and takes a short shower. He then walks out with a towel and picks out his suit and bowtie, before going to a changing room and entering it. He stays in there for a few minutes before walking out with his new clothing. He walks over to his night table and grabs his eTab to take notes with when needed. He then leaves via suite door and goes down to the lobby via elevator. He proceeds to walk to the restaurant near the lobby, and after a quick meal of eggs and ham, walks out to find his limo prepared and his driver attentive.

"Where to, sir?"
"The Government House. Now."
"Right away."

The driver presses on one of the pedals, and the caffeine in the fuel powers the automobile down the street. Eventually, it reaches its location, where some other diplomats have already arrived. The Emperor disembarked from his ride, told the driver to pick him up when he is called and proceeds to walk to the crowd.

Alfred Libres
Government House, Tornstval, Landevarnik

This wasn't the first time Alfred's charge itched for a smoke; he could see Dominic tap a relatively fresh pack of cigarettes. He wasn't a mind reader, but he suspected Mr. Kang couldn't wait for the talks to start. Just as well; if the clusterfuck of the previous night was any indication, he wouldn't be surprised if the PM of Landevarnik decided to restrict the conference room to diplomats...and the uncanny part was that Alfred understood what that implied.

If there was any consolation, he and his colleague had some time to mingle with their opposite numbers.

OP, for reference puropses, what is the timezone of your nation IC in UTC+/- terms?

Elected Emperor Taziira Ormnavva awake to the sound of an alarm clock. He turned it off, quickly got changed, and walked out into his limousine. His guards followed into their armoured cars, and the trio of vehicles drove off. A couple minutes later, they had arrived at the Government House. He walked into the crowd and stood, waiting.
The Elected Emperor is just a democratically elected official who is in office for life. No monarchy involved. I don't get what's hard to understand.
This nation does represent my political beliefs.

Frigid...but not by much, Hoover thought to himself as he and his security detail approached the doors of the Government House. Hoover grew up in, at the time, Washington D.C., and to say the weather wasn't much different than an average winter in the city would be a stretch. The rather thick coating of snow that littered the ground reminded him of his childhood days, pleasant and unpleasant. Upon entering the lobby of the Government House he noticed that not many of the delegates from last nights banquet were present yet. He had arrived slightly early, but noticed the lack of the Japanese delegation which lifted his spirits. "Maybe they ran back home to the Land of the Rising Sun with their tails between their legs." said one of the men with a laugh. "I highly doubt that, Lieutenant." said Yurick glaring at the man as they entered the room.

Director Hoover found himself standing beside the leader of a foreign nation, the Republic of Lepala. Hoover took delight in meeting with foreign dignitaries and as such extended his hand out. "I am Director J. Edgar Hoover of the American Federal Socialist Republic, and you are Emperor Taziira Ormanavva of the United Republic of Lepala if my memory is serving me well." he said with a smile.

The Director has made his way to the side of a foreign leader, Yurick noted to himself. He, however, still had some unfinished business. He approached what looked to be the delegation from the Free Lands and Atkemri, both of which he had not much in the way of information on. He heard the Atkemri delegate say something about his son's studies and decided what better way to enter the conversation than then. "Ah, yes, my son is six and already we have a tough time keeping the wonders of the internet out of his hands." Yurick said to both the Selkie's and Mister Wells.

Felicia smiled a small smile at Wells' response, as did Ava. The latter had told the former about the young man during the last party they all attended, and while Felicia didn't speak to Atkemri's President personally, Ava had and told her partner about it.
Just as Felicia wanted to reply, a familiar voice chimed in: "Ah, yes, my son is six and already we have a tough time keeping the wonders of the internet out of his hands.", Yurick noted from the side, drawing a raised eyebrow by Felicia as she studied the man from the top, to the shoelaces.
Of course, there had been a conversation between Ava and her about that man, too, and to say, that Felcia wasn't thrilled was an understatement.
"What happened to children going outside and enjoying their free time by playing?", Celina again saved their (quite shapely) bacons with a sigh and a smile, "To be quite honest, when I was six years, I couldn't wait for the school bell, because that meant usually Mion and Maorga would wait for me and Ava, so we walked home, did our homework as fast as we could and then went off to play - or, as we grew into that age, train. Horsearchery." She shrugged. "I was not bad. Anyway, I believe, that your son was a bit older... just becoming of age, if I heard correctly."
With a flick of her head, she motioned to Ava, getting the conversation back on track for a bit.

Government House
9:55 am

Prime Minister Hemnevolt greeted the delegates one by one as they entered the surprisingly large conference room. They were seated around a large oaken table, oblong in shape, in comfortable business chairs. The room was a pleasant temperature, with a hint of mistletoe fragrance in the air. Glasses of crisp spring water and cucumber sandwiches were laid out as light refreshment.

A keen observer would have noticed a marked increase in security from the night before; merely a precaution, of course, but four uniformed Polisvakt men stood outside the entrance to Government House, MP5's cradled in their arms. Additionally, too, the number of rough-looking men in suits with security earpieces had increased through the halls and around the conference room. The change was subtle, yet sent a message.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, please, find your seats at your own leisure. You'll see your nation's flag and a small placard where you are assigned to sit... I have brought along several of my trusted ministers from the Parliament, who might best be able to facilitate our discussions today."

A middle-aged man with a ruddy face, a round cut of brown hair and distinctively large ears stepped forward.

"My Minister of Finance," Hemnevolt said, "Mr. Knut Yardvakt."

A petit blonde woman, in her 30s, decidedly pretty, with striking blue eyes, stepped forward.

"My Minister of the Interior -- Ms. Yvonne Landrik."

An older man, with a rough white goatee and grey eyes, stepped forward.

"My Minister of Trade -- The Honorable Bjorn Sunsval."

A handsome, younger man with a slick of blonde hair and distinctive smile stepped forward.

"My Foreign Minister -- Mr. Martin Turst."

Hemevolt seemed satisfied.
"Well, shall we get started?" he asked, finding his way to the head of the table.

Government House, Tornstval, Landevarnik

"Of course, Prime Minister," Dominic replied sotto voce.

He had taken his seat at the conference table, taking a sip from the glass in front of him as he waited for the PM to finish his introductions. As the other members of the host government were introduced by the PM, Dominic snuck a glance at his tablet for updates from the DFA intranet vis-à-vis Visayan-Selkie relations.

Emperor Augustus walks over to his seat, reaching for his seat. The numerous guards caught the eye of the Emperor, who silently remarked, "Glad to see they are ready for another feud." Sitting on it, he reached out for his glass and politely sips, making a little sound. He looks at the other delegates that appeared now, then pulled out his eTele to check his messages.

Das Kaiserliche Außenministerium
(The Imperial Ministry for Foreign Affairs)

Prime Minister Hemnevolt,
We do sincerely apologize for the late message, but we welcome you to the international stage all the same. It is a glorious time for your nation to join the rest of the world in trade and international diplomacy. It is the wish of all in the Kaiserreich that you have every opportunity to enhance your nation's standing on the world stage and your efforts should meet with prosperity. To that end we wish to extend an offer to your nation.

The German Empire currently heads the Mitteleuropa Initiative, a common market that connects the economies of Germany and its European allies. It has brought about financial prosperity and increased commerce to all members since its initiation and so we wish to offer your nation a place in this organization. Though a single message alone cannot convey the full designs of this marvelous offer, we do hope you will keep it in mind and be open to discussion once our representative arrives in your fair nation.

His Excellency, Heinrich Büchliger, Imperial Chancellor of Germany is currently en route by plane to your nation and should arrive shortly. We do hope it is not too late to join the conference.

Yours Sincerely,
Karl Frederick von Hesse, German Minister for Foreign Affairs

Luftwaffe 3, Over the North Sea

Heinrich Büchliger, newly appointed Reichskanzler of the German Empire, was slightly nervous. A year ago a German diplomat would be insane to be nervous about a conference regarding a tiny island nation. The German Empire stretched from the Low Countries to the Ural Mountains and up to Norway, had colonies across the world, and was a superpower in every rite. With millions of men under arms in its armed forces, Germany was at little threat from Landevarnik. Büchliger's nervousness came from the fact that the German Empire was only six months out of a civil war that had almost toppled the monarchy with a fascist coup and this was the first time striking out in world diplomacy again. Kaiser Erwin I, also newly crowned in the wake of the death of his father Kaiser Wilhelm Augustus III, wanted to rebuild Germany's influence in the international community and what better way than opening their arms to a nation stepping out of isolationism.

Of course in reality the Mitteleuropa Initiative was just another way of spreading German influence and control. The other members were either German colonial dominions or the European satellites (Italy, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania). If Germany said jump the other members asked how high. But not this time, there was no planned shadow invasion under the guise of friendship. Kaiser Erwin wanted to expand the common market to independent nations and foster better relations on the world stage.

The plane would arrive in two hours.
Proud advocate that Europe stands stronger together than divided. The EU may be flawed in some areas but the idea of a united Europa can only bring good fortune to Europe and the world. For more than two thousand years, Europe was home to conflicts inspired by coveting one another's territory and resources, even making the continent the home to some of the world's most destructive and costly conflicts. But the idea was all wrong in their minds. Their idea was to bring this territory or that under their flag and spread influence on the continent. The idea they should all have been thinking was that the goal should be to bring the continent under one unified flag.

Elected Emperor Taziira Ormnavva sat down at his seat. "Well then, Mr. Hemnevolt. I hope that today will be a little more calm then yesterday." He quickly glared at the American and Japanese delegates. No one except the targets of of his distrust noticed. Then he smiled. "But of course, it's another day. Now, since your nation was has been so isolated from politics for a while, are you aware of the 'Cold War' between America and the Soviet Union?"
The Elected Emperor is just a democratically elected official who is in office for life. No monarchy involved. I don't get what's hard to understand.
This nation does represent my political beliefs.
