The Winds of Change Part 1 (OOC) (Stille Nacht Only)

Postby Christoslavia » Mon Jun 19, 2017 11:44 am

This is the OOC thread for the Christoslavian Civil War, tech is restricted to 70's and early 80's. If you believe your country would have had any part, from just a government statement to direct involvement, please tag and fill out the application. If you'd like to RP characters (even Christoslavians) on either side of the conflict this is welcome and will be more available for fleshing out in Part 2.

Please note that there will be no invasions and open military conflict in this episode. This serves as the diplomatic tension and buildup to the civil war. Direct military intervention will be allowed in parts 2 and 3.

Currently please keep intervention to either joint-intelligence or the stationing of troops in Christoslavia if approved by the government once it reaches that point.

There is no such thing as victory, only avoiding defeat
-Ajax Santosa

Background
For centuries the idea of survival of the fittest dictated Christoslavia. From humble beginnings as a safe haven for business, followed by rapid expansion, militarism, and industrialization; Christoslavia soon became a dominant power on Aurus. Fearsome Private Military Corporation's along with the state enforced a totalitarian, corporatist fasco-capitalist society through the majority of the 20th century.

The majority of civilians constituted the lower class who lived in a state of perpetual wage slavery to the companies they worked for and the state over all, with only the incredibly rich or those deemed fit for military service living at the least a semi-decent life in the upper echelons of society.

In 1957, Dwight Reynolds was unanimously chosen by the Board of Directors to be the next Chairman of the Board and ruler of Christoslavia, however in a coup the Board was dissolved and power consolidated in the hands of Reynolds who took the title, Director, although at no loss to the various corporate entities that ruled Christoslavia.

As such, any remaining civil rights were eliminated by the state. Christoslavia in it's history had terribly oppressed the ethnic Chen and Chuwan minorities including several genocides throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, mainly by forced labor and deliberate ethnic cleansing.

Now, the common man was subject to the same treatment, all Christoslavians suffered under this new regime, fostering a new sense of camraderie among the downtrodden lower classes, the problem was no longer racial, but economic. Crony capitalism squeezed the life out of the country, environments were destroyed, families torn apart, and the state of living for the average Christoslavian kept to the bare essentials.

Under the Director the governments power expanded significantly and the standing professional army, one of the few public entities in the state, expanded in quality and quantity, bolstered by the various militias and PMC's already used by the numerous corporations throughout the country. With communist and generally aggressive neighbors, Christoslavia combined its business approach, as a mix between globalism and nationalism, with its military approach, becoming more aggressive in it's attitudes towards Hartel, Chen, Madera, and Uralskoy chiefly.

Christoslavia had a dominating philosophy that preached an infallible connection between corporatism and the Gods, wealth and the freedom of capitalism being the key to happiness and unity with the Gods. This specific branch of Katharism, known as Veultaism, from the 18th century missionary and philosopher Adolf Veult, held enormous sway in Christoslavia and was interwoven with every corporate entity, solidifying their power and legitimizing their treatment of their employees and the country in general. Led by the Master Cardinal Glen Hover, the Church of Veultaism was there to assist The Director when beckoned.

This opening to the saga will take us to the beginning, 5:00 PM, January 16th, 1978, as all workers in the city of Forzera, the heart of Christoslavian industrial enterprise including coal, metal/minerals, and machinery, rose up collectively and took the city from their corporate overlords, leading to the Resistance Day Massacre.

We will end on August 19th, 1978, the day Ajax Santosa took over the Citadel, thus beginning 5 years of war. Everything that happens in between remains to be seen.

Accepted, although keep troop levels down to one division, which for this will be 20,000 to 40,000 troops. Also i didnt make it totally clear military action wont actually start until part 2. This part is more diplomacy and buildup

Name: Chen Empire
Side supported: Neither
Name of Character (If desired): Emperor Xiang Yu of Chen
Initial Government Reaction: None
Type of Support Lended: None

Existing territorial disputes as well as anger due to the genocide of native and ethnic Chennese means Chen is eager to exploit any instability in hope of waging a war of retribution to recover pride and lost territory. The Emperor also seeks to consolidate his rule with disturbances in the countryside due to communist guerrillas.

Chen is severely underdeveloped as the Emperor and the ruling elite resist modernisation and opening up as they fear that control will be lost over their population. Princes command various field armies who for the large part are neither mechanised nor motorised. There are armoured and mechanised formations but equipment used dates back to IRL WW2 and comparable to Chinese tactics in the Korean War.

On the other hand Chen can have over a million men march toward any front at one time and has plenty of manpower to replenish casualties, regardless of how high. Well, to an extent.

The Emperor is neither friendly with the government nor the rebels, which he sees as a major threat with the possibility of spreading subversive ideologies to Chen. However there are Princes on the border which may covertly assist the rebels with the purpose of destabilising Christoslavia.

Name: Kingdom of New Phallia
Side supported: Initially neutral but government-leaning
Name of Character (If desired): King Hagen III
Initial Government Reaction: None
Type of Support Lended: None

New Phallia is on reasonable terms with the Christoslavian corporatocracy and business goes well. However, the New Phallian royalty want to preserve their power and privileges which had been badly damaged since the Kingdom officially declared itself a constitutional monarchy in the 1930s, and so the Kingdom remains cautiously semi-open to world affairs, still attempting to stay modernised to survive. A major sticking point between Christoslavia and New Phallia is that they perceive the Katharist offshoot of Veultaism which is dominating the former as a major threat to the traditionally-grounded Catharist Church.

There are elements which however are in support of the strikes, but there is little they can do to help.

The Kingdom is not friendly with any of its neighbours.

I think I will focus on RPing as Chen- the mechanisms behind the dynasty and how it is behaving in its geopolitical environment. I had the idea that New Phallia sent a brigade to help defeat the rebels as a show of goodwill to the government, but that brigade is infiltrated by socialists and eventually defects. But as you said, diplomacy initially only right?
