The Ashgabat Conference

The closure of the Second World War and the defeat of the Soviet Union has left the world a shattered and scared place, and in nowhere more so than in Asia and Eastern Europe. The nations of Quintipoli, Yurizlansia, Terranihil, and Konratopia are finally free from the mencacing grip of the Soviet Union, but danger still lurks. The Soviet Union still exists due to the threat of nuclear war at the end of World War II, and the sleeping bear would like nothing better than to retake the countries it controlled at the beginning of the war. This has caused Konratopia to invite the other previously Soviet-controlled countries to Ashgabat at the Ruhyýet Palace to discuss a possible defensive alliance against the Soviets and any other threats. Even with the declination of the invitation by Yurizlansia and regional and world tensions high due to the outbreak of war in New Caledonia and Afghanistan, the conference will go on. Only time can tell how successful it will be with all the political and international strife surrounding it.

Rules:
1:Don't participate on this thread unless you are a member of the region Imperial Fatherland or you will be voided so hard.
2:If you are part of the Imperial Fatherland and wish to join the conference but are not Konratopia, Quintipoli, or Terranihill, you must ask for an invitation to join and must be accepted by Konratopia.
3:Each delegation will speak in the same order, with Konratopia going first, then either Quintipoli or Terranihill, and then the remaining nation. No skipping a delegation will be allowed.
4:If you post a one-liner you will immediately be escorted out of the conference room by Konratopian policemen.
5:Think over-the-top formality.

Opening Ceremony and Welcoming Speech from Vice President Kabilazk

The entire city of Ashgabat celebrated as the delegations from the other countries arrived today. Many were suprised to see delegates from Sweden as well as delegates from Quintipoli and Terranihil, as the news that Sweden would attend the conference was not widely broadcast and might cause issues with the other countries invited. Across the city, buildings were adorned with red, green, and silver silk all the way to the Ruhyýet Palace, which was flying the 4 national flags to signify the conference would be taking place there.

Once the delegations were settled in and the many international press reporters were in place, Vice President Kabilazk stood to deliver his welcoming speech:

"Esteemed delegates of the fine nations of Quintipoli, Terranihil, and Sweden, Konratopia is honored to have you here as guests in our beloved city of Ashgabat. In this dark time while we face such a threat as the Soviet Union, we need unity, and the best kind of unity is international unity. Together, we have the power to stand up to the Soviet Union if they dare to invade one of us, but alone, we have no chance of victory. That is why this conference is so important, and that is why I pray before anything else that this conference goes well. Thank you." The Vice President sat down to applause, but there was still no sight of President Disain anywhere. With the Konratopians finished with their opening remarks, it remains to be seen which nation will speak next.

[Quintipoli]

After a few seconds of akward silence, Foreign Minister Linius Kahaldrin, sitting in the middle of several other Quintipolese officials, including the President, stood up and loudly cleared his throat.

"Friends, Brothers, I, and my nation are delighted to be here. I would also like to welcome, our unexpected attendee, Thessaloniki. As we all know, the purpose of this conference is to form a military alliance in order to ensure our mutual security against the Soviet Union. In service of that goal, we would like to suggest that the nations at this conference employ a system where an attack on one of our nations by any outside power, not just the Soviet Union, compells other nations in our alliance to respond. In addition, I would like express our opposition to placing the command of our militaries in the hands of some sort of centralized command structure. I think we can all agree that that is what we need to defend ourselves. However, there is one major chink in our metaphorical armor. Yurizlansia! While I do not intend to make enemies of our neighbors, their reluctance to join our alliance raises real questions about its effectiveness. In order to deal with this, we should have especially good relations with Yurizlansia, and allow other nations to join our alliance over time."

Foreign Minister Kahaldrin sat down to the sound of polite applause of his colleagues.

[Terranihil]

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Adelard Schalnge, stood up to speak after Kahaldrin. "In behalf of Terranihil, I would like to thank Vice President Kabilazk and all of Konratopia for kindly welcoming its guests. I agree with Minister Kahaldrin on the issue of a unified army, as each nation's own defense comes first, and I agree on the necessity of Yurislanzia in this alliance, because of their global influence. I would also like to stress the importance of a trade deal between our nations. We cannot support a military without sufficient funds or without the necessary supplies, and creating economic prosperity will surely attract other nations to join us."

[Konratopia]

The entire conference room then looked to the corner that sat the Swedish delegation, the only delegation that hadn't spoken yet, who appeared to be arguing with each other and looking around fearfully. One of them finally called over a Konratopian official, who then walked back to Vice President Kabilazk.

"Um, yes. Ok, um, it seems that the Swedes need a few more minutes to decide on their opening statements, and they have asked that the conference continues without them. I would now like to invite Sen. Bermet Nogoyev, professor of Political Science at Kyrgyz National University, former Katta Serjant of the Konratopian Armed Forces, and Senator of North Kyrgyz to speak." The tall, Kyrgzian, warriorlike-built Senator of 25 years old then came up to speak. Although he was young, he had accomplished a lot during his time and had quickly risen through the ranks of the Facist Party. His low, booming voice echoed through the palace as he began.

"Esteemed delegates, I am humbled by the chance to speak here and by your unwavering dedication to this cause. I speak for all of Konratopia when I say that I agree with Terranihil wholeheartedly that our nations should engage in economic cooperation in order to make the defensive alliance more effective, although we also do not believe it would be necessary to have a centralized command structure. I also agree with Quintipoli in that our alliance is less effective since Yurizlansia has declined to join. However, I fear that their declination in attending this conference raises serious questions about their Socialist government and where their true allegiances lie. With rumors flying in of the beginnings of collectivization in Yurizlansia, a barbaric communist practice, I cannot help but wonder if Yurizlansia would stand with us if the Soviet Union invaded, or if they would happily join them in another attempt to let communism take over the free world. That is why I believe this alliance is so important, and why I believe every member nation should agree to declare war on any country that declares war or invades another member country. Thank you." Nogoyev sat down, and members of the Konratopian delegation started to mumble, some looking horrified while others sat with a slight smirk on their face. Clearly these remarks about Yurizlansia, a nation that Konratopia was on relatively good terms with after the recent tensions, were very controversial and would impact the conference greatly.

[Quintipoli]

After a few seconds, Foreign Minister Linius Kahaldrin and President Sarnik drew themselves away from the hushed conversation they were having earlier and the President began to speak.

"Well, there were certainly some dubious assertions and assumptions made by the previous speaker, though I must say I generally share his healthy suspicion of the new Socialist government of Yurizlansia. If they're anything like the Dem-Socs in Quintipoli, I would be quite worried for the future of their nation. However, we don't share in the Konratopian delegation's eagerness to take a hostile stance against said government without any substantial evidence that they are taking such a stance against us. Quintipoli is a major trade partner of Yurizlansia, and has a long history of cooperating with them, the most recent example of which is the construction of the Kerch Bridge. Before acting on Senator Nogoyev's recommendations, we must first reach out to the Yurizlansian leadership to determine if their is a possibility of cooperaton."

The Quintipolese delegation erupted into thunderous applause as the President took his seat. The statements Sarnik had just made were a reflection of the tight course he was having to steer due to the internal politics of his own nation, taking a harsh stand against the USSR in order to appease the conservative Fazen Kaspian, while at the same time not cozying up to the Western Powers to appease the more libertarian wing of his own party.

[Terranihil]

Deputy Elder Councilor Albertina Stundezeit began to speak:

"Although Yurizlansia's declination of attending this conference, and its recent passing of socialist legislation is alarming, I do not think it is necessary to classify Yurizlansia as a threat. Polarizing the major powers of the world will only alienate strong nations like Yurizlansia and discourage them from joining us in the future.

Currently, our three nations, no matter how great, will not survive against a full-scale Soviet attack. Even if Yurizlansia decides to support us, it will still be a tough fight. This is why I would like to extend an invitation to arguably the most powerful nation in the world, Germany. Germany, with its dominant military, plentiful resources, and vital international influence, will be a significant and reliable ally. I hope that Germany will accept my proposal, and I hope that Quintipoli and Konratopia will also welcome Germany into our alliance. Thank you."

[The Swedish Coast]

The Swedish Deputy Prime, Bastian Holm, walked up to the front to address the delegates. As he walks across the front, the whole assembly cheer him, and they quite as he begins his speech. "It is a pleasure to be here, in the great city of Ashgabat, and doing so representing the Swedish population. I am sorry about the delay, I had to speak to the Prime Minister Vilhelm Foresberg on the telephone. Delegates, we all represent unique and different countries. Different by religion, race and creed, however, we are the same in at least one way: We are all rivals of Russia! Russia: A nation that has invaded us all, a nation too powerful for each of us to fight by ourselves, but in a union, the nations I see before me could set a good battle for that vast realm. And that is the problem with them, they're too big! We fought them 20 years ago, that was not enough to destroy them. It takes a gargantuan nation to survive that. Sweden will be pleasured to join a union against them, and although our military is weak, our spirit is strong!" He is applauded as he leaves the stage, and returns to his seat next to the Swedish ambassador in Konratopia and his secretary.

[Konratopia]

Vice President Kabilazk then stood up again, with the tension within his own delegation higher than ever.

"Thank you for those remarks about the strength of the Soviets, Deputy Prime Minister Bastian Holm. Now, I would like to-" The Vice President was suddenly cut off by the emergence of President Disain from the back of the room. He looked as though he had been on a long journey, and his eyes were hollow as if he had spent several days without sleep. He made his way to the front of the room slowly, then took his seat, preparing his papers while he got ready to speak.

"Ah, President Disain, you've arrived from Almaty at last!" said Vice President Kabilazk finally. Now, I would like to invite our new Secretary of State, Akmal Uzmerkili, to speak." An old, Turkmenian man then stood up and began to speak.

"I agree with Quintipoli in that of course we must not be too hasty to judge Yurizlansia, but a healthy suspicion about them can't be a bad thing until their true intentions are revealed. I cannot, however, endorse Terranihil's idea to invite the German Empire into the alliance. The alliance's purpose was never to fight a long-scale war against the Soviet Union alone, but merely to have a safeguard in case the Soviets tried to overwhelm one of us quickly before any reinforcements could arrive. It seems a given that in the case that the Soviet Union tries to ruin the balance of power in eastern Europe and Asia completely, the world powers will intervene just to protect their own interests. Adding the German Empire to the alliance as a member, however, might mean that we would be drawn into unnecessary colonial wars that should really only involve Germany, This is why I believe that the alliance's main purpose should be to keep the smaller states around the Soviet Union unified, so that we can rely just a little less on the Great Powers." The Konratopian delegation erupted into applause, glad that finally one of the speakers had said something slightly less controversial.

[Quintipoli]

President Sarnik eagerly lept to his feet before the applause subsided.

"I could not agree more with the Konratopians on the subject of Germany's potential membership in our alliance. During the Second World War, my nation bravely fought off the German invaders and successfully prevented them from reaching the Caspian Sea. We regard them with just as much suspicion as we regard the Russians, and much more than Yurizlansia. They are just another imperial power after our resources and land, and inviting them here is akin to inviting a wolf into our henhouse. The Quintipolese government would like to make it absolutely clear that the purpose of this alliance mutual defense, a community of nations of similar size and strength looking out for each other. Including such a large and powerful nation as Germany will only make us their pawns in their own foreign engagements."

The President took his seat, as the rest of the delegation looked relieved that the idea was being given such a good burial.

[Terranihil]

Deputy Elder Councilor Albertina Stundezeit stood back up to counter the two nation's arguments, but overwhelming applause made it clear that they would not endorse Stundeseit's proposal.:

"Although Terranihil still stands by its proposal, your nations have made valid arguments, and it is understandable why you have decided against the inclusion of Germany in our alliance. Terranihil still supports a military alliance and supports open trade between our three great nations. Our alliance will be historical, and it will be a formidable force to be reckoned with."

[The Swedish Coast]

Bastian Holm once again stands up to address the other delegates: "In response to this proposal, welcoming Germany into our alliance will help us defend our homelands from the tyrant that is the Soviet Union. The Soviets have, along with many world powers, nuclear bombs. Germany is one of these world powers, currently they are building an atomic fleet. To help defeat the Soviet Union, we will almost definitely need nuclear bombs. The alternative is constructing our own, which will take years, and by then the Soviets could have made bombs big enough to destroy cities. In the interests for the people in all our countries, the best cause of action will be to invite Germany to join us".

[Konratopia]

"No, no, no!" said President Disain, leaping to his feet just as the Swedish speaker had finished.

"Why should we invite Germany, a nation that is more powerful than all of us combined, into a defensive alliance, because they have nuclear bombs? One of the major points of this alliance is to avoid nuclear warfare in the event that one of us is invaded by the Soviet Union, and you want to invite a country whose first instinct would be to use nuclear weapons? This alliance is to protect our nations from a lightning raid, and Germany is absolutely never going to be in danger of this anytime soon. I will not sit and watch this alliance of smaller countries become another league dominated by Germany. Now, if we can finally put this issue to rest, I believe we are in agreement about the rest of the terms of the alliance, so I propose that we begin making our closing statements, so that we may go in peace and feel all the more safe.

[Quintipoli]

Foreign Minister Linius Kahaldrin calmly stood up as the applause slowly died down.

"I think our delegation has made it abundantly clear that we will not tolerate Germany joining our alliance, and given the similar response from Konratopia and the lukewarm approval from Terranihil, it is obvious that this is not happening. Now, with that said, let us move on to our closing statements. Cooperation between the nations that border the USSR is critical for defending ourselves from our powerful common enemy, and thus it is with great enthusiasm that that government of the Federal Republic of Quintipoli supports this mutual defense alliance. When an attack on one of us is an attack on all, no one can defeat us."

[Terranihil]

Deputy Elder Councilor Albertina Stundezeit applauded Foreign Minister Linius Kahaldrin's statement, then stood up to speak. "As minister Kahaldrin said, the Soviets are an immense threat to each one of our nations' security, prosperity, and happiness, but when united, we are a powerful force on a global scale. Terranihil agrees to honor this alliance and to abide by its laws. Terranihil promises to defend all nations in this alliance from any threat, as well as to open trade with them. In behalf of all of Terranihil, I thank Konratopia for hosting and establishing this meeting, and I thank all the nations who have taken part."

[The Swedish Coast]

As the Terranihil speaker finished eyes from across the room glared at Bastian Holm to give the final Swedish speech, but instead the man sitting next to him stands up. He is identified as Torre Ottoson, and is the Swedish Ambassador in Konratopia. He shortly begins his speech "Delegates of Konratopia, Quintipoli, Terranihil and Sweden: As the previous speaker said, the Soviets are a very large power, but together, we a very large power. The Union that has been created here in Ashgabat is a fine example of how countries come together in a time of need. I see Conservatives, Fascists and Liberals all gathered under one roof. May God and Allah bless this union, and may it inspire other nations in our two continents to join us, and fight on until the end.
On behalf of the Swedish Delegates, I would like to thank the Konratopians for hosting us, and Quintipoli and Terranihil for taking part. Once again, Thankyou very much."

"Then with that in mind, I believe it is time to go in peace. This document, once ratified, shall hereby form the Ashgabat League, a defensive alliance between the great nations of Konratopia, Quintipoli, Terranihil, and Sweden, from all superpower threats, especially the Soviet Union." said President Disain. "As you return to your home countries, make sure to remember what we have accomplished here, and remember that if you are ever attacked, by the Soviets or any other foreign power, the rest of our nations will be there to defend you, as we know you will do for us. Thank you."
