"THE FLEET put to sea today, in the largest naval deployment since the Slavery War with Doomingsland. Two new fleet groups, Force D and Force F, have been formed up and deployment has begun. While numbers are still classified, the Telegraph has learned that at least fifty Battle Carrier Squadrons are to be deployed. This will make it the largest naval deployment for thirty years and something is to be said about the force names given; both formations have Battle Stars from the Four Day War. Today is a day that all Questarians can be proud of as we see first hand that our country is not the relic that our denegrators accuse! This deployment comes at a time when Questaria itself is fighting a campaign overseas against the tyranny of slavery. Our fleet deployments to Denecaep had frightened off the hyenas in Brewdomia and Ralkovia who threatened an innocent country with war, and they shall do so again, with the Grace of God. It is the sincere belief of this publication that no other nation in history has the determination or the strength of arms to bring about an end to the slave trade. Despite the reticence of the government to commit to bold-faced aggression, a small expeditionary force had to be mobilized - if only to placate their fellow statesmen in Gholgoth.

Despite public assurances that the state would not launch itself headlong into conflict, activity around the nation's largest naval base betrayed the rhetorical calm of the Directorate or National Assembly. As home to three of five of the navy's grand Territorial Fleets, the military thought it best to hide the government's defense worries amidst the din of daily activity. Given the chance, however, astute observers would have noticed something radically amiss within the SKC (Schultarian Defense Forces).

While no stranger to traffic, the volume of vehicles into the dockyard was above even the level of activity during the war against Zarbian Tanzania. Thousands of rail cars and trucks, filled to the brim with munitions, food, fuel, and virtually everything else in a quartermaster's wet dream unloaded with blurring speed. Deep underground the labyrinthine complex of conveyors and inspectors cataloged every box and widget waiting for consignment to their respective squads and vessels. Aboveground, all manner and array of IFVs, Battle Tanks, AA Vehicles, Scout Cars, Field Artillery, and numerous other wheeled and tracked implements scurried about towards loading docks along the navy yard's forty kilometers of piers, along with their owners and maintenance crews. To house the influx of soldiers and equipment, temporary shelters, washrooms, commissaries, command posts, and medical facilities were erected next to the primary barracks campus.

The base's temporary guests would have piqued the interests of even the most passive citizens. The very mention of the service is enough to even give the hardest careerists pause. To describe their selection process as tough would be an insult to their recruitment and training. To even be considered a recruit for weeding and selection requires a level of proficiency that would instantly qualify for the highest honors from any other SKC special forces unit. Less than half a million strong, the Otkron's combat prowess has been rumored to be on par with Grovon and its reserves, despite a 40:1 manpower and 65:1 armor advantage in the Army's favor.

Naturally most of the military leadership has bought the idea that such fantastic claims are merely needless (possibly dangerous) boasting, but rumor or not, the Otkron's potential for damage on the battlefield is very real. Despite their lack of direct combat under the state's Defense Forces, there have been plenty of rumors which have made the rounds from base to base. The most popular suggest the Otkron have allowed their units to serve as mercenaries with foreign contractors. Others have suggested the unit serves as a clearing house – recruiting elite forces of other nations into its ranks when their states are on the brink of inexplicable collapse. While the government vehemently denies such practices even exist, let alone condoned, it does explain why the unit seems so uncannily fluent and competent in just about every language and weapon system under the sun.

In pensive, yet casually silent, discipline the troops jogged in lockstep to their temporary quarters - their marching orders clear, but their destination still unknown. Waiting for a signal to apply their surreptitiously earned skills to the test...

Following the recent announcement of Gholgothic intent to become more active in international affairs, the Afrikaner Defence Forces have been ordered to increase readiness levels. Leave passes for weekends have been suspended indefinitely in favour of immediate deployment capability, and contact with military personnel has been limited.

The recent emergence of conflict along the borders with the socialist regimes of Corbourne-isiZululand and Nguni Xhosa have already seen a significant increase in military preparedness for potential conflict. However with the real threat to both the Free State and her allies around the globe poised by possible Gholgothic aggression, an absolute stand-to has been requested by the Volksraad, and approved by State President Michael Blair.

"I see now, more than ever," said Mr. Blair during a media conference at Grantham House earlier today, "a need for great diligence and diplomacy in the future. We must seek whatever outlets we can to avoid what could become a catastrophic global conflagration. However, it has been my experience to note that when diplomacy fails, a nation must have it's stoic young men ready to defend her. I have ordered a further increase in military preparedness to show the strength of our resolve. Angsiyan Konrad William Althalon IV was in the habit of holding his daily situation meetings in his own office. A conference room existed in the eastern wing of the Serechav, but it didn't have the imposing view Konrad's office had; plus it reminded his occasionally impetuous Privy Council of the proper scope and grandeur of Imperial power. Large windows towered behind his desk: immediately outside, snow swirled in the foreground of a massive mountain range.

Konrad was a monarch, but had the habit of conducting his business with somewhat of a Republican tone. He rarely wore the regalia one might expect of his office, and despite the grandeur of his station he held his cabinet meetings sitting on two long couches on either side of a rectangular table of the same length. Instead of sitting or standing at the table's head, he was also in the custom of occupying a random spot on either couch with each passing day; a habit he liked to think was a tool for weeding out the worst of the ass-kissers.

"On to new business," the Angsiyan declares flatly, tossing a leaflet aside.

The council murmurs amongst themselves for a moment before Oldrich Cenkova, Konrad's Chamberlain, gestures to one of the men. "Minister Kit, I believe you had an issue to discuss," he announces.

Kit nods and stands. "Thank you, Lord Chamberlain." Turning to the Emperor, he continues. "Gholgoth is throwing rocks at the hornet's nest again, Angsiyan." He leans forward and drops a page on the table. "This is the note he sent out last week. In it, Vladius Dreadfire asserts that the world was built by 'Gholgoth and Haven alike' and pledges to 'stand on the sidelines no more.'"

Konrad puts on his reading glasses and scans the document. Those closest to him knew he didn't really need the glasses (owing to biomedical implants), but the Angsiyan was careful to maintain certain habits around certain people. Arda's provinces had been unified after the war with Morgoth, after all, but tensions still ran high from time to time and ruling a continent often required deception in various capacities.

After a few moments, he drops the paper back on the table and takes a moment to collect his thoughts. First, he looks to his Minister of the Interior, Stefan Rohr. "Has the story broken yet?"

"No, Angsiyan. State media outlets are awaiting your decision and Kit and I both agreed that this news wouldn't leave the Serechav until you had a chance to weigh in." Rohr stops for a moment, but leans forward as his tongue darts out to wet his lips before continuing. "I think it might not be prudent to--"

"I know, Minister Rohr," Konrad cuts in. I don't imagine the hoi polloi would react well to that data in raw form; whether citizen or soldier." He glances briefly at Warmarshal Ezr Serogyan, but doesn't address him directly. "This missive is unacceptable for public dissemination. Our truce with Gholgoth is tenuous enough, considering their prior and outrageous disrespect for my administration. Eru knows I myself am uneasy with the idea of a pact with them, but they are strategic allies for us. If nothing else they hate Morgoth well enough, and will likely be valuable allies should he return soon.

"I know this council has heard me say this often, but it is my firm conviction that Morgoth will do all but break himself to return to Arda before I expire, and I imagine estimating my own longevity is a top priority of his. Since I have no intention of losing such a confrontation, we must gather to us all the allies we can, and this would seem to include Gholgoth, at least for now. What's been the reaction?"

"Hard to say, we're only getting bits and pieces," replies Kit frankly. "All we can really tell from this vantage is that some people hate them and some people love them, as might be expected in any situation. Some countries and alliances have simply offered condemnations, but there appears to be some military movement attached with this. I would be surprised if a confrontation wasn't too far off."

Konrad draws a hand across his brow and rubs it vigorously. "Is the Fourth still in drydock?" he asks Sergoyan curtly.

"Yes, Angsiyan. They're slated to move out on patrol in three weeks. Repairs were completed last Tuesday, and the crews are being recalled."

"Alright, fine. Keep this one off the airwaves for now, I'll give the Sky Marshal new orders for the Third, Fourth and Seventh fleets later this afternoon."

"Yes, Angsiyan," answer the Warmarshal and Rohr simultaneously.

Konrad nods matter-of-factly and turns back to Kit. "How do you think we ought to respond to this?"

Gholgoth would do well to remember its place. While we recognize her influence, it is probably a touch pompous to assume that Gholgoth and Haven alone are responsible for the shape of world affairs. We above all stand as the greatest bulwark against Morgoth's hordes, and it appears some in Gholgoth may need to be reminded of this fact. Daily we fight back the throng of our common enemy, yet our sacrifice merits no mention in your grandiose missive.

I say this not to glorify Arda, but to put our achievements into perspective. Gholgoth has fought (and sometimes won) wars against her transient enemies, but we have had no choice but to stand eternally against the very same specter against which both Arda and Gholgoth have fought so tenaciously. As a result, we have not had the luxury of aggrandizing ourselves on the international stage but rather have been forced to face more perpetual and material threats.

Arda would like to remind all involved that the world faces greater threats than fleeting conflict with some or other world power. While we certainly do not approve of the Freeks' policies wholesale, saber-rattling is likely to accomplish little and we feel compelled to conserve our strength.

I submit that discussing the situation in a diplomatic forum is the obvious and prudent move for all involved, and offer Arda as a possible location for such an event. If this is a redundant request I apologize, but I feel compelled to make it nonetheless. Arda does not want a war, but is not afraid of defending her strategic interests.

OOC: I should probably come right out and say now that my tech level is PMT/FT so anyone not prepared to acknowledge the existence of giant floating airships should probably ignore me. The Fleets Konrad speaks of above are not maritime navies, but "Gravships," which function in all atmospheres ranging from deep sea to deep space. None of them are moving very far off the Ardan continent. Konrad doesn't endeavor to hide or mask these movements so they can be seen easily enough by satellite, but as of now the movements are slow and discreet enough that they could still just be out on exercise. The 3rd, 4th and 7th Fleets are currently the only mobilized fleet assets on earth, the rest are either patrolling various sections of Sol or are moored at Io.

We, the nations of Greater Dienstad speaking in unison, condemn these actions of Automagfreek and her Gholgothic allies. The invasion of the nation of Sharfghotten shows an unwillingness on the part of Gholgoth to solve their problems through the medium of diplomacy before engaging in what could potentially erupt in a global conflagration of epic proportions. We deem this wholly unacceptable.

Should nations of Gholgoth involved in this pursuit not resort to diplomatic measures it would mean the unilateral condemnation of them by the united nations of Greater Dienstad. The deployment of military force without care or regard for a diplomatic proceeding is of great consequence to the international community. With Gholgothic refusal to begin dialogue with all parties concerned, the Greater Dienstadi nations shall be forced to carefully examine all options at their disposal, including the selective use of military force if deemed necessary.
