Des-Bal has rigid tenets regarding slavery and ensuring the safety of those slaves. Slave exporters don't wish to damage their reputations by selling mentally ill or injured slaves and slave owners have no use for injured or mentally ill slaves.

We don't need your god here in New Amerik; they all fled here a long time ago. Progress and Science will light our path to glory. And the Gorad was in the right place: we have identified problems with conflicting orders in the TM prototype pattern and are beginning to correct it.

Regardless, the WASO, OMSA, and IASEN groups have managed to come through peacefully. Only those outside the alliances and not part of other, older groups need to worry.......

No, she just wasn't a slave. She was never used for forced labor while she was living in Ra'tka and after she was captured she was used as a research subject. The Shadow Gorad if you recall were hunting down the other slaves all of which were succesfully apprehended. What the slaves want really isn't our concern, and the spider was never a slave. It was bought illegally and apparently harvested in a fashion that is illegal in Des-Bal.
