A lot of the larger slaver nations have extensive civil rights legislation in place to make sure slaves are healthy and taken care of. The Chair of The Rich Port, however, is their treatment of slaves; disturbingly, they are regarded as "sub-human".

They are slaves because they are Sub-Humans not the other way around. They were Sub-Human before they were slaves and they will be Sub-Humans long after.

In what way are they inferior to regular humans?

They are not regular humans they are of the Genus Homo but not of the species sapien

OOC: Myself, Rich Port, New Amerika, and essentially anyone whose been involved in a firefight during a diplomatic mission have non human creatures in our nations

Are they sentient?

... This calculator gave me a happy.

Hey, look, Des-Bal, your folks can't read!

No endorse wrote:Now, do you see anything measuring GDP? No, you see 3 descriptive categories (themselves simplifications, but easily manipulated) and a series of percents. Now, what does "Frightening" mean?

Does it mean my people automatically all get 40,000$ a year? And how does that work with a 44% income tax? Or a 0% income tax? Or a 100% income tax, which is a very real possibility if you're clever enough I believe.

In fact, what part of the NS calculators is /remotely/ empirical? I understand there's a vague connection to the HDI in the original estimates, but that's vague enough and a /very/ imprecise tool.

Long story short, the calculators are great for giving n00bs an idea of what they can't do (launch 10,000 Apollo missions with 5 million people) They're frankly rubbish for freeform RP.

... Yeah, I kinda figured the whole "calculators aren't the end-all, say-all" stuff myself, sensei. I find it ironic that neither yourself or Doomingsland seem to take this to heart or to mind. After all, the SunsetRPG DOES grant you greater GDP, and you seem to respect it more than most. I had actually mistaken Doomingsland for a n00b after he had responded to my last post (both for the way he responded and to the his post numbers... so, whatever, anyways...). For being veterans to NS, the two of you behave like you just got off of 4chan. You'll be glad to know you're both laughable and not deserving of my respect. So... congrats, I guess? I don't even know what your points were...

They can be tought to speak like a parrot and be taught simple tasks like a gorilla. Rich Port has conducted studies that have indicated very little distinction between their brains and ours however New Amerika has conducted studies which provided a pile of bodies. I believe the pile of bodies is a testament to how poorly these creatures reason, they are not worthy of sentiency.

Yes, in all cases so far, they are. There are differences between them(New Amerik's are indistinguishable from humans unless you have the power to see the Otherside, for example), but they are sentient.

Ahem....Des-Bal, our studies also showed very little difference between humans and non-humans, and we believe those bodies are due to some kind of April Fool's Day prank by a Mr. J. Also, those bodies will be very useful for SCIENCE!

ACTUALLY... my team of scientists found that they are quite capable of more complex tasks... such as reading, writing, mathematics, you know, the works. And Ms. Darla Black, a member of Homo Arachnida, is a college graduate currently running decryption in my classified sections. So... they're more than capable of our own capabilities, DESPITE their physiological and anatomical differences.

That sounds like a crack about Rich Port colleges more than a testament to the spiders abillities. Your spider assaulted uniformed security officers and New Amerikas studies were interupted by a killing spree caused by a Sub-Human.

Sentiency does not mean non-violence.

And it's AMERIK. Former America had the a at the end.

Sentience is meaningless if they are driven by an overwhelming lust for murder.

To murder their masters. None of the post-humans under our study ever committed murder, nor did they express the desire to kill. Apparently, they direct most of their anger towards Des-Balian slave owners.

Yes, there are very few incidents of violence among them so long as they are restrained as slaves. Des-Bal has seen unknown peace since the institution of slavery.

Actually the Sub-Human Neko made several attempts to kill indiscriminatley, including the death of the Floor Kippers Delegate for trying to reason with the creature. It also seems your logic is that they should be kept under strict control by their owners.

Varies by species. The Neko are quite adept at housework and find an excellent market as servants or concubines whereas the Naga often find use in industrial labor there are many varieties and all have their specialties.

To give three examples:

Steeltrap Clanka(goblin) works as a mechanic

Tal'nagga'heid(octupus-thingy) serves as a fisherman and fish-merchant

Tabitha de Sadev(felinoid) serves as the Empress of New Amerik

Most non-humans are adept in particular fields depending on skills and interest. A few species seem inclined to certain areas, like goblins to mechanics and car 'modification', but they are remarkably similar to humans.

Are they paid for their work? This is important in the definition of 'slave'.
